I liked it so much the first day, I came back a second day. My first time, I had a delicious seasonal macadamia nut latte. It was really good, but I am a sucker for macadamia nut. When I came back another day, I had a seasonal latte that was called "merica" or something--with white chocolate, raspberry, and blueberry. This might have been my favorite coffee shop the whole trip. Settled on the edge of downtown Golden up on a hill, you get beautiful views of the mountains above and the town below. The coffee selection is unique and my latte was delicious! Really flavorful without being overpoweringly sweet. The guy working inside gave great recommendations and was really fun to talk to. Crazy busy but handled it with grace. Came here after yoga and unknown to us there was a Christmas parade downtown so there was an enormous line. The barista had a cheery attitude and in the time it took him to check us out his coworkers 'the people behind the curtain' had already made our drinks. We both got some of their seasonal drinks, sweater weather latte - Lavender and Cardamon, and a pumpkin pie chai. Both were delicious and had balanced but noticeable flavors. I always love stopping in Higher Grounds while in Golden! Close to both downtown and the Mines Campus, and a convenient stop if you're staying at the Table Mountain Inn. There's seating outdoors on the deck, and plenty of tables inside for colder months. The employees are always so friendly, and I love the one barista who always jokes with customers - he's great! I love their coffee and the seasonal flavors they have on the menu. I always enjoy getting their latte with oat milk. I ordered the cheese danish which I really enjoyed, and in the past I've tried their bagels which I also liked a lot. This is a great little place if you want to study, read a book, get together with a friend or two, or just grab a coffee to go. Adorable coffee shop in the downtown of Golden Colorado. I could see the mountains from higher grounds patio seating. I tried the bagel breakfast sandwich, it was fantastic. I was able to choose my own bagel which was fun. I ended up getting my favorite, Asiago cheese! All breakfast sandwich bagels seem to be made upon order but it wasn't a long wait at all. The sandwich was very good and had lots of egg bacon and cheese. I Was able to pick my own bagel for the sandwich and I went with the Asiago. The bagel was very soft and good. The baristas were both very friendly and able to help guide us to their favorite items on the menu. They had cute reusable cups and dishes for eating in. Not worth a stop if exploring downtown Golden and looking for a non-caffeinated drink. I stopped in at Higher Grounds around 1-2 p.m. on a Friday in mid-July with four other guests. One barista as working (who I'm assuming is the owner) and there was only one customer inside. I ordered an iced chai latte and snagged a Gatorade from a fridge of pre-packaged drinks. My order was about $7. The iced chai latte, made with Sherpa Chai, was very milked-down. There wasn't much flavor at all. No good. Other members in my group ordered iced coffees/lattes and described them as "satisfactory." Though I didn't enjoy my drink, all of our drinks were made so quickly, as we were standing at the counter. It's your typical coffee shop. It gets very packed in there, and there may not be indoor seating available. They do have a nice patio, but obviously this can only be enjoyed in fair weather. I had a tiramisu latte. It wasn't bad, but didn't knock my socks off. The coffee wasn't over roasted and the latte wasn't overly sweet, but it didn't really capture the creamy espresso essence of tiramisu. It just tasted like your average latte. This is a no-frills type of place, though, so it's to be expected. I would come back and work on the patio on a nice day. read more

A quick 'coffee' search led me to Higher Grounds, and I'm really glad it did! When you walk into Higher Grounds you instantly feel like you belong. It has an excellent ambiance that is warm and welcoming. Jeff and Jay were taking care of things behind the counter, and were a real delight. A quick exchange of my likes/dislikes allowed for some wonderful recommendations from Jay, which ended up being a Cortado with the Vegetarian Burrito. They were also quite helpful in sharing a few other local shops to check out while in Golden. I have really enjoyed the small town feel of Golden, and the businesses willingness to support each other. Go check out Higher Grounds Cafe next time you're in Golden. When visiting Golden, I knew we had to stop by Higher Grounds Cafe. It's become a tradition for me. After a nice walk by the river, my husband and I walked down Washington to have an afternoon pick me up. We pursued the seasonal menu and both decided we had to try one. I ordered the Pumpkin Spice Chai (hot) and my husband ordered a Salted Carmel Marshmallow Latte. We headed outside to savor our drinks on the deck which overlooks Washington. I absolutely loved my Chai. I wasn't sure how the pumpkin would go with the Chai flavors but it was perfect. My husband was equally pleased with his latte. The Higher Grounds Cafe isn't fancy and shows a little wear around the edges but that's just a testament to is popularity. It was crowded with students studying on this particular afternoon. I always make it a point when in Golden to visit at least once if not more. I'll be back next time. read more
