I received a free room offer from Ho-Chunk Black River Falls and called and reserved a room. The offer also said $75 free play and $25 gas certificate. I booked two weeks ago and had confirmation email. Fast-forward to Dec 26th...date of reservation...was told it was an error and they wouldn't honor the free room, nor was I eligible for the free play or gas certificate. I stayed anyway and paid full price for the room because a family member teavelled 3 hours to join me. I won't patronize them again! Period! Bait and switch offer, marginal food in buffet for high price, Fitness Center Closed, no pool or hot tub, not even a continental breakfast you'd get at a sleazy hotel. Stopped here while coming thru on the way to MKE and won't be back. Table games start at 2pm? Amateur much? And there are no table games on Sundays? What. To make matters worse - when I asked if I could purchase a $1 chip for a souvenir the cashier (older lady with white hair) obnoxiously told me no and I had to buy it from a table. Tables aren't open on Sunday. Policy is policy I get it - but at other casinos they still were fine with selling a $1 chip to me. I read a review that the slots were tight. I'm here to represent that statement as completely true. There were 8 (eight) of us that went. Each person had a 500. maximum spending limit for slots. Everyone of us lost our $500 ($4000.00 Total) in about an hour. We could not get out of there fast enough. No one, as in not a single one of the 8, could win more than a $20 spin (jackpot?). If there's a good band to see, check 'em out. If the roads are too bad to travel, get a room. We stayed at Ho-Chunk Gaming Black River Falls Hotel with plans to attend Warren's Cranberry Festival; the hotel was about a half-hour drive to the cranberry festival. We were VERY HAPPY with our stay at Ho-Chunk Black River Falls. Check-In went smoothly and the desk clerk was very friendly. Our king-bed room was on the first floor and seemed new. It was extremely clean, with a very large bathroom. The bed was comfortable, the price to stay here was affordable, and I can't preference enough how clean the room was. Check-out was also super easy - we just dropped our keys in a box on the way out. The casino was also quite enjoyable. The hotel/casino is very conscientious about COVID with mask and temp checks when entering the casino. The casino itself felt clean with attendants wiping down machines, as well as hand sanitizer and wipes readily available throughout the casino. They have a good selection of slot machines, a few tables were open, as well as BINGO. We really enjoyed our stay and gambling in the casino. I would absolutely return to Ho-Chunk Gaming Black River Falls Hotel and am only disappointed that I don't have reason to visit this location more often. read more

The new hotel is very nice. I have to say it has the nicest shower of any hotel I have stayed. In fact, if I could bring that shower to my house, I would be the happiest one. The rest of the room was very comfortable and clean. The casino is smaller but it had a nice variety of slots. The bar area isn't huge and we waited a while to get a drink but it wasn't terrible. For breakfast we got sandwiches and hash browns from the little grill type place. It isn't fancy but the food was fine. All in all I would come back and hang here another night. read more

I go back and forth between 3 stars and 4 stars. There is ample parking and the facility is always clean. The smoking section of the casino is never too smoky. We go for the buffet. It is priced well but I find it limited on food choices. The salad bar is very limited. My husband loves their ribs. Desserts are also very limited in choices. On Sunday it is a bit of a cross between breakfast and dinner. The breakfast items were okay. Nothing that stands out. This time the fresh fruit was well stocked, however, in the past it was lacking variety and needed replunishing. The food is a solid good...so I go back to 3 stars. read more

Very unethical business! We booked a room for Sept 22, 2023 for two nights. We are part of a larger group attending a wedding in the area. We were all notified that they were raising the price on all our rooms by a 100.00 a night. They obviously did this because all the motels in the area are now booked up for Cranberry Feast and they could force us to pay at the last minute. The receptionist was a bit rough, not a personality I'd seen at any hotels. We got to our room which had a note in our door that it was cleaned and sanitized for our safety... I guess that's what killed all of the gnats on the desk and chair. No other bugs were found. Long dark hairs on the bathroom floor and in the bathroom drawers; change left inside the end table. Went to buy a toothbrush and receptionist said they were in the vending machine. So, the machine took our money but didn't dispense the toothbrush. We went back to the receptionist. She said, oh yea, they've been having trouble with those machines but they have nothing to do with them. I'd have to call the number on the machine. I called and gave the person my story. She only took my phone number. I asked if I'd get a refund- the woman said she didn't know, she marked that I requested it. Really? So, we had to drive to the gas station to get one. Thought we'd regroup and go down to the buffet. It was closed,due to staffing issues, but there was a little bistro as they call it. They sell fast food. The guy who took our order was very funny and friendly. (First friendly person we had met here.) We ordered. We sat down and soon a woman slowly walked over and plopped down our food and walked away. I looked for maybe a knife and fork by the soda machines and had to ask this woman if they had any. She didn't look at me our speak. She just held out her arm and pointed to the other side of the room. Very unfriendly. I've never met so many unfriendly people in a business in my life! I must say that the bartender in the casino was nice. This morning my husband went down to the Bistro to get breakfast at 8:30am. They said they hoped to be open for breakfast by 10:30.(?) This is for Bingo - first off the line was out the door and they had only one register open. It took me 30 min to get a bingo card. Pathetic. We ordered 2 silver packages, only received one but when I confirmed it with the paymaster, they told me that they had it right. Missed out on a few games before I realized we were missing a whole packet because everyone had double of what we had. I travel quite a bit and the new hotel is N.I.C.E. you can tell everything is brand new since February. They offered $5 off buffet and snack bar as well as $10 free play gambling which was cool. Very comfy beds with lots of pillows and accurate thermostat! One downfall besides losing all my money was the food. The buffet was horrible at about a 3/10. We needed a place to stay on our summer Roadtrip Across Part of America and happened to think it would be a great idea to stay at a casino slash motel. No complaints here, price was reasonable (just over $100) for a deluxe room with jacuzzi tub and king sized bed. There was even a helpful sign on the front door instructing guests to leave their firearms outside of the establishment. Awesome! Reasonably clean space in both the motel and the casino. I do have to mention that the entire facility reeks of cigarette smoke, so if that isn't your bag honey, keep moving! We had fun at the casino and somehow managed to win $50 using the $20 free rewards play that came with the room for each guest. Also received two vouchers for $3.00 each to use at the snack bar, which we utilized to stock up on chips, candy, and TUMS (essentials for road tripping!). This is the worst buffet EVER- I'm not sure if the Health Department doesn't have to rate this place because it's on an Indian Reservation and maybe off limits? ....because if they did, it would be deemed unfit for human consumption. We went for Friday Seafood night and there were maybe 10 items to choose from total- the dessert table looked like wild raccoons had attacked it- the cake looked like it had been smashed in someone's face and then they placed what was left of it back on the tray. I have been here three times. Each time it is the first weekend in June. I will review both the casino and the hotel. Casino: This is your typical Ho-Chunk casino. Bingo Hall, assorted slots, snack bar, buffet and bar. There is a small no smoking section by the hotel entrance. It is clean and not smokey. They do offer free alcoholic beverages to those who are gambling. The staff is friendly. We have won a decent amount on each visit. Hotel: This three story hotel is not a 4 star by any means. The front desk staff always friendly and helpful. The lobby is small, but has a free non-alcoholic beverage bar. The rooms are spacious and always clean. The decor is pretty much American Indian. Beds and pillows are comfortable. This is a decent place to play and stay if you are in the area. They have a "Stay and Play" package that gives you $10 of free play per adult plus discounts off their food. If you get a Rewards Card, you receive an additional 10% off the room. You can always pick that up at the rewards desk right before you check in. read more

Are you looking for the worst buffet ever?! Well you just hit the jackpot (literally!) We were hungry and in the area so we decided to hit the buffet at HoChunk! Well, if I knew I was going to leave hungry I would've taken my business somewhere else. But let's start from the beginning. Before I lost my appetite. We came into the casino and headed to the card services since we didn't have our cards with us to hit up the casino after dinner. The lady that helped us was super nice and friendly and does her job awesomely! She gave us directions to the buffet that we'd been craving. Who doesn't love a good buffet, right? Wrong. We entered and the gentlemen that was our hostess didn't say much more than 3 words to us when he took us to a table...a hello or welcome would have been fitting, but he gave us the impression he'd rather us not be there than to do his job. Our waitress was just as friendly. Apparently she loves her job too. We should've just left then, but we were hungry & those 2 employees weren't going to ruin my kidless date night out. We proceeded to the buffet...this is after we looked around for plates because apparently those are scare at a buffet when there is only like 4 people in the establishment besides us. As we picked through the food that had been out and not recirculated for probably hours was nothing more than gross. The area hadn't been wiped down and the cutting board where I can only assume someone stands to cut meat was empty and left to dry out. The fish was uneatable. The ribs were tough and over cooked. The BBQ sauce was the only thing appealing. The food was lukewarm. The baked potatoes were shriveled and brown when you took the aluminum foil off of them. Prime rib was overcooked and tough. My 2nd plate was a salad because that appeared to be the only thing that looked 1/2 way fresh. The salad dressing however was sitting in room temperature water instead of ice which makes it absolutely so wonderful to put warm salad dressing on your salad! Gross. Finished off with dessert because that at least looked halfway appetizing. On the other hand the only thing that we both seemed to like was the chocolate cake. But hold on...it gets better. We go to pay...we didn't leave a tip because the overall service & food sucked, but the waitress screwed us over on the change she gave back to us. She told me she was short a penny...ok, not a big deal, but after we got outside the restaurant it didn't seem to add up right in my head and I suck at math so I pulled out my receipt and my phone and sure enough...she screwed us both over $1.50!! Granted that's not much, but WTF!! All I can say is I WILL NEVER GO BACK!! Horrible service was one thing, but to screw both of us over on our change is another thing!! Maybe she rips everyone off!? Guess a little here and there would add up. I will not recommend this buffet to anyone!! However, we had a good time at the casino the short time we stuck around. Here is my beef with this casino.....they have roulette but won't let you play unless it's Friday night, maybe. Not a bad casino overall, very small, a few table games like black jack and three card poker etc. Their lack of staffing seems to be the biggest problem as the table is never open. As a fan of roulette and knowing that it has one if the highest house edges, it's baffling to me as to why they can't open the table up on the weekends. If you want anything besides slots or blackjack go to the dells, much bigger place with all casino games to include multiple craps tables and poker room. It is just so cute! This little gem of a casino is located just outside of Black River Falls Wisconsin between Osseo and Tomah. A small but fun little casino, very casual, clean and well... cute. It is located in a beautiful area of the Black River State Forest. There is a hotel, a buffet, a snack bar (try the hard shell tacos and try the prime rib sandwich... seriously... that sandwich is CRAZY good!). This casino manages to blend northwoods, small town feel and a casino environment flawlessly with friendly caring customer service and a client base that doesn't reek of axe body spray. Well, what do you do if you live or visit Black River Falls and you do not want to hunt or fish? I guess the only other thing you can do is gamble. I was visiting family in BRF and chose to stay at the hotel. They did a full remodel of the rooms and are still remodeling. First, the rooms were not bad. They were all new construction and the bathroom was very large and nice. One drawback is there was no fan in the bathroom for steam. One major thing that scared me was my wife told me there was a post it note on a computer by the front desk stating bed bugs with a room number. Yikes! 2-3 stars Next, the food ... we went on a Friday night for the seafood night. We had $5 off each for staying at the hotel. The food was absolutely horrible. The crab legs were maroon almost black in color and a small bite tasted rancid. The ribs were fatty. They had some meat in a brown gravy that looked scary. The salad bar just had bottles of old dressings. The only thing edible was the mashed potatoes. On top of the horrible food - we sat sucking on ice cubes for 20 min with no one coming by for refills. Our plates filled with the nasty food not being taken away. The next day, we tried the Bistro. We had an ultra cheap hamburger, sandwich style snack shop. Everyone seemed to be eating there. The food was extremely hit or miss. The burger was ok, but we also ordered the phily cheesesteak on recommendation from the worker at the front counter. It was a joke! The plate arrived covered in cheese and under that cheese lay bread and not so good tasting meat. As soon as it would get busy all hell would break loose - orders were wrong. My wife got the wrong order and waited 20 min for the right sandwich she ordered and when it was brought out the worker knew it looked like garbage and asked is this ok. Third, the gambling - it was not bad - won and lost. The only problem was all the fun new games were on the horrible smoking side. But, thats just my opinion - check it out for yourself! read more

This is my fifth time playing bingo here in the past two months. I guess I will go ahead with a review. Like any other casino it is full of smoke. Not sure why it can't be ventilated out, maybe it will take too much heat with it. I primarily play bingo but we do occasionally hit the slots when we have rewards credit to burn off. I would like to see the bingo hall have non smoking tables. That would be awesome. It is always a crap shoot to see if a chain smokers sits down across from you. Their are two giant fans in the bingo hall I am yet to see move. With their size it would clear out the smoke in seconds. Went to the buffet for dinner on Feb. 9th for dinner. Was the worst buffet I have ever eaten at. Cashier was very mouthy with us on the way out which to me either he is very inmature or didn't give a damn about my opinion on my experience. Prime rib was way over cooked and to top that off they didn't have anyone carving the prime rib. Customers were forced to cut their own and the person who cut mine looked like a homeless person, Everything we at was overcooked including the chicken which was very very dry and the ribs were much the same. Our server at our table wasn't a bit friendly and never returned after serving our drinks of even asked of everything was ok. I have been in the meat business all my life as a regional manager and if I treated my customers like they do it would have been shame full. They need to review their mission statement for the buffet and make changes immediately regarding service and quality. I would highly recommend that they would need to visit Castle Hills buffet and see how their buffet is presented to their customers and see how to present your buffet to your customers in a professional manner. I spent $42.00 for the dinner and would have been better served to stop at Perkins and had a meal that was edible. My piece of advice would be to get your act together or close the buffet up. I'm so disappointed in the "new" buffet. We were at the casino because there were a few concerts going on there so we decided to eat at the buffet. One would think the kitchen would be more prepared knowing it's a full weekend but we waited over 20 minutes for prime rib to come out, the soups and gravy look like they had been sitting out all day, the stuffed green peppers were more like green peppers sitting in tomato rice soup. Most the other food was very bland except the lemon pie (nothing else on dessert bar) my friend took one bite and had to spit it out in her napkin cause it tasted like motor oil. My husband and I stayed for 3 nights. We really enjoyed the hotel and bingo. Granted we knew we were not going to a 5 star casino, so we did not expect that. However, after all the horrible reviews we read, we were pleasantly surprised. The buffet was not horrible, but it was exactly what was expected. A 2 star buffet and it was good for a 2 star; better than Ponderosa. The bartenders were absolutely fabulous. Great customer service! The hotel rooms were really nice. The bathroom in our room was incredible. We did not win any money, but we had a great experience. The place was packed all weekend and everyone was friendly. I think if they stay that busy, they must be doing something right. The only reason it did not get 5 stars is because it was not exceptional customer service by all the employees; but just normal customer service by most. read more

I've been to this establishment a multiple of times. This has got to be the worst experience I have ever had here. The website says check in is 3pm the native women at counter was rude and told me 4pm. The room was still not ready at 4pm. Granted we got a whirlpool room because my girlfriend is pregnant and we could control the heat. The whirlpool when turned on spit out a yellowish liquid and tub was not cleaned very well, every time the neighbors went to the bathroom or run water we could hear it through our whirlpool. I went to complain and there was no manager on duty. The gentleman assured me that she would call me the next day. STEPHANIE never called. It's typical on how they run things. Outta site outta mind. The snack bar run outta some food and they didn't seem to be bothered by anything. I'm so disappointed in the customer service and how I was treated like I was being a burden. You're in the customer service industry, you should at least treat a customer with a little more respect. Probably won't bother staying here again. read more
