Fresh Chef Meal Prep

I was home checking on Mother. She is a cancer patient and she doesn't always eat properly so I…read morefound Fresh Chef on here and although there weren't any reviews, I decided to take a chance. Ordering was pretty simple. You just click on the breakfasts and lunch/dinners you want and pay. I was contacted immediately saying that my order was received and I asked that the spinach be subbed out for another vegetable...no problem. I think I ordered my 10 meals on Thursday evening, the meals arrived Monday. I was prepared to leave Tuesday morning so I took the liberty of tasting everything before I left so Mother couldn't tell me half-truths about the flavor or anything. By far my favorite was the chili. Everything else tasted fresh. It wasn't overly seasoned or salty, which I could appreciate as everyone's dietary restrictions are different. I gave her the turkey meatloaf with mashed potatoes that evening for dinner. We added a little salt and she enjoyed it. She also told me that she enjoyed the egg white cups, and hashbrowns. You have to remember the chemo messes with her taste buds so the fact that she ate any of it was progress. But again, I can attest to the taste of everything. I would recommend Fresh Chef for your meal prep needs. If I still lived in NJ I would probably order meals because I can be lazy about eating properly.

I had to come back an hour and a half later to get my order. When I got my order home I noticed that one of my meals was missing. I contacted them and they said they would give me another meal when I order again if I wasn't willing to come back to pick it up even though it was their mistake. I tried ordering from them a second time and was told to pick up at the designated time. I was outside waiting again for 30 minutes being told they were backed up. When I received the order five of my meals were not what I ordered. I contacted them and they said they would find out what happened. I didn't receive what was originally ordered, so I got five meals that I didn't want. They were supposed to get back to me and never did so I had to message them to say I wanted a refund. They do not do refunds but I could get a discount code on my next order. I asked to be contacted by phone instead of being texted and never received a phone call. I will not be doing business with them again. Both of these situations left a bad taste in my mouth. Customers should get what they paid for or be compensated appropriately.

Was I really excited to hit up a place with all of six reviews? Yes! (Shout out to fellow Yelper…read moreSama C for the hot tip!) This completely unassuming spot in Ironbound Newark cranks out some great little to-go meals specifically for packing the fridge for the week ahead with healthy and good tasting ready-to-eat meals. If you're a big eater, you'll probably want to get more than one per meal. But at the price point (typically in the $7-8 range per dish) they're legit. Order a day ahead through their website for pick up the next day. Closed on Saturdays. Given the trip for me, I make this a multi-stop Newark run along with fish market, Portuguese bakery, and authentic Spanish lunch (several great spots in same area, but I'll leave that for another review).

My #ThankYouThursday is to give thanks to this local business…read more Meal Prep Mania is a meal prep kitchen that combines healthy clean eating with affordable pricing. I have been coming here for many years now, and this place has grown over time. They offer many options when buying a well balanced meal. This includes selecting one of the many meals, building your own customized meals, and trying out some of their weekly specials. Oh, and how can I forget the healthy desserts and snacks! My genuine gratitude goes out to M.P.M. for saving me lots of money as well as providing me a daily solid meal option. Since I eat a lot, and have a workout regime that craves healthy clean eating; this place is a win for me.... And, when I save quite a few dollars here then I can splurge on those fancy shmancy night out dining experiences. Thank you M.P.M. for doing what you do!

Working in Newark everyday allows me to enjoy lunch at Hobby's a few times a month…read more The restaurant itself is very dated and old school. Lots of Devils memorabilia is hung up throughout. Basic seating with nothing fancy. A full jar of fresh pickles is on the table. The pastrami is second to none. Seriously. You get a generous portion of pastrami on rye. Greasy, fatty, just perfect! The onion rings are the best. They are famous for a reason. I go a few times a month so, I'm always greeted by name and promptly seated. The food always arrives shortly after the order is taken.

Luckily I found Hobby's Delicatessen via Find Me Gluten Free and was so glad to find that they do legitimate gluten-free options with a dedicated fryer and prep space to prevent cross contamination. I had the gluten-free pastrami wrap with fries for $23.95 and my husband had the #5 pastrami and corned beef with coleslaw and Russian dressing for $25.95. he also got the drip coffee with free refills for $3.25. Service was amazing. Owner's came out and chatted with us and preemptively made sure that I was aware that my food was safe for me to consume. Our waitress was incredibly personable and sweet. There were free pickles on the table. I'm not even a pickle person but I had three because again, I've been dying for vegetables after being in Europe. Great portions, safe celiac options, personable service, refillable drinks and no charge to use the toilets (although I didn't need to use them during this visit) This is what makes American restaurants great and Hobby's ticks all of those boxes.
