I felt that we had landed in a beautiful botanical garden; and, because of the Santa Anna winds, the Inland Empire was crystal clear--from the top of the hill we could see for miles in every direction! Also, with every breath I took the air felt impossibly fresh and crisp! My dream is that the entire Inland Empire strives to become the world's most beauiful botanical gardens and where her communities vye for top prizes from the American Public Gardens Association...ahhh, wouldn't that be lovely? It's more of a neighborhood park than a destination, really. The rocks on the hill tops (twin peaks) are covered in heavy layers of paint to mask graffiti and the fresh graffiti defeating the periodic efforts to suppress it. Sad, but true. Who's this small park for? Great for dogs. First, there's a small parking lot on the opposite side of the hill when viewed from the south or driving on California Street. The ungroomed trails also beg for riding BMX or mountain bikes. Basic equipment, though, nothing terribly challenging except the steep climb on the SE corner. It was worth visiting to rule it out, but the .74 miles on my Strava app revealed its low value for time and distance.

Nice and shaded with benches, too bad there is a lot of trash in it. The second half is pretty bleak, even in the spring. I went with the family on Saturday for their annual butterfly day. That was pretty cool and would be the only time I'd consider going back. $3 admission but lots of free arts and crafts for the kids, snakes, and of course butterflies.

On the south end of the park is a hill where a bunch of ground squirrels live. Chasing these will definitely tire one out. I'm exhausted after only a few minutes. I wish I had a dog to share in the fun. Those little squirrels are fast! Especially the ones with foaming mouths. Picnic tables and benches are plentiful. Most are shaded. My favorite are the benches on top of the hill. You can get a beautiful view of the surrounding area and further on to the San Bernardino mountains, which at present time are snowcapped. If you enjoy bird watching, you'll see a nice variety. Raven, Hawk, sparrow, robbin, and humming. A flock of geese flew over as I was writing this. Behind the park are rocky hills for the kids to explore. I didn't climb them as I was too tired from chasing the squirrels. Plus, I wasn't feeling too good after one of the foamy ones bit me. Drunken squirrels can get pretty nasty.

The reviews and pictures on this park caught my eye. It was more than I had hoped for especially because I've given up hiking to train my dog and lately I've been missing my hikes. This park gave me a bit of what I have been missing. Peaceful surroundings, trees, a dirt path, space, and minimal distractions. The pup and I got to play and train and we both left feeling super satisfied. I did notice a small blue tent in the park. Not sure if it was occupied. I wasn't too concerned because I had my dog. A discarded syringe cap was also found near a bench. Otherwise, the park was well-manicured, clean, and serene. I look forward to returning!
