Went here on a Sunday afternoon after church because I was craving some jerk chicken. Not sure why…read moreI expected the place to be packed, but I was literally the only customer in the restaurant the entire time. Reggae music was playing, but there was just no... vibe. Nothing in the decor or atmosphere that makes you want to go there to have an experience, enjoy the sights and sounds, people watch, etc. Just eat. I got my order takeout. The young man working the register who took my order was very nice and professional. Good customer service. I ordered the large jerk chicken and a chicken patty, and I'm glad I did! It was really good. They are generous with the portions (could've used more plantains relative to the amount of everything else, but...) and the meal did not miss! I will definitely be back the next time I'm craving jerk chicken... for takeout!

I didn't order any rice but the roti was all that I needed to complete my meal. My husband ordered a large curry goat plate with white rice, steamed vegetables, and plantain. My daughter ordered their veggie burger and fries. She said the fried were a little on the oily side for her liking, but the burger was really good. The total came up to $75 and I felt that was a gold price for everything we got. I also added a drink to the order as well. There is a spacious seating area inside if you want to dine-in. If you're feeling in the mood to have some fun, check them out on Friday evenings when they have karaoke vibes.

I have had Carribean and I'm a real foodie/traveler from all parts of the world. My hopes weren't…read morehigh coming here, and should of went with my intuition. Didn't wanna drive all across town for good Jamaican food so I came here this week. Let's just say costly for the quantity they give, and very little to nothing. I've been places where 25.00 dollars for peas and rice, oxtails, plantains and cabbage, will be plentiful, and can't finish on a good day, with no shortening. I feel there isn't any competition in this area, so you get a sense of they are the best, when they aren't. Well if you know know, then you know. Wanted the oxtail plate, but was told approximately only four oxtails come with it. SMH, FOR THE PRICE. Yes, you can choose two sides per plate, although additional plantains are 6 dollars more for an order of maybe 6. That's a dollar each almost, and just wanted a double order with my meal. Sides are Carribean/American mixed. No this isn't a Jamaican restaurant with all your taste buds flavors, and your quantity per meal/price. So I asked about the Jerk Chicken plate, which I like my oxtail gravy on my chicken and rice because I can't have alot of spice, meaning the jerk sauce. The cook told me, they don't normally do that...but she will honor it that night. Once again, customer has a preference in gravy versus sauce. She went added it on the side. But encourage me to try the jerk sauce on the side. Maybe cause I'm well traveled that oxtail gravy on the side taste like the broth from oxtail, but more like regular beef broth, no gravy. And the jerk sauce on the side also was bland, and plain. The jerk chicken by the way taste like it had Mrs. Dash orginal seasoning written all on it, and the portions were small, not what I'm use to elsewhere for those orders. And I could only imagine the oxtail plate...Smh, glad i didn't choose that. The wet mac n cheese and plantains were the only good thing. I guess every Carribean Island country is different, and how they do there plates. St. Croix by the way. But no justification to the seasoning and sauces. The cashier said they been open about two years, and yes I seen alot of people with either food delivery or takeout like myself that night, but not dining in. They do have a 4.5 stars on Google review, can't explain it why. Well, for the price and what you are getting isn't worth it here from my thoughts. And not to mention the drinks/juices are like 5.00 dollars or more. I'll leave this place at a 1 star, for the mac n cheese and plantains only.

Lucian's has been on my list for a while and I finally tried it out today…read more I love all the premier league football flags on the wall and also the Houston hbcu banners including my alma mater, TSU. The dining area is pretty spacious and on New Year's eve there were just a few other guests also dining there. A few others came in grabbed to go orders and left. The women's bathroom was spotless. I forgot to get our servers name but she was great and it didn't take too long for us to get our food besides the patties being made fresh to order. The beef, chicken and spinach patties were all fresh, flaky, crispy, and well seasoned with the perfect amount of spice. I had brown stew chicken with rice/peas, cabbage/carrots and plantains and my niece had jerk chicken with white rice, plantains and greens. All the food was good except I felt they skimped on my chicken portion a little and my chicken could've used a little more spice. It was cooked perfectly though, very tender and even though the portion was smaller than I'm used to it was just the right amount for me to eat during lunch, just not enough to take home for later like I'm used to doing at other Caribbean spots. We ended up getting patties, plantains and jerk chicken to go. Also, the patties were fresh and piping hot but the rest of our food was warm, almost room temperature.

I advised him of my food allergies (which suck) and he advised the kitchen. That always makes me feel better. The vibe is so chill and very Caribbean! I personally love it! On first and third Saturday's they host a Caribbean night with a band. So FUN!!!! I mean, who wouldn't want to feel like they were in the Caribbean for a few hours?! The food is to die for! We absolutely LOVE jerk chicken! We ordered two lunch jerk chicken plates, one with fried plantains and the other with sautéed cabbage, both with rice, one with white rice and one with peas and rice. The peas and rice one held a taste of sweetness. Amazing all around and will definitely be back! Highly recommended!!!

Thank god we found this!…read more After finishing our lunch at Wrap & Roll, we saw this out of the corner of the eye and decided to stop here as the girlfriend was looking for some caribbean snacks. Being from St Croix island in the Virgin Islands, seeing the menu and taking in the smells of this place gave her memories of back home. Of course I was happy to indulge her request as it gave me an opportunity to try some handheld eats. First the beef pattie, pretty big and so savory with the meat melting in your mouth and the dough having a nice texture and crust. And then the saheena; OMG! It was my first time having this lovely pastry which is made of chickpeas, spinach, and caribbean spices. You'll be hooked on this after one bite. Texture was similar to a savory piece of cornbread. Of course I was very happy with this item. The girlfriend ordered a currant roll which had some sweetness to it with a flaky crust. I enjoyed it but not as much as I was scarfing down my beef pattie and saheena. They also serve traditional caribbean eats including jerk chicken, oxtails, bake & saltfish, and roti wraps. We noticed a lot of people place to go orders here and call ahead for pick up. There were several bags of eats waiting as we witnessed people roll in and pick them up while having small talk with the owners. All those items looked delicious and we plan to come back and try those out. We also talked to the owners for a bit, they're a husband/wife team who've owned/operated this place for a while. Super polite and gracious, they helped me navigate the menu and explained what the items would be like when I ordered. Sadly I could not get the Aloo Pie (sold out) but they assured me it's worth having and to come back and try it (which we will). Pearland is lucky to have this place here. Definitely recommend trying it out for yourself!

Entrees are served with rice& beans, salad and plantains. I opted not to buy anything for myself, but now, after eating one of my father's oxtails...I've decided to go back for dinner. I can't believe I waited so long to try the GOLDEN BOWL. This is one of the best bites to enter my mouth in a long time. ChopnBlok is nestled away inside of POST Houston. Their menu is quaint, and in fact, the famous Golden Bowl was not visible on the menu. Fortunately, the had a few signature dishes on display - the Golden Bowl was one of them. The Golden Bowl is one of the most complex and well balanced dishes I've ever had. Sweet, salty, smoky, spicy, and soulful, this dish is an explosion for flavors that will have your tongue tingling. The succulent grilled chicken, fluffy jollof jambalaya, stewed plantain and crunchy black eyed peas work together to create an unbelievable mix of textures that keep you excited for the next bite... and the next... and then suddenly it's gone. My only regret was sharing the bowl with my husband. I could probably eat two orders in one sitting. If you haven't had a Golden Bowl, please do your tastebuds a favor and get yourself over to ChopnBlok.

We ended up not going because of the wait but I went back with a friend earlier today and it was REALLY good. Like insanely good. I got the Chicken and Gravy while my friend got the Chicken and Waffles and we both finished our plates cleanly. The service was slow, yes, but they were extremely nice and did have multiple prefaces regarding the wait time. The only I had food wise was that the candied sweet potatoes were a little too sweet for me (and trust me, I love myself some candied sweet potatoes) and I feel like the okra or another one of the sides would've been a better fit for me. The chicken I had was extremely tender and juicy, and the gravy had the perfect amount of sweet and salty where I just gobbled it down with everything. The vibe is nice and homey and overall this place was just great. It for sure isn't someplace you can rush through in 30 minutes, but that kinda adds to the experience that you get the minute you walk in.
