Ordered take out from Himalayan House Restaurant on a recent trip to the San Diego area. Garlic cilantro naan - Finally, a garlic naan with real flavor! Unlike the many others that I've tried in the past that barely hint at garlic, this one was wonderfully garlicky. Just look at the visible pieces of actual garlic in my photo. Saag tofu - Saag tofu is an unusual and welcome option--it's typically saag paneer, a cheese I tend to avoid. They provided a very generous portion, and it paired perfectly with the included basmati rice and the garlicky naan. The Chicken Tikka Tandoori was outstanding! The chicken was flavorful, perfectly charred, and moist, and the portion size was massive. It filled up the entire togo container. Mango Lassi is our standard order, and this one was a winner! It had a wonderful, fresh taste, clearly made in-house rather than poured from a jug or premade. All the food was packed securely, neat, and included utensils for us. read more

Ordered the food to go and they were all packaged nicely with no spills. My favorite thing that we ordered was the saag paneer. Ordered a few different dishes like the butter chicken, shrimp curry and lamb vindaloo. They were all good but wish they were a little more spicy and more flavor. The service was not bad. The time it took to receive the food took a while. I was highly disappointed in the serving size. We spent $70 for 3 things! And the sizes were so tiny it was NOT worth the price! I don't think I will be back. It's not worth the prize. Made an online order for pickup and when we arrived, there was a sign on the door saying they were closed Monday-Thursday from 2 until 3/5pm. They called us over an hour later to tell us our order was ready, and we asked if we could get a refund but they informed us they cannot do refunds. The receipt for the online order was through Clover, which DOES ALLOW FOR REFUNDS, so they had lied to us multiple times. We asked if we could pick up the order and have the items remade as it had been multiple hours, and they told us to "just microwave the food." We will not be returning, which is disappointing because it was one of our favorite Himalayan restaurants. I hope they learn how to use their point of sale system so this doesn't happen to someone else. read more

Family dinner but they didn't want to do family style. Personally, this is a perfect place for family style. Lots of items ordered but pics are of the garlic cilantro naan, sweet naan, goat curry, chai, and mulligatawny soup. They also give you a cup of lentil soup with each main dish. The lentil soup was tasty but on a bit of the watery side. The mulligatawny soup, chicken and lentils, was delicious. I just wish they didn't use precooked chicken from the tandoor oven. The savory naan could've used just a tad more time in the oven. What surprised me was the sweet naan. It made for a nice dessert too at the end of the meal. My hubby put some raita on it and liked that combo. Their chicken monos were nicely seasoned and juicy. They give you some Himalayan sauce to go with it, gave it a nice little tang. My hubby's goat curry was medium spicy and it had a good little kick. The only thing about goat is you are contending with lots of bones. It was a cool evening so I was excited to have their chai. Unfortunately, it was watery and not very spicy at all. I love a real chai with a good kick to it. We will go again and I will probably try a lamb dish next time. read more

This is the first time I've tried Indian food and it was truly an excellent experience. I came with a friend who has been eating this delicious food for years and he recommended this place. The people who served us were very kind and helpful. Even the gentleman who was helping us suggested a spicy sauce, which was spicy but above all delicious. The tandoori was actually decent, but due to inflation...you'll pay 26 dollars for 3 shrimp, 2 pieces of chicken breast and 1 piece of lamb. Lots of veggies though. Ok, I've ordered from Himalayan House Restaurant for a long, long time and I've procrastinated on posting a review because I selfishly wanted to keep this secret for myself. Staff have always been helpful and quick with fulfilling orders. The food is stellar. We typically order their chicken tikka masala, butter chicken and lamb tandoori entrees. All of these dishes are always perfectly cooked, savory, saucy and palatable. You have the option to specify the heat level on the entrees, using a scale of 1 - 10. Be warned, ordering a dish 10/10 heat will cause your nose to run, your lips to burn and mouth to tingle. It hurts so good! Of course, we also order their naan bread to slop up all the sauce. Their kheer (rice pudding) is the perfect dessert to end an amazing meal. It's normally served warm and it's just a tad sweet. My only complaint is that I wish they gave you more kheer per order. We typically pay $75-85 (with tip). read more
