    Palace Theater

Historic Downtown Grapevine is a gem in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Situated midway between Dallas and Fort Worth, this little area holds onto a charm of small town America that time seems to have forgotten. From the train station and the glockenspiel, to the old time theater and everywhere in between, everything takes you back just a bit. The storefronts have mostly become wineries and restaurants and gift shops, but they still maintain a aura of yesteryear. The place is truly magical at Christmas time when everyone on the street decorates for the holiday season. It is truly magical!

It was our first time at The Christmas Capital of Texas. We went on a Saturday afternoon since rain was expected that evening. I bet this place comes alive at night, but we had a blast during the day nevertheless. If you're looking for a fun and affordable holiday experience, this is your place. First off, we slowly drove through Main Street. There was paid parking, charging as high as $20. If you are patient enough, they have free public parking sprinkled all around. We were lucky to find a parking spot close to the Town Square Gazebo. I love how there are so many photo opportunities left and right. My favorite place was the Christmas Tree Farm located north of the Torian Cabin. They have sleighs and benches decked out with Christmas trees in the background - the perfect family photo setup. While you're at it, stop by Toyland close to the Christmas Tree Farm. They sure are not short of our classic toys in giant-size. For example, we ran into a huge Rubik's cube, Operation (the board game), etc. You also have to stop by the Town Square Gazebo. We hopped into the oversized sleigh for a gorgeous photo. Up and down the streets, all the store fronts were merrily decorated. My son couldn't take his eyes off all the dazzling red and green colors. It was quite busy with long lines to get coffee and candy. Families were gathered, and some wearing cute matching outfits. 100% recommend this for your holiday adventure. This is probably my last review of the year. Wishing y'all a great 2023!!!

What a charming area. Plenty of shops, hotels, parks, benches, historic spots, cool architecture, restaurants, bars, a movie theater, everything you could possibly want in a leisurely afternoon. Very walkable, plenty of on street parking, and most importantly, not a chain in sight. Most spots had water bowls for our furry friends. Highlights was an olive oil tasting shop, a Kilwins (oops, a chain), jewelry shops and so much more. Lovely!

I absolutely love downtown grapevine, but especially at Christmas time. It is family friendly. Walk around and look at the lights, take some selfies at different selfies stations set up, definitely do small business shopping. Take a break from walking and relax in one of the many wineries. There is an ice skating rink set up that you can skate or enjoy watching the skaters. There are several eateries, including a little food court inside the hall by the skate rink. The dinner/event train leaves from Grapevine. Christmas time it is the Polar Express. Often time they blow snow for the Christmas set up.

"Things will be great when you're downtown No finer place for sure, downtown Everything's waiting for you Downtown, downtown" (Petula Clark) Seriously, if you can't find something to see or do or find a place to drop in for a bite to eat or to wet your whistle in downtown Grapevine, you should put a mirror up to your mouth and see if you're still breathing. Right now I'm looking at a tourism brochure that lists out these points of interest on both sides of the street along a seven block stretch of downtown Grapevine. Check these out: 49 retail stores 18 coffee shops and bakeries 9 stops on an Urban Wine and Craft Beer Trail 32 Restaurants See what I mean, Bubba? Some of the unique places are a British gift shop, a fly-fishing shop, a wrought iron door store, an olive oil shop, a coffee and waffle shop, a chili parlor, a French restaurant, a Jewish deli, a noodle company, and an escape room. We enjoyed some shaved ice, brought a gift for my brother and a jar of pecan and amaretto preserves for us, and had lunch at a French Restaurant. Something for everyone, right?

The holidays are definitely over in The Christmas Capital of Texas. In fact, downtown is very much like a ghost town after dark. At least I can become thankful for a return to normalcy. The only thing that hasn't changed is the feeling of security while on the streets or at work. A police presence is noticeably visible at all times. Definitely a supporter of law enforcement. The shops and eateries are still worth visiting even though the holidays are over. Come check out Grapevine.

This location is known as the "Christmas Capital of Texas" and its truly the most wonderful time of the year ... to visit!!! The Christmas shopping was fun and memorable. But after the sun goes down it transforms into a magical world. The Christmas events, lights, music, shopping & dining is right out of a holiday story book. The added bonus was visitors who wore matching tshirts, pjs or hats. We were those people, lol. Super cute! We saw an older couple, dressed like Santa & Mrs. Clause, cruising back and forth down Main Street, on a motorcycle, waving at believers. Nice! This was during the 2020 pandemic. Several shops remained closed. Most restaurants had limited seating to support social distancing. The majority of people wore masks. The areas that offered events did not enforce social distancing so we opted to watch from a distance. It is my hope that we are back to normal this time next year.

Beautiful Christmas decorations in this town. Nice historical town. Great restaurant choices.

Decided to check out the Christmas capital of Texas and it did not disappoint. Each year Grapevine is transformed into a Christmas wonderland with all the goodies your heart can desire. From light displays, riding the Polar Express, and multiple shops opened for your last minute Christmas needs you are sure to enjoy yourself. Most of the shops downtown stay open later on the weekends to accommodate the crowds and there are plenty of restaurants that will cater to your food desires. The best part is that there are tons of wineries there so you can enjoy a glass of TX wine while taking in the lights. Definitely recommend checking this place out when you get a chance. Be sure to park off of Main St and try avoid driving down it at all cost as pedestrian traffic is heavy.

I absolutely love all that Grapevine does for the holidays! There is the lighting the parade the polar express complete with hot chocolate and the daily light show at the gazebo to just name a few! Tons a lights to see/ great spots to eat and local wine bars. Lots of photo ops up and down Main Street and such a wonderful way to get in the holiday spirit

Even after all of these years, downtown Grapevine is something that stays on my list when it comes to festivals. We had a lovely time at the Main Street festival! This is great for friends, family and out of town guests. If you're a fan of fair food you will find your favorites whenever they do their festivals along Main Street. All of the shops open up too so it is great for business. Even on a non festival day I recommend just coming out here, parking and then walking around. Parking is free on most days and I've enjoyed bringing friends out here during the work week so you can just explore everything. If you want to do some tastings check out Messina Hoff or any of the spots which also usually have snacks to accompany whatever you need. There's also awesome souvenir shops for Texas inspired items and holiday trinkets often on sale. I haven't browsed the food court hall yet but that is something new to downtown I will be checking out soon. You can totally make a day out of it and enjoy with people that you love!

This is a great place to visit. We stumbled into a festival on a Friday and was pleasantly surprised. Parking was challenging but luckily it was 3 in the afternoon so we were allowed in free. Visited the Beer garden that was set up with $20 for 8 2oz tastings. This wsa in May so the heat was still felt and you will want to find some indore AC areas. The Christmas pictures look great and I would love to return at that time.

Example of old school Texas architecture in Grapevine, which has many beautifully preserved, historic buildings.

To be filed under, "You know you are getting old when..." I know that I have gotten old when, on a trip to Texas for 3 days of hardcore gaming at QuakeCon, I am almost sidetracked by the history of the town hosting the event. Well, that was the case with Grapevine. Good thing I can't drink wine or I may have never been seen or heard from again! The beautifully preserved Texas architecture of the town's buildings and homes is well worth a walking tour of the downtown streets. I would be tempted to go on a guided tour, but even by myself on this last trip I was completely fascinated by the sights along with publicly available information regarding the history of the town. I was a little surprised but in a good way: Grapevine, Texas has a captivating history!

It is part of DFW's Art Program and is the work of Dennis Oppenheim, who made the piece in 2005. It is constructed of aluminum and reminds me a lot of Superman's lair, the Fortress of Solitude. The sculpture is 30 feet high and has an arched tunnel through the center with blue LED lighting overhead. Oppenheim was inspired by the natural form of crystals while creating this piece which depicts crystals of different sizes sprouting up at different angles. Travelers have been known to leave trinkets or foodstuffs in the dark recesses of the tunnel. Don't be surprised if you see half eaten candies, water bottles, rubber bands, paper airplanes, even small stuffed animals. The sculptures fabricators, Studio Six, performs regular scheduled inspections of Crystal Mountain and regular dustings mostly done from an aerial lift using a HEPA vacuum. I really like this sculpture it is one that demands your attention. You cannot miss it. Even though the Sculpture is open to the public. Its viewers are limited to ticketed passengers since it is located beyond the security check point. If you are in terminal D you ae sure to see it. But if you are at one of the other terminals, and have time, I recommend checking this spot out. Fun fact: Oppenheim has a similar piece in Cincinnati called Crystal Garden. It is made of colorful acrylic though and located outdoors.

If you are looking for a charming, "no-frills" spot for classic Italian-American comfort food, this is a very dependable option. The absolute highlight of our visit was the staff. The people here couldn't have been nicer! They were welcoming and extremely accommodating, especially when it came to customizing my order. Food: * House Salads: We started with the house salads featuring their homemade tomato vinaigrette. It was unique--it tasted like they might incorporate some of their tomato sauce into the dressing base. It was okay, though perhaps an acquired taste if you prefer a sharper vinaigrette. * Eggplant Parm & Custom Pasta: I ordered the Eggplant Parm and asked to swap the side pasta for angel hair with vodka sauce. They were happy to do it for a small upcharge. The eggplant itself was quite good! My only critique is that the sauce was very chunky (I like a smoother sauce) and the portion of it was a bit overwhelming, but that might just be a personal preference. * Fettuccine Alfredo: My husband went with the classic Alfredo. He described it as a "solid 7/10"--nothing was wrong with it at all, just a standard, reliable version of the dish that satisfied the craving. Final Thoughts Cafe Italia is a sweet little place that is a decent option if you're hungry for the classics and want to be treated like family. We're glad we finally checked it off our list!
