This afternoon, my friend and I came across Sunrise Cafe during the grand re-opening festival of…read moreOttawa Street. The cafe is located on the corner of Ottawa Street and Moy Avenue. What drew our attention was their signs advertising their BLT special, breakfast special, and a few others for very cheap. The seating area is an L shape with one square table to fit four, about 4-5 tables for two, and a sitting bar area that faces the entire cooking area (to let you watch.) The bar area and floor reminds me of the 1940's. Their menus are amazingly inexpensive! We ordered their breakfast special for $3.99 ($4.50 after tax) that came with two eggs (any style), home fries, sausage/bacon/or ham, and two slices of either white or whole wheat toast. My friend had her eggs sunny side up, home fries, bacon, and whole wheat toast. I had scrambled, home fries, sausage, and whole wheat toast. The man accidentally mixed up our orders but it's okay! We just switched plates and meats and we were good! We absolutely enjoyed our meals! I haven't had breakfast food in awhile and I usually judge a place based on its home fries. They were good! They weren't excessively salty, had enough spice, and weren't mushy. The sausages were standard. My eggs came out looking like how I fry my eggs at home (I whisk the whites and yolk together and let it completely cook). I didn't mind though because they were good! I was very pleased that they didn't add any milk or butter to the eggs because it's extremely fattening. My whole wheat toast was cut diagonally into triangles and lightly toasted with butter. I don't usually like toast with my breakfast because it's too filling but I actually gobbled up my entire meal. Hands down better than The Lumberjack (over there it's pricier, their home fries suck, their toast is too much, and their food is too heavy especially for a breakfast meal, but hey whatever floats your boat.) Definitely coming back here! Plus the cafe is owned by a Chinese Mandarin couple whose English is fine and who are very nice!

Homemade, pleasant, and a good price. I highly recommend this place for breakfast or brunch. I'll…read moredefinitely be back soon.

Visited this airy, bright, and unassuming space with a friend the other day for study group. I was…read morehesitant at first for whatever reason, like it felt pompous or something with no signage -- I was pleasantly surprised. The food and drink were delicious. The menu is minimal but mighty. I felt genuinely nourished after a vanilla bean latte, parfait, biscuit (Red Lobster-esque cheddar biscuits) / egg sandwich, and greens salad. The eggs were expertly fluffed how I like them. My friend had the lentil soup along with a tofu scramble on focaccia. We ate it all! The espresso was strong, you get real silverware and clayware/bowls. Wow! I was taken aback. And for what you're getting, the prices aren't all too bad. They could definitely be higher (don't make them higher ) I encourage any coffee shop loiterer, vegan/vegetarian, or city dweller, student, etc -- to try this spot. There are a wide variety of books in the room connected to the dining area, with book shelves filled with zines and art pieces. Also a stage? What goes on in here!? Keep up the amazing work, this is a great addition to my favorites!

I got an iced cardamom chai and it was super yummy! Had the right combination of creaminess and earthiness. The space also connects to People's Records, which is always a treat to visit. One thing I must say is that menu items are a bit limited, but the space is more than enough to keep me coming back.
