Ordered Himalayan special platter, Daal Makhani, Paneer coconut Korma, chicken tikka masala, chicken tandoori and another don't remember. Everything was Great! Started getting busier as time went on. After a week away from home while vacationing, a family of 10 East Indian folks were craving Indian food. We Googled/yelped and this place came up with good reviews. A couple of us weren't sure, but in the end we were pleasantly surprised. This met our expectations and we actually felt like we got a good home made meal. We being enjoyed the samosas, pakoras, dal makhani, aloo gobi and palak paneer. And of course the garlic naan. Would definitely come back when in this area in the future. read more

I came here because I love Indian food. I had never had Nepalese food and found out that it is similar to Indian food. This place has many options to choose from and is great if you have dietary restrictions. There were not that many customers there when we went bit don't let that decieve you. Excellent food and service. We were visiting in town to see mt Rushmore and we were craving Indian food. The samosa was fresh. Nice food. Better than I could have expected in a place with basically a non-existent Indian community to support it. The service was good. We asked for spicy food, but the waiter was skeptical, and toned it down a bit. Nonetheless, food was tasty. They used a similar sauce for the fish dish as for the chicken dish...which is the same practice that many Indian restaurants use. Overall an above average place for Indian food. read more

I was reading through comments and I think there is some confusion on why this food tastes slightly different than normal Indian, which shouldn't count against it. This restaurant is traditional Nepalese food with a mix of Indian, and is beyond phenomenal! I am native to Rapid City but I have traveled all over the country and have not found a place better than Himalayan Kitchen. The food is delicious, the service is friendly and prompt, and there is little to no wait to be seated! My family and I eat here at least twice a week (if not more). This is hands-down the best restaurant in Rapid City. I highly suggest getting the lamb samosas and goat cheese naan! read more

My husband and I live in Sioux Falls and occasionally go to Rapid City for work. This is one of the best Indian/Nepalese restaurants I've ever eaten at. I especially love the Lamb Coconut Korma-- it is flavorful and so tender. And really too can't go wrong. The food is fresh and hot and we savor every bite! read more

The food was good, but very expensive for an Indian restaurant, even an upscale one. I had the mo-mo's, which resembled Chinese dumplings with a sauce that was too spicy for me. It reminded me of a large appetizer more than a meal. My husband ordered the "Special Compartment Plate." They asked him if he wanted mild, medium or spicy, and he said spicy. The only spicy thing on the plate was the pickle, which is always spicy. The butter chicken was very good, but also very mild. He ordered this over-priced combination to get something Nepalese (as the label of the section indicated), not something he could get at any Indian restaurant (or something I can make at home). I am giving it 3 stars because the food was good, but very overpriced. read more

We stumbled upon this place due to a misprint in our hotel's recommendations page. We thought we were going to some Hunan place and instead found this gem. It was positively delicious. Our very not daring and very overtired 4 and 6 year old were terrified. We wanted to order them biryani- but the helpful waiter told us it would be too spicy. He instead directed us to a mango dish he thought they would like. Our food came with an accidental order of biryani. We were just going to chalk it up to a language difference and pay for it anyway, but the waiter comped it for us without us even asking. The children loved their mango dish. I loved the korma. Husband loved everything he tried. The food was beyond great. The service was beyond exceptional. We saw the waiter greet customers who obviously had been there before like they were family. I'm just sad we don't live in Rapid City so we could eat this all the time! I hope you eat here too so it will still be around next time we are in town!! read more
