I was so disappointed with this place. I ordered the carnitas chilaquiles and coffee, and they weren't great. Coffee was bitter despite all of whipped cream, chocolate sauce and Oreos. The tortilla chips and carnitas were bland, and the salsa verde was sweet. I definitely did not expect for the sauce to be sweet at all. The only thing I liked were the eggs, but also it's hard to mess up eggs :/ Our server was really nice, food was ready in less than 15min, and music was great! but those were the only highlights about this restaurant. read more

Very colorful restaurant! My friend recommended this place and the food didn't disappoint. You start with chips and salsa. Spicy!! Very small portion for it to be "shareable" don't be shy to ask for more :) Went on a Tuesday and ordered their specials. $5 frozen margs (only) and 6 tacos (chicken or pork) for $12 they were topped off with cilantro and queso fresco. Ask for lime, lime just makes everything 5x better in my opinion. We sat in the back potion of the restaurant. Very spacious and they have an area where you can celebrate a birthday. Bar in the front and some high top tables. Bathroom was clean. I would go back but beware of an older male server. He was not friendly at all. Very dry and not approachable. We came after an exhausting 8.5hr exam and were celebrating but his energy killed our vibe when he came around the table. Maybe he was having a bad day? Location was too crowded and loud. We were surrounded by tables less than 18 inches apart. In top of that the instable high table we were was just like 20in by 20in. From the very beginning we just wanted to eat and leave. The food quality was not as expected and not close to a true mexican or even an US/mexican dinning like On the Border, Chillis or even a local fast food like Taco Maker. Saying is true Mexican food for me its like an insult. We ordered churrasco fajitas at $39 for two.... I know what churrasco look and taste like, we simply had a flavorless chopped biftec (also known as cube steak) in a plate full of onions and green peppers. Honestly wasn't too impressed with this place . For starters the parking in front was valet only which was free of charge but a tip is usually expected and there really wasn't anywhere else to park . The interior of this place was totally not what you would expect from a Mexican restaurant . It was full of bright coloured walls with modern tables and seating . It was just was out of place for a Mexican restaurant . Wasn't crazy about it at all. Service was mediocre . The server was super friendly and for the most part was very attentive . Although she took forever to take our orders in the beginning . It was probably a 15-20 min wait just to take our orders when the entire restaurant was basically empty . As far as the food is concerned we ordered nachos as an appetiser and they were honestly the best part of the meal . Every chip was covered with something and the toppings were great . I thought it was odd that there weren't complementary chips but the free margarita slushie shot made up for it . I ended up ordered the churrasco tacos . The meat was pretty good but the topping were pretty lacking . It was basically a tiny scoop of beans and "guac" (that was far from the real thing) . Then the tortillas were definitely not the typical ones you're supposed to get with tacos . They really felt like a "gringofied" version of tacos . Good thing they weren't pricey . Coming from Mexican food that I eat in California, the food here is no where near authentic and I was pretty disappointing . Excellent authentic Mexican cuisine in the heart of Guaynabo. The food was fabulous, the service superb and the drinks some of the best on the island! The atmosphere is modern and festive at the same time- with flatscreen tvs intermixed with the the best quotes in Spanish (if you speak it you'll laugh, otherwise ask your waiter to translate!: "Im drunk, I forgot you were here, but now I'm seeing you double") Jonas, our waiter, was fantastic and made us feel completely at home. We ordered the nachos with chicken & pork, and I'm very picky about my nachos- I like them all on one chip- and these were PERFECTO! We also had the beef tacos (amazing) and chicken quesadillas (the best) plus a variety of margaritas and beers. Going to Hijole on Cinco de Mayo was a crazy idea. I have to admit, however, that the staff handled the chaotic mob with grace and excellence. Happy hour margaritas are a great deal (before 7 p.m.) and the food was delicious and generous. Burrito tripleta was my very satisfactory choice. The place is a local business, owned by a friendly owner who walks the tables checking on everything. Decor and music should be more Mexican, but fresh food coming from a very clean kitchen - what more can you ask? read more

It is an average place. Don't let the sparkle fool you. Once you are inside, it is reality check time. Service is good and prompt. Quick greet led to our sit down. Then things changed. The food was average; watery chicken, tasteless at the most. Ingredients were hard to find. Everything is extra on an already expensive menu; I mean expensive...example...every chip serving is $1.00 and it comes with about 6 chips...it adds up... We went in at 2 for 1 drinks special. We ordered Margaritas to get a taste for their specialty. It all came down to about 6 to 8oz of a frozen SourMix and ice mixture; no tequila was found anywhere. I know my business, I have been making them for years. At $8.00 the pop, it is hard to get a fuzz... And order (2) of regular soft shell tacos and...that was it for me...the same tasteless chicken (water running all over) and no extras but beans and cheese ( that's $2.99 each thank you). Every addition to the taco was extra to the base price. For a well built taco you could end up forging $4.50; mind you...! Overall, great experience; NOT. Did I mention great service... As a locale for meeting with friends for a few rounds of beers and tequila, the place is ok. The food is acceptable, but certainly not great. Mercifully it is not expensive either. I asked for the flautas with ground chicken. They were served in a fresh, crisp-fried tortilla, with a rather bland and unappealing grey stuffing that the waiter assured me was chicken. I'm still not convinced. A spoonful of slightly dry refried beans on one side, a spoonful of a somewhat messy pico de gallo/ guacamole mix on the other, and a dollop of sour cream on top of the middle (of three) flauta completed the dish. I asked for the spiciest hot sauce of the house, and got something passably hot but inexplicably sweet. I expect any restaurant attempting to pass itself as Mexican to be able to offer some seriously hot stuff at least on demand. This didn't make the grade. My wife asked for the ceviche, which is served with fresh fruit and seems to be marinated in mandarin juice. That was the best dish by far, although again it was short of "really good". Tasty and refreshing, though. Dessert was "cajeta horns", which is essentially just a ball of ice cream surrounded by tortilla chips abundantly covered in brown sugar and cinnamon. The ice cream is supposed to sit on top of cajeta, the Mexican version of dulce de leche. This was doubtlessly the most unfortunate dish, as the tortilla crisps were cloyingly sweet with all that sugar, the ice cream was the cheap kind that tastes like vegetable fat, and the cajeta was missing altogether, having been substituted by regular aupermarket caramel syrup. The ambient was way too loud for my taste: the acoustics of the place are terrible, and there's nothing to absorb the noise of the chatter, added to the music plus the TV's showing some novela stuff that nobody's watching. The staff was friendly and eager to please, but somehow you got the feeling of inefficiency. This is probably more related to the way in which the tasks are assigned than to the attitude of the employees, who really seemed to be trying their best. Altogether, while I cannot say that the experience was downright unpleasant, I don't feel compelled to go back for a second try. read more

Finally went here for brunch with the family and have to say I was pretty impressed even though every time I drive by its full so I guess I should've expected that. The brunch menu has something for everyone and all the dishes have a Mexican twist. I ordered a shrimp omelette as suggested by the waitress (daily special) and ordered it with extra veggies instead of house potatoes and bread (low carb day for me). It was a monster omelette to say the least. Service was a little off (we were waiting on drinks for a while) so that's why I'm not giving a 5 Star rating. Hands down one of the best margaritas that I've tried made with fresh lemon juice and very nice Patron tequila. They Pride themselves of having the freshest Atmos a very margarita. I personally like the ginger Margarita very refreshing and unlike other margarita they don't get you dumb silly drunk just enough to be happy and be able to have a nice dinner and chat with friends and enjoy a really good time. read more

I have visited for brunch a few times recently. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and very comfortable. I have two little kids. The waiters and waitresses have always been great and very patient with them. In terms of the food, I dream of the variety of mimosas and natural juices they have. I simply love the French toast, the queso fundido with guayaba, the eggs Benedict. Everything I have tried in their brunch menu has been delicious. read more

I was inclined on going to this restaurant due to the fact that it's always full. The restaurant looks very nice with its modern decor. But, from what I experienced, looks aren't everything. The service in this restaurant isn't very good. I went for dinner with my girlfriend. When we entered the restaurant we waited to be seated, but we just stood there watching as the employees passed us by not acknowledging our presence. Eventually someone came up to us and asked us where we wanted to be seated. The employee told us that they have two sections: the bar side, which she told us it was louder, and the "less noisy" section on the back side of the restaurant. I told her we wanted the "less noisy" side. Immedietly after being seated I honestly could not notice the difference between the bar side and the "less noisy" section. There was so much noise pollution that I could barely hear my girlfriend who was just two feet in front of me. Our waiter was a young man who didn't seem too happy to be working. For the most part of his service he seemed uninterested and barely came up to our table. As for the food I ordered a swiss burrito filled with steak. The order came in relatively fast and the presentation looked decent. Although, there was nothing too special about that burrito. It was a bit bland and it didn't have enough sauce for my taste. I will say the meat was moist and tender which made it better. But overall I would say it was okay. At least the price was acceptable. I would recommend this restaurant to people who want to go out with a group of friends to drink. The atmosphere is definitely there. But, If you're planning on having a nice quiet dinner, I suggest you look elsewhere. read more
