We are not local to this establishment but I have to give a review!! We are visiting and were given High Five as a recommendation for good local coffee. When we first came in it was very peaceful and laid back, I am unfamiliar with coffee so I wasn't sure what to order and the person taking our order was very nice and helpful. They told me what was the most popular and I could see why! The coffee is amazing!!! I had my family with me, husband and 2 children, my younger son always wants coffee so I asked them to make something for him and he loved it! He was ready to go and wanted to carry his own coffee but on the way out he dropped it and lost his marbles over it. I told him we would get another one and then a very polite man came and asked what he had and would get it for us, my husband refused his offer but he insisted, come to find out it was the owner! He has his coffee remade and it just left me completely in awe, simple small gestures like this are so wholesome to me. We couldn't be more thankful to you sir! Stopped by High Five Coffee and ordered the golden tea turmeric latte. It had a nice warming spice to it and a good turmeric kick that made it feel comforting and flavorful. I did feel like it was missing a deeper cardamom note that could have rounded out the spice profile a bit more. That said, at around $4 it's hard to complain. It's a solid, affordable drink and a nice option if you want something warm and a little different from the usual coffee order. read more

There are not many coffee shops open at 7 AM in Asheville on a Sunday. We were hitting the road earlier so this was one of the top rated in the area so we came here. They use counterculture coffee beans, which are from Durham, North Carolina. I've used these coffee beans in my own coffee before and it's always pretty good. I got a cold brew and I didn't need to add anything to it. It was perfect. My husband got a dirty chai latte and the chai is really good. They also sell their own chai spice mix. For solid coffee this is the place to go. They also have very cute sweatshirts and I did indulge. read more

We stopped here on a random Wednesday around 3:00 for coffee and a quick bite! We shared an everything bagel with lox. We were pleasantly surprised when the cream cheese came out already mixed with the capers and onions, as it was delicious and much less messy than a typical lox bagel. We also got a dirty chai latte and a matcha latte, both were delicious. The matcha was noticeably high quality, which was an unexpected treat, and neither drink was over sweetened, which was also very nice. Overall, definitely worth a visit! read more

This little place is tucked inside of a business building. And let me tell you! Their Italian style coffee is so good I even went up for a second cappuccino. They had 2 guys working, one taking orders and the other making them. A great system and they pumped those orders out fast. Very busy place but smooth service. Underwhelming ( and pricey) experience. Unenthusiastic staff. Had a bagel cream cheese and lox. Only one choice of bagels, which was an everything bagel and there was only enough cream cheese to cover half the bagel. My partner had a biscuit and sausage. It was some type of square bread but not a biscuit. Using their bathroom was a fiasco. Unlock the door, walk 3 ft to rehang the key and the door is locked again. Nothing but great things to say about High Five! Great coffee and even better customer service! The place is very relaxing and quaint even with a screaming baby currently behind me as I sit down to drink my oatmeal Cortado to write this review. Nothing, not even a screaming baby, could shake the relaxing and chill atmosphere in here. I will say they are busy which is a good thing. It doesn't take long to order but there are only 2 baristas working hard behind the counter trying to complete coffee and food orders and for it just being the two of them they are doing great but just know it takes just a tad bit longer to get your order. To start... the female today behind the counter taking order was incredibly impatient and rude, separately, to my wife and I. She did not seem to want to be working or take a normal order which included a bagel, a premade breakfast sandwich, a matcha latte and a coffee. Very rude and rushing. After each item was ordered, in a rude tone "is that it??" The lady making coffees was very pleasant. As for the food. Bagel was stale. Veggie cream cheese was great. Legitimately read probably 100 reviews across Asheville coffee shops so I'd pick the right one. THIS IS IT. No over-sugared drinks or gimmicks, just amazing, thoughtfully-crafted coffees. I had the Cesspool of Cinnamon hot latte and it's one of the best lattes I've ever had. Wonderful flavor from professionally-pulled espresso, homemade syrups and the right balance of ingredients. I dont usually write reviews like this but... I have come to this coffee shop many times and all times were over the last 3 years and each time im here, the energy is really off and the staff are not friendly or at least have not in my experiences. That being said, the drinks truly are delicious but they are overpriced. I work in food and bev and i am a big tipper and love knowing my locals but this place has never allowed me to do that. I am not sure if the staff are not happy because of management or maybe work environment but it is a mystery that needs solving. I work downtown specifically near college street so this is the most convenient shop for me to go to but its just a bit depressing here. read more

This was our final stop in Asheville before heading home from a long weekend away. We picked this spot on a whim due to it being so close to our hotel, and the reviews. The place definitely has a cozy atmosphere. It snowed in the morning, and there are high top seats near the window (see coffee picture) which are super awesome and provide a great view. The wife and I both ordered a latte, and the wife also ordered a lox bagel in addition, as it was a huge craving of hers. A few things to note: the service is a bit slow for a place that seemed to have very little people in it. The lox bagel, per the review of my wife, was "not bad, worth a try". My biggest gripe against this place is honestly the coffee, and the price they charge for it, which did rub me the wrong way. Trust me I get inflation, but charging close to 7 bucks for a latte is wild to me, especially for a latte that has absolutely no unique qualities about it in comparison to other spots in Asheville in which you could get higher quality coffee for half the price. Especially in a place like Asheville, which has coffee shops on every block, this feels like a huge disadvantage. Verdict: This is a cozy coffee shop, offering plenty of food and coffee options, that misses the mark on coffee quality to price ratio. If you're in the area and aren't bothered by price but needing a quick option for coffee, this place will fully satisfy your needs, and that's a-ok! Rating: 3.5 read more
