Not only is the coffee one of the best I've tasted so far, but the staff is so kind to me! Lately this summer, I've been ordering ahead and having a matcha with honey. After a couple times, I walked in and the man said with a warm smile "I thought it was you again!" It's a nice cosy quiet coffee place, but there's enough customers regularly I can tell it's one of those golden hot spots. I popped into the cafe for a cappuccino and breakfast. I ordered at the counter and found a seat after. The barista was super friendly and brought my order out to my table. The vibe inside is cozy- as is the surrounding town. The cappuccino was foamy and delicious and the bagel was tasty. Overall, a good value for the price I paid. read more

Very nice coffee shop in downtown Golden. Freshly brewed coffee was delicious, hot and flavorful. Staff was friendly, helpful and efficient, plus funny with insightful quips about everything. WiFi available as it was evident that this can be a great work place. Cool vibe, great looking pastries. Worth a visit for a good cup of coffee and a great way to start any day. I liked it so much the first day, I came back a second day. My first time, I had a delicious seasonal macadamia nut latte. It was really good, but I am a sucker for macadamia nut. When I came back another day, I had a seasonal latte that was called "merica" or something--with white chocolate, raspberry, and blueberry. This might have been my favorite coffee shop the whole trip. Settled on the edge of downtown Golden up on a hill, you get beautiful views of the mountains above and the town below. The coffee selection is unique and my latte was delicious! Really flavorful without being overpoweringly sweet. The guy working inside gave great recommendations and was really fun to talk to. He directed us to some other really good eateries and drinkeries in town. The food selection is quite limited but the coffee and the views were right up our alley. read more

Crazy busy but handled it with grace. Came here after yoga and unknown to us there was a Christmas parade downtown so there was an enormous line. The barista had a cheery attitude and in the time it took him to check us out his coworkers 'the people behind the curtain' had already made our drinks. We both got some of their seasonal drinks, sweater weather latte - Lavender and Cardamon, and a pumpkin pie chai. Both were delicious and had balanced but noticeable flavors. I have come here many times before and it's never been so busy but there is often a warm buzz of activity. The ambiance is cozy and local. read more

A cozy downtown vibe with an incredible view of the mountains from the outside deck area. We enjoyed a morning stop here before walking around Golden. The vanilla latte was excellent but could have been 5-10 degrees hotter. Next time I will ask for extra hot. The iced coffee was skillfully prepared but became watery over time. I always love stopping in Higher Grounds while in Golden! Close to both downtown and the Mines Campus, and a convenient stop if you're staying at the Table Mountain Inn. There's seating outdoors on the deck, and plenty of tables inside for colder months. The employees are always so friendly, and I love the one barista who always jokes with customers - he's great! I love their coffee and the seasonal flavors they have on the menu. I always enjoy getting their latte with oat milk. I ordered the cheese danish which I really enjoyed, and in the past I've tried their bagels which I also liked a lot. This is a great little place if you want to study, read a book, get together with a friend or two, or just grab a coffee to go. Cute cafe with some nice seating inside. Was pretty crowded on a Saturday morning. I had the spicy chai. I love how they use mismatched cute mugs. The chai was not spicy. Adorable coffee shop in the downtown of Golden Colorado. I could see the mountains from higher grounds patio seating. I tried the bagel breakfast sandwich, it was fantastic. I was able to choose my own bagel which was fun. I ended up getting my favorite, Asiago cheese! All breakfast sandwich bagels seem to be made upon order but it wasn't a long wait at all. I also loved to see this coffee cafe using reusable cups since we stayed in house to eat. Definitely go check this place out if you are in the area. read more

Cute coffee house in Golden. I stopped by for some coffee and breakfast and was not disappointed. I tried the Breakfast sandwich and a mocha iced coffee. The sandwich was very good and had lots of egg bacon and cheese. I Was able to pick my own bagel for the sandwich and I went with the Asiago. The bagel was very soft and good. The baristas were both very friendly and able to help guide us to their favorite items on the menu. They had cute reusable cups and dishes for eating in. Stopped by after the Coors Light Brewery, desperate for a good coffee. I go to a lot of local shops, and the line out the door gave me hope--but wow, this was bad. One barista running the whole place, and all three of our drinks (two lattes and a hot coffee) were terrible. No clue how it has 4.5 stars. I rarely post negative reviews or complain, but the reviews were super misleading. I ended up throwing out my coffee. If you love coffee, skip this place--Starbucks or even Dunkin would be better. read more

It's your typical coffee shop. It gets very packed in there, and there may not be indoor seating available. They do have a nice patio, but obviously this can only be enjoyed in fair weather. I had a tiramisu latte. It wasn't bad, but didn't knock my socks off. The coffee wasn't over roasted and the latte wasn't overly sweet, but it didn't really capture the creamy espresso essence of tiramisu. It just tasted like your average latte. This is a no-frills type of place, though, so it's to be expected. I would come back and work on the patio on a nice day. read more

Not worth a stop if exploring downtown Golden and looking for a non-caffeinated drink. I stopped in at Higher Grounds around 1-2 p.m. on a Friday in mid-July with four other guests. One barista as working (who I'm assuming is the owner) and there was only one customer inside. I ordered an iced chai latte and snagged a Gatorade from a fridge of pre-packaged drinks. My order was about $7. The iced chai latte, made with Sherpa Chai, was very milked-down. There wasn't much flavor at all. No good. Other members in my group ordered iced coffees/lattes and described them as "satisfactory." Though I didn't enjoy my drink, all of our drinks were made so quickly, as we were standing at the counter. Though empty, the coffee shop's interior was very quaint and cozy. read more

4.5 stars. Fantastic place to camp out and get hours of work done. Lots of electrical outlets and fast Wi-Fi connection. My friend and I claimed a table one Sunday, enjoying the various pastry and prepared hot food options. We started with Turkish coffee and chocolate zucchini bread. SOOO good. Later for lunch, I got a beef potato burrito. Staff is super hard-working and it positively contributed to the hustle of my workday. A quick 'coffee' search led me to Higher Grounds, and I'm really glad it did! When you walk into Higher Grounds you instantly feel like you belong. It has an excellent ambiance that is warm and welcoming. Jeff and Jay were taking care of things behind the counter, and were a real delight. A quick exchange of my likes/dislikes allowed for some wonderful recommendations from Jay, which ended up being a Cortado with the Vegetarian Burrito. They were also quite helpful in sharing a few other local shops to check out while in Golden. I have really enjoyed the small town feel of Golden, and the businesses willingness to support each other. Go check out Higher Grounds Cafe next time you're in Golden.
