Came here for one of the private karaoke rooms and had a good time. One of my friends organized a big karaoke party in their VIP room, which was massive and was more than enough to fit the ~20 of us that were there. You have to go up to the front of the room and use the big screen to order a song. I didn't look closely at the selection but at least I was able to find all the English songs I was looking for. We ordered some soju cocktails to share. The peach and yogurt were both tasty. On my way to the bathroom, I walked around the back of the restaurant and was impressed by how many private karaoke rooms they had available, in all sizes. Would recommend this place looking to anyone looking for a private karaoke experience in San Diego!

I hadn't been back to HIVE for several years when I had visited with different groups on multiple occasions. Because of its internal corner location in a plaza within the Convoy District, the business was not highly visible from the street. The parking lot can be very congested during peak meal hours as there are several neighboring restaurants. I recently came in the mid-afternoon on a weekend when there were no other customers. One thing this place has going for it was space. The suite was cavernous which can actually be disadvantageous if you want to hold a conversation because of the ambient noise at night. At one point, there was an arcade to supplement the entertainment options. Regarding the karaoke, the number of available rooms was impressive. It's most likely one of the largest setups in the SD area. Some of the extra square footage has been converted to an adjacent Korean eatery that shares the same kitchen. The offerings have evolved over the years with a rice chicken vendor operating the food services for a while. From the one-page menu, I selected the Gyoza and a six-piece order of Honey Garlic Wings. The gyoza was served as five fried beef dumplings with a vinegar-based dipping sauce. The dumplings were crunchy with a decent amount of filling. The wings had a heavy coating of batter. The honey garlic sauce was applied inconsistently as the intensity of the flavor varied between the pieces. I felt bad for the bartender who served me because he looked bored without anyone else at the bar. It made me wonder if the management should consider opening HIVE no earlier than 5 pm. My latest visit was at a three star level.

Finally got to check out Hive for the first time and had so much fun! I feel like sometimes the karaoke system is kind of difficult when it comes to queueing up song, but this was SUPER easy. There's a separate tablet for both ordering food and for songs. It was only the 4 of us, so we were in one of their smaller rooms and honestly it was the perfect size it felt like we had a potluck bc of all the food we ordered but the wings were def our fav!!!! SO GOOD, tried basically all flavors

Wow, the ambience of this place is spacious and stellar! Walking in, I'm immediately impressed by the classy and modern decor. It's charming, cool, and relaxing. A good friend came to town and after dining at Paik's Noodle, we decided to pay a visit for some refreshing drinks. Here are the main things that I like about this karaoke/bar based on my experience: (A). This spot provides a good space to relax and unwind from a long working day or week because of its clean, modern, and spacious ambience. The women's restrooms are cleaned. This reveals a lot about cleanliness and how well-maintained a business operates. (B). Service is great. Our drinks were ready in less than 5 minutes. (C). They have a variety of drinks and food to explore and enjoy. I ordered a non-alcoholic drink for only $7. It was refreshing and perfect for those who like a light drink. Don't let the overall Yelp reviews rating deter you from coming to this spot. You can come for the food and drinks, not only for the karaoke if you like. If you're looking for a spot for any occasions, this place is it! Check out their Instagram page for additional information and any special events.

When you first walk in, there's a bar for ordering drinks or food. The karaoke rooms are behind the bar, and they reach have their own style of room (ours was cowboy themed). The rooms were huge, we definitely could fit like 20 people in the room. The food was really good! Expensive, but tasted great. We ordered the fries and beef japchae. The service was prompt and friendly, we could either order at the bar and they would take it to the room we were in, or order on the little tablet in the room.

So we went today for a friends birthday... one thing I was not aware of is the " gratuity charge" we got the silver package which was $280 but totaled to 320.00 with a $50 gratuity charge, staff did help but not as much for a $50 gratuity charge plus tax, we got our drinks sang our karaoke sang and got 1 refile, so just be aware of the extra charges they be putting I will not be going again, round one has better prices and friendly charge "hidden fees"

Ray's the man... I sort of was confused by the entry of the establishment. But all my confusion subsided once I was greeted by the warmth of Ray. He was welcoming, friendly, and patient. As well as thorough in how the karaoke rooms worked. This was my first time and each time forward I want my experience like the one I received from Ray. The karaoke room was fantastic. Food and drinks were delieved to the room. Everyone in my party enjoyed the food, drinks, and singing our hearts out!

We came by to possibly book a reservation for a karaoke and golf party. I have participated in parties here 4 times and I was surprised that they no longer have golf. They let us walk through the rooms that were not occupied. In the larger rooms the seats were torn up. I suppose with the lights dimmed and disco lighting on you can't really tell. They took the deco off the wall and I asked the server if they are ready to shut down but he said he believes they were in the midst of renovating the place. We ordered Fried Chicken Wings and Beer. We enjoyed the wings which came super hot and moist. I didn't care for the sauce but I didn't select it and glad it came separately. I took the leftover wings and had hot chili honey at home and YUM! I ordered a Passion Fruit Mule and it was okay. My friend did end up booking a party with karaoke in their largest room so stay tuned for that experience. The wings and service was good. The ambiance was lacking but the price of karaoke is reasonable. Hopefully they are in the midst of renovation.

Needed to organize a small event, and here was my experience. AMBIANCE: Parking: Convoy is pretty tough for parking there is a parking lot, street parking, and parking in the back. Sounds like a lot but it can also get packed quickly. Seating: Inside seating with options of bar seating and group seating. It's pretty big, and could host corporate events or other special events, like about 100 people. Vibes: Helloooo Convoy! Plenty of eateries and other things to do. This place is in a pretty active plaza with eateries and other activities. The spot itself is pretty spacious for plenty of things, watching a game, DJ set, or karaoke. They have individual karaoke rooms and also golfing screens. Great social place in general! FOOD: Traditional Chicken (Recommend) Gotta love rice flour - fluffy, light, not as oily and crunchy. A solid and safe choice if you want your chicken. Salt and Vinegar (Recommend) A mild amount of salt and vinegar. A promising fresh and crunchiness bite from the wings and batter with minimal sour and tart flavors. French Fries (Recommend) Solid! Nothing too special but you're a good comforting crunchy choice. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Theo was great! Friendly and helpful in setting up the table, delivering the food, and checking up on us. TL; DR OVERALL: 4.5 Stars. Fantastic! We had a great time. The selections were great, the food was delicious and the prices were reasonable. They gave us some flexibility on the music which was pretty cool. I look forward to other opportunities to have events here such as hosting a karaoke session! #SupportAPIOwnedBusinesses TIPS: * Check out their website and social media for daily events.

Is this place going to be closed and is it going to be coco ichibanya?? trying to make reservations for september but can't.

    Hello Julie, We are open!…

Do they use the Karafun catalogue or something different?

Hello Karina, Thank you for your question.…

Do they have kid friendly options for music/songs?

Are our own food and drinks allowed?

Are the karaoke rooms open during COVID?

    Yes, they take reservations online.

Does anybody know if they're open? Automated response says they reopened September 1st from 4:30-10:30 pm Mon-Sat, but nobody has been answering calls during business hours.

Yes they are open. Karaoke rooms in the back are also available. I called to book mine.

    How much is karaoke?

I got a small room for $40/hr. It can prob fit 5-6 people comfortably.

    Is it 21+?

No it is not 21 and up

Just wondering, Are you still open?

    Yes still open

    What is the age requirement?

Minors or those under 21 (except 10 and under) do not require a chaperone to use the karaoke rooms before 9:30 PM.

How many people can fit in the biggest karaoke room?

Their biggest karaoke room can definitely fit at least 50. They rage from medium to smaller rooms. They also opened up a speakeasy restaurant that's also there called, Pocha.

Are kids allowed, 12y.o and under?

    It's a bar.

Does anyone know if Hive has updated their song selection within the past year? As of Halloween 2017 they hadn't updated in over a year.

    Yes

    What is the music selection?

It's a good mix of old and new mainstream hits, but also with some Korean, Tagalog, etc. songs as well. Don't be surprised if you can't find your signature karaoke song but they have a great selection!

Is this kid friendly during the day and dinner time?

    How's the karaoke?

The karaoke was great. The rooms were pretty big, but it probably just depends on how many people go and that determines the size room you get. But it's pretty great and I'd go back again. They provide two microphone and the remote (the thing you…

What time does the AYCE Lunch special start/end?

    Lunch $9.99 11am-5pm dinner $14.99 5p-9pm

    Have any gluten free options?

Yeah. Oysters $1 each for happy hour. check out the menu https://www.hivesd.com/food-menu/

You are not allowed to watch on the big screen on the floor if you have a karaoke reservation, and you should stay in that karaoke room? This what your security guy said (who are wearing black suit)

If it's for an event fight that is being charged for and karaoke people don't pay that charge to watch that event it totally makes sense

I heard there's a cover charge? Is this true?

HIVE has cover charges during special events such as but not limited to, Special DJs, UFC PPV Fights, any PPV Broadcast events.

My only complaint was that we didn't get to sit in the disco room--it looked so fun and was definitely one of the coolest parts of the restaurant. We skipped the cocktail menu and ordered pornstar martinis instead, and they were incredible. The passionfruit tasted fresh and natural, not overly sweet or artificial. For food, we shared the mozzarella sticks with caviar crème fraîche ($23), which came with a surprisingly generous portion of caviar. We also ordered the Caesar salad, which was a great size for sharing, and the Starlight Burger with a Wagyu patty and fries. Everything was delicious and exceeded our expectations. The service was just as impressive. Our server was attentive without being overbearing and checked in frequently to make sure we had everything we needed. Parking is a nightmare good luck finding parking within a mile of the restaurant. Pros: atmosphere, drinks, service Cons: food wasn't great for the price, restaurant was small and crowded, no parking Service: All of our servers were friendly and very accommodating. Gave us some knowledge on the menu and recommended cocktails based on our preference. I had spilled my drink and they were quick to make me another one. Food: I had intended to get the prime ribeye cap steak but they ran out for the night around 8pm. I shared the steak sampler which came with four different cuts of steak and 4 sauces. I ordered medium and it was cooked medium/medium rare which was fine with me, it also had a good sear, almost burnt though. Out of the four steaks, we only liked two based off flavor and tenderness. The other two were more tough and gamey. None of the sauces really stood out but the bordelaise and horseradish were good. For our sides we got fries, roasted broccoli, and the grilled wedge salad. Fries were average. The roasted broccoli had really good flavor, I expected the broccoli to be al dente but it was cooked to mush and drenched in sauce. The grilled wedge salad was decent, there was a slightly bitter taste to it. I know it says grilled wedge but the experience of biting into the salad and it being both hot and cold was not pleasant. Cocktails: I tried the Honey Ryder and New Wave. These were recommended as the more fruity/sweet cocktails. You can definitely taste the alcohol but it's only 2oz so it's not too strong. Ambience: 10/10 I got seated downstairs by the bar. Only thing about downstairs is that it's too dark to take photos unless you use flash. Overall, I agree with the other reviews saying to go just for drinks and appetizers. I would go again just to sit upstairs and get drinks and take pictures. We left unsatisfied and ended up getting in-n-out after.

If you're not a regular, be careful, because apparently all it takes is one drunk friend of the staff making up a story to get you kicked out. While visiting San Diego with friends, we came here after hearing so many great things. There was a short wait, which was fine. The four of us were seated at a small standing table, also fine. Behind us were two guys drinking at the standing bar. One of them bumped into my friend and then stroked her arm while apologizing. She was visibly uncomfortable, so I told her to switch places with me. The guy immediately said, "We're gay, so you don't have to worry," then turned to his friend and said, "Now he looks so stupid and embarrassing." I told him, "I don't think it's embarrassing to make sure your friends are comfortable," then turned back around. I didn't argue with him, insult him, or continue the conversation. I thought that was the end of it. A few minutes later, the manager came over and told us we had made comments that made other patrons uncomfortable and asked us to leave. We had already paid for our drinks and were still waiting for them. My friend followed the manager to ask what was going on, and I joined shortly after. The person complaining was, of course, the same guy who had bumped into her. He was clearly drunk and started rambling about how we had made homophobic comments toward him and his friend. This was especially ridiculous considering the friend I switched places with was there with her girlfriend. We calmly explained exactly what happened. The manager did not care. There was no real attempt to hear our side, ask questions, or figure out what actually happened. The decision had clearly already been made. While we were speaking to the manager, the guy who complained was cheerfully talking with one of the bartenders, receiving a to-go meal, and greeting them cheek to cheek. He very obviously appeared to know the staff. So that seems to be how things work here: a drunk regular or friend of the staff can make up whatever story he wants, and management will throw out an entire group of paying customers without even pretending to investigate. They refunded the drinks, which was the bare minimum. The ambience was nice, but that means absolutely nothing when the staff handles customers this poorly. Awful management, blatant favoritism, and easily the worst service I have ever experienced. I would never come back, and I would strongly warn anyone who isn't already friends with the staff to stay away.

This one is long overdue--not that they need my review, because by now everyone already knows how amazing this place is. What keeps me coming back is the combination of great music, an energetic vibe, outstanding service, and some of the most creative cocktails you'll find anywhere. Tonight was girls' night out, so we decided to order the prettier, and sweeter cocktails. But don't let the sweet flavors fool you--they are definitely generous with the alcohol. These drinks may taste dangerously easy to sip, but they pack a punch! I don't even remember the names of the cocktails we ordered, but honestly, that doesn't matter because the menu changes so often. And that's one of the things I love most about Music Bar. Every visit brings something new, fresh, and exciting to try. Both of my drinks were absolutely delicious, with the perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors. I honestly don't know how the bartenders come up with these combinations, but kudos to the team for constantly pushing their creativity while still making every cocktail incredibly well balanced. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a regular, Music Bar never disappoints. I'll definitely keep coming back to see what new creations they come up with next. Cheers to one of my favorite cocktail spots in San Diego!

Speakers and vinyls line the walls. Vibes are more elevated here than at your usual bar. I ordered the Nickel Fortune, which came out with a fun tarot card. It was a savory drink with a nice lingering of sesame oil after each sip. Seating is pretty limited inside, so reservations are recommended. CMB's website states that "cocktail attire is celebrated."

Definitely make a reservation in advance through OpenTable because they fill up pretty quickly. There is also a deposit required, which you can lose if you no-show or cancel within 24 hours, but the deposit is refunded once you arrive for your reservation. When you arrive, a hostess greets you at the entrance. There's a small waiting area where you can sit until they come get you. Then there's a door where you press a button, and it opens to bring you into the restaurant/bar. Inside, there's a mix of tables and bar seating, and they serve food in addition to having an extensive cocktail menu. The drink menu was definitely the highlight for me. There were so many creative and unique cocktails that really stood out. I'm usually not a huge cocktail person because I don't like overly sweet drinks, and it can be surprisingly difficult to find cocktails that are both original and sophisticated enough to actually sip and enjoy. They definitely nailed that here. I tried several: *Kasato Maru: This was so smooth and absolutely delicious. By far my favorite. You could really pick up the St. Germain elderflower and pear, and the flavors worked beautifully together. Definitely one of my favorites. *Sunomono: This was more liquor-forward, but still incredibly smooth. Definitely a good choice if you want something that lets the spirits shine. *Je Ju: Unfortunately, this one wasn't for me. It had a really unusual flavor that just didn't work with my palate, and my friend wasn't a fan either. I'm usually not one to send a drink back, but the staff was fantastic about it. They happily took it back and made me a completely different cocktail. *Softly Spoken: My friend ordered this one, and it came in a glass filled with small ice cubes. I tried it and thought it was really good, but it wasn't quite my personal preference. It definitely had more of a fruity flavor profile. The food looked absolutely amazing although we didn't eat here this time. There are still so many cocktails on the menu that I want to try so I'll definitely need to come back. The atmosphere is dimly lit, intimate, and full of character. It has that cool, moody feel that makes you want to sit back, sip a cocktail, and stay awhile. And the service was phenomenal from start to finish. Overall, this was such a fun experience. Great atmosphere, creative cocktails, excellent service, and plenty more on the menu I still want to try. I can't wait to come back!

Most recently we were there for an event and as always, they were nothing short of exceptional! The drinks are always fantastic but what really elevates this place is the staff. During our most recent visit, Lamar really went above and beyond to ensure our group was able to all be together for an event. Staff was also not very attentive to guests' needs, rather just going through the motions. For instance, they noted "standing room only" and that they would eventually seat our party of two. They walked us to an exact spot on the floor to stand and view the menu in the dark (we used our phone flashlights, but it wasn't easy while carrying our belongings too), and they instructed us not to order at the bar in this colorful but dimly lit tiki lounge. We essentially ordered from staff who took our order in the middle of the floor, then we had to hold our drinks, some that came with additional shot glasses, in full hands, as we were never seated. We did find a barrel to set our drinks on later, but their process and expectations for guests was just really weird and impractical. The theme and decor of the setting was lovely, with moments of a lightning and thunder effect that made the experience more immersive. But we were not impressed by the sticky menus and sticky floor, nor the lack of service and minimal help from staff while there. We made the most of our time at False Idol regardless of their shortcomings. The bombay sling and enigma de muerte were pretty decent in quality and flavor, so it's safe to say the drinks aren't the problem here. And though we probably won't return, it was cool for a one-time experience.

I came here again last night with friends and began to check in for our reservation with the bartender (the same bartender who had let me in the last time I was here). He spent a long time inspecting my CA REAL ID before going into the back. He returned and said he can't let me in since he doesn't trust my ID. He said store policy is that they have to be able to feel the imprint on your license's signature, which even he admitted that he could, but it was too faded so he wouldn't let me in. I showed him matching credit cards, Costco membership, and CA DMV mobile drivers license, but he still refused and pleaded ignorance. He gave me my driver's license back and said I'm lucky because he normally keeps fakes (thanks for the empty threat). In reality, he knew my license was legitimate and didn't want to have the cops called on him. This place really needs to update their policies and train their staff better on how to identify legitimate IDs. I'm definitely not gong to bother coming here again and will make sure I recommend others not to come here.

Nah, it's just hidden, presumably to accommodate Fortunate Sons, which opened about a year ago after re-construction of both establishments. I'm too lazy to see if still owned by Consortium Group.
