First, they only accept cash which should be a red flag from the get go, then they told me that despite my Health Insurance's 35$ copay they would only see me for 75$. I really needed an albuterol inhaler so I said fine and paid. Once I saw the doctor a few things struck me as being very bizarre right out the gate: 1) Dr. Smec tried to up-sell me on some vitamin supplements that would've cost me 95$ or some horses#@t out of pocket. I've never had a doctor in my life try to directly sell me something that they should just be telling you to buy on your own at a pharmacy or health food place. 2) She told me that instead of using the albuterol inhaler I use for the asthma that I've lived with my entire life, that instead I should suck on Himalayan salt crystals. I'm surprised she didn't try to sell me a salt shaker for 60$. 3) She tried to get me to pay out of pocket to go to a facility where she'd "find out the root of my problem". Again, she reiterated that this would not be covered by my insurance and that it would be expensive. 4) She wrote me a prescription for one, one albuterol inhaler with NO refills. One. Upon contacting my pharmacy to try to get another, after finding out I had no refills, the pharmacist and I tried to contact her several times. My pharmacist left several messages and I called twice both times I was asked to leave a message. The doctor never responded to me or my pharmacist. Finally, a week later, my pharmacist got in contact with Dr. Smec and she denied my refill. I have been using albuterol for years. It is not a controlled substance and I don't somehow abuse it. What is a fact is during allergy season I really need an inhaler and have now not had one for almost a week. DR. SMEC IS A SNAKE OIL SALESMAN, A FRAUD, AND A QUACK. It's all about the $$$ to her. She'll try to sell you over priced crap, and tell you to do things like suck on salt. Who knows how many people with different ailments she's told to suck on salt. What a joke. I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau and Office of Professional Medical Conduct. What a sham and a waste of time and money.

For unforeseen personal circumstances I had to cancel my membership, not even 18 hours after I had signed up. Sent them an email explaining I had to cancel for now but hopefully will resume in the future. And they are charging me $150 cancellation fee. No sympathy to personal circumstances, just claiming it's for administrative purposes. I can understand if they have already processed my application, or have offered me some of their services, but none of that had happened. I had literally signed up around 3pm on a Tuesday and emailed them about cancellation at 8am on Wednesday. They've been so difficult to deal with, kept repeating the fact that they have a $150 cancellation fee without any empathy or rationale for the fee. It is quiet shocking to experience this level of customer service in today's society when customer service is crucial to a business reputation. But they seem to not care. I would stay away!

One affected area got infected (I think because of the treatment actually but I don't blame the Dr for that really), so she had to come back and have a small procedure that included numbing some areas using medicine administered by a (tiny) needle. My daughter totally freaked! Shaking, sweating, crying, yelling at one point I'm sure. My 5 stars is 100% because of the way Dr Davis and her assistants handled my freaking out daughter. They treated her with kindness and patience, but also like a patient getting a small procedure done - that is, straightforward, confident, respectful. They explained everything they were doing and answered her questions factually. Dr Davis intuitively knew that "babying" her or brushing off her hysterical questions was not the way to go. She exudes a combination of warmth and professionalism that I appreciate. We will absolutely continue to see her.

Ok, so it might be considered a tad strange to review your OBGYN. Talking about your doctor,…read moreespecially your Gynecologist, is considered private subject matter for some women. It's like the Seinfeld episode when Jerry asks a few women who their personal doctor is and gets slapped in the face. That's kinda how I feel about writing this in public domain but then again, a quality doctor is so hard to find. How else will you know if they're good unless the patient reviews?? I discovered Dr. Gershowitz by way of my Uncle. I know strange but my Uncle worked for Montefiore Medical Center for almost 25 years so when it came to doctors he always had the best resources. I've been going to Dr. Gershowitz for a few years now and after some pretty crappy OBGYN experiences, she is the best. Nice bedside manner and gets down to business. Prepares and explains everything she is going to do. Is thorough in her questioning and seems genuinely concerned about her patients well being. She will always give her honest opinion as a doctor, not as someone promoting a medication. Things to know: -The office line is usually busy. Keep trying. - Expect for it to be hard to get an appointment. When you call be prepared that your appointment may be scheduled weeks or even months in advance. -They don't take debit or credit card payments under $20 so if your co-pay is less, bring cash. -Dr. Gershowitz is perpetually late and sometimes disappears after your appointment even if she wants to talk to you. Be patient, schedule at least 60-90 minutes in your own calendar for your visit. Another secret tip, Dr. Gershowitz is quite liberal with BC samples. A nice plus.

And Dr. Gershowitz used to be very warm and seemed to care about your problems, but I went in a few months ago concerned about a potential STD and she brushed off my concerns saying my symptoms were "most likely" a result of my birth control. I insisted on being tested anyway, and luckily although they did come back negative for STDs, I did have a bacterial infection that would have gotten worse if I didn't treat it. It just frustrates me that my doctor, who has supposedly been in this field for a long time, would downplay legitimate concerns and symptoms. I felt like she was in such a rush to see other patients that my concerns were being treated like I just wanted attention. Then when I called for a follow-up appointment, I was told the next available was over 2 months away. Maybe this is just a NYC thing, but it's totally ridiculous to me that someone should have to wait TWO MONTHS to take care of their health. It's great she's so popular, but maybe she should limit taking new patients so she can actually take care of the ones she already has. I'm finding another gyno that actually has time for me.
