I think there's something that people that go to Kathan's should know about how the owner treats…read morehis customers. I went there last night with my 2 year old for her first time. My 12 year old never enjoyed going, so I was super excited to see if my 2 year old would ejoy that with me, like I did with my mom growing up. I've been going here my whole life, no matter how many berries we got I would enjoy the experience with my little one. So we get there, and she's having a blast. Loved the baby skunk we passed driving in, loved the cows we passed even more while driving in, and then a deer comes out not to far away from use to eat and she couldn't even believe. I thought she was going to explode with excitement. She pretended to call her daddy and tell him about all the things she saw and how awesome the berries were with the flag marker that comes with the box. Berry juice running down her face, we were enjoying every minute of our experience and I was loving it that she was loving being there too. Then it all turned into a TOTAL NIGHTMARE. The owner came out on his four wheeler screaming at us to leave, to leave imediately, to grab my stuff now, he means now, that they've ben there since 7 and are closed. Over and over. Watched me pick up my daughter on one hip and my berries trying to put on the other shoulder and carry both while hurrying and he's still yelling and watching me like I wasn't going to leave, whipped a U turn right in front of us while NO OFFER to help with the berries or anything, kept looking back like I wasn't going to leave. It was a total nightmare. The whole ride home my daughter didn't remember one fun thing about what we had done there, just the man yelling at us and making her mommy cry. The lady in the shed was very understanding and tried to do what she could, but after being treated as we were there was absolutely nothing that could be done to undo that. Yet today, I still can't believe that happened and it still upsets me to think about that whole thing. Proceed with caution while going there, cause apparently anything is possible and he has absolutly no regard for the customer's or the people who've made a whole life of memories with people going to Kathan's to pick berries.

Luckily a friend of mine KNOWS how much I love U-Pick farms. Of all kinds. And this one is…read morecompletely full of flowers. Wild flowers, sun flowers, other flowers I didnt even know the name for.... Their season is short (Minnesota summers are short) but that makes it all the more special when you can sneak away from the city and explore Berry and Bloom Farm. It's also the most instagrammable spot ever, and the most quaint. The U-pick flower portion is on the "honor system." It is family owned, they only ask people leave a couple bucks for a few flowers (vases can be purchased for a few dollars more.) And I would probably hunt someone down if they took advantage of this amazingly open, kind, gift to humanity. I didn't take any flowers home, but left a few dollars any way because you truly can FEEL how much love and passion goes into this farm. Please understand that if you plan to visit: family owned. Small farm. Trusting people. Dont ruin the kindness :) Its about 30 minutes out of Rochester (great spot to explore if youre visiting the Mayo Clinic on a health trip.) Be sure to check their website though to ensure they are still open. This is going to be a permanent stop every time I visit this part of Minnesota.

We had visited the orchard years before, and it was easy to remember because they have Jonathan Apple apple trees all along the driveway up to the shop! The apples are so nice it is tempting to pull one through your car window on the way up! They had pies baking as we walked in, heavenly!! You can buy a whole pie, or by the slice, 'ala mode even! A lot of apple desserts, blueberry crisps, cream cheese topped apple muffins.. and a fantastic view from their dining area! The orchard is clean and well marked, will be going back for more apples soon!!

We got a free hay ride where they told us about the history of the orchard, as well as many cool facts about apples. I had no idea that there were over a thousand types of apples! They have a cute little jungle gym for kids to play on while you pick their delicious apples. The honesycrisp are to die for when they are ready. The real fireworks came when we tried their honesycrisp cider. Holy smokes. I would pay whatever they asked of me for that stuff. We honestly went home with six gallons of it because the told us it freezes well. I like that they have a little bakery and seating area. I do wish they haf a little more variety of food and drink options, but we got applr doughnuts and apple crisps and they were glorious! This place is worth the trip when their honeycrisp apples are in season! The perfect way to spend an afternoon with your family!
