Great local, convenient option for portable wifi if you don't want to rent wifi at Haneda or Narita. It's definitely more pricy to rent here at their Ala Moana location (~$50 for 5 days) than what the Japan-based airport firms offer (using the current favorable Yen rate of Y145.7271 per $1 US) but you have the added benefit of picking up and returning the device here on Oahu. You do have to fight the H-1/Nimitz traffic which is absent in Japan, so that element also should be considered. Definitely worth doing a cost/benefit comparison and then decide for yourself. Staff here is very helpful although I wish the hours were more expansive. Solid 3, all things considered, but the fast transaction processing and kind employees earn them a fourth star. Relocated from Don Quijote to Ala Moana Center right outside Makai Market beside the escalator which I do love as it's a bit more spacious and does offer some Japanese snacks and various merchandise, the staff here is friendly though some does give a feeling of bleh... As soon as I book my flight what you need to do immediately is reserve a WiFi device as it gets sold out very fast as is very much needed whenever you're doing a search for train routes and is amazing with unlimited data and are able to connect multiple devices. Plans go by 7, 14, 21 and 30 days for the basic though I always go with the Premium which comes insurance and external batter for just $5-$10 extra. As we come out of Covid the airport transfer I used to purchase in advance here is no longer available not by HIS but offered by the vendor in Japan so I'll decided that upon arrival but one thing that will certainly change is the JR Rail Pass which will drastically increase +70% and with the incredible yen rate I've decided to purchase the rail pass before the huge increase. You do need to bring your passport to purchase JR Rail pass and the increase will take place Oct 1st 2023 so get it in September and you're able to hold on to it for 90 before you need to redeem it in Japan. 1-22-23 Never knew about this Travel agency until I read Yelp Elite Jo's review. Looking at center stage at Ala Moana it is on the left a few doors down from Cookie Corner. 4 of us went in to purchase rail tickets: hubs, myself, Bud & his mom. We met with Daniel. He was very polite, full of knowledge and shared insights on our travel plans. We decided on the 5 day Kansai Area Pass. We purchased enough for 6. He printed out pages that we will turn in at a Japan train station. He explained the reserved seats process if we all wanted to be seated together. There were no chairs in front of his station at the back of the store so he kindly carried 2 chairs for Bud and I to sit on. It seemed like his station was where payments were taken. It was a bit of a hassle for the gentleman in front of his station to go in and out from his own desk but we kept saying gomenasai. There is one more desk at the front of the shop seated by a woman. She had several sales from walk-ins buying things like slings(bags) by guys and other items as there is a variety of merchandise for sale. You can hear English as well as Japanese being spoken. It took pretty much an hour to purchase our passes. I'm so glad I stopped at Yomie's first cuz by the time we passed again they were closing up. You can even order WiFi units to be delivered to your hotel in Japan. HIS is located in the middle of Ala Moana Shopping Center close to Center Stage and has regular Mall hours. It's location makes it very convenient to pick up your JR Rail Pass and if necessary, make other arrangements through this full service travel agency. They also sell items from Japan and items branded from Hawaii. I've been there three times in the last few months to pick up a two-week green car JR Rail Pass. With the recent decline in the Japanese Yen it makes travel to Japan much more affordable and enjoyable. The JR Rail Pass allows unlimited travel on the shinkansen, JR trains, JR buses and even ferries. Regular cars on the shinkansen have 3x2 seating but green car or business class allows 2x2 seating and a carpeted walking area allowing for a more quiet ride. On this last trip I went all the way North to Hokodate and all the way south to Kagoshima and back and forth between Hiroshima, Osaka, and Tokyo many times and it's all unlimited and included with the JR Rail Pass. Well they moved to Ala Moana Shopping Center on the ground floor near the Makai Market Food Court. So you want to go visit the land of the rising sun. The land where there is so many things to do, see and eat. Hmmmm sake and sushi, how could you go wrong?!?!?! Well let's say this is your first time or you have questions on what to do, how to get to places, etc. the people here probably can help you to see if you need to buy the rail pass, which one and so forth. You can also get a pocket wifi so you will always be connected. You will be able to access your apps like Google maps, Line to call your friends and family for free. Download and use the Transite app to see when and where the trains are running. I highly suggest getting a backup battery charger as it would be so junk to run out of juice and get lost. I had a vacation to Japan and i normally rent a pocket wifi in Japan since it's cheaper but I was flying into an airport i never had before and didn't want to deal with getting the router in Japan so I decided to reserve a pocket wifi here. The cost is almost double what I would have paid in Japan but so much more convenient to have it when you land. With the time zone difference, after landing in Japan. i just want to grab some food, go to the hotel and rest for the night, This place is located on the ground floor of Ala Moana center next to cookie corner near the center stage. I recommend making a pocket wifi reservation weeks in advance, sooner if it's a popular travel time because they do run out. Pick up, instructions for use and drop off was so easy. Kate is unprofessional and disrespectful. I signed some forms electronically, but I never received them in my email. When you use DocuSign, your email is supposed to be the point of contact. I requested a refund on the same day, and they outright refused. I am extremely dissatisfied with this company; they lack honesty and integrity. They did not deliver on the extra trips they promised, and I have been given no account information. My account details were changed twice, and my name was modified through an email without my consent. I demand a refund. I strongly advise against using this company, as they will take your money and leave you with nothing. Customer service is unprofessional and unresponsive. I canceled my service the day after signing up, which was a Friday, and I reached out via call and email the following day when I did not receive any information about the Hawaii trip or the additional trip. We've used the pocket wifi from HIS for several of our trips and it works great! The battery life is about 8 hours, so you should get an external battery so you won't be stuck without data. Reserving, picking up and returning the device was super easy and hassle free. I'd suggest you reserve it early as it looks like they do sell out since it seems like many people are going to Japan now. Just a heads up, I mistakenly thought it would work in Korea, but it didn't. I rented pocket wifi for japan trips from here before. On my most recent trip, I didn't want to go to Ala moana on the week of xmas to pick it up. The male employee referred me to his japan. It was so easy. I reserved and paid for the device online. The package was delivered to my hotel which was so convenient. They give you a prepaid envelope and you just drop it in the mailbox at the airport before u leave japan. I think I prefer this way over having to pick up and drop off in person. read more

I would've given this place a one start but because of my first time experience, I rate it two starts. We just went to the Snow Festival tour. It was our first tour and the best. Morisan and Michikosan were the best guides. Our bus driver was also the best. They took good care of everyone. Bought our 1 week JR pass and rented a WIFI device with the portable battery charger for 12 days here. No complaints except the wifi kept dying so we had to charge it in the middle of the day. This means you have to carry everything you need to charge your phone and the wifi device, and make sure that you have a backup battery anyway because the battery they give you doesn't carry a strong charge.. TIPS: MAKE RESERVATIONS early, especially if you are going during peak sakura season/spring break/etc, when everyone else is going to Japan. They only have so many in stock and they sell out quickly. I liked being able to have wifi right after I got off the plane. I also ordered a WIFI that was delivered to our hotel from Japan-wireless (another company) in Japan for my husband and that one sucked. It didn't always connect and it must have been at slower speeds, so I would recommend just getting this one here if you can. JR PASSES - you can buy the vouchers here if you are a foreigner visiting Japan. Must bring passport of EVERY person that is getting a pass (but they don't have to be present). You take these vouchers to a JR station ticket counter once you get to Japan to actually redeem and get your JR Pass. We took a Shinkansen from Kyoto to Tokyo, Tokyo to Odawara, and Odawara to Osaka, in addition to taking multiple JR lines within Tokyo so this was very useful for us to have. I came to Hawaii HIS at Don Quijote Kaheka to purchase a Japan Rail Pass for my upcoming trip in the fall. My trip was for 10 days so it was hard to decide whether to get the 7 day or 14 day pass. At first I bought the 14 day pass (which was quite expensive). I had second thoughts right on the spot as I knew there were many other options for getting around in Japan, especially in Tokyo where we would be for the first 5 days of our trip. I changed my mind and decided to get the 7 day pass instead as the JR Pass does not need to be activated right away (but by a certain date from date of purchase). Tomo was very friendly and very helpful throughout the entire process. Since I had already charged the price for the 14 day pass they had to do a refund ($25 charge) and charge the new amount for the 7 day pass. Tomo was very understanding and provided me excellent customer service when issuing, refunding, and re-issuing my JR pass vouchers. Their office is kind of small but I still had a good experience coming here and got what I needed. Parking is in the lot fronting DQ or in the structure right across the street. read more

The staff here is very polite and helpful. Picking up the WiFi is also very easy. You don't need an appointment to pick it up, just your reservation. The pocket WiFi came in a cute pouch with instructions and a battery pack which is very much needed if you plan to be out all day. Returning is also very easy. Before our trip to Japan, I had gotten lots of advice about traveling there. Main things that everyone mentioned: WiFi device and transportation or rail pass. You can get those here. I came to inquire about all the things I could possibly inquire about. All of my questions were answered and the employee even gave me his email if I needed more assistance. I decided not to order the device or rail pass from this company mainly because the hours were hard for me to work into my schedule. With pick up day starting your device charge and not being effective til you land, I would've paid for 2 days without even using it yet. All of the H.I.S. locations are in town. Its not the most convenient but its right next to Don Q so if you shop there you could easily drop by. Rather than just sell me a railpass, the nice gentleman I spoke with took the time to understand my interests & itinerary, then presented some better options than a railpass - to actually fly from Tokyo to Hiroshima instead of take the bullet train (saves times, about same price), since I'll ride the bullet train earlier in my trip using a separate, already purchased 7-day JR railpass. I rented a wifi router for 14 days, which was perfect, even though we were only in Japan for 10 days...we left on Black Friday, so I had to pick it up the day before Thanksgiving (since we were also going to hit up the Eden in Love Black Friday sale before we had to go to the airport!). I was a little scared when I picked it up, because it seemed like they couldn't find my reservation (?) at first, but they found it! The employee showed me how to use it and had me sign in to it so I'd be ready to go when we landed in Japan. It worked really well! There were no issues while we were way underground using the subways and no matter what area we were in (Tokyo Disney Resort, Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, back you Tokyo, etc), we never lost service. The battery life isn't so good, but they do give you an external battery charger with the unlimited and insurance package, which came in handy. It is just a little lipstick sized external battery charger, so I'd suggest bringing a bigger sized charger or only turning on the wifi router when you need it and when you're taking a break from all the walking you'll be doing. When I returned the wifi router, it was really fast and easy - they just made sure that I returned everything and that it wasn't damaged. Visited the Kaheka location to ask about the Wi-Fi Device rental for Thailand as they have a poster outside advertising $54 for 7 days. However, to our disappointment, they haven't quite got the program up and running yet, and have no estimated date of when it will be set up....False advertisement!! However, the customer service agent was very very apologetic and friendly :) So since Thailand was a bust, I decided to ask more questions about the rental for Japan instead. I gave them 3 stars for the Wi-Fi rental program as I feel it is inconvenient compared to what else is out there. For the basic plan, $40 -7 days, $55-14 days, $70-21 days or $80 -30 days. The premium plan covers a lost/damaged device ($300) and gives you an external extra battery ---prices are 45/65/80/90 respectively. Every single day outside these specific dates cost $7 so like your 8th day would cost additional $7 on top of $40/45 , Also, they charge you from when you pick up the device from their office to the point where you drop it off.... For international travel, nobody wants to be last minute so I'd think most people would pick it up early and get charged for the extra days they're holding on to it in Hawaii. On top of that, nobody wants to be running errands (drop off) after an international vacation as those can get pretty tiring. Japan programs allow you to have it delivered and mail it back. And depending on how many days your vacation is, the additional $7 per day could cost more than the Japan carriers out there. Probably won't be renting from them...but for those ok with the inconveniences it might be a feasible option! read more

I was able to purchase Japan Rail passes for the reserved green car here as well as rent a WiFi portable pack with additional battery for the two-week trip. All in all, it was easy to set up an appointment or walk up and compare prices. Luckily I had a credit card to charge on as they only take credit card for the JR passes. The reception and longevity of the WiFi and additional battery helped the trek through Japan and although we went to the mountains, I was still able to get reception in Arima besides the big cities. They have the best pricing on the wifi even though you do have to add more days (to pickup and drop off to the hawaii locations) which also costs more, but if you get a wifi from the airport in japan it's more than double the price you pay for. I used H.I.S recently for their Japan Wi-Fi rental services. If you book your services on their website, you are eligible for a discount ($5.00 off the router rental). The workers at their branch are all very helpful. When I went to pick up and drop off the router, the woman at the front desk explained everything to me. [VALUE] I got the 14-day premium plan which came out to $60. Everything was put in a zipper pouch which included: small portable WiFi router, USB charger, folded instruction slip, external battery pack & its USB charger. The day you pick up the WiFi AND the day you return it is factored in the X-day plan too, keep that in mind. -0.5 star because of the pocket WiFi longevity. Although the website says that the pocket WiFi battery can last up to 10 hours, mines would always last for at least 6 hours until I have to re-charge it again with the external battery charger. I always turned off the WiFi when I wasn't using it & even then it dies kind of fast. There were times I felt scared I wouldn't be able to navigate my way back home because the WiFi was dying, so I would try and find a place with free WiFi and use that instead. Each day I was in Japan, I stayed out for over 12 hours so I guess that may have been one reason. First, I want to say I work in a retail environment, and I have to deal with a range of customers every day, every shift--regardless if they are rude, ignorant, or have no manners--the last thing I expect when I go into a business as a customer is to have service be rude, condescending, belittling, while treating you like you're stupid, and not even listening to anything you have to say. Again, I want to emphasize, I know service both as a customer and in the sales position. I go into the HIS Kaheka branch to inquire about my Wifi Rental, because the Waikiki location is closed today, so I visit the Kaheka location open 7-days a week. 1) They lecture me because I am at the wrong location. I tell them Waikiki is closed today--as I said, they don't even bother to listen to what I am saying. Am I am there to inquire how to proceed with my wifi rental. 2) The woman there, after giving me a rude side-eye and not making eye contact while speaking with me, tells me in their fine print 'Tour Date' is not when I am on my trip, it is when I pick up the wifi. I will admit it is the last line of their fine print on the website. To be honest, that is my mistake, I read 'Tour Date' as the actual date of my tour (as the literal translation would be), and ironically, the way any travel website either airline or hotel rental will ask. You want to be literal, write 'PICK UP DATE'. Even my internet and travel savvy friends question, "Why can't they activate your wifi router when you're on your trip? Why do you need to pay for a wifi rounter when you aren't even on vacation yet?" 3) The man pulls out an actual calendar--a CALENDAR--laughs at me while he says my trip is longer than 7 days. My tour date? My tour/vacation is exactly 7 days. HIS tour date is 9 days, since I have to rent the wifi router an additional 2 days (9 days) for a 7 day trip, and pay for 9 days. This is what in business we could call 'working so long from one perspective, you forget not everyone sees or reads the same thing you see or read.' You are not in a position to tell your customer condescendingly how long their vacation will be, or have the audacity to count the days on a calendar. 4) I ask for a refund 3 times. Each time they tell me 'wait, wait', 'no, no' we will fix it. Done! They tell me my rental has been extended 2 days, I owe them an additional $8, and I have to pick it up at the other location (not the location I am physically standing at). Not only as a 'Japanese' company, are they rude and condescending, not helpful, and do not listen to their customer, but I did my best to just listen to what they had to say, to take their insulting wording and rude body language, and be dictated by them what is and isn't going to happen. HIS is offering the absolute worst of customer service. And to put a cherry on top? 10% SERVICE CHARGE FOR CANCELLATION! Obviously, I went home to get my refund, and take their 10% cancellation fee. They do not deserve my money, they do not deserve your money. I would rather pay twice as much somewhere else where I can get no service at all--because that's better than HIS service. I will not recommend this to my friends or my family--as a note, my friend who recommended this place to me, told me they laughed at her when she looked for wifi and said no where will have a wifi for her during her trip because it's all sold out. She also felt the need to run back to deliver the wifi the day it was due, because they will try to charge you at every opportunity they can. Very helpful, professional staff--this is called sarcasm. Bought a ticket to Japan from them 3x more than the cheapest option because I wanted a better customer service experience. What I got instead was a half assed experience that left me jaded. When purchasing my ticket, I had submitted my name wrong (missing middle name) and the following day I received an email letting me know that it was wrong and that they had not purchased my ticket. This email came on a Friday, and had vaguely said to cancel the ticket (without any particular instructions) and rebook, and that I would not be charged. I had decided to contact them on Monday for more clarification since they were closed by the time I saw their email (NO phone calls from them!). I come to find out, when I check my phone after I got off of work (not allowed to have a cell phone at work or check email), they had gone ahead and booked my ticket without my response! WTF! I called as soon as I saw the email to explain my situation, but it took about an hour talking to accusatory representatives to come to the conclusion that they will have to charge me $30 to re-book my flight with my correct name. The next day, I re-confirm some details on the new ticket they sent me, and realize that they've re-booked it for the wrong day!! At this point I'm pretty fed up with the service I've received from these guys. My flight was eventually rebooked correctly, but the amount of pain it has taken, just to get a proper flight booked was not worth it. I do not recommend booking flights with this company. Or rather, if you do, take measures to never interact with people there. You might not be able to reach them when you call because they are usually busy, but if you email them they will replay to you. Be sure to check your spam folder though. They replied to me and it was there. They were able to get me my JR pass and explained everything clearly. I recommend them. read more

Conveniently located on the 1st floor of Ala Moana Center in front of J Crew, this H.I.S. LeaLea Station kiosk was very helpful in helping me to rent a WiFi Router for my next trip to Japan. For the WiFi router rentals, they have two options to choose from - a basic plan, and premium plan. For just $5 more, the premium plan includes insurance and an external battery, while the basic plan is only the device. The cost of the premium plan is $45 -7 days, $65-14 days, $80-21 days or $90 -30 days, which also covers the cost of a lost/damaged device ($300). You pick up/return the device from this location. However, if you don't want to make a trip to Ala Moana, they also have other H.I.S. locations at Waikiki, Don Quijote Kaheka, and in downtown. Tip: if you book online on their website (https://www.hisgo.com/hi), you can get $5 off. At the time I booked my rental, they were also having a promotion at the kiosk where you could participate in a customer survey and you would also receive the $5 discount. I would suggest booking a month or 2 in advanced (especially during popular seasons) because they might run out. There is a $10 charge though if you cancel your reservation. Customer service was great and I suggest checking this kiosk out! Besides WiFi rentals, H.I.S. LeaLea also sells Japan Rail Passes and they can provide you with other information, knowledge, and discounts for your next trip. read more
