I have 12 family members at Hillside cemetery. Some have graves on the grass, two families are in two different Mausoleums. Hillside is such a beautiful area to have a family member laid to rest. There are so many trees on the property. I looked on ancestry and found that some family members were buried there . I contacted a person in their office whom found where my relatives were buried. It took a few days because they get busy at times but they did get me the information and I found their grave sites. read more

Very upset for Father's Day graves look like they haven't had attention in long time some places at least clean up for holidays tire tracks all over the graves they flip graves and don't fix them they are lucky I didn't see any workers not what it used to be when we choose to have our loved ones here read more

Beautiful, quiet, and green, this cemetery is the place to go and is perfect for a picnic and a stroll. Huge oaks make this un-spooky graveyard lovely for a nap or squirrel-watching! If you get tired of lazing about, take a gander around the gorgeous Victorian head stones; hint, bring some paper and a crayon and collect some stone rubbings! Many of the stones feature beautiful carvings that can date back to the mid 1800's. (uh hello? AWESOME DATE IDEA!!!) A warning: it is closed after sundown and can be quite creepy if there is no moon out (because there is no lighting and tripping on an exposed root or even a headstone is impossible to avoid). And the cops will show up. So, this is cautionary. (This is me again --- STILL love this place and still agree) read more

Nice place. Most of my family is laid to rest here. There have been times when I have gone to a grave site and the site had not been maintained. Once, in fact, there was sod planted right over the spot the grave was. Lucky I know where the graves of my family are. The staff did fix this right away. Overall, great place. read more

I love this beautiful cemetery. It's amazing. It's right out of stories books or scary movies scenes. I went twice in one week and had my camera just completely mess up all my pictures during both visits, hasn't happened since. It was quite spooky. It's very serene here. I highly recommend this cemetery. Armando was sensitive, caring, accommodating and informative. Unfortunately, economics being involved for some of us families, this is a more affordable option because it's is a public facility owned by the city of Redlands versus a privately owned business. I'm thankful for all their help and they worked well with Sunset funeral care that I also had arrangements with. read more

Hillside is a beautiful cemetery but the sales office manager acts unprofessional. The manager is very slow to process transfers and purchases. I am very unhappy with the performance of his duties. He has been out of the office for long periods of time. We had to wait over 2 weeks for an appointment with him. We have been waiting a month for a deed to be prepared. I expected more from a city owned cemetery. His supervisor needs to supervise him. There should be a more compassionate and efficient employee in this position. Grieving families deserve better! read more

My great grandfather sold the property to (I believe) the City of Redlands in the late 1800's for $10.00 an acre + 50 lots-5-6 of which I still own. The problem in "The Original Block" where my family is buried around Great Grandpa Edgar F. Pierce & Great Grandma Anna Pettibone Pierce, is that the huge Cypress trees have created a "web" of roots under the grass and not only make a casket interment near impossible, but even an ash interment difficult (and expensive), but they've also cracked, broken & raised numerous flat markers. The city will do little or nothing about this. I've loved walking the grounds for my entire life & learning how the WPA built the walls & curbs around the park during WWII. I was heartbroken during my last visit since the water cup I paid for for my dad's lot back in 1986 is gone. It has been replaced 3 times due to the careless drivers of the large mowers. Imagine driving over 100 miles with several bouquets of flowers to find a missing water cup & others so deeply pushed into the ground & cracked that (if you're lucky) takes a crowbar to pry out. I'm handicapped & unable to do that myself, & the woman in the office was rude & "Too busy" to even speak to me. I left & returned 30 minutes later (as she had told me to do), and she had left (early) for the day! I love the park because it was once Great Grandpa's orange grove & is part of my family's history as the first settlers in the Redlands/East Highland area in the late 1880's. I don't expect a lot & don't act as though I deserve special attention due to my Great Grandfather, but just a little service & assistance if needed. Also, it's interesting to know that Barbara Bush, wife of President George HW Bush, has a mausoleum cript reserved for her there. The Redlands Police are actually "posted" inside the locked gates on Halloween nights since in many past years, kids have come in to push over many of the old monuments. My great grandparents' was pushed over years back & is still quite crooked, but (if you can find one) the grounds keepers refuse to try to wiggle them into the slot that holds them upright. I would like to sell a few of my remaining lots, but the city frowns on "private sales", and will only give me $500.00 each when I know they will sell them for 3x that amount. I'm saddened that Hillside has begun looking "seedy" & the roads have numerous potholes that can damage your alignment (that have been there for years), but I can find NO ONE who will speak to me about my concerns. This used to be a lovely, well-maintained park, and the City of Redlands should be ashamed!! read more

Hillside Memorial Park is one of the "crown jewels" of Redlands. It's a beautiful, peaceful property, full of the City's rich history. The on-site office is staffed by Julie and Linda, who are very compassionate, respectful and helpful in your time of need, or for pre-arrangements. Four of my family members are buried at Hillside, and I have a plot of my own which I expect to occupy someday. This is a great place to experience some restorative tranquility, or to engage in sentimental memories or pensive reflections. However, I would disagree with other reviewers who suggest that this is a wonderful location for a picnic. Considering friends and family members who may have recently lost a loved one, and who have come to visit the gravesite, I don't think they would want Hillside Memorial Park turned into a McDonald's franchise, with kids running around shouting, jumping on headstones, or throwing toys back and forth. Nor would those visitors likely enjoy the scent of roasting hotdogs or barbecued chicken interfering with their personal meditation. If you want to enjoy your lunch under a shade tree, there are plenty of RECREATIONAL parks in Redlands. I would therefore kindly ask the "picnic-ers" not to use a MEMORIAL park as a place for recreational activities. Please show some sensitivity toward the visitors who may be experiencing overwhelming grief, or where burial ceremonies may actually be in progress. read more
