As far as RC cars, if they don't have it, they should be able to get it. Good service, and Collin, is an absolute wealth of knowledge. He splits his time between this store and the one in Batavia. He has helped me countless times in building, fixing or upgrading rigs. Good crawler course there too. Bad customer service. When I was there the kid in charge seemed bothered by me asking questions about merchandise and the quick short responses seemed dismissive. Imagine this, It's a regular day coming to hobby town to pick up parts for your rc car. Standing there for a while, waiting for someone to help me. But, all i can hear is someone yelling, full volume, at a customer on the phone. Swearing, Screaming, Insulting. At the time i thought it was a little funny, but this is completely unacceptable. Then, get this, I was returning an item i didn't need, but since THEY gave ME an incorrect receipt, I couldn't return it. This has happened so many times it isn't even funny. Had a terrible experience here over the weekend and will never go back. I would suggest that you do the same. Summary: bad return policy, worse customer service (from the owner, no less!). My boyfriend and I bought kites Monday afternoon. We immediately drove down the road to Busse Park and assembled them. My kite went right up in the strong breeze and didn't come down once. My boyfriend's would only spin out of control counterclockwise and immediately hit the ground. After maybe an hour of trying to get the kite into the air, adjusting the string, rechecking the directions, etc., it became clear that one wing wasn't performing the same way as the other wing. We packed it up as close to as-new as we could and brought it back to exchange it for a different (ps: more expensive) kite. Total elapsed time from purchase to attempted return: maybe two hours. The return policy is that they will only take back unopened items. The only exception is if there is a visible defect. The kite's performance clearly demonstrated that it was defective, but since there weren't any holes or missing pieces or anything, they wouldn't take it back. We suggested it could be defective sewing or weight or design, but our suggestions were refused. We asked the owner to take the kite into the parking lot and try it himself so he could see the defect, but he refused. Worse than that, the owner seemed very disinterested in our business. When the clerk said she needed to get her manager, he didn't even come out -- he just sent the clerk back to tell us "no." When we asked to talk to the manager (who later said he was the owner), he just didn't seem to care. He didn't offer us anything for our trouble. Offering us a coupon or a discount on a replacement or something would have at least demonstrated that he cared about our business. Worst of all, as my boyfriend got angry at the situation, the owner just got angry back, escalating an already frustrating situation. A policy that doesn't allow customers to return defective merchandise seems like poor business. An owner who doesn't care and actually escalates bad situations is just unacceptable. read more

I ran across these whiny reviews written on a place I didn't think needed ANY review. So, I'm throwing out my 2 cents also. The things I've purchased here have been exactly as advertised and represented faithfully. I've also worked in retail and wholesale. When a package is opened it is either YOURS or occasionally taken back with a (about 25% or higher) restocking fee --because somebody either has to make it look new again (re-shrink wrap it) or return it (if the manufacturer has a stellar return policy, and even then the store might have to pay shipment). If it FAILs out of box...and you can prove it...it's probably good for a replacement or store refund in most retail atmospheres. If you want a no-questions return policy, go to WalMart which is big enough to accept hundreds of dollars-per-store of returned items per day and take the monetary loss on the figurative 'chin'. Good luck finding any quality hobby kits in there, though. Sorry for the 'tone' but I'm sick of cry-baby, self-absorbed, assumedly-entitled customers who think the customer is always right. I've sold for international companies, and let me assure you when you call ANY customer service line: they do not automatically assume you are right. In fact, the nicer you are to customer service people; the more leniency they tend to feel toward your situation. Maybe you should try that next time you walk into a small retailer rather than having a chip on your shoulder when you shove the door open. read more

I saw a couple 1 star reviews based on returns. RC vehicles that work when sold cannot be returned once used! Too many people damage their RC due to lack of skill then expect a refund for some reason. This is not right! If you do encounter a problem days, weeks, or months after a purchase, contact the manufacturer and see if they can help! This is a hobby to learn and yes, damage and other problems happen sometimes, that is part of the hobby! ***BUYER BEWARE**** Purchased a brand new Traxxas Slash 4x4 and starter pack for $527.89 on 9/13/19 at the Schaumburg location. On the 3rd use of the car in my driveway on 9/25/19, the right rear half drive shaft snapped off the car - I called the issue into the store and was told by one of the store associates that this should not have happened, and to bring the car and defective part in on Tuesday when the owner Jeremy is there. Brought the car in along with the clearly defective part today (Tuesday 10/1/19) and was told that this was not covered under warranty because it is PLASTIC (the whole car is pretty much plastic!) and that I had to purchase the part and install myself. I questioned why this would NOT be considered a warranty issue (politely) and was then told by JEREMY, the owner of this store, that if I didn't want to purchase the part, that I should get out of his F***ING face as he raised his voice and walked towards me!! - unbelievable. He then went to the front of the store to stand with one of his buddies behind the counter and dared me to same something (which I did not). This guy is a crook and definitely not someone you want to do business with - totally unprofessional to say the least. All this over a $10.00 part - what a jerk! read more

Good enough Hobby store. What it lacks in any sort of depth , it makes up for in variety of stuff. In other words , it doesn't have alot of variety of ship models , or car models , but it does have model soldiers , role playing books , rc cars , boats , planes and helis , game miniatures and board games. I know of several stores that specialize in any one of those categories , but don't carry all of them. The prices are fine , a little high for some stuff , not too bad for other stuff. You can do worse than this place , but I know of better stores that specialize more in my likes . read more

I have been here a few times and the store is pretty good. As a previous reviewer stated, the store has a little bit of everything. I only go for plastic model car kits, but the selection is pretty good. What they don't have can be special ordered, which I have done before. The prices are comparable to everywhere else, but some of the models have discount stickers. I have always gotten along with the owner...in fact he's always been the one who rang me up at the register. He was a really friendly guy every time. I even sat and talked about cars once with him for a few minutes. I am not sure about the person who had the bad experience with the kite because the only real reason I even keep going back to the store is the kindness of the owner. Return policy hasn't changed a bit I read a review that's about 3 years old, that the owner is constantly looking to improve their return policy, but no change. I went to the store to find a Rc car. i made sure to get the staffs opinion on what i should buy. I advised the associate that I wanted a car that Ii can use in my home during the winter, play with my babies (2 1/2, and 1 yr old), and use outside during warm seasons. Well the recommended rc was a mini 8ight. When I got home I immediately took the rc out of the box, charged it and took it for a spin. To my surprise this "toy" goes about 35 mph! I wasn't able to use this thing around my kids, or even use it in my home. The rc is made for competitive racing. So obviously I tried to return it for something more suitable that wont jeopardize my kids health, but the "I'm sorry we don't accept returns on used merchandise, out manufacturer won't allow it." Here's an idea, keep the product and resale it as refurbished or something, don't give a full refund or give store credit. Better yet, make sure a customer gets what they are looking for. I'm not upset of spending the money, just upset of getting stuck with something I never wanted. Now I still have to go to toys r us to get one I can use with my kids. Worst return policy ever. At least have your policy visible around the store and highlight NO REFUNDS IF PRODUCT IS USED. read more

So Glenn responds that that they ran it for me, that is not true, although it was my fault for not having them run my nitro truck before I left. He says they offered to retune it for me? That makes no sense because the shaft went threw the piston because the engine was set to rich, and the set screw for 2d gear was not set correctly. Therefore you cannot retune a bad engine! I have been a costumer at this store for about a year now and found that they have the biggest selection of hobby paints around at a very good prices. They are also the only store around that i know of that has Gundam Kits in stock at all. The selection on the kits changes often so their is always some thing new to find. read more

SAVE YOUR GAS. I went in with my wife and son for the first time the other day and I was very disappointed. I am into the RC hobby. The staff was very rude, and it seemed like I was bothering them to ask for help. My wife and son looked at toys and board games and things of that nature. While they found what they were looking for, we did not purchase anything because everything is way over priced. You could buy the same toys at Target or Walmart for half the price (and have a much bigger selection-very small store). Also the owner talks about people after he gets off the phone, complaining about what they needed. In short, either go to Al's or their other store in Lake in the Hills. I would have rated 0 stars but 1 was the minimum, they never have anything Im looking for. I've been in the store while the owner cuts jokes about customers on the phone after he hangs up. Glen says "yeah we will carry parts just for you" -after the customer hangs up. My reason for this review. I gave them my Revo 3.3 for repair! A simple tuning adjustment. I paid $30. I highly recommend testing your car before you leave. I assumed they are professionals and did a good job! NOOOOO.....I get home and run my nitro truck, its louder than normal (like a harley davidson motorcycle - loud popping) and never goes past 1st gear...but it worked before I gave it to them. So it was not tuned...RIGHT I called talked to the tech, she ensured me it was working fine. But not only was she looking at it, another staff member mentioned it ran meaning they both drove my truck? She gave me the run around, so I asked to speak to the Manager, Glen answers..I explain my situation, he says "well you broke it". I about went ape shit, thank god I was not in the store at that time. So I go to St Charles Hobbytown USA and explain the situation since I believe the techs are better. They wished I had brought it to them in St Charles in the beginning. -I have been going there ever since.... I dont care about the money to get another engine thats fucking peanuts. DONT ACCUSE YOUR CUSTOMERS OF BREAKING SHIT WHEN THEY DIDNT! ITS PRINCIPLE and this is the only way I can get JUSTICE because its a he said she said. Staff is also knowledgeable about the stuff they sell. Gundam models are about $10-$20 higher than if you buy them online from another retailer plus tax...although you get to see it face to face in this store so I don't mind paying extra. Wide selection of model paints and tools. If there's one gripe I have about this store, that will be that it is rather small. Anything else is pretty much awesome! read more
