I was in Missoula for a few days for a work conference. After checking into my hotel, I walked towards the downtown area to explore and grab a bite to eat. Being hungry and not wanting to wait, I stopped into Front Street Pizza for a quick slice. I chose the Gabriella which is sausage and meatball on an olive oil base and a garlic knot. The pizza was warmed up quickly and I sat outside to eat and enjoy the beautiful weather. The pizza was great - I really enjoyed it. The slice wasn't too heavy and there was a nice little kick of spice from the sausage. The crust was thin but still had some chew to it which I love. The garlic knot was okay - it could have maybe been baked a little bit longer because I felt the inside was a tad doughy. Very good pizza. When we went there was no one in the lobby so we were able to walk right up to the counter. We got the pepperoni and sausage and the white with sausage. Everything is in the display case, you select what you want and they put it in the oven to finish cooking and crisp up. The bread had a nice chew, the crust was crispy and the topping were tasty. I don't normally write reviews, but felt based on what I saw it was warranted. First, the pizza was ok. The crust was pretty good, but the sauce was tasteless which left the pizza itself just average. The problem wasn't so much with the pizza, it was the cross contamination of the young guys working behind the counter. They none wore gloves and were constantly running their hands through their hair and scratching their heads and then touching food. Specifically the young guy making the pizzas; he non-stop scratched his head and face and then played with his phone and touched his clothes... and then made the pizza--disgusting!! So. I was born and raised in New Jersey, and then spent 10 years of adulthood there as well - which means I've had 30+ years of experience eating some friggin' incredible pizza and Italian regional cuisines in NJ and NY. I'm giving this place 5 stars for Missoula, because ratings are - to an extent - relative to a location, and I want other people to be able to find it. If it were located in NJ or NY, it would be more like a 3.75 or 4. This is the first and ONLY pizza I've had in Missoula that resembles a proper east coast pie. So while it's nowhere near the *best* pizza you'll ever get in NJ or NY, it's definitely a SOLID pizza that you'd get from a solid place in either location. Now, to test things out, we specifically ordered takeout: a full, freshly-made Margherita pizza, along with a house salad and garlic knots. The pizza crust was really thin and flavorful, (though maybe slightly underbaked - I'd prefer it a bit crispy, even burnt, east-coast style; that would've led to perfection), the fresh mozzarella was tasty, the crushed tomato sauce spot on and the amount of basil was just right. The stewed tomato flavors were reminiscent of the tomato pie style pizza so ubiquitous in central and south NJ and Philly, even though this wasn't a tomato pie. The garlic knots were also really tasty, oozing with garlic and olive oil, just like east coast knots. And the salad wasn't anything spectacular, but was fresh and crisp and hit the spot. We haven't tried other slices and things, so I don't know how we'll feel about other options here, but I always order a margherita pizza (or the most similar pie) to get a sense of a place's foundational take on pizza. So far every other pizza place in town has fallen completely flat on that front, seeming to largely treat pizza as a bread-based vehicle for cheese and toppings, rather than a whole concept. Happy this place exists, and curious to try other options in the future. read more

I know these are fighting words, but I'm going to say it anyway: this is the best pizza in Missoula. It's straightforward and simple, and done precisely the way it should be. No exotic toppings, no weird crust or sauce options....just amazing pizza. My only caution is don't get an individual slice and pass judgement on this place. I have never and will never understand why people love this place so much. The pizza is dry/stale (not enough sauce if any at all), but also super greasy. It's easy to just drop in and grab a slice when you're wandering around downtown drunk and I am convinced that no one has eaten their pizza sober. VERY impressed with how good the pizza is at Front Street Pizza. First tried a slice while downtown after it had recently opened. Thought it was good enough to order a whole pizza a couple of weeks later. I REALLY liked the dough. The pizza was huge, well worth the price. Was in Missoula for a few days and stumbled across Front Street Pizza. Had a chance to try a bunch of the offerings. Ate many slices (I LOVE pizza), and will say the crust is perfect, sauce is delicious, and always just the right balance of cheese and toppings. All top of the line ingredients. Cooked perfectly. You can tell that the tomatoes in the sauce, flour in the crust, and meats and veggies were very high quality. Had slices, and took a pie with me. Pizza later, and the next day, was just as good and crust was still perfect (you know how some times crust can get tough?). Classic real deal NY style pizza. Also had some really good knots (I think that is what they are called), and an AMAZING chocolate brownie. It was huge and I ate it all. Value for the food was great (I live in the Seattle area and we get good pizza for more $, but this was better value AND better pizza). Everything was made from scratch, food was all great, staff was well trained and the place looks cool. I HIGHLY recommend Front Street Pizza! PS- Last time I went through Missoula I tried this other pizza place (Big or Biggie I think). It was pretty solid, but IMO it is not even in the same ballpark as Front Street. read more
