We visited this past Saturday, Valentine's Day, expecting to enjoy some pub food and a beer on our way to a local event. We arrived at 4:30- well before the expected holiday rush. Uh oh!! No more pub type menu. Not just for Valentine's Day- but forever. It's over. So, that leaves you with dinner plate options ranging from $30 to $45. I had the shrimp Thai noodles and my husband had the mushroom risotto - which were the lower priced items on the menu. (We wanted simple fair, not a $45 plate, and did our best to pivot). The noodles were okay. The risotto was overly salty and looked as though it had sat under the heat light for a long time. Yikes. The friend we dined with ordered Chicken Parm. "Just okay" was the assessment. The meals all came with a small salad. Our server was great and the lodge is lovely but we went for the food. And it let us all down. A bowl of noodles. A bowl of rice. Two beers: $120.00. We won't be going back. Such a shame.

We asked if they could take us which they obviously could since there were many empty tables! We had just gone through Oquossic restaurants and all had an average of 45-90 minutes to wait! We were heading back to Rangeley when my father mentioned the Inn. The atmosphere is old fashioned rustic and the dining room is classy with linen table clothes and napkins and oil lamps on the tables for lighting. The building has a musty odor going downstairs for the bathrooms and Inn rooms. Dark paneling lines the hallways and the ladies room has a "powdering" area which you don't see very often. A great country club atmosphere over all. Only down part was on that at the end of an 80 degree day they had no AC! I do have to say though that although I wasn't refreshed by cold air, the fans and opened doorway did help. We all felt relaxed and happy we came here opposed to the hectic and very busy other places we had been. We ordered our drinks and looked over the menu. There were a few appetizers, several entree's, and only one dessert listed on the evenings specials list. We ordered the special Lobster Rosetto, Veal piccata, and the Alaskan Sockeye Salmon. The lobster was wonderful, creamy texture and plenty of lobster. The veal was very good, clean plates. The Salmon was dry and not very hot. Black beans that accompanied were ok but didn't like with the Salmon. We enjoyed the rum bread pudding dessert special at the end of our meal. Sue was our waitress and thought she was fast, friendly, and professional in helping us with our meal.

The Inn was built in 1909 by Thomas Edison. Yes that Thomas Edison, the one who invented the lightbulb. The Inn has so much character it's pure eye candy for those who appreciate the fine craftsmanship of classic furniture, decor and interior design. We stayed in the Thomas Jefferson room, the biggest room with a king size bed and infamously know to have housed Joe DiMaggio and Marylyn Monroe back in the day. This quaint bed and breakfast is beautifully furnished and kept immaculate. It is obvious Bobby takes pride in maintaining the house and making his guests feel welcome. Bobby, Paul (Paul runs the Barn, a hiker's hostel which is definitely worth checking out as well), and their dog Marley did everything they could to make my stay wonderful. If you are looking for a place to stay in the North Country, forego the other hotels along Main Street and stop into The Libby House (Libby House probably has better rates too).
