Fun store, very tightly packed and hard to get through with people around. It's like a house that got remodeled into a store, as there are room with clothes, exit that one and go into another. They do carry some name brand items like Kuhl, Patagonia, and other mountainous clothing. They did have a clearance area in the back, very small, in the size of a closet. Everything is very tight in this store. Prices are ok compared to other stores and online sites. Staff was good to us. There was a lot of folks in here on this Friday, so they were busy with everyone, trying to be as helpful as they could. It's worth a stop you are passing through. read more

I love this store!! Every time I come up to Cloudcroft I stop here and grab something, even if it's just some stickers. They have a great selection of clothes and gear and their prices are fair. The store has a small footprint so things are tight and when it's busy it's a little crazy but they make it work. The staff is awesome, very helpful and always super nice! They also all know the area super well so don't hesitate to ask them about where to go or what to do. They carry all the major brands and some stuff I've not seen in the big stores. They should have any small items you might have forgotten before heading out for a hike or camping trip. The downtown area is pretty small so parking is limited but I usually end up finding something pretty close in front of the store. I definitely recommend stopping in if you're in the area and are an outdoorsy person. read more

Great selection of both real gear and Cloudcroft Souvenirs. This was my first time in and I am so glad my husband recommended we go in. Two years ago, Travis was in town for an elk hunt and decided that the boots he brought were no longer going to work for him. He went in a few minutes before closing, and was able to get a new pair of boots that worked out for the rest of his hunt. read more

This is a great store for the hiker, bicyclist, camper, or wanna be survivalist. They offer quality apparel with impressive brand names such as Patagonia, Merrell, and Hoka (to name a few). They have a lot of nice T-Shirts for the day tourist wanting to remember their trip to Cloudcroft, NM, Elevation 9000 ft. I bought two T-Shirts. The employee that waited on me was courteous and polite. There are a lot of hiking trails in the area, so be sure to check this place out. It's a great store! read more

I've never been asked at an outfitter shop if my dog is a service dog. She's 10 pounds. If my daughter wasn't with me I would have left without making a purchase. At least ask in a friendly manner. Not with major "we don't like your kind" attitude. I will never return. If you have a dog you arent welcome. No sign on door that I saw saying no dogs. No excuse for the rudeness of the presumed owner. Cashier seemed embarrassed. I feel bad for any employee dealing with that tyrant. read more

We went to this store on the last day of our road trip as we needed some items. I don't remember what it was for but they have everything you might need when you are in the mountains and nature. The staff left me alone but they helped when we had a question, so this is the right amount of help I am looking for. I know this is a short review as this is the first time I went there, but next time we are in town again we will return and probably get a hiking map from them. read more

High altitude carries all the the gear you need to excel at high altitude. The girl at the register was super nice and greeted us right away with a friendly smile and hello. They have plenty of gear available for the adventure junky. Alot of the merchandise available is top tier and they carry a small selection of yeti products and a pretty sizable Amount of hydroflask merch. As expected the price tag for most of these items are at the higher end of the scale. If you arrived on bike they also have a pretty sizable bike selection with lots of accessories to ourfit your ride. The store is kind of small but they pack alot of product in a small place. Overall a great place to stop by and pick up some last minute items for any trip in the Cloudcroft area. Forsure a cool place to stop for all your incense needs! read more

IMPRESSIVE, MOST IMPRESSIVE Customer service was superb in this place. I have been to the shop a few time, being a local resident of New Mexico. I needed a new mountain bike and this was the closest Specialized dealer in my area. (120m) Started off with an e-mail and they e-mailed me back same day and after their closing hours. Well a few email later and 2 phone calls, my bike was in. I drove the 120m to pick it up and upon arrival the gentleman took out the bike, made sure all adjustments, seat, handle bar, ect. where to my liking. He then told me to take the bike for a ride around town to make sure it felt good and that I like it, quote "I will not sell you a bike you do not like, and if we need to reorder one that is no problem." Went for my ride and confirmed my purchase, he gave me a great discount on a computer and threw in 2 extra tubes. WOW great GREAT service in a beautiful little place. THANKS LOVE MY BIKE. read more

Great store to stop by and peruse while you're visiting Cloudcroft. Especially if you are a mountain biker but they have a great selection of gifts for adults and kids as well. Some eclectic stuff in there and the folks running the place are very courteous and informative--they definitely know the area. They carry high-end technical clothing and the pricing is as expected for such high quality clothing. They also carry a few camping essentials such as hot dog/marshmallow sticks! read more

Rented mountain bikes from these guys and really couldn't have asked for a better experience. We weren't particularly picky about having high-end equipment, so we were completely pleased with the hard-tail Specialized bikes. They were in great shape and we had no mechanical difficulties in 5 + hours on the trails. They have a map of a local 8-9 mile route that is quickly accessible from the shop, which was very fun, though a little more technical in places than we were expecting. Take the time to READ THE DIRECTIONS carefully, and don't just rely on the drawn map. There are lots of opportunities to take wrong turns. Aside from the rental, the shop is very well equipped and I really enjoyed my whole experience with High Altitude. I definitely plan to go back!! read more

This place is a gem in amongst the delightful but totally tourist tailored (alliteration much, sorry) stores in Cloudcroft. It's main purpose is to serve as a cycling shop but beyond that they sell hiking and camping gear and rent mountain bicycles for use on local routes. A limited selection of skateboards/longboards and snowboards were available. For a smaller shop, High Altitude sells a lot of apparel, including typical brands like Billabong, Hurley, Volcom, etc. Beyond that local jewelry and accessories are sold as is their own apparel. They have above-average souvenir t-shirts, the top-seller appeared to be the stoner humor based "Get High" shirts (the shop is 9,000 ft. up). Great women's clothing is also sold, my girlfriend bought a really nice and super-cute beaded yellow blouse when we visited. The staff was very nice and unsurprisingly laidback. It has all the action/adventure/xtreme/buzzword-of-the-moment sports oriented commodities you'd expect but way more charm and personality than a mall shop like Pac-Sun or Zumiez. read more

I like this place. The staff was great. They were friendly, talking to the customers and offering advise. They have maps of the local trails and have bike rentals. Had my own bike so I did not rent, but the rental bikes looked to be in good shape. I only get to Clouldcroft about once a year and this is store is always one of my stops. read more

I spent the weekend in Cloudcroft to look at homes and check out the vibe for my future move there next month. I am really involved in mountainbiking and needed a few parts to finish my new frame build. I met Matt @ High Altitude. I think he owns the shop; he was beyond helpful and even let me search through his extra parts bin to fix my brakes. I am so glad this place is in Cloudcroft. Matt is the type of small business owner we need more of. He seems to have a genuine and friendly personality. This going to be my "go to" bike shop. read more

Great group of folks! We came to ride the local trails and stopped ln for information and advice. They went out of their way to explain the routes, land marks and "be careful" areas, and even worked schedules around to provided an impromptu pickup when we were tired the second day just wanting a fun downhill run. We were focused on mountain biking, but noted a good variety of outdoor gear. read more

It appears as though if you aren't a regular customer or fit into a particular mold, you are not treated very well. Very disappointed - I've been going to High Altitude since 2003. Neat place, but I just had a downer experience. I purchased an Eno, straps and some clothes yesterday. The guy in the store suggested a non-Eno, pricier strap that he said was more adjustable. I said what I really wanted was an extended Eno strap, and he said this strap was adjustable like the extended. This strap turned out to be the same length as regular Eno straps, so I tried to take it back today. The guy said their return policy is "exchanges or store credit only" (not super-helpful for people just vacationing here), and since my packaging was missing a piece, I couldn't return them at all. That's an unusual return policy, and it would be less upsetting if they would state their return policy when checking you out. The guy also didn't even know that the extended Eno straps were 54" longer than the regular. So I was recommended a pricier strap that turned out to be the same length as a normal strap, by a guy who I thought knew his outdoor equipment. What a letdown! read more
