However the Excelsior has on various occasions impressed me. They have an imaginative menu and excellent quality of food. The service is always friendly and the servers go out of their way to make their patrons feel comfortable. Would recommend highly.

The familiar mural of, a nearing two story Ghost who walks, which had been the pubs call sign and claim to fame was no where to be seen! In place of the timeless artwork (no doubt worshipped my many a drunkard) was a drab and uninspired shade of apricot covering the entire building. Needless to say it has taken me the better part of a box of tissues to dry my eyes from this travesty.....but, one must not dwell when there is Yelping a foot! The Excelsior is a pub in two for me. The front of house is a sports/casual bar, that has seen its fair share of colourful characters. The recent facelift to the entire interior has definately helped a great deal, but to be honest it is a case of a pub, is a pub, is a pub. The back half is your typical family eatery that is blessed with the presence of the bright lights and melodic tones of an extensive Pokie area (only a little sarcasm there). The major change of late is the added emphasis of Meat on the menu and in the marketing, always a good thing if you ask me! For me, The Excelsior, even when it did have it's famous graphic on the side of the building, was never a pub that I went out of my way to visit. The nuts and bolts have improved a lot in the last year so if you do enjoy a cold Pint and a decent hunk of cow with then jump on board! Moooo. P.S. Pub closing hours may be earlier or later depending on patronage, but being in a residential area early morning ragers are out of the question!

Two grips however it doesn't have a pool, and the roof view to the west looks at skyscrapers and roof tops. However if you are an early riser check out the roof top at sunrise. Ohhhhh two more negatives sorry when you are pay $400 a night for your room the least they could do is actually make you a fresh cup of coffee. UNFORTUNATELY! The have one of those automatic push the button and the machine pours out brown water with no flavor! If you ask for a real cup of coffee they want to charge you more for it. Seriously $400 dollars for my room and I still have to pay for my coffee! So I giving it a very weak 4 star's just like there weakest coffee possible! Yuk!

Ok, maybe I'd throw in the word comfort too, for this hotel had the most comfortable bed of my entire two week trip. Yup, I was as snug as a little joey in his mother's pouch. Oh, and the carpeted floors were simply Heaven with so much spongy padding underneath the carpet that I felt like I was walking on a cloud. I swear this experience was just like taking a trip to a spa, and it had me crying, "Why can't my carpets at home be this awesome!" Finally, the location of this one rocks!! The whole area near the hotel is loaded with bars and restaurants of just about every style--why I even found a sushi conveyor-belt restaurant around the corner. Kanpai! Yes Sir, whatever language you want to say it in---Kanpai, Cheers, Hooray, or Good On YA ----The Majestic Roof Garden Hotel is a winner.

This USED TO BE a great place for steak on a Thursday night - NOT ANY MORE…read more Thursday nights were always packed with families for steak night because it WAS a family friendly pub. Tonight it was NOT busy & the few children that were there didn't have the entertainment room to occupy them, so we got to listen to rowdy children in the dining room who were clearly bored & missing their usual distraction. You used to be able to place your order, then go to the amazing salad bar for something to nibble on while waiting for your meal. Not tonight, no, we had to WAIT for our salad bar plates to be delivered to our table (along with bowls we didn't want). Then we could go to the pitiful excuse for a salad bar. It used to have an excellent selection of salads, NOT NOW. It looked like they decided to put out the least expensive salad options they could find & tried to dress it up by putting out a whole lot of 'sprinkle/garnishes' to on top. We don't want sprinkles or garnishes for our lack lustre salads - we want the amazing salad selection that used to be on offer. And we DO NOT want to wait for the plates. We got our steaks ( which were cooked to perfection) along with a veritable 'forest'' of wilted greenery on the plate - not appealing at all. Two of us ordered MUSHROOM SAUCE - what we got was something that tasted more like a Dianne sauce & we struggled to find any actual pieces of mushroom in it. On top of that, the QR codes on the tables DON'T WORK. Don't have them on the table if they're not of any use. It was so completely different to our previous experiences here that I went & asked what on earth had happened since we were last here. The answer: NEW OWNERS Well, 'new owners', if we have to wait to be given our salad bar plate & have the same unappealing salad options to choose from, no entertainment room for children etc (basically ALL THE CHANGES YOU HAVE MADE) - WE WON'T BE COMING BACK.

What an eclectic bar it is - they have a Facebook page, the Karaoke is on Wednesday night, Red Uncensored and Terri-Louise Kelly may be reciting poetry on one night a month along with plenty of other local poets and there are bands on a Thursday and Sunday night. You can get nosh a la pub for around ten dollars, nothing too fancy but it will fill your guts and the locals will fill your head full of fun stories and strange sayings. This is an old school pub with a decent drive through and a pretty good car park. There is an outdoor area for the smokers and you would go a long way to find such an easy going and chilled out venue that deals in rock and roll as well as poetry. I quite like it because it hasn't got trendy, and it is not trying to get trendy. Who needs to be trendy when you have all the poets in Adelaide massing in the back room and waxing lyrical every few weeks - that says it all. Ever met a poet in a pub who didn't have a full glass and an eye for another?

I have to say though Paul has done wonders and I'm very pleased to have been associated with him in the days of live music at Brompton in the House of Bedlam.
