Seeing as this is the only large craft store in the mechanicsville area, they have a pretty good selection of basic crafting needs as well as seasonal and home decor. They have recently rearranged the layout of the store, so if you haven't shopped there in a little bit, you might be a little unfamiliar with the new location of some stuff. This location does their best to try to keeps things as neat as they can, but it can get a little crazy on Fridays and Saturdays, as that seems to be their busiest days, especially around peak holiday season. I do feel like this store could be better at managing the checkout area and opening up more registers when the lines get long, because there have been several times that I have been in where I've waited a decently long time in line before they call for back up cashiers. read more

I came to this store August 14, 2026 shopping for oil paint. Hobby Lobby's selection for the artist would only be worse if both oil paint racks were empty instead of one. All they offered were multi-packs of paint from some knockoff discount brand that is entirely unsuitable for the artist who cares about their work. Most of us do. The empty rack that held individual tubes of paint sells the crapola they are trying to foist on us in the multi-packs. Hobby Lobby could easily do better. Don't tell me you're sorry. Put racks of Grumbacher and/or Windsor & Newton oil paint out there for me to choose from. THEN apologize after you make it right. read more

This location is a bit hit or miss. Sometimes I come in and find more than I was looking for, other times I don't find anything. When I went the other day, I was specifically looking for things and couldn't find something. We walked up and down the aisles for about 30 minutes. Multiple associates just ignored us and when I tried to get help from one, she walked away as I approached. We ended up leaving without the item. As far as value goes, that's also hit or miss. They have good sales a lot and clearance but for regular prices, some are great values others aren't. For example, they have paint there as low as $0.69 full price and tools for resin at $0.99 for a silicone brush. However, their resin itself is $50 for 64oz when I can get a gallon elsewhere for that price. They also have dried flowers for scrapbooking and other crafts at $8.99+ for maybe 12 small flowers, 6 bigger ones if you want those. I've gotten 50+ for$10 on average other places. All in all I come in here frequently to check things out but it has been hit or miss. I have other locations I prefer. read more

I avoid going to the store for one reason only. The perfumed candles or whatever those scents are that they have are so seriously strong that if you have lung disease in any capacity this could land you in a hospital or dead. Other than that I would be there very often, but because of those fumes I cannot. Last time I was there I ended up in the emergency room. The fumes were so overpowering. I don't think that people realize that those cents, however lovely. They may seem they could be deadly for people with asthma, allergies or other lung issues. I really wish they would be aware of that. That is why I stay away from that store. That is the only reason. read more

Me and my wife came to grab some house decor. This store has a nice variety of items for what we needed for reasonable to cheap prices. Very easy to go in for one thing and wind up with a basket full of items. I don't really know what would warrant a 5 star experience in this store. When we walked in no one welcomed us and we were not approached by any employee asking if we needed help. That doesn't really bother me honestly. The cashier name was Luke and he was nice. We had a lot of items and to pass the time while he was wrapping up stuff he asked us a variety of questions (albeit random was fun to answer) and he told us to have a great day and to come back. Overall I recommend and had a good time with the wife. read more

I had been meaning to check out Hobby Lobby so today I finally decided to cure my own curiosity. It was interesting to see how they converted this space as this used to be the home of Ukrop's and Martin's formerly. Hobby Lobby has some very cute decor and furniture pieces! I really enjoy the Bible verses on the wall decor as well as some items in the stationary section. If you're a lover of farmhouse decor this might become your go to place. They've got a ton of fabric in the store, SO many wall decor hangings to choose from, and a super cute section for newborns. I would say the store is similar to AC Moore or Michaels, but in my opinion a little more pricey. I end up getting three items a binder, a lap desk for my laptop, and an in memory pet frame. All in all they've got a good selection, but I am not sure this would be my go to store for crafts and such. read more

Hoorary for Hobby Lobby opening a new location in Mexhanicsville. I am a lover of all things cute and crafty. I usually prefer to buy my office supplies from Hobby but this location underwhelmed me with its office supply section which was a bummer. So I went there with a coupon that I had at first thought was a Hobby Lobby coupon. When I got to the cashier she rudely told me that it wasn't a hobby lobby coupon. Her manager came up and told us both that hobbly lobby accepts their competitors coupons and told the female cashier to scan my coupon. The cashier absolutely REFUSED to scan the coupon even with her manager standing right in front of her. I have no issues with the store itself but the cashiers they hire are rude and are apparently incapable of pressing the button on the scanner with their manager standing over them telling them to honor the coupon. The cashier argued with me and told me I shouldn't need a coupon because most of what I got was on sale. Sorry not sorry that I'm not lil miss moneybags over here but I was astounded that even her manager told us both that my coupon from JoAnnes would be honored. To begin with I honestly thought I had brought a hobby lobby coupon and I did not realize that it was Joannes coupon until the manager pointed it out but in that same breath the manager said that they accept their competitors coupons and that they would accept mine. The cashier still refused to scan my coupon despite what her manager told her. I may just order offline rather than go in store again. read more
