The Stockyards - Silly finds at the stockyard worth passing by

We had a fun afternoon at the Stockyards. So many shops and restaurants! You can purchase…read morebeer/wine, etc. and wander the streets. The stores are very touristy... but cool to look around in. The best part, of course, is the cattle drive. They do it twice a day at 11:30am and 4:00pm. Beautiful longhorns! You can also view them in the pens after the drive. Tip: We parked about 2 blocks away on a (shaded!) side street for free. We avoided the crowded pay parking lot.

This feels kind of like a bucket list location honestly. My friends and I spent time walking around the Stockyards area, popping into shops, window shopping at some very luxurious western wear stores, and soaking in the atmosphere. Between the cowboy boots, giant belt buckles, hats, leather goods, and rustic architecture, the entire area felt like a mix of Texas history and tourist attraction. The highlight for me, of course, was watching the famous cattle drive featuring ENORMOUS Texas longhorn cattle walking right down the middle of the street!!! It was something I had never experienced before and I found it fascinating! Yes, I do wish it lasted a little longer, but as an introduction to Texan culture and Stockyards history, it was fantastic and memorable. Standing there and watching these massive animals casually stroll through town while crowds gather to cheer and take photos - wow, just wow! Speaking of photos... yes, I sat on one of the longhorns for a picture because... when in Texas!?

I, of course, had to release my wrath with the Little Red Wasp cocktail. Ohhh it definitely had a kick to it. I had to sip it slow. My friend won the gift basket that was filled with goodies. Kendall and Austin, such a fun relaxing event. It was definitely what I needed after my long week! Thanks you Little Red Wasp for having us yelpies there. The staff were very attentive!

They were both very friendly and soothing. This lowered my WRATh a little. Once we signed in, we started talking to existing and now new friends and the WRAth is lowering down even more. We were finding that several friends had had as lovely of a day as I had had. The very attentive and friendly servers brought out our special drink "The Little Red Wasp" man this thing is spicy but I feel the WRath is getting even lower. The homemade pimento cheese and chips oh so very good. The Wrath is even lower. After having a great meal, Egg Salad Sandwich and a Breckenridge Porter, and the wrath is gone. Thank you Little Red Wasp for helping turn a very rough day into a wonderful evening. Kendell, Adam, and Austin, thank you very much for a great time. GREAT JOB AS USUAL.

I recently heard of this place and decided to go check it out. The neighborhood has several…read moreentrances but the main one you can go in is through the north part thru . They do have police directing traffic and blocking the other streets so only residents can enter through those. I went around 8pm on a weekday and there were about 30 cars waiting to go in. I was surprise it only took me about 5-9 minutes to get into the neighborhood. Once inside you just follow the crow and enjoy, a lot of the streets have a could de sac and you can just follow along. The neighborhood is a big circle so when you are done you will exit where you first came out of. It took me about another 10 minutes to get through the first set of house because there were a group of little kids at the end of the first street passing out candy canes. They were the reason why it was taking a while to get into the place but after that I was constantly moving along looking at house. The whole thing did not take me more than 30 minutes and after that I was on my way back home. Its free and the house that are decorated are nice but a lot of them are also dark and don't participate (which is fine). But if I had to choose between this and Interlocken in Arlington, i choose arlington. Thats just my person opinion but either way come on out and enjoy some lights by yourself or with the squad.

We visited again this year, and as always it was enjoyable. We try to go during the week to avoid…read moresuch big lines.

This sculpture is located in Terminal D of the Dallas International Airport. It is right out front…read moreof Starbucks and the line actually goes through it if it is long enough. It is part of DFW's Art Program and is the work of Dennis Oppenheim, who made the piece in 2005. It is constructed of aluminum and reminds me a lot of Superman's lair, the Fortress of Solitude. The sculpture is 30 feet high and has an arched tunnel through the center with blue LED lighting overhead. Oppenheim was inspired by the natural form of crystals while creating this piece which depicts crystals of different sizes sprouting up at different angles. Travelers have been known to leave trinkets or foodstuffs in the dark recesses of the tunnel. Don't be surprised if you see half eaten candies, water bottles, rubber bands, paper airplanes, even small stuffed animals. The sculptures fabricators, Studio Six, performs regular scheduled inspections of Crystal Mountain and regular dustings mostly done from an aerial lift using a HEPA vacuum. I really like this sculpture it is one that demands your attention. You cannot miss it. Even though the Sculpture is open to the public. Its viewers are limited to ticketed passengers since it is located beyond the security check point. If you are in terminal D you ae sure to see it. But if you are at one of the other terminals, and have time, I recommend checking this spot out. Fun fact: Oppenheim has a similar piece in Cincinnati called Crystal Garden. It is made of colorful acrylic though and located outdoors.
