I had used Highland in 2018 when foundation issues were suspected. The engineer came out, provided the report and there were no issues with my experience. May 2025 comes along with more suspected foundation issues. Matt came out and was friendly, professional and seemed very knowledgeable. Fee was what I was quoted and was paid that day. It is now July 2025 and I have never received my report. I've emailed and texted. I've actually spoken to him twice and was assured my report was forthcoming. The last time I heard from him he said he was returning my fee, which he actually did. Still no report. I'm disappointed in Matt. I expected better. I don't know what's going on, but I'm assuming this company is in trouble. Sad. read more

Highland is a mixed bag... you don't know what you'll get. The first time I called Matt was in 2016 before I bought my house. The experience was great: he was responsive, did a thorough job, and report provided. Fast forward to January 2023 when he came back out to the same house.... It's been a year and a half and I still have not received my report after his visit on 1/4/23. He totally fell off the planet and never responded to my emails or calls for the report. Eventually I gave up. Fast forward to July 2024. I attempt again and actually get a text and a call back from Matt. I requested my report from Jan 2023. He said I'll have it by that evening. Not surprised to say I never received it and he has ghosted me again with no replies to my texts and calls. I must assume he never did one after his visit. I found this company using Yelp. I have sinking foundation and cracks in the exterior and interior of my house. I needed a professional assessment of my foundation in order to know how to fix it. Highland was highly recommended on yelp so I went with them based on their reviews. I have a graduate degree in Construction Science and Minor in Architecture, so i'm not unfamiliar with foundations, and construction and issues with houses, but by no means an expert engineer nor a foundation expert. But I do have extensive experience with contractors, engineers, and home builders. I was thoroughly impressed with this company and their professionalism from the very start. They are clean cut, professional, and organized. They are responsive to customers needs, and thoughtful and knowledgeable to all questions that I had. They do a thorough job, and would highly recommend them for any service that they provide (especially foundation inspections). They put together a great plan for my house to install piers, and worked with me extensively on issues and questions throughout the process. 5 stars. Matt (the owner) personally visited my house multiple times to review issues as they came up during this process showing a dedication to his company and his customers that you rarely see in this business. Efficient - Professional - Knowledgeable We had a great experience with Matt. I called Highland Engineering and left a message and they called me back within an hour to schedule an appointment. Matt did an amazing job and after getting a structural engineering report on the house we were planning to purchase, we ended up deciding to pull out on the purchase due to lots of foundation issues that Matt was able to inform us on! 3 weeks later we found aother house we wanted to buy and of course we reached out to Matt again. I hired this company for the inspection few years ago. But the home need further reinforcements. Contacted this company in many ways and countless of calls and text messages for over a month. No one answered the phone. The owner Mathew replied to me once and said he was looking at the plans at one point. But no one ever call back and further reply. At this point, not sure this company is still in business at all. No follow up no customer service and no professionalism. I would never hire this kind of company with no follow up customer service. Even after the repair is done. And 2nd inspection is still required! They should at least give customer some feedback! read more

I got my foundation Inspected through this company in 2018 when we bought our home and had a great experience with them. I realized we needed to do the follow up inspection for the foundation and decided to go through them again. Matt was able to come by the next day to do my inspection. He was really nice and thorough. The only thing I did not like was how long it took for me to get the report. I was initially advised I would be getting it the next day. I would call and was told I will get it to you soon but I didn't. Ultimately it took over three weeks and many calls for me to get it. I understand people are busy but if that's the case then better communication and factual ETAs should be provided. read more

Matt (the PE) came out at the beginning of August 2019 to evaluate some cracks that had appeared in the ceiling of our master bedroom. He told me the cost would be $450 for a home with our square footage. When he arrived, my wife was home and he went about his inspection. Very friendly and seemingly professional. For some reason he ended up using my latter and left it in the master closet underneath the attic access panel. The access panel was also left open instead of being replaced appropriately. None of this was a big deal at the time and our invoice ended up being discounted to $425--I assume for the inconvenience. He called me after the inspection to give me a verbal report and it sounded reasonable. Fast forward almost 2.5 months and I've called the office at least 5 times to get a copy of the actual structural report for my home, still without any luck. Initially I was very happy with this company, but I'm still waiting for the report that I paid for a more than 2 months ago. Will update accordingly if anything changes. read more

Since then I have called at least 10 times looking for my report for my insurance company, liteof empty promises and 4 months late NOTHING. Never paid is the only good news. I reached out to them right before closing on my home (around the holidays) and after some confusion about where the report was sent-I lost my temper. I was under a lot of pressure and spending money right and left-so I felt like everyone was out to take advantage of me. How did Highland respond to my crappy attitude? With professionalism and unheard of kindness. Like, super kind and professional. The foundation repair company (MBR) never returned calls and failed on many fronts (and I was nice to them) but Highland was surreal. I am looking back over messages now and am so ashamed. Not only did they deliver an excellent report but they went above and beyond with suggestions and ideas to negotiate with the foundation repair folks. This review is late because I am just now able to sit back and reflect on the whole home buying process. I love our home and look forward to working with Highland to get some needed work completed! read more

We contacted Highland after reading their great reviews. The called us right away and came out and performed the inspection within 3 days of us calling, which was great! Our inspection went well. We were given a verbal recommendation as to what the report would suggest. After initially being concerned about not getting returned phone calls Matt contacted us to explain, which we appreciate. I've had Highland Engineering inspect two houses prior to purchase (and ended up backing out of the first after the inspection by Highland). I feel like they're very honest and don't make recommendations for repairs that aren't warranted. No concerns at all about these guys, and will definitely use them again in the future. read more

This company is fantastic. My realtor knew we were on a time crunch to close and they were immediately responsive and available. The report was thorough and provided a wealth of information which assisted us as well as our lender. When our lender required some additional work to be completed for approval, they were able to provide a supplemental report to show the lender the work which was recommended had been completed and didn't charge us anything additional. I can't say enough good words about this company. Fast, responsive, accurate and thoughtful. They aren't the big corporations who only see a number, they are the ones who see you as a person. Utilized the Highland Engineering team to do a home inspections and foundation level analysis on a home that we were contracted on. The team was prompt, efficient, and thorough. When 100's of thousands of dollars are at-stake, you want to perform your due diligence. The team @ Highland found a -5 inch slope at one corner of the house which indicated significant foundation work needing to be done. The home had previous foundation work done, but the company was not reputable and wound up out-of-business. Therefore, the foundation warranty was worthless. They kept us from getting into a home that would cause us multiple headaches. I recommend their services and urge any potential home-buyer to not be cavalier in their investment. I ordered a home inspection from Highland Engineering. Had I known about the structural engineering services at the time, I would have used them as well. Steve Monroe, the home inspector, was very professional and could answer a lot of questions. He delivered a very thorough report to me within 3 days as stated, and I was able to use the information in further negotiations regarding the home I purchased. Highland engineering has assisted me with assessing three foundations for possible investor properties in the last month. Two of the properties had slab foundations while the other was pier and beam. With the slab foundations, Matt helped me realize that I was underestimating the cost to repair the foundation. I decided to pass on that property based on its current price. On the other slab foundation, a short sale, we reviewed the foundation bid and assessment provided by the lender. After visiting the property together and developing a plan to fix the foundation, it gave me the confidence that I would be able to purchase this property, fix the foundation properly, and profit after remodeling the home. Finally with the pier and beam foundation, I had received a bid from a foundation repair company for $6k after they went into the crawlspace. I shared this information with Matt, and we decided to visit the property together to make sense of their proposal. Matt and I went into the crawlspace, and he explained to me what exactly needed to be done (and more importantly what wouldn't need to be done). The $6k "bid" will now only be $1.5k, and Matt directed the foundation company what they will be repairing. I look forward to working with Highland in the future to profit from properties with foundation repairs and avoid costly mistakes from not properly assessing the condition of a home's foundation.
