Coconut creme pie
Julia M.

I've lived in the area a few years, but I somehow missed this gem until recently! I ordered two pies to bring to my family Easter, and wow, we were all impressed! The pies were absolutely delicious and reasonably priced. The coconut creme was light, fluffy, and full of coconut. The French silk didn't even last a full day in the house. Enough said! Can't wait to order more.

Great place to stop for a bite! Breakfast, Lunch, or Dinner! Hilltop is the place to go when you've got a hankering for a home cooked meal!

Biker destination...and if you've ever seen a biker, you know the dining is up to par. Last week, prime rib lunch with salad, this week fried chicken with homemade spuds.

For the price and the incredible homemade pie, I'm adding a star. For being in the middle of…read moresomeplace I didn't know exists, this was a really great lunch spot. I'd typically give this 4 stars, but the price, service and the homemade meringue PIE bump this up to 5, especially because this place is way better than the current 3.5 star rating. I mean, you're not in the midst of epic food eateries in De Kalb MO. Lunch was chicken salad on a croissant, and a big bowl of homemade creamy potato soup. The chicken salad was large, tasty, and had onions, celery and grapes in perfect proportions. The soup was hot and thick, with very tiny bits of carrot and other veggies. I had the chocolate meringue pie. The crust is light and buttery. The meringue is old fashioned goodness. The chocolate is dark and rich and not overly sweet. The coconut meringue looked really awesome and everyone said the coconut was incredible. I was part of a group of over 25 people and the owner made and served all the food and drinks. She did a superb job cooking and serving this meal. Water, tea (sweet or unsweetened) and coffee was included. Lunch was $13.75 including tax. That's sandwich, soup, PIE and a drink! Great place for a large gathering. I didn't have my phone handy so I couldn't grab pics. But the next time I'm close, I'll be stopping by for some coconut meringue pie!

Amazing home style food! We keep coming back time and time again. Great people and atmosphere too.read more

We wrapped up our weekend in Weston with a stop at Weston Café, and it did not disappoint! Our…read moreparty of eight was seated immediately (a rare and glorious feat), and waters arrived in record time. Most of the table fueled up with coffee, while I had to make do with a Diet Pepsi--an acceptable substitute, though my Coke Zero-loving heart shed a quiet tear. The café itself is charmingly quirky, with local artwork adorning the walls--some for sale, some just adding to the cozy atmosphere. It's the kind of place where you instantly feel at home, like a neighborhood gem that's been serving up comfort for years. I ordered the Veggie Lover Breakfast (half portion, $8.99) and a side of raisin toast--because let's be real, if raisin toast is on the menu, it's happening. My husband went all in with the Weston Café Skillet ($12.99), a hearty and reasonably priced meal. Despite the size of our group, the food arrived quickly, hot, and all at once--a small breakfast miracle. If you're in Weston and looking for a friendly spot with great food and small-town charm, Weston Café is the place to be. Just be prepared to settle for Diet Pepsi if you're a Coke Zero fan.

Service was fun and quick. We tried the half skillet (no one needs a whole one ), chicken fried steak, Weston Benedict, and the meat and cheese omelet. This review is for lunch at the bar for two on a Saturday in mid-August…read more service: Elizabth B. was our waitstaff and she was great. Very professional and prompt. Place was packed, but she didn't miss a beat. bar: Outstanding beer list, including Hop Butcher (Chicago) New School Hawaii Vibes IPA. Their tap list includes a style for everyone's interest. Big emphasis here on cocktails. Elizabeth put together a stunning Cosmo ($10!) for my wife. food: My wife's half Baja Turkey and soup-of-the-day, Chicken Noodle, with chips ($12) was outstanding. My half Not Your Mama's BLT and tomato bisque with chips (also $12) was equally fantastic. details: This is a relatively small restaurant with choice of inside, outside, and bar seating. Of note, the host also seats the bar, it's not open seating at the bar. There was a 20-minute wait at 1pm on a Saturday. Street parking outside in NOTO. There is a 3% surcharge if you pay with credit card.

The one question I have is why is it called The Wheel Barrel? I know a wheelbarrow, a wheel of cheese, a wine barrel, but I haven't figured out the name yet. If I make it back, maybe I can ask. The Wheel Barrel serves grill cheese/sandwiches and soup. I appreciate the concept and in this situation keeping it rather simple yet with some good selection for sandwiches and soup. I got a special wild rice and chicken soup with a half Baja turkey sandwich. It's a half and half for $12. I thought both tasted very good. I didn't eat quite all of it but I'd say it is a normal meal. Not a huge serving. I think most people would eat this in one meal. I think if I'm back in Topeka, I'll have to go back and do the traditional grilled cheese and tomato bisque! It was a busy lunch time meal. A nice size crowd was there. Service was still pretty quick. They have a rustic decor which is sort of like a wheelbarrow and a barrel. It's on a block that seems to be trying to add some art and culture to Topeka and I appreciate that a lot! If I'm back over that way, I'll stop back in and if definitely recommend it in Topeka.
