This place is NOT SAFE!! I tilted my chair over the machine and walked 15 feet to my friend only to observe my ticket of 400.00 being quickly pulled out of my machine. I ran over and said that was my money in the machine and she said "once you leave the machine it's not yours anymore". We headed to security where they proceeded to separate us to speak individually with the guards. While supposedly "looked at the recordings", I remained with my security guard. The other guard allowed the thief to go "gamble" with my ticket in hand. After their "investigation" they went to find her. She had left. What a surprise? Around the same time, my friend sat next to a man who said he dropped his ticket and seconds later he turned to pick it up and another person had snagged it off the floor. He asked for his ticket back and the man said it was now his. So IF you go to this casino in Madison, watch your back, hold tight to your belongings and take your tickets with you even if you walk 5 feet away from your machine. So much for fun. read more

We enjoy hitting the casinos periodically and making our donations to the various Indian tribes at the slot machines. I will preface this review by saying this is one of my least favorite casinos in terms of layout, games available, amenities & certainly winning. We stop once in awhile when passing through Madison. It's the 7-Eleven of casinos. I like to refer to this casino as "The Country Casino" based on the clientele that it draws. Lots of elderly, disabled and other locals from the small communities around Madison looking for a little excitement & looking to spend their Covid stimulus checks (even though they won't get the shot) Upon entering the casino, the security guard, who was masked, asked us to pull down our mask for a peek at our faces. I'm not sure why that was other than to try engage how old we were (old enough...). The security guard was about the only person in there that was masked besides our party. The casino has been freshened up a bit but overall is still lacking & somewhat depressing compared to other casinos. The the ceilings are very low, and the layout of the casino is like a labyrinth giving it a claustrophobic feel. The air conditioning definitely was not working on the day we were there. It was hot and crowded inside. There is only one bar and one restaurant/snack bar, which was closed. There are very few places to sit, take a break and relax. This includes around the bar which usually has soft seating areas or tables in other casinos. As with many other Indian casinos the slot machine games were of the older variety. Many machines had signs taped to the screens indicating they were out of order. There were only a few slot machines with partitions between them as covid safety precautions. I did not see anyone wiping down the machines or disinfectant wipes available to the public. Since this is Trump territory I guess that was to be expected. A potential super spreader environment. Our visit this time was consistent with our other visits (we lost). Felt like I needed to take a shower after we left. I think the next time we are in the Madison area we will just keep driving by. However if you want to make a quick pit stop on your travels and make a donation at the slot machines, go for it! I have to say losing money in Vegas is much more fun! read more

Disgusting sexist and disrespectful heavily male employed security guards... beware ladies Coming from someone who is a 17+ year patron who goes several times a week I have never been more disgusted and mistreated by their security staff.... while patiently waiting in line outside to get in there were 2 male security guards walking in the parking lot describing a woman by her horrible eyebrows and "pants she definitely should not have been waiting"... really? That's how your staff treat and describe women freely in front of other patrons? .... after finally getting our turn to go inside after waiting outside in the 28 degree weather we go on like normal and get our temperature checked and mine reads "lo" meaning I was cold, you know from waiting outside without a coat for sometime... I'm told to stand aside next to another gentleman and wait. 3 people go by fine, another guy reads low but then they just check his temple and let him by... the other guard comes over and tells the guy in front of me to put his hat down and rub his forehead... well sure enough he reads fine... I go to rub my forehead and get told NO!! and it reads low again and I'm told it's my 5th time... it was my second time in 1 min but the male security guards tell me I need to leave.... oh but all the men that read low have no problem just the single woman in line where they take my Temporel thermometer reading on my temple, everyone else is was there forehead .... definitely some major sexism and discrimination going on with their heavily populated male security staff.... watch out ladies... then I call and ask out of curiosity since the requirements say nothing about a low temperature, only no admission of someone with a temperature over 100.4° and the " security supervisor" Who happened to be the same guy at the front door babbled on about how they have to have some kind of reading and again just was a complete jerk on the phone.... sad sad sad read more

I know not everyone is a fan of casinos. But if you do enjoy going, why not game in smoke free comfort. This for me is the biggest draw for me. The hour and fifteen minute drive from Milwaukee is not bad either. They just added a new bar area on the casino floor. It would be nice if they had more space and could add table games. It's a casino...granted you are going to LOSE some, if not all the money that you bring with or take out. However, in contrast with some of the bigger casinos (AKA Potawatomi...) this is one of the better ones to stop by on a "rainy day," or preferably if you have the money to spend. They have quite a wide variety of "penny" slots that are available. It's not overly crowded, and it's also smoke-free. Those are the perks. The food isn't bad either, I had a burger w/ complimentary fries. The soda is also free, along with a station to get coffee there w/ creamer, etc. I don't see myself making the drive again anytime soon...the "rewards" program isn't very good, and they don't have "comps" like some of the more popular casinos, as mentioned above. I don't generally do casinos, so take this review for what it's worth. My wife and I rarely gamble. In fact, we didn't come here to gamble - we played with house money + I believe a total of $4 of our own dollars. Ho-Chunk does well giving out freeplay dollars at various events around the Madison area. We came in on two separate times using free play money only, for about 45-60 minutes each time. Each time we left a combined...wait for it... $60 and $20 ahead! We had our fun for an hour, took our money and left. I'm assuming this works in the casino's favor when they bring in regular gamblers, so please continue giving out free play! I probably wouldn't come in and buy your drinks/food otherwise (no offense, I avoid casinos/gambling otherwise). This place is smoke-free which is a major plus. If they continue to give out freeplay awards around town, they'll definitely see me again. We needed the staff to help us with setting up our players club and freeplay on the machines and the people at the front desk were super accommodating and helped us get set up. It seems they're trained well or they hire well on customer service. Kudos. I thought the place was very clean and well-maintained. They could probably get 5 stars (and perhaps some of my actual $) if they had table games, but we enjoyed it for what it was. read more

The clientele here look like depressed, down on their luck dejected humps as the gamble away the months last welfare and social security dimes. I'm no stranger to the gambling hall, but I've never seen so many pajama clad people in one place. Bring back the gambling of old!!! What happened to looking like you could afford to drop a few? The slots are tight... so tight that I'd have a better chance being seen on the town w/ Mila Kunis before winning anything here. The staff is useless as a broken compass. When the changer machine broke, I waited for nearly an hour to be helped. When I finally did get service, the employee was as personable as my soiled undershorts. How about a smile? Smiles make us forget how bad we've just been spanked. If you like good food, don't eat here. The prices are insane, and the taste is even worse. I paid 8 dollars for a piece of fish that resembled a lightly breaded carp, 3 french fries and a salad smaller than my wallet was after 2 hours in this place. "Free" soda is available. The Pepsi should be called "brown water" since the Ho-Chunk likes to skimp on the syrup. Comps?? Just like DeJope's big brother.... None. Ho-Chunk: now smoke free! Mostly. While there's no smoking allowed in doors anymore, the smell of smoke has seeped into the carpet, chairs, and whatever else is capable of holding a smell. It's not overwhelming, but it definitely isn't a fresh scent when you walk in the doors. I had only been to Ho-Chunk once before and we kept to the non-smoking room. It was nice to be able to freely roam all of the slot machines this time and play whatever spoke to my friend - she is the true gambler between us. Unfortunately the machines were whispering "lose all your money" that day, but I fared a little better. To mix it up a bit I decided to put $5 in one of their non-video slot machines and ended up coming out ahead $3.81. Whoop whoop! High roller! I appreciated the free soda and the onion rings the grill was making smelled ridiculously good - since I'd eaten a giant breakfast of potatoes and pancakes, though, I decided to forego the deep fried goodness. Tip for gambling newbies like me: to cash out, take your slip to the ATMs stationed around the playing floor - it'll cash you out in addition to taking your card if you need cash for the machines when you arrive. read more

I have to say I was a little disappointed I did not see anyone wiping off the machines in between players. If you wanted something to drink even a soda you had to pay for it. So I went to Ho Chunk Casino at the Dells this weekend and what a difference from the one in Madison. There bar and grill is open. They have an employee serving the free soda, coffee and water to customers with a table separating us for safety. It's very clean. The machines were actually paying, maybe not a lot, however, a person could get some playing time and not loose everything in a very short time. They are very respectful towards customers. There's no reason what so ever why Madison Ho Chunk cannot serve there customers in a lot more appreciative manner then they do, after all we are what keeps them in business. read more

Today was my final outing to this dump. I have spent a boatload of cash at this place throughout the years, but I had many good winning visits and even a jackpot once in a while. Now, you're lucky if you can get a bonus round on a particular slot; I watched numerous visitors dropping hundreds of dollars into one machine this afternoon without a win and my experience mirrored that as well. Security? What a disgrace...I was verbally attacked and threatened by a woman who accused me of walking in front of her at the ATM. This quickly became a shouting match with her, an African- American, hurling racial insults at me. How nice...But not a single security officer in sight. Potential violence from a fellow patron looking to pick a fight over some non-existent event. Wow...just wow. Was here 3 days ago from Illinois sitting at a game when they called our license plate and car description over the speaker. Went to main security desk and some young punk was working. Told him why we were there and he just kept grinning and smirking and said we would have to talk to security at front desk. We kept asking him why they paged us and did someone hit our car and he said nothing. Went to front door security where some really old guy was working and there was some couple standing there who said they witnessed some old lady hit our car. They yelled at her to stop but she just drove away. Went out to parking lot to view damage and when we came back inside, couple ws gone. Another inept security person was there and had all the information written down on a piece of paper. We asked if he would give it to us and said he could not but he said we could call Madison police and make a report, but since the damage was less than $1000 they probably wouldn't come. We came to visit Madison and were looking for things to do. We love to gamble, going to Vegas, New Orleans, and Coushatta a few times a year. We read the reviews, and even though there were some negative ones, we decided to give it a try. We had a great time! The service was great and the beer was cold. We do like getting free ones at other casinos but we didn't mind paying for these. The slot machines were fun. We found a few that we sat at for quite awhile. We do like table games-so missed having that option...but I think if you like to have fun with your friends and gamble for a bit-you should give it a try. read more

Why this place has Class II slots I will never figure out, but it's really hurting their reputation. These machines are actually aiding you in the playing of BINGO, and the graphics, bonuses, and theatrics are there for show. Each machine has a BINGO card on it, and when you hit "spin" that actually starts a game of BINGO. If you hit a BINGO, you win something (the amount depends on some other factor I'm not familiar with, but it doesn't have clear logic behind it). If not, you don't win. Sometimes 25+ bingo balls are drawn. Sometimes there's less than 10. It's really dumb and I can imagine the house advantage being close to 15% for these machines (normal slots run around 8%, with blackjack running 0.5%!). There is a poker room here (electronic poker) but I haven't done that so I can't comment on it. The usual HCG free pop policy still holds here, and there are several machines located around the property. Because it's technically BINGO, this casino is open to 18 year olds and up, and thus does NOT serve booze. Unless there is some great promotion or a good band or something, I wouldn't come here. It's hard to win or even have fun when you see you hit a BINGO on the machine but only get 10% of your original bet back.
