WELL worth the $20 bones it costs for the almost 1.5 hr tour of downtown Dallas as well as the boarding house and routes that Oswald took after the shooting, from killing Tippit to being captured at the theater. Dallas only see below I am really upset with the Big bus…read moretour in dallas. We paid for Hop on Hop off tickets. They put us on the city tour. We were not giving options to hop on and hop off to look at any of the attractions as advertised on the website. We had to get off at a location not near the final stopping point because we needed a pit stop. The lady told us they would not be back to pick us up or that there was not another bus coming. This is not a way to conduct a business. We were not told they put us on City tour if that's what they did. So we were expecting to be able to do sightseeing at each of the stops we wanted to get on or off at. What is the use of advertising a Hop on Hop off tour if you're not going to allow the customer to hop on and hop off where they stop and get on the next bus. We ended up paying for other transportation to get back to our car because we are two miles away where she dropped us off. This is very disappointing. We haven't had good experience with most of the bus up on and Hop off tours over the years, but this one was bad because we couldn't get a hold of anybody to talk to them about anything.

Degolyer House This…read more1940 house inside the beautiful Dallas Arboretum is great stopover on any day, especially on a hot day when the temperature outside is 110F! We were exhausted at the sheer heat when this very friendly 'free golf cart in the park' driver came by and offered to show us around. We were just too happy to hop on. One of the stops he took us to was the house, and he told us to ring the bell and someone would open. We did just that though we were not really sure if someone would be in at 2 on this hottt afternoon on a weekday, but it was opened by the most cheerful lady I have ever met. They had pamphlets, guest books guides everything ready. Fun fact- its free! Another fun fact- this was the First building to get full air conditioning facility in the 1940, in all of southeast America!!!! So yes, its a Must Visit. The place actually has a cafe / restaurant attached to it, which is, in fact, the extended patio of the house, and I am given to understand that its popular too, but it was closed today. They do give this out for party renting. A little history- the Golyers got this built as their retirement house, probably thats the reason there are no upstairs. The pictures of the family is all over the house. Interestingly, there is also an invite to the late President Kennedy's lunch for Mrs. Golyer, which, never happened because he was assassinated on the way to this very lunch! The library looks exotic with 15000 books, and as of now there is a photo exhibition going on with the artist on the floor. Some really touching pictures with soulful stories to it, they can be purchased if you have $1500 minimum in your pocket. I have to mention that the ladies there were absolutely charming and helpful. They literally walk with you and point out interesting stuff around the house. The architecture is Spanish inspired and very cool. A Must Visit.

They are based on light and sound. This is not Christmas lights. I heard some ppl confused. Def not- this is stars or cosmic in thematic elements. It is visually stunning and artistically appealing. I love art that is accessible. While pricy, this is art and tech that is available to anyone and not gatekeeping in museums. Get outside in a gorgeous location and enjoy everything this experience has to offer! Pro Tip: if you can afford the splurge, it is pretty to walk around with a glow cube drink. I purchased tickets for my husband and myself using the senior/disabled discount as I am both. Whether it was my error or an error with the website, the tickets were purchased for the wrong date--I had planned this as one of the few gifts my husband and I would share this Christmas season--and we hoped to go on Christmas Eve. When I checked the tickets on Dec. 24 to see what time we were scheduled to go, I saw that they were actually issued for Dec. 17 and we had missed the date. I purchased them on Dec. 16 and being disabled, I require time to plan and ensure that we can make it on time--I never schedule anything next day. And besides, as I said this was intended as our Christmas event, the only thing we had planned that Christmas Eve. I contacted Fever to ask if we could use the tickets anyway, and was immediately denied because "fine print says no refunds or rescheduling." I emailed again and explained the situation and asked for a little grace and kindness at Christmas...I wasn't asking for anything special, just for them to open the door a little wider that evening to allow two more people access. Denied again, with a "we appreciate your understanding." Well, I DON'T understand. There were two old people with nowhere to go and no family around on Christmas Eve, and this venue didn't have the kindness and compassion to allow us entry, though we had paid for tickets and now have to just lose that money because of a scheduling error and a refusal to show us grace. I hope that it was a lovely time for those who were allowed in. Sadly, we'll never know.

We arrived early for check in, as instructed, but the boat still left after 7pm. The cruising/sailing part was really cool. For this event you were able to bring snacks and drinks and some of the benches turned into tables. The captain played some tunes while we cruised around. It was really cool seeing the lake from the lake! You can easily forget that you are Dallas. I cannot recommend checking out this company enough, and booking a sunset boat tour! This is a historic hotel, one of the oldest in Dallas, and over 100 years old. What I didn't like were the in-room bathrooms that looked outdated. No bathtub is a bummer for me at a high-end hotel. The rooms aren't particularly large, either. For $400-500 bucks a night, you'd hope for a little more luxury but this is an old building. The staff here was incredibly polite and friendly. It is truly beautiful, and this is why I give it 5-stars. I know of the history of famous guests, and talk of being haunted. Cool.

My favorite random detail is that the hotel was outfitted with cutting edge electrical systems (of the time) from Westinghouse during its early years. Made in St. Louis so a home connection. That's where the 1904 World's Fair helped make Westinghouse a household name through its massive electric exhibits and features. So somehow standing in a glamorous Dallas hotel lobby turned into a weirdly specific St. Louis history field trip. The renovation is gorgeous and the team clearly has something special here.
