It seems as though this place has gone downhill since it first opened. Although our waitress is veg nice, the service was pretty slow that last time my husband and I went. My sandwich came out missing a main ingredient, and by the time it was corrected, my husband was halfway done with his meal. The manager comped a beer for the trouble. Unfortunately, the food didn't seem as good as usual. Hopefully it was just a fluke, because I've always liked Hickory Tavern. read more

So we went during the first week of opening and maybe this affects the review. Let me say there is a Chuys in the same shopping center that we went to on opening night just a couple weeks ago and the service was spectacular. Also, I contacted Hickory Tavern's website first as I know this is a chain restaurant and heard nothing in response. As a result I thought I would share my experience. We were flat out disappointed. Again, given that this is the first week of opening, the restaurant was busy. I understand. We got our table after 45 minutes (again perfectly acceptable) and sat...and sat....even after we saw a waitress hitting our neighboring tables we sat for 15 minutes until a manager who was wandering the floor caught my eye and asked if we had been helped. We of course had not so we gave our drink orders and the same waitress who we'd seen earlier appeared to again get our drink orders and since we had waited so long we ordered our food as well. Food was good. My wings were spicy and crispy enough. It's the service that was absolutely awful. Our waitress came by exactly once the whole time we were there to refill our drinks. I did ask when the food came if we could have extra napkins since I was ordering wings and never got them. I had to go to the bar and steal some. She miraculously picked up the speed when it was time to process the bill payment. I've been to Hickory Taverns in Charlotte and enjoyed them. I privately responded to Hickory Tavern and told them of my experience. This was a week ago and no response at all is disappointing. It tells me this is a volume business who doesn't care about individual experiences and as such I won't visit anymore. Go to Chuys. It is great. read more

TOO SALTY!!!! Everything from pimento cheese to chicken salad. Back off on that and maybe it would be edible. read more

This place actually delivers (figuratively). Plenty of screens and fun, friendly staff. The food is also very close to perfect. Admittedly this is preference but I pay attention to detail and this was well worth it. The drawbacks are parking on a crowded day (not their fault). The tables are a jammed in to seat more people which could make it difficult to navigate for larger people. Also that makes it loud and you really get up close and personal the people in adjacent tables. Even the staff seems to bob and weave through from the table to the kitchen. Also, the food takes abnormally long to prepare. It was great when it finally got there Overall I WILL be going back and I may do the take out on occasion. read more

It was decent when it opened, but now it is bad. The service is usually slow and it is slow when they are not busy. The food is below average. Praying that Ruckus moves into that shopping center. read more

Ehhh the drinks are fine. A little bit pricey. We got appetizers and there was little difference in the flavor between the spinach dip and crab dip. The service was quick though. read more

Went in for late lunch at a time the restaurant was clearly not busy. There were MANY empty tables but none of them clean making it hard for the hostess to find a place to seat us. Before even ordering we were so grossed out by the tables around and how filthy they were as well as food all over the carpeting we weren't sure if we should order. It was disappointing to see the restaurant in such a mess and 3-4 servers at any given time standing around and talking. We had finished our meal before and cleaning around us was done. We had once before tried this location and were disappointed in the food but this time the filth and lack of willingness to maintain a clean environment leave us no choice other than to never return. read more

Two recent visits here. The first probably 4 stars; the second, maybe 3 stars. The best thing on the menu is a side - the Brussels Sprouts, which they really need to offer as an appetizer as well. The Kale salad was a huge disappointment, as the leaves were enormous and not cut. In fact, they weren't able to be cut with the butter knife provided. The good news was that the manager was engaged, and understood our frustration and quickly removed it from the bill. The rest of the food was acceptable but not outstanding. Servers still have a ways to go. read more

Great bar and great staff! Allie, our waitress, took great care of us. Will be back again!

What a fun experience tonight! Our server, Frye (sp?), was fun and on point! The food was exceptionally good. The Brussel sprout salad was delicious...who knew? Great atmosphere. We sat outside and enjoyed listening to the live music too! read more

The service started off very slow and then got better. The food was your typical pub food. We ordered the hummus and qusedilla app. It was nothing special. They do have a good selection of local beer. I realize this just opened so I will give them some time to work things out and maybe try them again in a few months . read more

Great service and food was good. I had build your own salad and husband had French dip sandwich. Love the salad in a chilled stainless steel bowl! Not our first visit and certainly will not be our last. read more

Hickory Tavern is a great atmosphere for having fun! The service is always stellar, the managers make sure to stop by tables regularly, and the food is consistently great! It's the best place to go to catch any game and they're always happy to make sure to change TV's so you have a great angle from wherever you sit. They always go above and beyond if you have special requests to accommodate. There is a gluten free menu too. I would highly recommend coming for trivia on Wednesday nights at 8. read more

Have been here for both drinks and lunch. Very standard bar food with decent selection on tap. Lots of screens for viewing which makes this a decent choice come football season and march madness. Wings were mediocre at best. Everyone at the table preferred hooters. Slow service for lunch considering it was a weekday and after 1:30pm. Took over 40 minutes to be served entrees. Colleagues enjoyed their nachos though the large was large enough to feed 4. Not a big fan of their brussel sprouts. Lesson learned in ordering brussel sprouts at a bar. read more

Excellent service-especially considering they just opened. Accommodated a party of 8 adults and 9 kids without an issue. Food was fantastic! Will definitely return read more

Crazy atmosphere, frenetic energy with too many TVs and no where to look without seeing something foolish. If that's your vibe, then cool, have at it. Standard menu, beers, etc. it may be just me, or my age, but after a long day at work this is not a place to relax unless there's a specific game on you want to see. Service is fine, and there's plenty of free parking. read more

First and final visit. Service was so-so. Food was not good AT ALL for what I ended up paying for totally bland battered fish which were more batter than fish. The chips were so salty we couldn't even eat them. Plus they had a really odd consistency, not like any chips I have ever had elsewhere. Ordered the brownie for desert and that was the only good thing at our table. I don't drink alcohol, nor soda so I had water, yet my bill alone was $21+, not including tip! GASP! I feel like I was robbed and I am so pissed off. I could have eaten a great decent tasty meal at an upscale restaurant at that rate! A manager or host walked around with a scowl on his face the entire time we were there. He walked by our table and vaguely asked if everything was good, didn't even wait for our response! Kept walking as we tried to talk, with a 'I don't really give a crap' look on his face. Huge disappointment, as I was so looking forward to this place opening up, since friends and I use this shopping center often, for movies and all. Taking this place off the list for sure. read more

I have been here twice with my wife and kids. Both times it was packed and we had great experiences. The service was good and the atmosphere was lively and fun, with lots of televisions on a variety of sports and programs. The food is solid. The burgers are good and the blackened shrimp tacos are amazing. They serve good drinks and have a good selection of draft beers. We are fans and will keep coming back. read more

One of my top five places to eat! I've ordered several diff things from there and loved every one of them. The ranch is the bomb which is a big plus for me, i'm a ranch connoisseur lol. I do however have one negative but its not enough to keep me from going there. There have been more than a few times where the wait was a little longer than I like. The employees are wonderful and attentive though. read more

Great beer selection, but it doesn't reflect their menu. Every time I order something they seem to be out or replaced. Here's the kicker! They ran out of crab legs 2 hours into their all-you-can eat crab night! Seriously. After 1 round of skimpy crab legs they wanted me, and everyone around me, to pay full price. Ametuer hour. Since then I've been back twice and been sick twice. Food is typical bar food all the way through. No culinary expertise here. read more

This place is alright. We went on a Friday night and there was about a 20 minute wait and then they sat us at a high top bar table, which is uncomfortable and not a table I would ever wait for. The tv's are so loud in this place you can't even hear yourself think. My wife had a strawberry margarita that looked like strawberry lemonade and was weak... It was also over $8 for Cuervo (way overpriced). Wings were alright, their Caribbean jerk is sweet instead of being spicy, so not what I wanted and we were charged for subbing celery for carrots. Another thing, their hosts are awkward and not welcoming. I got a text that our table was ready and walked up to the host stand to 3 females staring at us and didn't ask us anything. We had to ask if our table was ready, like why else would we be standing here??? It was strange. read more

Great food & service. I recommend the smothered chicken. This was our first trip here but will definitely be back.

Went after work with colleague to have a drink. It was a horrible experience. We will not go back. We sat in the bar and ordered 2 waters and 2 dirty Gin martinis Waiter came back and asked if we wanted those on the rocks or frozen. Really??? I said we ordered martinis. The bar waiter was still waiting for an answer!! My college finally said shaken. The waiter went away and never brought us waters. He finally Brought us vodka NOT gin martinis. NOT dirty. Had two olives NO olive juice. How can a bar not know what a dirty martini is. Pretty basic and simple. We were going to order food. Needless to say we left after the first drink. Horrible!!! read more

Have been to Hickory Tavern several times and overall my experiences have been very good. They have an extensive beer list and their mixed drinks are good. My favorite meal there so far has been the salmon with sides of brussel sprouts and baked potato. Delicious and relatively healthy. I also love that they have plenty of outdoor seating!! read more

4 stars a month ago. 3 stars today. Love the atmosphere, hoping for some competition down the road on 55 or in same mall. Food is always ok. Prices are reasonable. On two separate occasions, I was overcharged, on wing day special noted on billboard outside of tavern. Turns out , you don't get the special unless you ask for it, or the server goes to second scene & applies the discount. Seems like a bad system for specials they have quite often. Manager laughed when questioned. he said we catch most of them. Guy next me on the left noticed it, and the person on my right also noticed it. So it's likely they don't catch it. just make it a habit to check bill at this place every time. I know I will. read more

Dreadfully noisy, horrible service and nasty tasting food. We will never go back!!!

Nice enough. The service was pretty good although that might have been because we ate early for dinner (5pm ish).

Sitting with my family in Carolina Ale House at the Brier Creek Raleigh location. If you are gluten free for any reason do NOT come to this location. I asked if they had a gluten free menu. The answer was "no, we threw them away and are not allowed to talk about it" I wasn't sure what that meant but ok. So looking over the menu about to order I questioned if wheat is used as a thickener in their sauces. The answer was "I'm just going to have to have a manager come and talk to you. We aren't allowed to talk about it" I told her I couldn't order. She said that was fine and a manger never came to discuss. The lack of compassion and decency is lost on me. How could an establishment be so cruel. read more

Poor customer service. Wings undercooked and getting a server to come back after you've received your order is impossible. I am disappointed. read more

I WAS a very frequent customer of this restaurant before tonight. We decided to go for my fiancées birthday dinner. They told us there would be a 15 minute wait for a booth which shocked me considering there was 3 empty booths behind the hostess waiting to seat me. Whatever, I let that go and they sat us near the bar area at a high top table. We waited 30 minutes for someone to come by to get our drink order. Several waitresses/waiters passed us several times with not so much as a "Has anyone waited on y'all yet?" When I explained this to the young girl at the front her only response was a very unapologetic "I'm sorry." Food is decent from times before but service has always been horrible! read more

Service was poor but I figured it was due to still being fairly new. Food was tasteless. We ordered apps and food and nothing had flavor. Not even the wings. We live close by and wouldnt go back. read more

The food looked really good but I didn't get to try it. I waited for service so long that I was asked to move, by the staff. When I moved I still didn't get even a drink order. So I left, eating alone blows. read more

We called ahead. They said 20-30 minutes. In 15 minutes when we showed up, they said we didn't call ahead and it would be 30 minutes. Okay. So after 45 minutes, we checked in and they said they were waiting for a table to leave. When we said we were leaving they said they could seat us in the back.. Forget it. They sat so many people in front of us. Will not be going back. Can't judge the food because they never sat us. read more

This restaurant suffers from uncaring service, bad food, and over priced items. Service was mediocre, waitress checked back at end of meal to clean plates off table. No "2 bite" check to see if everything tasted okay. When food was dropped off by a different server, he asked if I wanted another beverage as he walked away from the table. I was confused if the question was directed at me because I've never had a conversation with the back of someone's head. If our server had bothered to check on us while we ate, we would have had the opportunity to tell her that the fish tacos were inedible. The tortillas were like rubber and my wife (who was starving) just ate the interior of the tacos. I mean it was seriously a joke how tough the tortillas were, they would be better suited as frisbees. But because we had no check back, we could not tell her until the end. She told us that it would be removed from the bill, but of course it wasn't. Finally I ordered a side of onion rings ($3.50) to go with my wings. 6 onion rings came out, which means they are charging $.60 per onion ring. That's a pretty steep price for slices of breaded and fried onions. All in all Hickory Tavern is just another lackluster corporate trough that suffers from boring food and poorly trained servers. If you enjoy staring slack-jawed at TV's and eating frozen food then this might be for you. read more

i went twice. first time, i waited a long time for anyone to serve me at the bar. the food was ok, not terrible, definitely edible, and beer was good. i like their scheme for building a salad. but i waited a long time to get my check. the second time i went, i actually happened to notice the exact time i sat down. again, a long wait for even an acknowledgement from any staff, so i decided if nobody came within 15 minutes i would leave. that is exactly what happened, so i left and will not return. i wish there were a decent bar near that spot, bc i live so close - eventually there will be. read more

I give this place a one (1) only because my second time there was an horrible experience. First time there, some friends and I went to go bowl and there weren't any lanes available yet. To waste time we are agreed we could eat. We walk over to hickory tavern. Come in, get seated promptly. It was six of us. Service was average considering it was busy an packed when we got there. Food was great. Fast forward to about two weeks later, I return with a friend. I come back because the meal I had, shrimp & grits an a side cluster of crab legs were delicious. Once I came back, it was a little later than the last time. They don't serve the entire menu after a certain time. Understandable. I find something else on the menu an order. I order the fried loaded potato bites. Food arrives. I eat one of the bites. Pretty good. In the midst of conversing i notice the next potato bite had something burnt on it... I figure maybe fried a little hard, something says look closer. I look an see wings!!!!!! It's a fly fried into my food. Tell the waitress, she's like OMG (oh my Gosh) I can't believe it AGAIN! What?? Again... Manager comes over, says the same thing. I'm sorry can't believe it happened again. We have been having problems with the bugs & flys so we started keeping doors shut. So comps the entire meal. I leave. read more
