Great location right next to the Adelaide markets and the trams. Friendly staff and the breakfast was amazing with so many options.

We have several children including foster kids, so our opportunities to get respite so we can get away for a night are confined to about once or twice a year. So we try to do something nice and pick a 4 or preferably 5 star hotel to stay in. We hadn't stayed at The Hilton before and it was more expensive than other similar hotels, but with the Hilton brand we expected it to be really good. We spent a similar amount on a King deluxe room as we could have got a nicer room elsewhere (eg: small suite). We got breakfast as well. What was nice. The room was clean with stickers everywhere saying it had been 'Covid cleaned'. The bed was comfy. Temperature control was good and water pressure was great. Concierge were nice and friendly. Took a while for the Honors app digital key to kick in, but that was a nice touch. And when a room a couple of doors down stated playing music so loud it was thumping through ours, they were quick to come up and handle the situation. What could have been better. No robes - we had to call down and they supplied them within 10 minutes with many apologies. No top sheet on the bed. Again, a call downstairs and they fixed that too. Less than one roll of toilet paper supplied - glad we didn't run out, though came close. Room service stops at 10pm - seems a little early for a 5 star hotel. And if we did want anything, well $8.50 for a bottle of water? (There's no mini-bar due to Covid, so room service is your only option if you need something). Their online info says we can use our own subscriptions for Apple TV, Netflix etc but we couldn't find instructions on the TV as stated and by that stage, we were just a little over the whole thing so didn't bother calling for assistance. I'm tech savvy and if I need help to get that working, I wonder how others might fare. And it's a little thing, but I expect the toilet roll holder in a 5 star hotel to be complete, but half of it was missing. It just looks shabby and dated, as if they don't worry much about maintenance. And that's probably a statement of the place as a whole - it's clean, but dated. Breakfast was just a let down. It was obvious they'd been cooking food for a while, as the bacon was dry and chewy, but they hadn't put the tags out to state what was under each of the cloches. And when I came to use the toaster, one of the staff wiped down the knobs and in so doing turned the setting up to charcoal (I think technically it was "dark", but the result was the same). Coffee was served in individual plungers, but they didn't put anywhere near enough coffee in, so the result was so weak it was almost tasteless. And then for some reason they supplied the milk in another coffee mug, so trying to pour inevitably resulted in a pool of milk on the table. These are little things - but they just suggest they're not prepared for their guests. You might excuse one, but after half a dozen issues it's just not 5 star quality. Finally, the parking is a 5 minute walk away and with Covid, no valet service - fair enough. They offered a ticket for a local car park for $25. We declined but ending up parking in the same car park. We paid $8 instead. That's just a rip-off. Summary Charges like a 5 star hotel, but misses the mark. Promised much but delivered little. When I started counting my blessings, I realized that the Adelaide Hilton, its management and staff are among the best anyone can find. In the heart of Adelaide, on beautiful, bustling, and convenient Victoria Square, this iconic building has been a gathering place to innumerable people and organizations, locally and globally. It is clean, well-appointed with innumerable services, acclaimed restaurant, and such a super-friendly management and staff, that I decided to stay here the entire 49 days I had in Adelaide. At first I thought I might stay and savor different hotels, but I continued to extend at the Hilton as I truly believe that what it offers supersedes what some of the newer hotels might offer. I tried different rooms over my long stay and absolutely find them all very nice; I found the Jr. Suite to be the most amazing and amenable and comfortable for separating the work space (the long, large desk) from the living space. I felt I was at my modern condo back home. I was in heaven. Thank you everyone for making my stay memorable. I will miss you and will return in a few months from California! I cannot say I have had a bad experience at Hilton in Australia and the Adelaide hotel is no exception; checkin was a breeze, and I was offered extra information such as some of the local highlights to try for food... always going to win the heart of a Yelper. The rooms are as nice as you would expect, with a decent sized work desk, great bed and modern bathroom. Whilst they had one elevator out no one was ever waiting long and the staff were always ready to assist. I will review the restaurant separately however I will say that it was very good with fantastic staff! I will stay here again. read more

I stayed here for a work event and it did not disappoint. The ballroom was great and even though parts of the hotel are currently under construction the venue was impressive. The room overlooked Victoria Sq and the Adelaide Hills in the distance. The room was pleasant and typical Hilton standard. Did get incorrectly charged in check out but staff were quick to amend and create a solution. The banquet staff were amazing and friendly. read more

How often have you gone to a hotel and there are grooves/slumps in the mattress OR the room is like a sardine can (you and your partner, being the sardines!!)?? My husband surprised me for my birthday with a night away here. As a first time customer, I was pleasantly surprised by the service, spacious rooms and quality of linen and mattress. I slept like a baby (a change from being awake most nights with my children)! Valet Parking & Buffet Breakfast was included in our stay; along with a 1pm checkout. The buffet breakfast was THE BEST I have had in Adelaide - you have to try the 'Pakora'!! If you don't believe me, try it for yourself. What a place!!! An incredible room w/ such an incredible view that gave me the privilege of seeing Adelaide city all the way to the airport. Pros: - Taxi bay was always full and right out front. - Getting help w/ my bags as I walked up the stairs. - Desk staff were super friendly. - Room was amazing and very classy. - The bed was really comfortable. - The mini fridge was stocked to the brim. - The shower was heavenly. - The bar had a large amount of beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic). - The bartenders were extremely kind and enjoyed delving into conversations. - The food was phenomenal and well cooked. In 2017 I left a review saying this was my favorite hotel anywhere and I meant it - back then.  They cared about the shared loyalty with me having two long stays per year plus some number of shorter stays it having been my hotel of choice for about a decade.  I was always able to get a reservation within the lodging allowance I had with my work.  I felt as if I was part of the hotel family.  That was a pre-pandemic review and the hotel that has emerged from the pandemic is very different.  Even with my history with the hotel and being in Hilton's highest tier, my business is no longer valued.  They have eliminated the rate as an option that I would frequently get in the past.  Even before the pandemic there was some erosion of amenities but the overall experience still made them my go to place.  Post pandemic with the erosion of amenities the rates I am finding for the exact same time of the year as when I was staying for nearly a decade prior to the pandemic are generally about 70aud higher now.  I tried working through business development but they had no interest in working with me so I would be able to stay.  Yet I have colleagues who stay at one of the IHG properties in Adelaide and they send an email to the business development person and get the special rate no matter what the online rate is even though they are not in a high tier in the IHG program (on their last stay the rate they got with the IHG property was almost 100aud lower than what was available online).  Also there is one of the apartment hotels in the CBD that has expressed an interest in working with me on future trips as part of looking to develop a long term partnership.  It is sad when after such a long time of shared loyalty that they would so easily be willing to say we don't care about my business anymore.  It will also be interesting to see the impact to the hotel now that the area just West of the property is going to be a multi-year construction zone with the end result being the loss of the Hilton's view of the ocean when a new building is completed that will dwarf the Hilton. read more

Strongly disliked this place... First off, the food was crap. Such a tired buffet. almost all processed gross tasting food. When I asked about healthy options, they gave me a blank look. Everything was heavy on the salt and cream. Even the coffee machine was off. Rooms were ok, remodeled to be useable but the shower was quite small. Rooms were fine for the single night. Room overlooked the square and the light rail. Gym was ok. Didn't get to use the pool. Easy to get taxis. The very best attribute of this property is it's location. Conveniently located in the center of town right in front of a trolley stop (2-stops from the major shopping area) and next to the Central Market. The hotel itself is okay. Nothing special here. The place is clean and in good working order. The staff friendly but not super knowledgeable. (In particular about dining or tourist options) Bathrooms could use a bit of maintenance. In particular our toilet paper kept falling on the floor because the holder was wither missing a piece or mounted improperly. Breakfast is nice with a fairly wide selection of options from the buffet. I liked the eggs benedict, freshly ordered at the counter. We had breakfast here two mornings and on one they had freshly made chicken wings which were good but kind of weird for morning. The made to order juice bar was a nice touch. Hilton's policy of no free wi-fi in room (only lobby) continues to annoy me! Also, found the TV difficult to operate. It worked just couldn't figure an efficient way to search channels. read more

The rooms are comfortable, though the modernistic decor is a little on the stark side. The HermanMiller office chair was nice. I liked the conference facilities, delicious catering and very comfortable. The fitness room is pretty sad for a hotel in this price range. It's tiny and has almost no weight machines or free weights. The Intercontinental which is the competing hotel at this price point had a much better gym. Everything in Australia is on the expensive side given the current exchange rate, but for a city the size of Adelaide, I was still surprised at how expensive hotels like this are. The internet charge in particular exorbitant. I've stayed at hotels where the room rate was less than the daily internet usage fee they were charging here. read more

There must be a reason why there is construction going on at this Hilton because it is definitely due for some renovations... I hope that the changes that come from such a renovation would allow future stays to rate this place higher... Have stayed here several times on business and always disappoints! Does not have the finesse of other Hiltons we have stayed in. The executive floor is not consistent with their service! At the w/end when food ran out there was no more (not so during the week) Flies on the food! Worst of all there is a sign up asking people to clear their plates away!! The Hilton is a 5-star brand for a reason. My partner and I really enjoyed our Valentine's night escapade here, and we were both impressed by the presentation and comfort of our room. I was pleasantly surprised by the length of the room and softness of our sheets and pillow. The only downer was that their jacuzzi was not working when we really wanted to have a dip in! I frequently stay at Hilton Hotels in the US on business. My husband and I would only be in town for one night on our whirlwind 2 day wine tour. I thought the Hilton would suffice, especially since I got a ridiculous Expedia rate of $230 for a Queen (Hilton website was $370 for the same room). They upgraded us to a King with a park view without me even asking! The room did not disappoint. Clean, modern room with nice bed, sheets, towels and amenities. We had a long day of wine tasting and decided to have dinner at the Hilton too. The food quality and price was good for dinner. We also ate breakfast there before heading out to McLaren Vale to wine taste. We thought the breakfast price ($38 for the hot buffet) was a little steep. There were two chefs cooking eggs to order along with a large select of hot and cold foods, plus multiple pots of coffee delivered to our table. A few days later we had a buffet at another hotel in Sydney and kept comparing it to the Hilton. So all in all a good buffet even for the price. I would definitely stay here again even if I had more than one night. read more

Great hotel, but five stars is ridiculous. It was the first 5 star hotel WAY BACK IN 1982 and nothing has changed since. In the meantime, a new holiday inn express is better than this place. The bathrooms have not been touched since 1982, i think the toilet seats may even be original, because I don't think they make them so thin and flimsy in this century. When you touch the toilet paper, it falls off the hanger. The showerhead is for the birds and the sink faucets are a pain in the ass and the cold water screams at you when you turn it up. The air condition also sounds like someone is taking a shower in your room and the internet is worthless. STEP IT UP MR. HILTON. That being said, the lobby is pretty nice which brought it from two stars to three. read more

The Executive lounge is ok but again nothing special for the cost, and too often executives doing business meetings. Wi-fi free on this floor, but really should be generally available in this day. Although i am a regular to Hilton, points are not worth worrying about when the quality isn't there. This one is not for me. read more

We've enjoyed our stay at the Hilton Adelaide. The staff is always friendly and courteous. We requested a king bed and the room was very spacious which included a big work desk, safe, mini frig, a breville hot water pot and lots of cabinet and closet space. We are Hilton honor members so the Internet was free. The hotel doesn't have on site parking so you can self park in a special location that the hotel will give you access to or pay the valet fee. The hotel is in a great location, there's a light rail stop across the street; you're in walking distance to Gouger Street (tons of restaurants), Chinatown, the Adelaide Market (fresh fruit, veggies, meats, cheeses, breads, cafes, deli salads and sandwiches, etc) and Coles supermarket is around the corner as well. They state continental breakfast but there's eggs, bacon, sausage, smoked salmon, ham, turkey, cheese, yogurts, cereals, danishes, breads, a selection of juices, sparkling water and even champagne. Pour up your own mimosas baby! The wait staff at the restaurant were so friendly and everything is meticulously set up for your dining pleasure. My daughters favorite breakfast items were yogurt and chocolate croissants. The Hilton Adelaide will not disappoint. read more

A mainstay of luxury hotels in Adelaide, the Hilton has aged a little, but lost none of its charm. My favourite space is the atrium bar where you can sit in an airy space under an interesting roof/lighting scape on comfortable chairs and couches as you are served by staff who have been well trained in the art of helpfulness without being intrusive. An excellent place to meet friends and interstate colleagues and have a drink or two while debriefing on the day. I have also visited their ground floor restaurant for breakfast and dinner while catching up with interstate guest, and have found it to be perfectly adequate. read more

I have stayed in four star places with more class and style than the Hilton. The room and service was fine, but not memorable. The last time I stayed at the Hilton, I was about 8 years old. When you're 8, any hotel that has a pool is super-impressive. 27 years later (you do the maths!), and I was keen to see what my adult experience would be like. We had a package which included valet parking, so we pulled in amongst the melee that was half-a-dozen cars packed into the slip lane out the front of the hotel. Lots of people, lots of cars but surprisingly the valet attendants were very prompt and super fast to book my car in. Check in, again, was super fast and uncomplicated. Very direct and efficient, however they gave me the level we were staying on but not the room. Perhaps not the be all and end all of check in, but it would save frantic searching on the check in slip as to what room we were in. The room itself was a King Deluxe. It was clean, and neat. Not huge, but for one night in town we didn't need anything palatial. The minibar was neatly tucked away, and as per usual highly priced. We were lucky to grab a bottle of bubbly as part of our deal and this was delivered to us within 15 minutes of checking in, along with 2 champagne flutes. Again, very prompt and friendly service. We spent the evening out on the town, and therefore did not dine in. However, we did avail ourselves of the buffet breakfast at The Brasserie in the morning. Highly popular on a Sunday morning, we had a 10 minute wait for a table. This wasn't a huge problem, however the conduct of some of our fellow guests were. Specifically, their children, who some parents seemed to have no problem allowing to roam free-range around the restaurant. Now I am the mother of a 6 year old, so I know that kids can be difficult to keep still for more than 5 seconds, let alone 5 minutes. However, I do believe that if you are taking your children to such a restaurant, you should exercise some restraint with them. Pushing in at the hot buffet and helping themselves in front of you is not only bad manners on the child's part, but moreso on the parent's! The same goes for putting hands over food, and running in front of people with hot beverages - both things that I saw more than once. It doesn't take much to keep your kids in check. And if you can't, then don't frequent these places! That aside, the breakfast was decent buffet fair. There is the option to order some items fresh, and if you don't mind paying the (considerable) extra, you can have a freshly brewed coffee. Check out on a Sunday morning is somewhat fraught with danger. People everywhere, and much pushing and shoving. A lot of unfortunate staring too by some clientele (mind you, we do look a little out of the ordinary). Amazingly the staff remain cool and calm under pressure, and are quick to process check outs. Picking up our car was fairly simple (ringing through 15 mins before we checked out). However, there was a traffic jam in leaving, as someone parked at the front of the queue had obviously ordered their car and not bothered to collect it. Again, the staff jumped into action, and moved the offending vehicle. I am an Adelaide local, so I didn't have to ask for recommendations, but by reading through some people's reviews it appears some of the staff are light on for local knowledge. Perhaps the hotel should invest a bit of time in bringing them up to speed, since this is an internationally renowned hotel chain. All in all, an okay stay at the Hilton. The staff are definitely friendly, and I couldn't fault them at any stage. However, the clientele did put me off a little (no fault of the hotel of course). Not sure I'd go the distance again on this one. read more

The Hilton Adelaide is nice, it's just not up to a 5 Star standard in my humble opinion. Yes it's clean, yes we had a king size bed and yes we had a phone next to the loo for those all important toilet calls (WTF?). Its decor and design is looking very dated however (compared to other plush hotels). The lobby is very nice for fancy-pants drinks you never knew existed, the ambience enhanced by candles, BUT the table service is as slow as a hillbilly. My biggest gripe was a lack of consistency in service standards from one day to the next. For example, after a very liquid eve with my beau we returned to the hotel and did what any drunk and hungry person would do - wondered why he only had a sock on one foot and where and when he lost his shoe? Lol! After that bafflement we proceeded to order (not cheap) wedges via room service. A HUGE bowl of deep-fried seasoned potato swiftly arrived with extra serves of dipping sauces. Needless to say we were two very happy booze-hounds. We were so smitten that the next night we couldn't wait to get back up to the hotel room and get our hands on....more wedges. This time they took forever, were in a tiny bowl, over-cooked and had hardly any sour cream and sweet chilli. Disappointment! Five stars for the great location. Near the free downtown tram and right next door to the great Adelaide Central Market. Two to three stars for everything else. WiFi is not free and is barely serviceable. The hotel is clean and the staff so-so. They really don't know a lot about the area or about Adelaide for that matter. Amazing to me, but hey. Breakfast is nice. Nothing special. Coffee is good but way too expensive. Regrading TV, Note to Marriott: Innovate and put an Apple TV unit in every room with the option that the guest may log onto their own account and access their own content. read more

Came here in a cocktail bar crawl. It's in a great location close to the tram and the Royal Croquet Club during the fringe. It has a good atmosphere for those wanting a place to slowly start the night with plenty of places to take a seat and get stuck into some of their delicious (if not a little overpriced) cocktails. The staff are friendly and the music not so loud you're lungs are bursting in trying to be heard. An overall fun place to start a Saturday night - be warned for any first timers its tucked away to the right of the Hilton Hotel (there's no need to go all the way into the hotel like me and friend did)! read more

Very dated. Website says it has been refurbished, but it has not. Air conditioning did not work in the two rooms we were in, we had to book to have breakfast when it was part of our package as half of the restaurant was booked to outside parties. It's passable but I think I'll try another place the next time I'm there. The rooms are ok with all the things you expect of a business hotel of course some issues. The hotel restaurant for breakfast is the greatest negative. If you are on business travel you want options that are lower calorie and breakfast is one of them. It's not possible to just order a bowl of cereal but rather they make you order their huge buffet (think huge cost) and if you don't "advance book" they will nail you for even more $$$. I know they want to maximize revenue but they crossed the line of not caring about the customer. I didn't know you had to advance book your breakfast and I just left and got something that made sense at another place nearby as the hostess made it seem like I did something "wrong" or "bad" by not pre booking my breakfast. I asked the girl if they price matched what's online through third party companies, and she seemed very annoyed that I should ask her a question like that? I used to work at a Hilton for 3 years and know how it works. I have traveled all over and every hotel price matches. I had been driving all day for 8 hours and was tired so I went ahead and booked through Hilton Honors on my phone. She said that I booked through a third party company, and I showed her my reservation through Hilton Honors. She said that she must have made a mistake? Obviously this girl didn't know how to see how someone has booked, so I asked to speak with her manager. He said the same thing as her about price matching third parties (weird)? Come to find out the next morning after talking to another manager, she said they do price match. Unfortunately I had already exited the screen the night before after being denied and lied to. It's unfortunate for some businesses to look bad over a few sorry employees that obviously don't know how things operate within there company. They shouldn't be working the front desk do to the fact that's the first impression the guest has upon arrival. It wasn't just being mis-informed, it was the poor attitude for such a simple task. Parking lot is 100 yards from the hotel, across the other side of the road on a busy intersection as well. Other than the customer service AT NIGHT & parking, the hotel is centrally located and has comfortable rooms. At this particular Hilton, I would recommend booking through the third party if checking in at night so you don't have to deal with the NIGHT TIME front desk agents other than to get your room key. Such a terrible establishment trading off the Hilton name. This place is all facade. The rooms are dated and overpriced. The restaurant is stuffy and try hard. I had the worst service from whom I believe was a supervisor. He was arrogant, condescending and clearly was on a power trip from not being popular in school. The way he treated customers wavered and the staff clearly were not a fan of him or his attitude. If you are going to have robotic staff and a supervisor who treats you like he is walking gold then I suggest you don't call this place friendly or a great service. read more

Welcome to Australia, where the dollar is King and customer service is sorely lacking ! Had a most unpleasant experience at this hotel today and suddenly my love affair with Hilton hotels is over. I had rung a few days ago to request an early check in as I was travelling on a bus for 24 hours to get here and was told by an icy female that it would all depend on the day...so I asked to be put on a wait list for an early arrival. arrived after my travels, two days without sleeping, the bus had broken down, and I was pressurized to upgrade to a Deluxe room as the hotel was FULL...really, 400 rooms all full?? I dont think so...I had already splashed out almost 250 dollars for the night so I refused to pay more out of principle. The woman at reception was disparaging..I asked if I could have my buffet breakfast today instead of tomorrow as I was exhausted and hungry and was told NO as if I was a child. I was then supposed to wait until 3pm to check in.. A wonderful waitress invited me to have a coffee and was shocked that I had not been allowed to switch my breakfast around, and so her supervisor invited me to eat breakfast for free as a goodwill gesture. Moments of human kindness..thank G-d.. I then complained to a Manager about the customer care ar Reception. TWO hours later I was allowed to access my room which supposedly had been cleaned for me after some guests had checked out. However I could see very clearly that no one had been in my room in the past 24 hours. I checked with the lady who cleans the rooms on that floor. No one had been in my room. I asked her to ring her supervisor to check. My room had been empty ! Yet I had been told the hotel was full and urged to pay more for an Upgrade.. Honestly, this property is not up to Hilton standards if such a thing exists. Definitely not 5 star. First the cons - for AUD240/night its expensive and in need of updating, uncomfortable bed, shower doesn't fully drain, seemed to have an inch of standing water and stained carpet. As a Hilton Honors member, having to re-authenticate the WIFI every few days is annoying - also, the room key is needed to access floor, while a good security measure, most of the time, the key either doesn't work the first time or must be inserted several times to be read, long after passing the floor. Service is inconsistent, over two weeks at the property, vacuum the room was not done each day if at all, housekeeping had to be called twice to make the room, whereby settled for fresh towels, and trying to reach the front desk in a timely manner is a crap shoot. For the pros, good location next to the central market, good TV and very pleasant staff at the desk, but for the money, should be better perks like free breakfast as is standard in Hilton in Singapore, Taipei and Yokohama and lastly, this property needs updated. read more
