If you're in MontCo, there's always Cheltenham Avenue and Elkins/Melrose Park. If you're in Philly, there's Chinatown. But the white bread, socks-and-sandals crowd of Bucks County relies on this Korean grocery chain as a rare source of flavor in a mayonnaise-flavored desert. Okay, that's probably unfair, but it's really life-changing to have a place like this 15 minutes from my house. H-Mart is a Korean chain, but carries Japanese, Chinese, and Filipino products as well. Their produce is cheap (They *actually* know how to sell starfruit at a reasonable price here), and their meat selection is great, That being said, this particular location is a bit small for an H-Mart. There's no fish balls, there isn't a lot of hot food, and there isn't a bakery (most places will either have a separate Tous Les Jours or Paris Baguette location). But compared to anything else in Bucks County, it's special. In sum, H Mart is the best of what Bucks has to offer. I go here often, and recommend everybody do the same. read more

They will give you a terrible attitude, grumpy unwilling face and even refuse doing bagging for you if you do not speak Korean. I cannot adequately express how much I love H Mart. Shopping here has cut our grocery costs in AT LEAST half, if not more. I never spend over $40 on a week's groceries. EVER. The produce is fresh and cheap cheap cheap. Of course you have to paw through things, but you really always do. Some of the squashes come on styrofoam trays and are shrink-wrapped, which I wish they wouldn't do not only because of the styrofoam but because shrink-wrapping retains moisture and makes the stuff get moldy. Be sure to unwrap your things before you put them in the fridge. H Mart also stocks a huge variety of frozen dumplings, noodles, tofu, rice cakes, kimchi, and other Asian foods. It's just fabulous, and I really can't say enough positive about it. The cashiers are friendly and fast, and although it's sometimes busy in there I've never had to wait very long to check out. Be aware that the produce section is a little cramped and so you might have to wait a few moments for the person ahead of you in the aisle, but people are usually very considerate of one another. read more

After moving from the city out to the suburbs, making an hour trip to do a run at First Oriental was getting to be a pain, so we were very excited to find out there was an H mart nearby. The selection here was great! My wife is Taiwanese (not Korean) yet all of the items she typically heads downtown for were available at H mart; leeks, dumpling paper, meats for hot pot, our favorite brand of rice, etc. Was also impressive how much of our typical American food items we found here as well. It could likely take the place even of our standard grocery store run as well. Inside was exceptionally clean, and the store was very well staffed. If you are looking for somewhere to get unique ingredients to imbue your meal with the signature authentic flavor of virtually any traditional Asian recipe, H Mart almost definitely has it in stock. That's how I found this place. I needed some ingredients. Impeccably clean, full shelves of unimaginable variety, friendly and helpful staff, and all very reasonably priced. It's a full grocery store with produce, seafood, meat, deli, and general merchandise, its just mostly Asian brands with a sprinkling of GOYA and some staples in the dairy aisle. They have kitchen gadgets galore! Teas sets, rice makers, knives, utensils, etc. There were some interesting animal parts in the meat department (like pork bung and sheep's tongue), and the seafood looked and smelled pretty fresh- lots of whole fish to choose from. I didn't order anything at the deli, so I can't review the food there, but don't go expecting to order a hoagie and cheesesteak. If you've never been here, don't go when you are in a rush. I recommend giving yourself some time to peruse all the goodies they have here. read more

H Mart is a great grocery store for Asian cuisine. Nowhere else are you going to get the things they have here unless you drive to Assi in Edison NJ which is 2.5 hours away or Cheltenham near Philadelphia. For the people who come here for the food, I kind of laugh in your face. It's not meant to be a 4 star restaurant, it's kind of like a Korean McDonalds. Did you see the size of that kitchen and there's like 1/2 people back there cooking? If you're going to complain about the food they're making, buy your own ingredients and make it. This HMart has a good selection of fresh fruits, veggies and meats that some of the local markets don't carry...for example, tamarind, scotch bonnet peppers, hard chicken, frogs legs. I always find the staff helpful and courteous. The only issues I've found here are 1) groceries that can be easily found at any other market in the area are priced quite a bit higher than at other area markets; and 2) for the prices of the seafood I should not have to come home and finish de-scaling my fish (this consistently happens). They do gut and clean the inside of the fish well though. I haven't tried the in store hot foods. read more

I love this place! I went in knowing what I wanted and I found everything and then some. Fruits, fish, noodles you name it, they have it. I walked in and right away it's fruit and vegetables and that where I found my prepackaged sushi which I'll be having for dinner tonight. Everyone is so friendly in there and don't mind helping you at all. While I was there I saw a wide range of customers there. And I read some bullshit/ funny review on here saying if u don't speak Korean then don't go there; sorry not the case... the staff speak both languages very nicely so I'm debunking your comment. Never had the chance to visit an H Mart until today when the guys decided to go there for lunch. I didn't even know that there was a little cafe area. I thought it was strictly a Korean/Asian grocery. I ordered the bulgogi (beef and veggies w/ rice) for 6 bucks! The portion was big and came with 3 kimchee sides. Used to shop here all the time when I lived closer. Now they're a bit of a drive to get to, but I still make the trek here once every few months to pick up some things. Their selection of Japanese, Chinese and other Asian groceries is pretty fantastic. Prices are also quite reasonable so I don't feel like I'm going broke with every visit. One of the best things about the place is they have a good selection of non-normal meats, seafood and such. I see these types of foods on Food Network and such and always want to try cooking them. Thankfully, this place makes it easy to be adventurous with different foods. About the only thing I'm not fond of is the in-store take-out. Most H-Marts I go to are more Korean-oriented. I came here to get Chinese style sugar bars, and I am so glad they had them (albeit it somewhat expensive)! They have almost everything you would expect at any other H-Mart, however it is juuust a little less fresh than I expect from my H-Marts. See the shrimp with their heads still attached! See the live crabs! See the bags of dried fish! This H-Mart feels much smaller than the one in Upper Darby but it is pretty efficient. This is the only place nearby to get large bags of good frozen dumplings and shumai. It also is the best place to obtain hard-to-find produce such as jicama, raw lima and fava beans and okra. If you need Vietnamese rice paper for making rolls at home or edible kimchi or good fried tofu, this is THE place to go. The Japanese and Asian candy aisle is a work of art. I just wish there was an express checkout line for those of us with less than 10 items. There is an Italian Peoples Bakery and a Vietnamese restaurant next door and a Mexican restaurant across the street. read more

This hmart is smaller than others that I've been to, but it still has plenty of produce and a decent fresh fish selection. The food court has great soon dubu! There are only a few tables because it is a smaller store, but I've never had a problem finding seating. They also have ready made Korean foods to take home, like kimbap and seafood pancakes. MARKET - 3.5; HOT FOOD CAFE - 1 This store has been around for years, and offers one of the best selections of Asian groceries & products in the area. They also have a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, especially the ones used in Asian recipes, as well as some fresh and frozen meats. Their best feature, in my opinion, is the fresh fish assortment, and on-the-spot service to clean, fillet and slice any which way you need. It is still the most competitively-priced fresh fish selection in the area. We recently stopped in and decided to give their in-house cooking another try: we did once before and we were not impressed. Now, their hot-food selections have expanded, so I picked a Korean seafood soup, which looked quite appealing on the picture, with clear broth, green veggies & carrots, and clams and octopus on top of a small mound of noodles; and my husband chose bibimbap. We paid and were told it will take 10 min. Instead of waiting at the tables, we decided to do take care of our short shopping list. We returned 15 minutes later, and our orders weren't even started, even though people who clearly came after us were already served. About 10 minutes later, my husband got his bibimbap dish, served in a stainless steel bowl (?), but properly accompanied by an array of kimchi vegetables and a small bowl of rice. Another few minutes, and my soup was ready: it looked so incredibly unappealing, that my face involuntarily grimaced as I picked up the hot bowl. It was a chalky-looking, murky broth, with remnants of egg-whites floating in the liquid, bits of scallions sticking out, and white noodles barely visible under the cloudy surface. The taste was just as bland and unappealing as the appearance of the dish. I added some hot sauce, and decided to brave it: after digging around the noodles, I fished out {ha ha} a shrimp, which was overcooked, and a sliver of an octopus tentacle - which was awfully chewy and impossible to masticate. I had a bit of noodles, devoid of any taste or flavor, and finally gave up: the $8+ paid for this concoction was an absolute waste of money. I returned the dish and told one of the cooks it was awful: she just gave me an impassive glance and removed the bowl. When my husband finished his food, he also stopped by the counter to share his thoughts: at least the Asian cook had the decency to refund the money. But we will not take any more chances of eating at this spot. read more

Located in the shopping center at the corner of Bristol-Oxford Valley Road and Woodbourne Road in Levittown, the H Mart is a hidden gem. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this is an Asian grocery store (Chinese, Japanese, and Korean). It is very small inside, but the tiny store is packed from one end to the other with reasonably-priced Asian food products. They have sushi (pre-made) and all of the tools necessary to make your own sushi (sashimi grade fish, seaweed wraps, sushi rice, mirin, fish eggs, sesame seeds, avacadoes, cucumber, etc). They have a fresh produce section with American and Asian vegetables and fruits (I'm especially happy that they regularly carry rhubarb). They also have quality seafood, Asian cereals, ice cream, edamame, gyoza, shumai, and the like. I'm a big fan of the canned mango juice, as well. They also have some cooking utensils and sushi rollers. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to make an Asian recipe using the correct ingredients or to anyone who just wants to try something new. I just wish I had the time and money to shop here more often, and my only complaint is that it is a bit difficult to squeeze down the aisles sometimes because the aisles are small, they often have things on the floor in them, and two people with a cart heading in opposite directions down the same aisle will have difficulty getting past one another. The friendly staff makes the tight space enjoyable, however. So come with a pleasant attitude, and you'll really enjoy this place. read more

This is my go to store for fish, seafood and other meats you cannot find in a regular supermarket.

This isn't Assi but it has a decent selection of Asian grocery items and Korean side dishes. The pickled daikon is a bit too salty and tart for my taste (I like the sweeter Vietnamese version more), but the kimchi is pretty good. It's a very inexpensive option for a quick lunch, too. My futomaki roll was only $5 and they also have stir-fried vermicelli for the same price. While the quality is just okay, the portions are very generous and the prices unbeatable. There is a good variety of glutinous rice-based desserts and bakery sweet rolls, too. Try the red bean-stuffed mochi: microwave them for 15-25 sec and enjoy! They will be soft, warm, and perfectly chewy. I have had them as my lunch before and they are surprisingly filling. The seafood and meat departmenta are not nearly as amazing as Assi's, but they do have the essentials at inexpensive prices. If you live or work in the area, give them a try. There is enough variety so that you can try something different just about every day. read more

Has all of the basic korean foods but once in a while there are some products that are not available here which I can then find in the Cheltenham Hmart or Gobawoo. It's always cold here so be warned! There is a small korean cafe in the corner of the store which has very delicious food! I think I've had just about everything on the menu. I actually worked here for a while so I know it quite well. The employees have changed a lot in the past couple of years but most of them are very nice. Much nicer than some of the employees at the Cheltenham branch, which have more attitude. They have weekly sales so be sure to check outside on the window where they put up a big poster or in the korean newspaper or online or instore - they usually put up little "SALE" signs on the weekly sale items. BUT you have to be careful because sometimes they put regular non-sale item prices on the "SALE" paper just because.. not to try to fool you, but just because its more convenient for them. I always buy my produce here because a lot of the produce is cheaper than other grocery stores in the area. Also, the 12-pack can sodas are usually much cheaper as well! I LOVE isle 3 - the candy/snack isle! hehe I recommend trying "Binch"! They are my favorite!!! read more

It gets one star. And there is a good reason why. I go to Hmart all the time for my green tea. My girlfriend and I were in the mood for shrimp. We thought it would be good for dinner one night. We saw the packets of shrimp at the end of the meat section. Remind you, it was the packets of shrimp not the shrimp in the seafood section where they sell the day's catch by the fish monger who stands by the fresh fish and fresh shrimp. Not those shrimp by him. So, we figured since the shrimp was fairly frozen (not frozen shrimp in the bag but packets) we thought they would keep. The next day I decide to make the shrimp with pasta. I open the shrimp and immediately the stench of rotten ammoniated fish almost decimated my nostrils. I mean, I never smelled shrimp that bad. It was heart wrenching to know that they would sell something that could send someone to the hospital for food poisoning. No we did not eat it. I flushed them down the toilet. I had to. The stench was so bad it smelled up my apartment. There was no way it was staying in the garbage bin. Be warned. Do not buy their shrimp in the packets. read more

I have three daughters who love their seafood. You can't be price for fresh cherrystone clams and shrimp. Prices for are very good and consistent. Duck Is always fresh. They also have a massive stock in Japanese curries and snacks which makes my child-at-heart side oh so very happy. This H-mart is relatively small compared to the others I've been too, however, they do have a ton of stuff. This was my first time at the Levittown store! Coming from Jackson NJ I followed the directions and got lost! To many streets with the same name! Very confusing neighborhood! But when I finally found it...I was happy! The place is nice and basic...smaller then the store in Upper Darby, but still I found what I needed and with help from the stock guys! I had packaging pictures on my cell phone! And they were able to identify the pictures and help me find them! Horrible horrible customer service. Couldn't locate an ingredient went to customer service desk, the man literally hushed me away, dismissed me and pointed me to cashier who had line. He wouldn't even let me utter anything out. My jaw dropped if I didn't need the ingredient for a meal and could get it elsewhere i would of walked out. I love this place for shopping, but that's it. I am a huge fan of Korean food, and when me and my girlfriend went to the front restaurant to buy some, it was quite delicious. That was until I found a huge caterpillar in my food. I almost threw up on my plate. I brought the dish to the cook. She looked at it, poked it with a chopstick, threw the caterpillar in the trash, then handed me back the plate. There was no use my stomach was already in my throat. we were up in PA for a soccer tournament over columbus day weekend. i can't believe they have one up here and not down where we are :( man! why can't all HMarts be as friendly as this one. --- okay so this is only the second one i've been to, but the other one in annandale is filled with rude workers.
