If you want the assholes at Austin Express Towing to tow your car and charge you $193 to get your…read morecar out you should stay here. Obviously there is an issue with running a "youth hostel" out of a duplex which is only assigned 2 parking spots with a vulture towing company preying on clueless guests!! What a disaster, honestly. A $50/night stay ended up being a $250/night stay! And meeting someone at a coffee shop without first disclosing the location of the "hostel" has red flags written all over it. The address is actually 4800 Southway Drive, NOT 1008 Waller St, Austin, TX 78702. Connor greets you at a coffee shop on South 1st and escorts you over to the shady apartment complex! He essentially runs a business out of a rented apartment. A week after he realized I wrote this review he kept harassing my boy friend to tell me to take it down. When my boy friend asked him to send us a check for $200 for the towing fee and I would take it down Connor stopped harassing him.

When I would ask him questions he was very vague and irritable. The other guest there were more helpful showing me where I would sleep, gave me a tour and showed me where the towels and blankets were. If you are a young attractive female, watch out, he gives creepo vibes for sure. He can be very controlling and overbearing when it comes to socializing making things very uncomfortable. There were several occasions when he was very judgmental and disrespectful to other guest. Because he runs this hostel out of his home it seems like he expects the whole world to revolve around him. Very unprofessional and rude. There was a situation were the toilet backed up and I asked him if he had a plunger. He said no and that I was stressing him out and why did I back up the toilet? and what was wrong with me. Also, the last straw was when he told me I had to move out of the room I was already in and move into the mens dorm. I told him I was uncomfortable with that so he told me to move my stuff in the closet and wait in till something comes up. I told him I was tired and wanted to relax so I asked if I could hangout in one of the private rooms for a couple hours while I waited. He told me to quite back talking him and that I was being unreasonable and crazy. I figured this is time for me to get out. I packed up my stuff and left. I tried to get my refund back but he only gave me half. Please dont stay here if you want to lose your sanity. The guy is a crazy and delusional.

I arrived at the Austin Greyhound station late one Monday night, called some guy named Connor to…read morecome pick me up. Fifteen, or so, minutes later, he rolls up in an 80's tan, striped, Dodge Ram van. Already, Austin was living up to expectation. I had no idea where we were headed, I just knew I was along for the ride as he conducted an informal meet-and-great driving along I-35. Having traveled some distance to Austin, it was great to have such a comfortable place to shower and crash. The follow morning, I awoke to an omelet and freshly brewed coffee. The following evening, everyone at the house piled into the Ram and Connor took us out for a night on the town, featuring donut burgers, blues music, two-step dancing, and half-priced Texas beer. Over the next two weeks, I enjoyed impromptu barbeques, bonfires, and living room concerts, and met a rotation of interesting people: a young man working his way across the States selling children's books door-to-door, a culinary queen from upstate Wisconsin, a friendly cab driver visiting from Long Island, a lighthearted deckhand on leave, a Dutch mother-daughter team enjoying a Texas-style holiday, and the British people... who charmed us all! The hostel is in a great location. There are coffee shops, co-ops and natural food markets, bookstores, bike shops, convinces stores, and local restaurants all within walking distance, and it's a short bus ride to get downtown. Best of all is the FREE, warm, spring-fed neighborhood pool nearby. Uber Sleeper Hostel & Breakfast is the epitome of what a hostel should be! If you are looking for a laid-back spot from which to discover Austin, share good meals and good times with open-minded people, and experience true Texas independence and hospitality, whether your stay is long, or short, then this alternative lodging community is the place to be. Thanks Connor, for creating good times and friendly communion, for all the creative encouragement and inspiration, and for a memorable stay!

Stay and die or leave and live. It's that simple this place should be shut down. I called and…read morespoke with the manager of the place and he told me all about the rooms, rules and of course different houses they have. I arrived later on that night and I was shocked, but I'm not judgemental so I looked for a place to park, which was very difficult since its on the street parking and then I walked to the front door and just walked in no one there to greet you or even speak to you. After walking all over the house I went to the backyard and they were having a concert in the back. The manager greeted me and walked me over to the other house where he had rooms. This is where it got scary there were men everywhere sitting on the couch in the kitchen and they looking really desperate for a woman. This hostel was the dirtiest one I have ever seen. The floors, walls, furniture, refrigerator, kitchen were filthy. The beds looked like they were there when they moved in. I did not stick around for the any surprises I just left.

"i already spent that s**t", says ray. none of his tenants got a dollar back from him. i could go on and on, but trust me when i say this place is a scam and ray is a joke. Please don't even consider this as a last option.

My boyfriend and I booked a private room for a week here, we couldn't wait to leave by the time we…read moredid. The first thing that raised annoyance was the extra $5 we were charged for pick up from downtown. Even on the website it says $5, when I spoke to Connor before we left for the trip we reiterated $5 but on the day before he told me $10. Not wanting to argue over $5 for the sake of peace in the new place we were staying we let this slide. The only description correct about this house is that it's located literally beside the highway, we expected to be surrounded by nature trails and places we could bike and hike. Upon introduction to the home Connor pointed out all the things near to us. Nothing really close unless you're happy to walk ab 20 minutes. Nature trails... forget it. It's at least a ten minute drive. We were aware of other guests arrival on the weekend and discovered all the other rooms had been booked out, we guess he hadn't saved a room for himself because he put us in the awkward position of asking if we wanted people in our private room. We did not. As it turned out his partner was visiting and we think there lack of space may have shifted his mood toward us as we were due to be the longest staying. The doors are all locked with a code, but this didn't stop our host from violating our privacy and on several occasions we noticed he had been in our room while we weren't there. We really just wanted some privacy so we could enjoy time together but we felt like we were annoying him in his own home so we'd leave for as long as we could without being exhausted. One day we did try to relax but the internet stopped working, only once he went to "run an errand" was it connecting again (bill troubles or just general lack of awareness and organisation?). The public spaces didn't feel shareable. The breakfast nook was covered in ants every single morning. We found cockroaches in our room on several occasions, the air conditioning duct is left exposed. The bedding isn't the best, we struggled to stay warm and covered by the blankets. We are smokers, we enjoyed sitting outside for longer periods of time and we did enjoy a few puffs with Conor but on the whole it just felt uncomfortable. I just feel if you're offering your private space in this manner to have somewhere for himself. On our last night my boyfriend went out into the living room to find him naked barely covered by a towel. He played music loudly at his own discretion yet barked at my boyfriend when he played music shaving in the bathroom. Granted it was late but I couldn't hear the music what awoke me was Connor yelling. It really felt like he didn't want people in his home, or like he did but only if you gave him tons of your time. We felt obligated to make lots of chat when we were exhausted and just wanted to be left alone. In the end we didn't even take him up on his offer of a ride to he airport. We couldn't bear it so we paid for an uber (although i suspect he would have tried to get us to pay him something had we not). All in all I wouldn't describe this place as a quaint bed and breakfast. I would describe it as a lonely mans eclectic cheaply furnished and decorated home located on a highway in Deep South austin. I wouldn't recommend this place for anyone looking to have any romantic getaways.

This hotel isn't exactly quiet. There's a DJ that shows up some weekdays, in the evening, the music bumps into the night. Don't come here for peace and quiet. There's a Michelin-mentioned restaurant on the premises. They gave us a daily allotment to spend at the restaurant. The room had a comfortable mattress, a strange bathroom setup that was missing a ceiling in the bathroom, so the shower opened up to the bedroom. Eh, it worked. The place felt safe and secure. There are locking gates to get into the premises, but the one by the pool was broken. The lobby doubled as a weird Austin t-shirt shop. Meowdy! The staff was nice. The maids came and cleaned every day. The place was kept up and nice. I'd love to return!

I loved that the avocado toast had salsa verde on it, it really brought the dish together and made it perfect for Austin.
