My husband and I had planned a short getaway, during Easter weekend, for our 11th Anniversary. We had never been to Pinetop and had always wanted to go! We found Hidden Rest Resort on Hotels.com, which had a mixture of reviews, but very reasonable prices. We chose this place for the price and the good reviews that were listed. When I initially planned it, I chose the Honeymoon suite (Cabin 9) for the hot tub. Unfortunately, due to an unexpected surgery I recently had, we were unable to use the hot tub. That was a bummer. I attempted multiple times to try and change the cabin online prior to our arrival, but they were completely booked Easter weekend. No biggie. We still stayed. Melissa, at the front office, was very nice and friendly. She informed me of a $50 cleaning fee for the room, which I appreciated her allowing me to pay in cash. She showed me a map of the property and how to locate my cabin. What I appreciated the most was that when I called in the next day to inquire about restaurants, she was very knowledgeable and provided me with a great recommendation! We truly enjoyed the food that night for dinner! Thank you Melissa! The room was very nice and perfect for two people. The moment you walk in, the hot tub is straight ahead. Because of the hot tub, unfortunately, there is a strong smell of chlorine in the room. That I didn't like too much, but it's to be expected with a hot tub in the cabin. We had the windows open from time to time to get the smell out. Also, when you walk in, the living room is to the left. The living room is very spacious, has a lot of seating, a heater, and a TV with movies. The kitchenette was the perfect size and had all the accessories we needed to cook, eat, wash dishes, and more. The appliances were definitely outdated and a bit rusty, but they worked just fine. The appliances included a small microwave, a stove, an oven, a small mini fridge, a mini freezer (that only fits a couple of ice trays), a coffee machine, and sink. The bathroom was nice and very clean. They had complimentary shampoos, conditioners, and soap, but we didn't need to use them given we had our own supplies. The shower was wet when we arrived and I'm assuming it was due to cleaning prior to our arrival. Unfortunately, the shower did not have hot water when we used it. Overall, the bathroom was great. The bedroom was comfy and cozy! The bed had a memory foam mattress with super comfy pillows and comfy sheets. We didn't utilize the blankets and sheets because we brought our own. The room also had a small clothing rack to hang a few clothes. The heater in the cabin worked wonders! We visited when a short snow storm came! It was the best! The snow came falling down Friday night allowing us to enjoy the snow Saturday morning in to the evening! The heater kept the room warm from the cold, which was nice. Although, the heater, along with the hot tub, made it a tad bit noisy in the cabin from time to time, they weren't bad to the point where it kept you up all night. Overall, we had a wonderful stay! The weather was perfect, the cabin was nice, the food was good, and this all made our anniversary trip a delight! We will back again soon! read more

Place is definitely haunted. Stayed in cabin 6 and the heaters kept turning on when I kept turning them off. Kept hearing tapping and footsteps. A lot of noise coming from the bathroom. My daughter kept asking what that noise was every minute it seemed like. Kept hearing banging on the outside walls. When the front heater turned on right in front of me I almost lost it. But it was middle of night and my daughter was sleeping. Then when packing on the last day. We heard a bang in the window next to the bed. The curtains moved up when it happened and my daughter started crying and saying Daddy whats that. I said the place is haunted. Now she never wants to travel again. Def don't take ur kids here. The heaters don't turn themselves on and off. The first night they never kicked on and was snowing the whole time. I also lived in Pinetop for 5 years of my childhood so know how trees and squirrels and raccoons sound going on ur roof or building. I was hearing knocking on the ouside walls. Like somebody wanted to come in. Footsteps in the cabin aren't gonna be anything else. And ur right u don't have blinds just curtains. Small flimsy curtains which can be pulled up as well. Whatever smacked the window hit the center of he curtains and made the bottoms fly up. Maybe I made it sound worse the way I worded it the first time. But that u def can't explain. The place was def haunted. And whatever was in there didn't want us in there. U can call this a stupid post but I wish someone would have told me it was haunted before traumatizing my daughter on our first trip together read more

My husband and I had a nice stay in cabin 6. Queen room, close quarters, cozy and quaint. We found it to be almost perfect for a quick 2-night stay. It was so nice to be able to bring our dogs with us for a reasonable fee! In fact, most of the other travelers at the resort park had dogs. It was awesome to be able to take them to the nearby Greens Peak to enjoy the beautiful wilderness. What we loved about Hidden Rest: *Melissa was extremely helpful and hospitable in the days leading up to our stay. She's very knowledgeable about the area, so I'd recommend her as a resource if you're not from the area. *We needed a late check in, and could do so conveniently because the door had a smart lock. *When we first walked in, the AC was cranked way down. We visited in the summer, so it was a huge relief to have a well-working unit. *Convenient location right off the highway. We did not experience the traffic noise at night that so many other reviews complain about. *Great price for what you're getting. *We were pleasantly shocked to find that the bed was temperpedic style, not an old, outdated spring-in-the-rib heap. The pillows were nice and fluffy, and the sheets were soft, too. *Cute little porch to enjoy resort-provided coffee on in the mornings. *Cabin 6 isn't haunted. Lol What would have made the stay next-level: *The shower was just slightly bigger than an RV shower. It would have been less miserable to use if there was a detachable style shower head; washing long hair was pretty annoying. *In this cabin, there were very few outlets. If there were any by the bed on either side, we couldn't find them. I had to unplug the coffee maker to charge my phone, and my husband had to plug his into the outlet up high by the TV. I understand the resort cannot do anything to change this, just an FYI to other travelers. *Our neighbors were not very considerate; they were up until the wee hours of the morning being loud outside and their porch light felt like it was pointing right into our cabin. Again, not something the resort cannot help, but please be a kind neighbor if you stay here; these cabins are very close together with thin curtains. *We would have loved a small stool or table in between the patio chairs to set our coffee cups/books on in the morning. The picnic table near the porch had stuff from the trees falling on it (not ideal with open coffee cups). All in all, we would stay here again! As long as we could book a king room. My wife and I stayed here from September 10-13 for a quick getaway. We rented cabin 9 because of the king bed and indoor hot tub which I highly enjoyed. The cabin was clean except for a few cobwebs here and there. It's a little dated ( looks like the '70s may have been the heyday of the property.) There are books to read and dvd's to watch because the tv reception is spotty. All in all for the price it's a good deal. read more

The place was easy to find and check in was fairly simple. We booked the cabin with jacuzzi but didn't use it due to the water being low and murky. Although it smelled of chlorine we didn't want use it. The rest of the cabin was clean. Downfall was the location being so close to the main road you can hear traffic especially first responders. There was some odd noises inside the cabin that sounded like someone walking from area to the other. The sound was creaking floors in front of the bed. This happened around 2 am the 2nd night. The first night my husband slept on the left side that is next to the bathroom. His left arm got chills from his hand to his shoulder making the hair stand up. As he opened his hand to reached out it stopped. The heater in the bathroom would turn on by its self when the switch and dial are both on off position. Couldn't find history on the property as being haunted but there was definitely something in this cabin. read more

We rented Cabin 10. I was most impressed with the cleanliness of the cabin. It even had a decorated Christmas tree. The bed was comfy. We found we had to run the overhead fan so we didnt get too hot from the wall heater. The hot water came quickly. It would be nice if the website had a map so you know where to find each Cabin. I appreciate this place because they saved us. We had reservations for a campsite, drove 4 hours to get there, only to be told that there was no camping allowed at the site that day. Woof. We had our car full of stuff and our two dogs and needed to find somewhere to stay for the night. Luckily this place came through. They had a cabin and allowed the dogs for a fee. The cabin was expensive, but it was nice. It had a hot tub in it and a full kitchen, which was great. The kitchen was adorable with appliances that looked like they were from the 50s. So, first off. I pull in and can't find an office. I had to phone to find out where I was to stay. Person I contacted said she sent out emails, but I had never received one. Comfortable and clean. NO TV and spotty internet. No cabinets or shelves in master or livingroom to put things on or away. I was in the "family" cabin. It was nice to have the BBQ outside. This is the coziest small cabin that we thoroughly enjoyed. We spent 5 nights very comfortably, even with snow falling outside! The wood burning stove kept us so very warm. The cabin was very clean, had a kitchenette supplied with all cooking needs. The bed was ever so comfortable and the shower had very hot water! This was such a pleasant surprise not knowing what to expect. It was very reasonably priced and dog friendly. The manager on site was very pleasant and helpful. We stayed in cabin 11 for 3 nights - 2 kids and 2 adults. It was perfect for us- kids slept on beds and couch in front room, parents in the bedroom. The cabin had all we needed- cooked meals on the stove and in the oven. We even grilled some steaks out on a bbq our last night! Ate takeout from wZ Asian and had the best horseback ride with Porter Mountain Stables. My husband and I just got home from Hidden Rest and we're missing it already. This was the most relaxing place we've been to in a long time. We stayed in cottage #10, at the back of the property, and though the the property sits just off of Rt 260, the road noise isn't bad at all. There is a screened in front porch where we spent many hours just listening to the wind in the pines and the night bugs singing. This is an older property and the outside of the cottage could use some TLC but don't judge a book by it's cover. The inside was very clean and comfortable. The bed was a little too soft for my liking but I loved the big fluffy pillows. The kitchen was equipped with everything that you could need to cook ( pots,pans,utensils,dishes, a 12 cup coffee maker, microwave, 2 burner hot plate and a toaster) The refrigerator is almost full sized (not a mini) and big enough to accommodate enough food/beverages for a few days. The WIFI works well and they have smart TVs with free HULU. There's a hot tub in the kitchen area and a free standing fireplace in the bedroom area. The bathroom is small but the fixtures are new and the towels are large,plush and cleaner than I've ever seen a hotel towel. There's also a charcoal grill and a picnic table in front of the porch,if you feel like BBQ-ing. The owners are friendly and professional and try to make your stay comfortable. They live on site and are available if you need anything. This isn't the kind of place you go if you want daily maid service and a mint on your pillow but overall, if you are a cabin person and like peace and quiet, I would recommend this place. I would not recommend staying here. Used their fire place and got charged because soot got on their robe. Then I used a towel to knock the snow off my motorcycle. Charged again. Then I was blamed for a black spot in the jacuzzi. Charged $236 for cleaning their own issues. Don't put white robes in a cabin with a fireplace. Duh. We were planning a big group trip but now will find somewhere not so finicky. Like get some spray and wash you uncultured swine. I get soot out of everything with dawn dish soap. Hopefully one brain cell will smack the other and you'll figure this trick out too. PS there was already soot in the jacuzzi that I cleaned. I found this place on craigslist after needing a quick replacement spot when the Greer Lodge failed to let me know my cabin I had reserved had burned down (that is for a future review!) They had a 50% off special, so we were able to book a small cabin with different beds for $190 for the opening weekend of Sunrise Ski Park. Even though I give it 3 stars total, they get 5 stars for service. The manager was very nice. We did have a few problems with the heater in our cabin going out, then the pilot light going out in our gas fireplace, the manager was able to macgyver me via phone to where a spare space heater could be found on the property. By the next night our heater was fixed and she even came by with her big dog to check. I say 3 stars since this is not 5 star accommodation, but will fit the bill if your looking for a cheap place to stay in the area that fits 5 or 6 people. The bedroom did have a king bed that could fit 2 people. Then they had a murphy type bed on the wall in the main room, and a twin bed in the corner of the main room (by the heater and fireplace, snag that bed!). I would for sure stay here again if I'm with the guys. I'm not sure about paying full price if the 50% off is gone or if I had some ladies in the group that are picky about where you stay. This is located right on the main highway so it's super easy to find, close to groceries and about a 30 minute drive away from Sunrise. read more

I stayed in the fall with my boyfriend, and we really enjoyed it here. The big sign helped us find the place, but it's somewhat of an awkward turn to make off the highway. The cabins have a very rustic charm, and the grounds are well maintained; they have grills and an outdoor common area. It was surprisingly quiet, and I think most of the cabins were occupied. The owners and staff were very helpful. We were also able to bring our pup. The in-room hot tub was cool; we only used it for a little bit. The bathroom was tiny with a small stall shower, but that added to the rustic appeal. There was a full kitchen stocked with dishes and glassware, and it was nice to have a full-size fridge. These would be decent for a long-term stay. My one gripe is there are a lot of cabins packed in on the property. You will be on top of your neighbors. The price was decent, and I wouldn't mind staying again, but there are other cabins in the area that are a bit nicer and more remote-feeling. read more

Perfectly sized cabins for my wife and I. Everything we needed was right there: bed, shower, bathroom, fridge, sink, toaster, microwave, dishes, towels, table, chairs... and so on. What's more, the shower head let out the most comfortable stream of water ever. And the water heater worked quickly: no waiting for it to warm up! I didn't stay at this cabin due to personal issues but I was planning for Christmas time and around that time of year, it snows so you cant miss it! I spoke with Chad who helped me refund my costs. Anyone who wants to go to this cabin should call Hidden Rest Cabin themselves and book their reservation. All costs go straight towards the cabin as for Booking.com, their costs go towards their company and not towards the workers who actually did the work. I booked the cabin through Booking.com and they DO NOT give refunds in any cancellation but Chad in the office, with the 10% cancellation fee, was able to give me my refund. This cabin was just perfect for our quick weekend getaway. The staff that was working were so accommodating and nice! Got a cabin for 2 nights with the idea that we would be somewhat near snow and have an adventure staying in a cabin. Obviously, not their fault/issue there was no snow, and we still drove out and found snow. So as we were looking for the cabins, our GPS directions told us our cabin would be right off the busy road on the left. My expectation for a cabin would be hidden and in a wooded area. The cabins are actually right off the road. Anyways, we arrived about 30 minutes early to check in (check in at 3pm) and when we walked into the office, a lady came out of a door in her pajamas and explained she was sick. We were told the room was still getting cleaned by her husband so we drove to a nearby bar to hang out and give them their time. Came back about an hour later and found our reserved cabin. There was a broken sea-saw and basketball hoop in front of our cabin. The cabin inside was as expected/shown online. No issues with the room itself. We were excited about reserving a room with a spa inside, and when we saw it- didn't really want to get in. It's old and when I actually did get in (just to do it so I could say I got in) the water was lukewarm. Then I got really freaked out about being so close to an outlet. The spa was a letdown. All in all- the cabin met my expectations. It was the physical location that was a disappointment. We could hear and see police sirens rush past the street during the night. read more

Absolutely love this place! My band had a gig in Whiteriver, so we decided to stay the night in Pinetop area. I called this location and asked the person who picked up, who was also the owner, to convince me why we would choose their cabins over a hotel room. 10 minutes later we were at the hidden rest resort location and checked into our room. Not only did he convince us but he showed us the cabins and we even decided to get the bigger cabin, even when we didn't need it. The cabins (smaller or bigger) all have plenty of space and everything you need to have an enjoyable stay. Beds were perfect, shower was amazing and absolutely loved having outdoor seating right outside of the cabin. Definitely very very happy with our choice and will be back. I'm sure this will surprise most, but I'm writing this review and we still have another night here . We came up here to celebrate our 10th Anniversary and it was perfection. Yes, it was cold, and yes it snowed, but it was absolutely beautiful up here. These cabins were built in 1952, and there have been no modifications. We stayed in Cabin 8, with a new jacuzzi. We enjoyed the jacuzzi so much, it was absolutely amazing. Chad was wonderful to deal with and extremely helpful. The hot water was hot and the cold water was cold. I don't know what kind of mattress it was, but I have never gotten a better nights sleep, the bed was the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on! Oh, if you're looking for a great Steakhouse, you've gotta try Cattlemen's. We had Prime Rib and it was perfect in every way, creamy horseradish and au jus. This place is very special, so if you're looking to get away and REALLY relax, HIDDEN REST CABINS is the place. read more

This is the second time in as many years that we came back to these cabins. They had started a remodel 2 years ago, and the bathroom looks great! For slip and fall folks, be careful, there are no safety bars. When we arrived after driving through lots of rain, it was letting up, and the husband manager let us use his coals so our dinner would be ready faster. We didn't have a problem, and had fun exploring trails along the rim and two lakes too! The manager knew where these places were, and we found everything easily. Yes, our cabin is number 1, close to the road, but we don't mind. It's ok for the two of us. I appreciate having cooking utensils and pots, pans, cups, etc. Our fridge worked fine, and the stove did too. A screen door would be nice, the porch isn't screened either, so look for that if you prefer. Our cabin and parking spot was very clean. Also, lighting was a little challenge (new type of bulbs). No spiders, or ants, either. Watch for the cat, lol, he's friendly and a little bored. read more

One star is too generous. I can't imagine why anyone would choose to stay here, the reviews must be from employees. Garbage overflowing from the huge bin outside our Cabin 11 with deserted office, looks like something out of Hitchcock movies. Broken down vehicles everywhere. I called for help, got none, had to eat the booking.com reservation for 3 nights but it's better than being miserable. When I eventually contacted someone to cancel the reservation, he said he didn't care, booking.com had already paid them and since they're a multi-million dollar organization, getting a refund would be impossible. The place is for sale so they must have given up the ship. read more

Let me begin by saying 1 star is too high of a rating! I booked a cabin with the expectation of enjoying a wonderful weekend to the white mountains. I booked via Hotels.com. In the interim, the Cedar fire whichcontinued to grow and Show Low, Pinetop and Lakeside were all put on prevacuation notice. I called a week before our trip and asked about cancelling due to the potential fire hazard and was never told I couldn't cancel or told if I did I would lose my entire reservation cost - full cost of stay. A few days ago, I contacted the information hotline for the area to get an update on the fire because there was no changes on preevacuation. I was told that due to the wind, pinetop/lakeside was covered in heavy smoke from the fire. We decided to cancel our trip. Not worth being miserable or taking any chances with safety. I canceled our reservations and all I got was an email that said cancelled! Two days later still no word or credit to my credit card. I send an email asking what's the deal? I'm THEN told if I cancel less then 15 days of booking date no monies will be refunded. We cancelled due to Mother Nature and a fire still burning 45000 + acres. The owner is in no way pleasant or reasonable and doesn't care what is going on in the vicinity. She just wants her money! If the fire was out or even at a higher containment it would have been s different story, but I can't see jeopardizing my health not knowing how the smoke may effect the area. My recommendation if you want to stay here, don't book ahead of time just I case you need to cancel! If the have an availability, good for you! read more

Decent little joint to stay for the night. Cabin was okay, nothing amazing. We paid the extra fee for the hot tub, but was kind of disappointed in the temperature (lukewarm at best) and the jets were really wimpy. We also ended up with a cabin right underneath an oak tree (maybe they all are?) and we had acorns falling onto the roof ALL NIGHT. Seriously, it was like we were being bombed with acorns hitting the roof and rolling all around all night. It was really distracting and even woke us up more than once. My wife and I spent 2 days here over the holiday. 2 days wasn't enough. We'd had an emergency pop up on our day of check in so we were later than we had planned. The owners were very accomodating. I had read how the place was right off the highway but set up so you feel like you're in the middle of the woods. This was spot on. Its easy to get to but you feel like you're in the middle of nowhere in a good way, especially at night. The property appeared to be full while we were there but it was quiet and comfortable. The cabin was stocked with everything you could need, just bring the food you want to cook. We found out we had brought an array of things we didnt have to because they were already supplied. The porch area and charcoal grill is very relaxing and allows you to kick back and enjoy nature in peace. The bed felt like a brand new memory foam mattress. It was better than hotels I've been to. They make it really easy to settle in and just feel at home away from home. We want to go back in the future and try one of the cabins with a hot tub in it. Called Hidden Rest Resort directly, and Chad was super helpful and rearranged a bit to fit my second night in without having to switch cabins. Drove-up from Phoenix on Friday night. Check-in was EASY! Walked in, told them who I was, and was handed the key! lol Love the small town service! The cabin we stayed in was clean, cozy, and the 'retro' feel was cool. My husband and I brought our two kids and our dog up from Vegas for a long weekend and we LOVED IT! It's like camping without all the work. Pet friendly cabin was very clean and cozy. Bed was extremely comfortable. Full kitchen with dishes, cookware etc. There is a new grill at every cabin so we BBQ'd and cooked all weekend which saves a ton by not eating out. Free wi-if and the cabins have flat screen tv's. The owners are fantastic! We did s'mores with them every night! Great people, Great place, Great town. This place is great! My wife and I stayed here for her birthday with our young daughter. We both wanted a quiet place and I especially wanted a hot tub. This was everything we were looking for at a great price! The owner was very nice and helpful. She gave us some nice advice on local hikes and kid friendly places to visit. There's a nice kids playground right by the lake close by. The cabins were really cool inside. The exterior is like small house, but the interior is all log cabin. It was really clean and well stocked with all basic necessities. What we both liked was that we had our privacy and weren't bothered constantly. I am giving this cabin one star based on their customer service and treatment we received. We put our food in the fridge after we arrived. A couple of hours later, when I got something out, I noticed it didn't feel that cold. Since it was already late, I didn't go to the office because 1. I wasn't sure if it was too warm. and 2, I didn't want to wake up the hosts who live on site. They do not have their available hours posted anywhere and while their office lights are on, that doesn't mean they are open as many businesses leave their lights on all night for security and so they can be found. I went to Walmart and bought a fridge thermometer. It seemed unreliable because it kept changing and took it a long time to reach a stable temp. All the while, my husband thought the temp was fine. In the morning, we went back to Walmart and exchanged the thermometer for another one. It confirmed that the fridge temp was between 45 and 50 degrees depending on the area of the fridge. By this time, our food had been in there for quite some time. We had to throw out all of our organic turkey burgers, yogurt, cheese, etc. Since we were there for 3 nights and planned to cook for most meals, we had a lot of food. $100 worth that we then had to replace. I spoke with the owners about this and the husband accused me of lying, saying I may have turned down the fridge. This was after I requested to have our groceries reimbursed as they should have checked the fridge temp before we checked in. I couldn't even tell what the setting on the fridge was (or which way was colder) because they had removed the knob so people wouldn't change it. They finally brought us a small apartment fridge. I then asked for them to keep our new food cold in another fridge while that fridge was reaching temperature. After telling me all I wanted was money (please - that is so ridiculous), the wife finally agreed to put our food in their fridge for a couple of hours. I have never seen such terrible customer service at a place. It was a huge inconvenience, completely ruined our evening and our plans that night. They were beyond rude and downright insulting. Do not stay there. This is not even to mention that the property is located right off the major road, so there is a lot of traffic noise. It is also not well kept, the toilet was dirty when we arrived, there are spider webs on the enclosed porch, and nails sticking out of the walls in the bathroom near the ceiling. It was not well dusted in some areas, there was only one kitchen towel, no dish drying rack, no luggage racks, and the bathroom towels were like sandpaper as was the toilet paper. The ceiling above the bed had a water stain and was sagging. I pushed on it (low ceiling), and it gave quite a bit with a visible gap (I didn't notice this until late our last night when I was looking for additional spiders after I found a big black one on the bed). I had to move the bed away from the wall so that we wouldn't be underneath it should it give during a rainstorm. It smells musty as well, so who knows what is growing in the ceiling from the leak. The floor is also uneven where the carpet meets the wood, so this is not a good place for elderly people who may trip on it. This place is in need of repairs. Don't stay here if you want a nice place and to be treated with respect. read more
