Denton is a pretty nice town and the college vibe it has with North Texas and TWU being here only enhances the all around culture. Nowhere more than the Denton Square do all the elements of what makes Denton Denton come together better. The square used to be the business hub of the city when it was first established in 1857. Today, the Denton Square is more entertainment oriented. There is lots of food and entertainment establishments permanently housed here, with lots of festivals that are centered around the square as well. I have attended Tree Lightings, the Day of the Dead Festival, and more here over the years. Rumor has it, that someone named me was even married on this square on the steps of the courthouse!

So many wonderful things to do for the whole family! Cartwrights is one of our favorites to eat for breakfast, and walking around to all the unique shops after . This year they did a wonderful Halloween theme and it was so much fun!

Second time is a charm, that's for sure! I was very thrilled with all the history that surrounds this beautiful quaint town. The signage on the buildings are very vintage and well preserved. The grounds are well kept and well manicured (even in dry winter conditions) the grounds look lovely. We were in town for the first time after the fire that took place and consumed the Mini Mall and their next door neighbors. Too bad because the fire destroyed a lot of their vintage signage and even today (3 days after the fire) the area still smells like burnt wires and plastic. There was a lot of restoration vehicles near the area taking care of all the mess and clean up from the fire. The weather was too frigid to walk much but I did manage to take a few pics and vid clips so I would be sharing them with you all. I highly recommend you make a trip to Denton, you can thank me later.

I never heard of this festival until my friend practically pretty much kidnapped and took me here…read more I honestly wasn't expecting much since it's located in Denton, but man was I wrong. They don't showcase as many vendors as they do at the Taste of Addison or Taste of Dallas festivals, but you're not going to get more bang for you buck. So it basically goes like this. You pay $15 bucks ($10 if you're a student) which gives you license to eat to your hearts desire. No paying additional money at the stalls! So you're basically at the biggest buffet that you've ever seen. Then you get an alcohol wrist band that give you two alcoholic beverages which range from anything to a cup of local beer to a Coronarita. There are ways to get past the two drink limit, but I'll leave that for you to figure out. There were 31 sponsors for the 2013 event, most which offered food or free swag. I pretty much stocked up on a whole new set of koozies at this event. Not being from Denton I liked the idea that I could try foods from that community. You still have your big chain restaurants like Texas Roadhouse and Hooter's, but there's was a lot of things I have never tried. If all else fails you can just keep hitting up the Texas Roadhouse booth and get their ribs. The event is held inside the coliseum where the UNT basketball teams play and the surrounding parking lots are open for you to use free of charge. Oh, you're also helping the Denton Kiwanis Club so even if you end up not liking the food at least you can feel good about yourself for helping raise funds for a great organization!

I've had this event marked on my Calendar since January. So, The Kiwanis Club of Denton is an organization that provides low-cost/no-cost medical, dental, and prescription assistance to disadvantaged children in the northern Denton County area through its Children's Clinic-- a network of dedicated local health care providers. The Clinic is supported by fundraising activities that involve the entire community in fun, service and fellowship-- This event was the 25th Annual Taste of North Texas and you pay $15 to enter the UNT Coliseum and eat as much food/drink as many drinks as you can... AND it all goes to a good Cause! Here are some Restaurants that participated in 2014-- I love seeing this list grow every year. Ben E. Keith Budweiser -- A whole section dedicated to beers & fun activities for the family. Drink responsibly :P Ben E. Cartwright's Ranch House -- Davis Purity Bakery -- Small cookies and dessert items El Guapo's -- One of my favorites of the evening-- they do a special queso with mixed beef, avocado, tomatoes at the table then pour it over their freshly made tortilla chips. ALSO there's fajitas where you can garnish with whatever toppings you want. Fire in the Hole Pizza -- I didn't get to try this tonight but tried it in 2013 and this was also one of my favorite stands with their Wood-Oven truck that's portable! Freebirds World Burrito -- A great salad bowl with delicious made-to-order toppings. Frilly's Seafood Bayou Kitchen -- BOILED CRAWFISH! CRAWFISH! and corn. AND CRAWFISH! Overall a great evening for all ages, bring the family and friends for this unique event. The prices are $15 for Adults, $10 for Students/Military/Seniors -- wish more people knew about this event. Parking is free at Fouts Field which is the huge parking lot next to the Coliseum. Happy eating/drinking/feeling good about helping out a great cause :)
