I've made multiple high-value purchases at Hobby Town, Bear, Delaware and unfortunately, my experience with their customer service has consistently been disappointing. If you're just looking to walk in, make a purchase, and leave without any interaction, this store might meet your expectations. However, if you're new to a hobby, have questions, or are hoping for a knowledgeable and engaging conversation, this is not the place to go. The staff come across as disengaged and uninterested in helping customers. Interactions feel transactional at best--once the purchase is complete, they quickly disappear into the back room. There's little to no effort to build rapport, offer guidance, or provide a welcoming environment. What's even more frustrating is that even basic questions over the phone are often met with vague or unclear responses. For a specialty hobby store, you would expect a higher level of product knowledge and customer support. It's extremely frustrating to spend any amount of money--especially significant amounts--with a business and not receive a basic level of customer service. The owner of this location should seriously evaluate both their hiring practices and overall customer service approach. While this may be a smaller operation, that's even more reason to focus on creating a strong, customer-friendly experience. At a minimum, the staff would benefit from retraining in the fundamentals of customer service and customer engagement. They have a great selection of hobby items, which is the only reason I give 2 stars. I will probably make the rest of my purchases online and with another hobby shop. If you like being ripped off and over charged this is the place for you and then when you complain you get blocked on facebook or hung up on. Just buy online and save money, they are only convenient if you need something NOW, otherwise they charge full retail on everything. I like supporting locally owned franchises but not this place, not now. Since I cant RESPOND to you i'll edit my review. Why do i THINK i was over charged? cause the receipt SHOWED I WAS, you sold me a mean machine rocket which was and is marked $34.99 (I still havent opened it) and on the receipt i have taped to it you charged me $35.99 and while it's a dollar when i called later that day i was told "i'll fix it in the computer" then hung up on, not told come back in for the refund. It's a dollar and your staff doing that over a dollar, then banning me from viewing or contacting hobby town bear on facebook shows how petty you franchise is. Again, I'll buy what i need direct from estes as they always offer free shipping and usually a 15-25% off coupon over the exact same prices you charge. I'm just STUNNED that you said "why do i think i was over charged" when i have the unopened box and the receipt showing. People, if you shop here check your receipts and compare them to the prices on the box, they are sneaky and when you confront them or call them out they try and block you. and no, I have no want or intention of calling you or coming into your store, I'll see if corporate will do anything since I contacted them. Also, I'm now being told your staff is marking the diecast with incorrect tag prices and not fixing them and using the excuse "we dont want to damage the packaging to lower it's collectable value" So basically ANYTHING ANYONE buys at your shop they need to have physically rung up to find out what the real price is since it's pretty obvious your staff is mismarking things and you're blaming the customers now for the inapt abilities of your staff. I supplied you with the two pictures (one of the price marked on the rocket you sold me, and one of you blocking my facebook account) yet you still lie, say i was charged right and I'm not blocked. If this isn't the sign of a store that wont last 2 years I don't know what is. Customer service like you provide is the reason local B&M shops go under unless the people in there talking to your staff all day keep you in business. My brother is irritated that he has to ask what the actual price is on every johnny lightning now and said he'll just order from amazon or another store.
