Meatball sub
Cassandra G.

5 stars Can't believe it's been a whole year since I last came--and wow, I forgot just how amazing this place is! I need to come more often. The meatball sub is absolutely heavenly, especially with the house-made mozzarella...melty, flavorful, and totally next-level. I devoured it so fast I didn't even snap a pic--but trust me, it's as good as it sounds. Don't skip dessert either! They've got a lovely selection of Italian cookies to-go and their world-famous cheesecake and cannoli are to die for. It's that perfect blend of comfort food and Italian soul. Already planning my next visit!

We stopped in to Hoboken Café today for lunch. I've been here several times before and have never been disappointed. Today was an especially good visit. The food was on point. The meatballs are so good I never order anything else! My son noticed all the photos on the wall and was asking the owner some questions about his experiences. The friendly conversation really made our day. Clean tables, efficient service, friendly staff. Reminds me of home - and that's about the best compliment you can give!

Food: Fantastic! Everything was fresh and sandwiches are quite big, we should have shared. The bread is firmer so it didn't get all soggy, a real plus. Service: Friendly and patient, so many great options, it took us a minute to decide. Atmosphere: Busy, lots of hustle and bustle, but had a true cafe feel. Loved the picture menu.

Amazingly good sandwiches, authentic Italian. And make sure you get a cannoli. They're the best I've ever had (and I'm Italian!)

Bread comes out when everyone is there, not sure if they give your more bread upon request or they charge you for more bread since that seems to be a theme there. I had called and asked since they do not serve wine if we could bring a bottle of wine was told yes. since I never have carried wine in before once there they said as $5.00 charge for bringing your own wine and I got a glass for that. I understand from friends that is normal. Once my spaghetti came, I wanted more sauce she said it is $1.50 more, I said okay. She brought a small condiment size container out of sauce maybe a tablespoon of sauce, if that. When I saw this, I said thank you however if that is all there is you can take that back. Then she said you want a cup, I did not dare ask how much that was instead just said no thank you. Then my friends appetize was on my check doubling my total and I went ahead and paid and tipped on that extra amount. My friend did reimburse me for the appetizer. I felt nickeled and dimed.

Hero flavors in every dish on my visit on a cold, but sunny, Tuesday in mid-March just after 5PM…read more The covered patio area was empty but staged for the impending nice weather while inside there were about 20 two-seater tables (some pushed together and in use by larger parties) as well as a bar. Over the bar was a large screen TV showing beautiful scenes of Italy, with contemporary Italian pop playing in the background. I started with the soup of the day, which was lobster bisque that was so full of lobster that I would call it a stew versus a soup. The complimentary bread was slightly toasted and topped with aromatic herbs that paired perfectly with the olive oil with which it was served. My entree was a special, and was the short rib. There was nothing "short" about it as the huge beef rib had a bone that overhung the plate that a caveman would be proud to own. The beef was fork tender and the steak knife provided with it wasn't necessary. It was paired with a delicious and sweet wine sauce. And the side was tender gnocchi (al tartufo) in a rich and creamy sauce flavored with truffle. Since they also have Risotto al Tartufo on the menu, that will definitely be on my list for my next visit. And I definitely want to bring my wife to that next visit because the flavor and food were so wonderful, it's a great place for a date night.

It was chilly went we visited, but on a nice day, the patio would be nice too. We ordered and were not in any kind of hurry. Probably a good thing, since the kitchen seemed to be very backed up and the food came out very slowly. The servers also seemed to be a little overwhelmed, so I'm wondering if the crowd was heavier than expected. Please don't take this as complaint - the service staff were very friendly and did their best to keep diners smiling. Unfortunately - the food was a little underwhelming. We ordered calamari - it was slightly over cooked and chewy. For dinner, we had the gnocchi and chicken saltimbocca. The safe in the chicken dish was overpowering (I ended up having to scrape it off) and the chicken was overcooked. It says a lot that my favorite thing on the plate was the sautéed spinach (which was delicious!). I really, really wanted to love this place, but I'm not sure I would visit again. There are too many places in this area that have much better food for the same price point.

The overwhelming flavor came from the dried Calabrian chiles, which had not been reconstituted properly into the sauce, so it also left me wondering whether the gritty bites came from that or if the clams & mussels had been cleaned properly. Regardless, the sauce lacked depth. The fresh pasta clung together in clumps, an indication that the chef had not mixed it diligently during the cooking process, but from a visual perspective, it looked to be on point. I must confess, the lamb carpaccio is one of the most distinct, unique dishes that I have tasted in quite a while; as a caveat to that, it is a bold flavor profile, so if you prefer a neutral, familiar red meat such as beef, proceed with caution and an open mind. My wife had the lobster and cavatelli, which was by far the most fully developed dish of all, creamy savory richness coating slightly dense bites of pasta, reminiscent of gnocchi, and the lobster was definitely present, which is the exception rather than the rule with most creamy dishes advertised to contain lobster. Our server was attentive, professional, polite, personable & well spoken. I can't say that I have any critiques in that area. Though she did not introduce herself, I presume she was the owner, came by to ensure that our meal was more than satisfactory. Even the lady tending to our drinks revisited the table with diligence. The inside has a very open floor plan, although it could probably have a layout redesign so that some tables don't make some patrons feel as though they are in the way. The decor is a blend of industrial chic with modern, local art lining the walls, most pieces being slightly above average amateur status. They have a private dining area dedicated to larger parties if you plan ahead and give them notice. There seemed to only be one lavatory for the whole restaurant, but it's possible that I didn't look long enough. All in all, a nice place for Italian food if you want to break free from the typical American-Italian offerings. Our meal was $130 for two entrees, two glasses of wine, an appetizer and a desert, with tip included. I'd say that's about on par with just about every other restaurant that doesn't have a drive thru. Buon appetito & mangia!

Lively but not loud, it's the kind of atmosphere that feels elegant without trying too hard. And the food was absolutely exceptional. Fresh pasta, rich sauces, perfectly balanced flavors, and thoughtful attention to detail.  Our sever, Sean, was friendly and attentive without hovering. His timing was flawless and the entire evening felt effortless from start to finish. Marietta has some solid dining spots, but this one stands out. We'll absolutely be back.

They bill themselves as authentic Italian dining. The first clue that this was just Olive Garden…read morewith lipstick, is the bread and olive oil. (And Balsamic vinegar, and spices.) That is a uniquely American invention unheard of in Italy. Bread goes with the meal and if the olive oil is good, you just drizzle a little on the bread. You certainly don't mix it with Balsamic vinegar. The pasta dishes are large enough to feed an entire table as a first course, which is Italian, not as an entire meal. (American tradition) When you offer Sausage, chicken, shrimp etc. on your on your caccio e Peppe that's American not Italian. For heaven's sake, it's called Cacio e Peppe for a reason. Also, they proudly use Gran Padano, from Northern Italy, instead of the correct Pecorino Romano from Southern Italy. It's supposed to be a simple Roman Dish! They make it a cheese wheel, so if you are looking for an American/Italian/Benihana experience, this is for you. There was waaaaaay too much raw garlic in the Penne alla Vodka (American, NOT Italian). I don't mean minced or finely chopped. There were chunks of it. And if they used heavy cream in the sauce we couldn't find it. The affogato was ok, but it's supposed to be made with a shot of espresso, not regular American Coffee. It just melts the ice cream making a dessert soup. The food is no better than what you would expect at one of the "Italian Restaurant" Chains and if that's what you expect in a nicer atmosphere you're sure to be pleased. The Service was pretty good. The ambiance is nice. But please, don't bill yourself as Authentic Italian when you are most certainly not.

Free small parking lot in front. Free extra parking across the street. The total was about $150 for 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, 2 drinks, and a dessert. Pros The quiet, intimate, and classy atmosphere was exactly what I needed for my family. When we first arrived, our table was not ready and we had to wait outside. However we were given continuous updates on when the table would be ready, they apologized, and they were very understanding. Considering we were a large party in an intimate space, we understood and only waited about 20 minutes before the table was ready. You could tell the food was fresh, the orders came fast, and the service was amazing. The fresh in house pasta took everything to the next level. It was the perfect night out. Cons The establishment is intimate so I do not think it would ideal for extra large parties. I had a party of 8 at 8PM but I dont know if they could have accomodated us if it was any earlier during prime dinner time. I wish they had a better parking situation but its not bad and its free. I randomly decided that I wanted Italian so we decided to check them out for the first time. Mezza Luna is located in a very small plaza with a tight parking lot. I'm so glad that I read the reviews in advance about parking, but I still wasn't prepared for what we saw. Surprisingly, there were 2 or 3 open spots when we visited around 7pm. We had reservations and were quickly seated after being greeted. The restaurant itself was quite intimate, offering only a few tables that were laid out in a manner that had us all quite close. But it worked! Since we had our son with us, they already had a high chair ready for us but he slept through the entire dinner, which also shows how peaceful it actually was in there. I started with a glass of chianti and it paired perfectly with the complimentary starter bread. That focaccia was so fresh! The crust had a great crunch but it was still soft and fluffy inside. We went with the meatball appetizer special which included 4-5 meatballs covered in marinara, fresh tomatoes and burrata. They were delicious, although the tomatoes being cold was a bit of a surprise. For dinner, I went for the chicken piccata and my partner opted for the chicken marsala. Both were great and packed with flavor. Such an unassuming place with tons of flavor waiting inside - perfect for date night or just a nice Italian dinner!
