I usually don't leave reviews, but our slice of pizza was burnt and very little cheese for $5 per slice. The craft beer I selected was good but was served in warm glass. I don't like warm beer. Brought this to the young girl who said she was the manager. She said they were really busy and she was had no control of the kitchen. We entered the establishment at 4 pm with only 4 vehicles in the parking lot. The table next to us had a full pizza that did not appear to be overcooked. Patrons that ordered a full pizza, left their beer have full on their table. I would not recommend this establishment. read more

Highlander Beer is a cool brewery in Missoula Montana and is right off I-90 near the airport. The tap room is a large space with plenty of seating. The beer selection is extensive with roughly thirteen to choose from. I went with a sampler and all were really good. You can order single slice pizza which is made fresh. The pizza was so so and nothing special. It was a tad hot in the tap room because they were producing a batch of beer that day and the kettle was on. However, we still had a good time and will definitely stop back during a future visit. read more

Ticking another Missoula brewery off my list, Highlander Beer! I got a beer here that I don't get to try too terribly often and that is shandy or radler type beers. I always live this beer type when I have it but it isn't super common to find in breweries, just sometimes I come across it. The Tangerine Squeezer is what Steve and I had and our fondness for this beer type continued. Flavors to keep your tastebuds peeled for are tangerine, sweetness and a dry aftertaste. The beer is very nice and light bodied and very crushable... so it's very easy to have more than one. read more

One of the prettiest views at a brewery in Missoula area, we came here for a tasting and a slice of pizza. It has quite a large inside and wide open outside, with Adirondak chairs outside overlooking the creek. We loved the Montana shaped tasting board and the mini little tasting glasses. It was definitely a family friendly spot with a little kids play area inside and plenty of seating and area to run outside. Beers were pretty good, we loved the amber ones and the one with the Huckleberry flavor. Pizza was decent, nothing fantastic but great when having beer. This brewery was the last of the breweries we went to while in Missoula, and while it was a little further away from downtown, it was definitely worth the visit. Two of us got a flight, and we got a pizza to share. I liked all of the beers - they have a lot of light and refreshing beers, as well as some sours. Not many IPA's which is nice because I feel like some breweries have all hoppy beer. Not this place! The pizza was also a really good Detroit style pie. We sat outside on a nice day. It was very relaxing. There is also a huge indoor space. You order at the front and they bring your food to you. Everyone working was friendly. Don't miss this spot in Missoula! read more

We stopped in for dinner and beer after a day full of travel and had a great experience! It was very busy as there was an event but service was still quick. We did a flight and then a couple pours of the wheat beers and we ate pizza, a small Greek salad, and the Cesar wrap and enjoyed everything. Plus for a large outdoor space for kids. read more

Hey there, It's been a while since I last reviewed. I'm here in Missoula Montana for work and stumbled on this awesome local favorite. I immediately found out why it is. This brewhouse is a MUST for anyone visiting this cool city. Upon arrival I was blown away on the size of this place. The brewhouse and sitting area is huge. After I ordered I realized that the garage doors, to the side opened up to a courtyard 2-3 bigger than the rest of the place. It's awesome for large and small groups. I met 3 pretty amazing employees who guided me through their menu & ordering process. This is not a Michelin restaurant, but the pizza is so.damn.close to Gourmet. I am not a fan of BBQ on my pizza, but I gave it a try. I was not disappointed. I was surprised by how good it was. I also had cheesesticks. Pretty delic. I saved the best for last, beer. They have at least 12 different beers on tap. Since this is my first go, I have not had them all (I will before I leave!), but the 2 I did have were amazing. All in all, this local pub should receive 5s. It's my first time and it wouldn't be fair to anyone to drop a 5ver. I will be back and my rating is probably gonna change. If this were a pizza joint and not a brewery, it would get six stars. Alas, the beers were what we were there for and they were only okay. The pizza though...good grief. We really wanted the Detroit-style, because we love the style and it's impossible to find at home, but we also wanted to try their New York-style pie, so we got an additional slice. The slice on its own was huge and the Detroit-style was entirely too much for the two of us, so we took the rest on the road (and promptly left it in the hotel fridge when we checked out in the morning--oops!). Both styles of pizza were flavorful, the crusts were perfect, the cheese and other toppings applied in excellent proportion. All around some of the best Detroit- or New York-style pizza we've had in a while. Portions are incredibly generous and the price is more than fair. (Note: If you're from out of state, be aware that, due to peculiarities of Montana law, you can only have a maximum of three beers at any one brewery on any one day. The food was just alright, certainly wouldn't be a draw just for that. I thought that their Tangerine Squeezer was pretty good, looked for it in cans at the store afterward and was glad to have found it. Being able to enjoy a meal and a drink outside was the best part of the place! read more

After a 5 hour drive up from Challis, Idaho I needed a beer and a bite. So here I am at Highlander Beer, brewery #158 for me. HB is a really cool place. Huge tasting room with a large patio area, and Adirondack chairs next to the stream that practically runs through it. There might be a movie reference in there somewhere. The Strawberry Wheat had great strawberry aroma and flavor with no bitterness at all. Strange Haze IPA had no discernible haze to it but but was a nice drinkable IPA. I might have another! The Devils Hump red ale is a really smooth red ale. Just what you would expect, no surprises and no off-flavors. HB is 3 for 3 with me so far. SWPFTD of course went with the red and agreed it was very well done. Porch Swing Porter is another win. Just what you want from a porter. Smooth, roasty, chocolate. All the beers I tried were really good but I decided to revisit the strawberry hef. The decor is cool, the staff is friendly and attentive, and overall HB is a big win. That's five stars from me. Have only visited during COVID, but Highlander Brewery is incredible. With an ideal location and purpose-built building, they get just about everything right. Enter through the front doors, the brewery equipment is to the right, and a large open, high-ceilinged dining area is on the right. Directly in front of you is the bar and merchandise store (very cool merchandise, by the way). Beyond the dining area is an outdoor patio that sits next to a tree-lined creek. The food is simple, but you can try multiple items since the price is low, and pizza is sold by the slice. Their beers are incredible, and they have several lighter beers along with the mandatory IPAs, etc. One of my favorite places in Missoula, and there are many great bars/breweries in Missoula. Get off the plane and head over here. You need a relaxing beer after your flight and it's so close to the airport. Once you get here, you'd hardly known your near the airport with such a peaceful outdoor area. The beers are fun and cover a good range. Not the best I've ever had but all respectable. This is one of the more awesome breweries I have been too. The beer is good and there are lots of choices but the atmosphere is what makes it! There is an out door area that also has a babbling brook. There is out door eating area, taco truck, corn hole, little path. Inside there is ample seating a kids play area and a little store with cool swag! The pizza and s amazing and you can buy it by the slice, we also got a salad which was good... we came here twice in two days. The second time we had about 3 hours to kill before our plane ride home. When Highlander first opened I was a little suspicious that they just bought the name. The first year I stopped several times but the beers were a little too 'foo-foo' for my taste. However, we started stopping by last year and now it is our go-to stop heading out of Missoula. They have a number of good, traditional beers (pilsner, IPAs, pale ales...in other words no mangos, raspberry or watermelon), and coupled with a slice of their great pizzas makes this a wonderful stop for refreshments. read more

The beer Red Hump was good along with the on going conversation. The place had a steady stream of people coming in. After the Red Ale had to try the Craggy Scotch Ale which was also tasty. We were looking forward to another visit at this establishment, and drove 3 hours to get here. Upon arrival, we found that the outdoor seating was not pet friendly. With temperatures over 80, we would not dream of leaving our dog in the car. Sad, but maybe that policy should be revised.
