The gym itself is quite standard, but held a special place in my heart as it is where I began my…read morefitness journey, back when it was Baileys gym before the chain was acquired by chuze. It was never anything spectacular but checked all the necessary boxes. I was an active member here for two years, had plenty of friends there and was friendly with all the other members and staff. Somewhere along the line, an employee, who at the time was asst. manager of the St. Aug location by the name of 'Tristan' developed what I could only describe as a personal vendetta to kick me out of the gym. There was an instance where I was in the cycle room which was completely vacant as it always was posing at around 10pm, and was aggressively approached by two team members who informed me photography was not allowed at all in the gym and was redirected to utilize the locker room for pictures. This came as quite a surprise to me, as using a camera in a locker room/ bathroom is ILLEGAL. I informed them of this, and they quickly reversed course and said no photography anywhere. They said this was a strike against me and after 3 strikes I would be banned from the gym. I said ok and moved on very politely without conflict. I then was informed I received another strike for photography after I took a selfie of myself for Snapchat. I thought this was absolutely absurd. I then began to realize that this woman Tristan had it out for me personally, so I told myself I'm just going to keep my phone in my gym bag so she couldn't possibly claim I was taking pictures inside the gym and made sure to not break any "club" rules. One night, I went to go access the cycling room to do cardio. This was while the gym was undergoing renovations during the transitional phase after the chuze buyout. I swiped my card, tried the door and it was locked still. I tried my card again and it was still locked. Obviously I can to the conclusion that this section of the gym was closed that night and went about my business and left. The next day, I got a call from the gym and heard Tristan's very distinctive voice telling me that a team member had witnessed me attempting to "break into" the cycling room. She also told me that I knew I was not supposed to access that room, despite there being no signs anywhere or any indication whatsoever that it was closed. She was being extremely rude, arguing with me and interrupting me in what I can only describe as the most profoundly rude and abrasive customer service experience I have ever experienced in my entire life. She told me with a ring of satisfaction in her tone that if I attempted to come back to the gym she would be forced to call the sheriffs department. Absolutely unacceptable the way that individual handled the situation. I highly suggest there is an internal review of how staff interacts with members, and an overhaul of the hiring process to prevent unqualified, temperamental, rude and aggressive people like Tristan from having the ability to terminate memberships. After years of this being my second home, my experience was ruined by this person. Other than that the gym is great. Fire her and it would be 10 stars. I also can't wait to see the response from the gym saying she followed all gym policy. Yes I'm sure it would be within gym policy to terminate my membership if I had actually been attempting to break into the cycling room, but I wasn't because I'm not a delinquent.
