We hired them to moved cross country. We had someone come out and give us an estimate. They gave us wrong information about our pool table. Everyone is very pleasant on phone. Moving day comes and we got "the best mover/driver". They were suppose to load truck in 2 days. The driver told us he wanted to see his mom between jobs in Miami. He was doing it in one job. Because the estimater gave us wrong information we had to quick get a crate company for our pool table. We also had them do large mirrors and frames. I had a brand new dining room set. The worker had the table turned over and was standing on it. I asked what he was doing? He mumbled taking it apart. This was the beginning of our nightmare. The driver set up a grill in our driveway on boxes, and was cooking with grease splattering all over. My neighbors could not believe the circus in front of our house. The movers were rushing and were stressing us out. We did not expect to have to move the whole house (over 3000 square feet) in one day. Because of the rush we forgot things, misplaced things and things got damaged. The workers on the packing up side were so disrespectful. They left red 1/2 empty Gatorade bottles all over our house along with their trash. They just threw them in the bedrooms or rooms they were working. The driver was constantly pressuring and rushing everyone to move faster. He told us if we weren't there when he got there he would put our stuff in storage and we would get charged for storage and redelivery. He was leaving and would be there by a certain day. We called Hills and were told we had until September 9th 8am. We were driving cross country and drove non stop, luckily we made it. The workers unloading truck were careful and conscientious. Now the damage - we have multiple pieces of expensive Ethan Allen furniture that have the blue blanket melted into them and finish rubbed off. We have some other damage. We paid for additional insurance, probably a waste. We called Hills and were told to go online and file a claim. They sent me a link. I guess after this horrific experience I would expect more direction or help. We moved into a rental until our house is completed. I would never use them again. I will be looking for a new moving company in 8 months. They could have had 2 moves with us - instead one very unhappy customer. This move cost us close to $20,000 for the move and crates. I hired this company to move into a new home December 2019. I signed a binded contract for a 2 full day move and put on my credit card. When I received my credit card bill the following month they had overcharged me. I have been arguing with this company for 4 months now. The credit card company is no help. Do not use this company. I was very good to the drivers on day of move I supplied lunch for each driver both days and tipped them well at end of second day and they still overcharged me!! My husband and I have moved cross country several times, and have used several national van lines. We've always had good experiences and in fact, have never felt the need to buy the insurance. Since my husband's company was paying this time, we did buy insurance, and thank goodness! This was by far the worst move we've ever had. As anyone who's moved knows, it's the local agency and not which national van line you choose that matters. Hill's Mayflower failed to deliver on all counts. - the movers arrived late (this happens a lot, so NBD) - they sent 2 movers who were very green - one said this was his "first and last" move and another didn't know what a wardrobe was! - they took 10 hours (10:30 am to 8:30 pm) for a small 4 bedroom house and we had already sold about half the furniture because we were moving into a partially furnished house! We had done the same move only a year prior, from Nashville to Gainesville, and it took them 4 hours. The driver had to redo a bunch of stuff because their movers were so inexperienced. Because of this, we had to reschedule the cleaning people we had scheduled to do a move-out clean at 5 pm (movers were supposed to come at 8 am and we were sure they'd be done by 5. Not so much). I personally called Kristina, our move coordinator, at 3 pm to ask her to send additional help, and she said she would look into it but nothing happened. I spoke with JD, the owner, at 6 pm and still no help. - they couldn't fit everything on the truck. JD and the driver promised us that everything would fit even though it clearly looked like it wasn't going to, and then at 8 pm, they said they'd have to come back for the rest another day! I couldn't believe it. That's never happened to us, in 8 long distance moves. We're very fortunate that we didn't have to give the keys back to our landlord that night. - another van came the next day to get the rest and was shipped on a different truck. We had to do a week of storage in California because we weren't moving into our new house until 2 weeks later, and they assured us that both shipments would be delivered at our new house on the same day, since delivery was 2 weeks after pick-up. Nope. The second batch didn't come on our scheduled delivery date. I had to call Kristina (again) to get it scheduled, and she wasn't even aware that it hadn't come! Since we didn't know we were going to need 2 trucks (obviously), we hadn't separated our things into "crucial" and "not crucial", so this was very unfortunate. - there were a lot of damages. We had never had more than a few scratches before. Not this time. Probably because the movers were so inexperienced and didn't wrap and pack the furniture well, we had 5 furniture pieces that were damaged, including one (a large entertainment center) that couldn't be put back together at all. The restoration guy who came to evaluate the damages said he'd never seen a furniture piece broken so badly. We also had 3 missing boxes. If you've read this far and you're still considering using Hill's, I'm begging you not to. They were our cheapest estimate, but it was not worth the $900 we saved. My grandparents wanted to move to The Villages we called Hills for some pricing since they are in that area of Florida. The girls in the office were supper friendly and helped us figure out what needed to be done from miles away. Now my grandparents are settled and unpacked. We chose this moving company because of their high rating. We were so disappointed. We were moving less than a mile away, but need help with the heavy pieces of furniture. We've only used a mover one other time and that was 10 years ago. So, we're pretty new to this moving arena. First the salesperson talked us out of taking out extra insurance. He told us nobody does that. The movers came and wrapped the furniture and appeared to be doing a good job. They had to take our refrigerator apart to get it out the door, which surprised us. In the process of the move they broke a window in our china cabinet. Once they unloaded the furniture, we found damage to our king size bed, a highboy and a dresser. It looks like the furniture was rubbing back and forth on other pieces of furniture and the finish was removed in several areas. This furniture was only 3 years old and so it was upsetting to see the damage. A week later I discovered one of our twin beds appeared to be incorrectly put together. Upon closer inspection we discovered that the movers either lost the hardware needed to put the bed together or damaged the hardware. In either case. they put some small screws in the frame, just enough to make it look good before they left. Had anyone tried to sleep in the bed, it would have fallen apart on them! Although the window on our china cabinet was fixed quickly, we were unable to get anyone to answer our phone calls concerning the other damage. After numerous phone calls and finally the threat of taking them to court, we were told that we had to fill out a form and someone needed to come and take pictures of the damage. Bottom line, we were sent a small check to fix the highboy. We were told that the dresser would not qualify for any money, as it was not written up before the driver left. No mention was made of the missing/damaged hardware on the twin bed. This has been a nightmare. We now have a small check that won't even cover the cost of getting the highboy fixed. I would NEVER use this company and again. If you choose to use them, take out the extra insurance, no matter what the salesperson tells you. read more

I moved from Central, Florida to Connecticut in November of 2016. Hill's was fantastic! They gave me a firm fair price. The office staff was friendly and everything was well coordinated. They showed up on time and were done quickly. My delivery arrived in Connecticut on time just as promised. Long story short, Hills Van Service dumped a gun safe in my carport because they did not bring the proper equipment to move it and then left it there for 2 nights while I repeatedly called them over that time to get anything done about it. This includes one instance where they promised me a call at the end of the day with an update, I did not hear from them and I called them the next morning only to be told nothing had been done. I had to call a few more times before they finally called the gun safe mover, who responded in a very timely manner. So in short it took them 48hrs to call the gun safe mover while giving me no updates or information. It is also to be noted that I only spoke to the receptionist throughout all this, whoever was in charge of calling the gun safe mover would not talk to me. When the gun safe mover was here moving the safe, he complained to me that he never does residential moves and that Hills had "basically dumped this one on [him]". Had Hills informed themselves on the "conditions" of the houses they were dealing with this would never have happened. Therefore their lack if preparation and disorganization caused this ridiculous situation and an immense amount of frustration and inconvenience for me, their customer. I asked Hills to work with me on the price because of this situation. I wasn't asking for much, just some indication they actually care about their customers after they have taken your hard earned money. Instead I was met with a brick wall. Emails were not returned, I had to repeatedly request for a reply to my email (same way they did not return phone calls and I had to repeatedly contact them when the safe was clogging my carport! Coincidence?). Again, it was all through the receptionist. Christine, their operations manager, finally emailed me herself when it became clear I was persistent, abruptly telling me to go away. I called Mayflower's main # (Hills is affiliated with them) and spoke to Scott who initially seemed understanding and said he would call Christine and tell her to call me to try to resolve this. Instead he called back a bit later, said he had talked to her, and started a snowjob on me. He repeated ready-made lines over and over and did not address the issue. He claimed Christine had told him I had refused to let them come and examine the houses pre-move the houses which is a blatant lie: they never at any point even mentioned having someone come check the houses pre-move, according to Scott it is a routine step (which Hills obviously skipped): had they not skipped this important step the whole situation with the gun safe would not have occurred. When I told Scott they never brought it up he dodged it. He claimed since it was an intrastate move it wasn't really a Mayflower move and then backpedaled on that when I told him a Mayflower truck had been used. Finally when I pressed the question of why Hills never did a pre-move house check Scott snapped at me "I am not arguing with you" and never answered the question. The way Scott and Christine handled this seemed expressly designed to make me, their customer, shut up and go away. There was another small issue with Hill"s billing department overcharging my card and lagging on refunding the difference but I won't get into it for the sake of brevity and it is not the main issue. In short, buyer beware. Hills Van Service & Mayflower is disorganized and do not have good customer service or customer relations. read more

One star is generous for these liars. First, their sales people will say and promise anything to get you to sign a contract; once you sign, none of these promises will be honored. I was told I would be given a delivery date no later than the date my items were loaded (I was moving cross-country for work), and when I asked for this information they not only said they didn't have it, they denied ever promising such a thing. I was expected to "wait for their call" 24 hours prior to delivery for a two-week window. Second, my items were not packed properly, resulting in damage to several expensive (and hard to break) items. The dispatcher only sent the packing team with the exact boxes she thought they would need, meaning that when they needed an extra box they had to improvise (putting a flatscreen tv in a mirror box). They didn't even label the items appropriately because "she didn't put a tv on my list, so don't tell her I packed it. She'll get mad if we do anything that's not on the list." (Never mind that it was her error to leave it off the list...) When they came to load the truck they promptly started using a box marked "fragile" as a "work bench" (their words, not mine) to wrap furniture. I had to ask them not to put heavy furniture on top of my fragile items. Then the company failed to identify a moving truck ahead of time, meaning that my items were shipped using a third-party freight service that broke bookcases and filing cabinets, and when it arrived in my new area nobody had called ahead to tell the local Mayflower affiliate that they would need to schedule a delivery for me. When the delivery did finally arrive, items were mislabeled, not labeled, there were labels without items, boxes marked "fragile" were crushed, and the local team said they had never seen a worse packing and shipping job. These people are cons and crooks, and in retrospect I wouldn't trust them with a box of post-it notes, much less my belongings. read more
