Overbooked appointments, Rude front office staff, RUDE back office staff, hours (Yes, HOURS!) long wait, and excuses out the window! Appointment scheduled for 1pm. Got a call at 10am, a cancelled appointment! If I can get there by 11, I would be processed. When I was standing to be checked in, receptionist answered phone. Person on phone was told 'if you don't check in within 15 minutes of your appointment time, we cancel and you will need to reschedule!' Ok, everything timed? Gave my info & cards, to receptionist, given back. Receptionist said 'have a seat and we'll call you back in a few.' I asked her if there were any more chairs? 9 occupied chairs and 15 people standing! Covid protocol. What? You can't bring more chairs, but it's ok to have lobby packed with standing people? Ok! Finally called back. IV rig inserted in right hand, told it would be a few minutes. And I sat. People out for recovery, people in for procedure. People called back from lobby. It is now almost 2.5 hours past my original appointment time of 1pm. I finally got the attention of nurse (?) and asked how much longer? 2 more people ahead of you. WHAT? Was told, Each procedure 30-45 minutes, clean up equipment and room, add another 15-30 minutes. 2 more people, fastest amount of time, waiting another 2-3 hours before I'm taken back! Nurse confirms time line. NO! You have the nerve to call me and ask me to come in 2 hours early, then 2.5 hours past my original appointment time and you have the nerve to tell me it could be another 2-3 hours? Take this IV out immediately! Bunch of Bovine Excrement excuses! Either you remove it or I will and I started pulling tape and left!! The next day, Victor calls to see how I'm feeling after the procedure? What procedure? I never had the procedure! Victor had no idea, me walking out was not in my chart! Unbelievable, husband had a colonoscopy scheduled today. Arrived around 9:45am! Didn't even call him back until after 12:00pm! He sat in pre-op over an hour! Still sitting waiting for him to come out! Absolute unacceptable! It's now 2:21pm still waiting! Seriously this place doesn't even deserve 1star! This is not a reflection on Dr. Pruthi. Dr.Singhs office is incompetent,they did not schedule me for colonoscopy because "I slipped through the cracks",after I called and attempted to schedule.The doctor said I would be contacted by CT facility that she ordered,I wasn't,had to do over,the blood test she ordered wasn't received and her office sent again and I was refused again as they said at Qwest it was H&P not blood test order.I had exact same CT test in March now August with double contrast which was checked and ordered by abdominal surgeon whom I trust.Dr. Singh seemed nice on the phone as was her office personnel,you can only contact in the morning as nobody answers phone in the afternoon.I have no faith in her or her office,the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing,I ran a medical office for twenty years as an oncology manager.Proceed at your own risk. read more

I had a great experience here :) Was suffering since a rather long time from an undiagnosed stomach condition. I'm glad I came here . Got all tests done at the advice of Dr Dharmaraja and Dr Kumar Perumalsamy. They are very professional and their testing is seamless, painless and quick. My only regret is I wish I had come here earlier. The staff was very nice and I will make special mention of Crystal and Maddie, they are very compassionate kind people and made sure my experience was excellent. The hospital facility's neat and clean and the doctors, and anesthesiologist John and his assistant Chris are very nice people. I'm glad I came here and the brilliant dr. Kumar Perumalsamy diagnosed my condition and I'm already on his treatment. it's a condition called SIBO which is hard to detect and diagnose but praise God it's easier to heal and treat. I agree with a prior reviewer about how they change your appointment time or book more than one person for the same appointment time. It took me 2 hours to see the doctor! I asked the receptionists about my time waiting and they seemed to "not care" about my time. Obviously, this length of wait time is standard in this practice. If your time is precious, look elsewhere. I also noticed that patients that came in after my appointment time where being seen before me!!! I asked the nurse about this and she apologized. I would not recommend High Desert Gastro, especially Dr. Pruthi. He's been ordering useless procedures--taking advantage of my husband's good health insurance. He watched him waste away for a year, ultimately resulting in almost 100 lbs of weight loss under his "care," before he was admitted to the hospital. He has also seen other incompetent docs at HDG. Update: spoke with office manager Luis who told me they get over 600 phone calls daily and the staff are overworked and overwhelmed. I told him they need to hire more staff then. Apparently, the doctors who own the practice won't allow it and this is just the way this practice will forever be run. So, avoid this place if you need attention from medical professionals because the practice philosophy is all about greed and to hell with the patients. Downgrade from 2 stars to 1 star, because zero stars aren't an option. Called their office manager Luis at 8:00 this morning leaving a very detailed message and it's now 2:00 pm with no call back. I did, however, finally get a call back from a scheduler around 10:00 am, saying I'm in the wrong trying to make an appointment because they don't have an authorization for an office visit. HELLO! I have an authorization in my hands for them to perform a procedure on me, not for a "follow up visit." I was too kind earlier when I called them lazy. They're just thick and incompetent. I called her back, and of course got voicemail. Advised her of this and 2+ hours later still haven't got a call back. I only give two stars because of my treatment there last year with a doctor who has since left the practice. I would give zero stars otherwise for the total UNRESPONSIVENESS of the staff there who man the phones. Either this place is horribly understaffed which would also earn a zero star rating, or the staff are just lazy. I've NEVER ONCE received a return phone call from their schedulers in the past year I've been forced to deal with the place. I don't complain before allowing a reasonable amount of time to pass before receiving a call back. This has been a persistent problem from day one of my dealings with them. I have placed four phone calls to the schedulers for three days now, leaving detailed messages, without a return call. This morning the operators aren't even answering the phones and it goes to voicemail after ringing for a very long time. I wish my insurance had a different facility in its network but sadly I'm stuck with these people. Finally, at my last exam the doctor turned me on my side for a digital exam then literally walked away leaving me lying there with my ass hanging out. I had to catch him on the way out the door to ask if he was through or what so I could not be lying there with my bare ass showing to people passing the now opened exam room door. read more

I was beyond impressed with my experience at this doctor's office. My first contact was with Wendy who works with Dr. Perumalsalmy and I was completely blown away by how helpful and kind she was and how fast she was at getting back to me! A lot of doctors don't realize how important it is to have administration like Wendy. The first point of contact is crucial! Wendy consistently answers all my questions before and after making my appointment. It's really rare to find someone as helpful as Wendy. When I asked her why she is so good to her patients, she replied, "patient care is my number 1 duty. If I don't have a purpose to help my patients, there's absolutely no reason for me to be here!" This office is very hard to get a hold of. We left a voicemail once a day for a few days straight on a prescription that was running out for a refill and got NO response. Does the office even check their voicemails? I am convinced they aren't. When my husband had his colonoscopy there is no privacy, just curtain dividers, with all the doctors and nurses congregating in the middle. I noticed signs everywhere for the nurses and doctors to "turn your phone off. Keep your voices down. Be professional" or something along those lines, and I thought it was funny until my husband was in pain and experiencing discomfort and everyone was loud and giggling and gossipping. Reception: not the most welcoming receptionist nor friendly. Check in: the nurse who took my weight and bp was nice and welcoming and made me feel more comfortable. Doctor: very friendly and comfortable! He took his time listening to me, made eye contact, smiled... really helpful, comfortable and friendly. During the exam he was very gentle and comforting. 1 Star - I just continue to be frustrated by this office. I was just on hold for 16 minutes trying to schedule an appointment. 16 MINUTES for a medical refill that should have occurred months ago. I hung up and am looking for a different doctor. 2 stars - I had to change my review. My hubby saw Dr. Tyagi & was told he needed an EGD. I called the office 3 times & left messages with his nurse. No call back. My medication was due for a refill. My pharmacy contacted the office three times. I called 2 times. Last week I finally went into the office & scheduled the EGD (which hubby then cancelled because we waited toolong) & was told my refill would be sent to the pharmacy. STILL NO refill. I wrote in an office eval that it feels as if too many people work there & nothing is being handled properly. But I really do like Dr. Tyagi. 5 stars - I had my second EGD with Dr. Tyagi (several years apart). I was very impressed with the staff who were very polite, friendly and organized. I was in and out of the procedure very quickly. Dr. Tyagi spoke to me personally before and after the procedure. I went home with color copies of my procedure. Dr. Tyagi saved my life in 2010, when I was rushed to emergency room by ambulance for internal bleeding. As quickly as I was being transfused blood, I was bleeding it out thru my stomach. He didn't emergency procedure and inserted 5 clips in my stomach to close holes in there. After recovery he came and explained everything and visited, not just checked on me, actually visited me every evening. Awesome doctor. read more

I had a consultation and endoscopy with Dr. Jatinder Pruthi. I can't say enough good things about my experience in the office and their outpatient surgical center. The staff was efficient and kept me informed about my out of pocket expenses in advance of the procedure. The med team that attended the procedure were so kind and gentle. Great bedside manner from check-in to check-out. Chris, the anesthesiologist, listened to my concerns and was very reassuring (as well as the rest of the crew, but I didn't catch their names). Dr. Pruthi met with me after the procedure and went over the results and answered all my questions. Very caring doctor. I would highly recommend this office. First of all I don't ever do reviews on any doctor or facility but I had to this time. I don't recommend Dr. Tyagi at all.... I was scheduled at 9 a.m and was seen 2 hours later. He comes in and it seems like he was in a hurry the whole time. My visit was less than 20 minutes long with no answers whatsoever. When I would try to explain my symptoms to him, he would start talking over me and interrupting. I've been suffering with stomach issues for a while now and I was trying to tell Dr. Tyagi about how almost 2 years ago I was diagnosed with typhoid fever in Mexico and I was given antibiotics. When I came back to the US several months later some of the symptoms were back again and I went with my regular doctor from my home town and was diagnosed with h.pylori which he prescribed more antibiotics and had to take 2 rounds to get rid of but after a few months symptoms came back again! So finally he tells me that I probably was tested wrong in Mexico and recommended to schedule an upper endoscopy, do some blood tests and later on schedule a colonoscopy as well. I show up to my endoscopy appointment (which I got done at the Ridgecrest Hospital) . After the procedure I was still drowsy on the anesthesia when Dr. Tyagi comes and tells me that all he found was stomach inflammation and that he took byopsies and to schedule a follow up appointment for my results. That's all I remember since he didn't bother to wait for me to fully wake up from the procedure and I could barely talk. So I schedule the appointment and we go home which is a 4 hour drive. A few days later I decide to call them and ask if it was possible to get my results over the phone and she said I had to go physically get the results. I was not going back to waste my time so I told her to fax them to my GP (Took forever to fax more than 2 weeks).Then I asked if I was supposed to take anything for my stomach inflammation and she tells me that Dr. Tyagi had prescribed me Carafate and protonix. I told her he never told me I was supposed to start taking those and never gave me a prescription to take home with me or anything. After that whole experience with him and his staff I just decided to cancel the colonscopy because I was over their crap and looked for a different GI doctor.I was truly disappointed and honestly think Dr.Tyagi did not take the time to truly understand what was going on with me and never explained to me of what I had and what to do. I don't recommend High Desert Gastroenterology in Ridgecrest, CA. Save your time and money and look for a different doctor that truly tries to help you and talk things through not just wing it like this one did. read more

Unfortunately, I have many years experience with doctors and I have left several Yelp reviews for doctors. Vivaik Tyagi is the only physician that I have given a one-star review to date. My one-star does not come lightly as it is after at least three appointments and a medical procedure. This man raised his voice, contradicted me when I explained my symptoms (how can you possibly do that?), and then told me that "no doctor would tell you that" when I told him what I've been told by other doctors. He would speak a mile a minute and then just walk out and end the appointment without allowing me to ask questions in private. I would have to ask him questions in the reception area in the presence of support staff and other patients. When he said I did not have xyz and I asked him how he reached that conclusion, he actually accused me of wanting the disease! I received a colonoscopy here during Thanksgiving break. I am a teacher with the best PPO insurance plan offered by my district (which is phenomenal). I was NEVER told anything about costs prior to showing up for my colonoscopy. I show up half alive from the cleansing process and check-in and they tell me I must pay $100 for the anesthesia! I pay it and they do the procedure. I wake up and the doctor that did the colonoscopy comes over to me and tells me I have a particular condition. He then tells me I must fill certain prescriptions without any explanation of the prescription OR condition (mind you I am half awake and my wife is trying to do her best). Don't you think you should spend some time explaining things to your patients? Ridiculous. I was told to come back 2 weeks later for a follow-up appointment. During the follow-up appointment: Dr. Patel was very quick to talk over me during my office visit. He thought that I was trying to tell him that I wasn't going to take the medications he prescribed. When I would try to clear up the confusion, he would say sarcastic remarks like, "do you even know what (my condition) is? Maybe you should do some reading." Why do you think I went to see Dr. Patel? SO HE COULD TELL ME MORE ABOUT MY CONDITION! I had many questions about the medication that I was prescribed, dosage, and other forms of treatment (diet, etc...). He didn't seem to have the time to talk to me about any of it and assumed I was trying to tell him when really, I was inquiring! After maybe 10min of talking, he got up, interrupted me mid-sentence and shook my hand and said he had other patients to see. I was absolutely appalled with Dr. Patel's conduct and his inability to ease my worries. I have never walked out of a doctor's office so disappointed and upset. I will never step foot in that office again and I will warn others of high desert as well. Another thing - the staff in the main building (except Madison) were rude and seemingly unhappy with their jobs. During my follow-up visit, the nurse said maybe 4 words the entire time. Healthcare requires patience, care, and the ability to communicate. High desert and Dr. Patel failed at fulfilling these requirements. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

New to the AV...This place is horrible. Told us to be here at 11:30am for a 12:00pm colonoscopy. Got here at 11:20 and checked in. 1 1/2 hrs passed before they called us to the window for insurance card. At 1pm they told him the doctor was running 45 minutes late. 2 hours later still in waiting room. There were people in the waiting room since 10 am. This is no way to run a business. You live and learn and I will never come back here nor do I recommend this place to anyone! I rather drive to Los Angeles than come here again! read more
