Was a little disappointed. Was hoping for more smoked meats. Service was good, but menu very generic.

My family decided to give this spot a try because it was a close location. It was a 15-20 minute wait for four adults and a toddler right around 6pm. The booth was huge which helped my toddler and cleaned well. There were so many TVs it was a bit distracting. Our serve must have been handling the section by herself. We waited over 30 minutes for our first greeting. We all knew what we were having so we ordered our whole meals right away and all got waters. The appetizers cane out cold and we almost made it through our whole meals before getting drink refills. Our entrees came out at a decent time together. What really got to me was that it's a "family friendly, kid friendly" but there was not any changing tables in the bathrooms. read more

My mother told me if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all. This meal had nutritious value, but other than that nothing really good to say....my aunt Lisa could've cooked a better meal for free, but the restaurant looks good a lot of large flat screen tv's if you wanna watch the game. read more

Have been avoiding this place as I come here to get a baked potato as a side item with dinner. The last few times we came they were out so thought why not give them another shot?? Well here we are again and you guessed it out of baked potatoes! Seriously how can a restaurant be so slack??? If it is on your menu DO NOT run out!! No excuse especially not over and over again. Not to mention the patio has several dirty tables all around us that no one is taking the time to clean. This surely will be our last trip here. Very disappointed!! read more

Second visit with work colleagues (group of 9). 1st server vanished, and a 2nd server assisgned (both very pleasant) but no explanation given. During my first visit the turkey sandwich was very nice, the lobster roll for my second visit was not worth the money ($17+), the bread too greasy and salty. I would not have written a Yelp review but trying to contact the corporate office through Facebook or Twitter has not been successful. read more

Hickory Tavern - Is this worth $17+????? - American Near Me - Cary, North Carolina

Hickory Tavern is really good hotspot for happy hour. It was very crowded up until about 7. The beer selection is good and the food is okay. It's a great place to meet up with some folks after work. read more

My husband and I went to the Hickory Tavern Sunday afternoon for appetizers and a beer . We sat outside on the patio and had a very good time . We had the BBQ chicken nachos and the Ahi tuna , they were both delicious . Our service was quick and very friendly . The patio was pet friendly which was great because we brought our small dog with us . We highly recommend this place. read more

They didn't have Rosé for the Rosé Spritzer and the wings were barely cooked. The skin wasn't crispy at all or seasoned. I literally just pulled the meat of the bone and barely ate that. The best part about wings is the crispy skin and I didn't receive that. The only good thing in my meal was the tater tots. Other than that the whole food experience was horrible and I would never go here for wings again. Absolutely a waste of money. read more

Came almost an hour before closing because we were running around all day and were starving. I hate going close to closing because service sucks and it pisses kitchen off but despite timing our server Chris was super delightful. Food was spot on and overall service was far beyond a hickory tavern. Everything was hot and tasted fresh service was great and it was an amazing ending to a long day. Crushed it ! read more

Came here with a bunch of colleagues for dinner and the atmosphere was great. TV's all around showing just about every sport there is. Food-wise, the Pow Wow Shrimp appetizer was great. For entree, I had Maryland Jumbo Crab Cakes. It was seasoned and cooked just right without being too greasy, so I could actually taste the crab meat. Then there was the bingo song game that everyone was hooked on and we all had a blast! read more

one of the worst experience I have.I'm not going back again. I don't want to write the whole worst experience here but I can tell you few.first they didn't come to ask what we need for 5-10 min even though there were only 5-8 people in the restaurant.second when we ordered he got wrong food and again he charged us extra for something we didn't ordered and my son found a hair in his food. They don't have minimum courtesy to say that they are sorry for what they have done to us .Please don't go for their setup. The food is not at all fresh. read more

I don't often give a 1-star review, but when I do, the place is deserving of it. My husband and I went here for a lunch together on a rare day off for him. We were seated on the patio at approx. 11:40am and given a beer menu and 2 regular menus. We were waited on within 10 minutes and each ordered a beer from the beer menu. We received our beers and proceeded to close our food menus and drink our beers. After 20 additional minutes, our food orders were finally taken and our second drinks were ordered. Proceed to wait over another 30 minutes before someone comes back with our second beers and asks if we are doing ok. This happened to be another waiter. Our own waiter was missing in action. Our food came after another 10 minutes during which our waiter came back and gave us chips and salsa to try to placate us until our food came. When our food came, it was wrong. They had assigned us another waitress during this time who had no idea what was happening. The manager and another waiter helped all this happen. We still don't know why our food was never put in or how it eventually came. The best compliment I can give them is that they worked as a team to try to rectify the issue and they comp'd our sandwiches (which was the least they could have done based on their incompetence). We'd like to hope there was simply a timing or waiter-specific issue, but we tend to believe things like this happen when management doesn't do their job. Try another location or another restaurant. read more

Arrived on a Saturday afternoon and decided to sit at the bar for a late lunch. We were greeted quickly with a smiling bartender. She brought our drinks right away but never asked if we were just drinking or if we wanted food. (me ordering water should have been a hint since sitting at the bar), After asking for menus, then having to ask for some menu recommendations she went on her way. Almost 10 minutes went and she still never came back to see if we were ready. We flagged down the other bartender guy and he happily took our order. They leave your bar ticket in a glass in front of you so I looked at the ticket at the order time. It was 3:13. By 3:42 and an empty water glass, I flagged down the guy again to ask if the kitchen was backed up or if there was a problem. He replied that there was a large party backing up the kitchen. FInally within 3 minutes of asking our food appeared. I ordered the food truck special grilled chicken with yellow rice and a spicy red and white sauce. BF ordered the philly cheesesteak with fries. The food was hot and average bar food. Nothing special or different. The portions were good. Neither bartender came by to ask how the food was or if we needed anything. Mine was spicy and again my water glass sat empty for the entire meal, I was using the ice cubes to cool my mouth. They seem to be catering to some friends at the end of the bar and she was constantly on her cell phone and cashing out her bar tabs checking her tips. We could hear ther talking about it. She walked by time and time again as we were by the service bar side and still could not get her attention. The empty plates sat and we asked for the check. This is when she gave us the most attention when she saw the CC sitting in the glass with the tab. She quickly responded then and after again nothing, The atmosphere is fun and lively with a lot of TV's if your into watching then game. They have a huge selection of beers on tap. This is your typical sports bar with just ok bar food which is no excuse for bad service.....ever. Sorry this was so long and I don't usually write reviews but was very disappointed with the long wait for our food without being notified and the horrible service. read more

The only reason they get a 3 is that the bar staff is awesome and they are the best place to watch any kind of sports. Literally not a bad seat in the house for that. Now the problem......the food. Six wings, 3 fine 3 raw on more than one occasion. You cant screw up chili right? Wrong......hot on edges and block of frozen chili in the middle. Asked for another batch and it came back hot as hell on the edges and luke warm in the middle......microwave failure. Nachos are piled sky high but all the good stuff is only on the top. After a couple minutes you are just eating chips. Spread it out man! The only thing good there they took off the menu and that leaves tater tots which are excellent. Sad when your signature dish is tater tots and they aren't even in duck fat! Great for sports games though! read more

I really like Hickory Tavern for multiple reasons. It's walking distance to a computer class my son attends in the shopping center so I'm there about once a week. The waitstaff is always attentive and usually talkative. The food is typical bar food, but maybe a little better than average. The best part about this place is the dozens of beers on tap, lots of tvs, and friendly staff. Give it a shot and maybe it will become your regular watering hole! read more

What can I say ? This is like my go to place , I have definitely been here way too many times . Mainly because it's so close to home and the staff is super friendly . If you do wanna watch a game this is def the place to go since they have the most TVs in a restaurant . Food is pretty good , good wings ! Close to the movie theater so perfect for a dinner and a movie night ! Decent summer time outdoor seating available as well ! Def a more happening spot than some of the other restaurants in the area. read more

We went on Sunday with cousins. Our first time there. We were seated immediately which was appreciated. All TVs going and you didn't have to watch sports. Four of us had the special Bloody Mary. Hottest one I've ever had but it was good. Jasmine was our server and did a fine job keeping up with everything we needed. I had the charred wings flats only. They were happy to accommodate. I thought they were good although salty. The broccoli was good as well. Others had the fried chicken sandwich, California chicken sandwich and Tavern burger. Everyone had a clean plate but me. 8 wings were more than I could handle. They did not go to waste. We will go back. read more

So weird, tons of open tables even with covid, told it would be a wait because the kitchen was backed up. Said we primarily where there for drinks and don't mind waiting for the food, told we still had to wait to be seated even if we went to the bar. Guy right after us says can I sit at the bar and she says help yourself... so weird she even confirmed and said the Manager said that was the deal read more

We love Hickory Tavern. Awesome service. Excellent food. My favorite is the 'Build Your Own Salad' - plentiful and fresh for sure. The hot pretzel - holy cow. Delicious!!!!! The wait staff is friendly and fun. Alex has waited on us a few times and is always fun and attentive. The manager, Jamie - is - by far - the best I've come across in a long time. Friendly, gets to know his clients, and makes you feel at home. If you are looking for a family friendly environment, a place to watch a game, or just want a great meal from a variety of choices - you need to visit Hickory Tavern in Parkside Commons!!! read more

We come here quite a bit for lunch and the service is always good and I like the food but today I had the "lemon pepper tavern fish sandwich" and it was DELICIOUS. Will definitely keep coming! read more

Had an early dinner here. We were seated right away but waited a very long time for a server. No other employee acknowledged our long wait with our menus. The restaurant was not busy at all and seemed adequately staffed. Our food was bland and cold... After a long wait. If you want somewhere to watch a game and only drink beer and don't mind slow service, you will be happy. However we will not be returning. read more

What a bummer! We've ate and drank here before and tonight was a total bait and switch. We had a party of 9, and gave them ample time to get our table ready and seat us because some of our party hadn't arrive yet. Once we were seated our waitress promptly greeted us, and that's where the good service ended. We had all finished our drinks and food still had not come out. Our server was nowhere to be found. We flagged down another employee to hunt her down. Finally our food starts coming out. But wait- the two orders of tacos with a side of tots are not ready yet....so my fiancé and I started eating his low country boil. How over cooked can a shrimp get? Well eat at Hickory Tavern and you'll find out. When my fish tacos finally made it to the table over THIRTY-MINUTES later...the server set for a plate of two tacos that were shell, lettuce and grilled shrimp. WHAT the ??? I asked her if she would take them back and have whatever is supposed to be on them added and you would have thought I had 10 heads she was so confused. You mean tacos are supposed to have pico or salsa or cheese? What in the world???! Meanwhile our over cooked tots arrive as the rest of our party are wrapping up their meals. I literally stabbed a fork in it and it flew across the dining room. Finally the tacos arrive fully dressed! YAY- but wait, one bite in and it's a rubbery, barely chewable shrimp with the shell still on! Hickory Taverns kitchen proves at least they are consistent in being epically terrible! It takes a certain amount of skill to royally mess up what is quite possibly the two easiest dishes to prepare on the menu. Combine an inattentive server with a lazy kitchen staff = a very bad experience. Side note- one of the "managers" was sitting by the hostess stand texting and on his cell phone the entire time. And when a manager did finally come out...it was when we were ready for our bill. The only reason this gets two stars is because my Martini was extra dirty so props to the bartender for doing their job!! read more

First time here. Loved the Philly cheesesteak with the sweet potato fries. Great local brown beer on draft. Service was great. Can't ask for anything more. read more

Been looking for a good place to eat wings in the Cary area since I recently moved here. This place so far places #1. The server was very personable and we loved how well he took care of us. Everyone at the table enjoyed the food. We had the nachos for an appetizer and it almost ruined the meal because it filled us up. It is on the expensive side compared to some joints. They have lots of televisions and would be a great place on game day or on a cool day where you can sit outside. read more

This restaurant is consistently hit or miss, I'm very sad to report. It starts at the confused host(ess) stand when there is a wait. It then extends to unenthusiastic servers, and meals that don't arrive for all small-table patrons at the same time. It's bar food, nothing is truly unique. I always try to support my local neighborhood establishments. Nine (9) visits to Hickory Tavern proves that, with multiple friends and colleagues, but no more. read more

Stopped into hickory today to enjoy a couple of beers on the spacious outdoor patio. Courtney F was a fantastic server and made sure we had a great time. if you guys stop in, make sure you ask for her section read more

Food is actually good for a big menu with a lot to choose from. We like it and will continue to return.

Went there today 04/06/2017 at around 420pm.The service was great, very friendly however I tried the traditional po'boy and it was extremly salty ... I wounded up eating just the shrimp. I might give it another try its very close to my house so will keep everyone posted... read more

"Hot and Cold". I've been here several times. I loved the health salad. I also really enjoyed the hummus appetizer. But recently I went there and I saw they had fish and chips. I asked the waiter if he recommended it and he very proudly told me it was one of their most popular dishes. So I ordered it. Well, it was HORRIBLE. The fish was so overcooked and dry. It was like eating a brittle piece of cardboard. I was very disappointed. They do have a good selection of draft beers. But I have definitely experienced better. read more

Freezing inside. Hostess sat me outside. Manager had to bring menu. Waited 15 mins. Went to bar to get drink she said would send server. Waited 15 more mins. Ordeded at bar. Made 7 trips in. Drink..order..condiments...napkins..ranch that i ordered at bar with food. Refill.. Box that i was not allowed to get because BOGO. The food thrown in bag. Had to tip 3 different folks. Came to do work and i am sitting in compmete darkness. One light works. Can not believe the horrible sevice. Will never return. I have spent my life in this industry and this is sad. It is monday night and not busy. Manager knew and still never got server. read more

Pretty good. The biggest perk is the covered outdoor seating so our dog was able to eat lunch with us! The food is good, not great, but good for a quick easy experience. On par with chili's, maybe a bit better! read more

We moved to the Cary area a few months ago and have eaten at the Hickory Tavern several times. The food is consistently good, the service is great and it's a good family atmosphere. Deserves more than three star rating. Worth a try if you have not eaten there. read more

Our server was great. Very friendly and made suggestions. The following was NONE of our servers fault. My dad and I both got wings. He got traditional wings and I got the Charred wings. Dads food came out first with an apology from the server and noted mine would be right out. My dads order was cold so we sent it back. Mine then came out to no complaints. My dads food never came back out until after we paid our bill and we're ready to leave. The issue besides the kitchen ticket times was the fact that the shift manager did seemingly nothing about it except a 10% discount of the wings. I watched her congregate with the wait staff and stroll around with no sense of urgency. Having run several businesses myself I was turned off immediately. It was a shame. read more

Went for a birthday party a few weeks ago. The waiter was great! The back room we were seated in was really nice and pretty quiet. The food was good (tater tots were awesome) but unfortunately I was up sick all night from what I assume was food poisoning. I thought it may have been a fluke or a bug but come to find out 2 other people from the group also got sick the same night. Not sure what happened but thought I'd mention it. read more

The food portions are good. It is your pretty typical sports bar atmosphere. However, the service is slow. My daughters and I were there last night before going to a performance in Durham. We arrived at 5:25pm and had to be in Durham by 7:20pm. Plenty of time. However, we had a very long wait between getting the appetizer and food. We left at 6:40pm. There was no reason for our dinner to take so long, but this has been our experience more than once. read more

Disappointed again, we want to like this restaurant because it is close to our house and has lots of TV's. Service is not very good and food has taken an hour to arrive the 5 times we have eaten here. Management needs to kick this location in gear. read more

We were enjoying dinner and drinks at the Cary location on Saturday night when a man came in with his dog (not a service animal). The man had a leash in his hand but proceeded to let his dog roam around the dining area without a leash. I care not to have a dog sniffing around my table when I'm eating. Management was slow to do anything. We won't eat at this establishment again. read more

Tonight was the first time any of my family has eaten at a Hickory Tavern. There were 4 adults(including myself) and 1 child. Things were going good until we got our food. Everyone got their food but my husband. The waitress finally came over and you could tell she could t remember what he got. She came back about 10 minutes later that saying she forgot to put his order in and they were going to quickly make it for him. He ordered the shrimp boil. The manager came over apologizing and offering him a salad or something. Of course my husband said no, he would just wait for his food. They brought it out about the time we were all finishing up. Then they didn't even comp his meal. After we paid and were fixing to go my husband confessed that the food was cold but didn't want to make a big deal about it. So, I will probably never go back again. Two of the most important things about a restaurant are the food and service. If you can't get those right then you're failing as a restaurant. If you're wanting to eat at a GOOD tavern go to either My Way Tavern(Holly Springs) or Mason Jar(Holly Springs/Fuquay). read more

So the food was great then I thought it would be. everything was fresh and crispy as it should be. The bread was soft and tasted fresh. nothing had that left out all day taste. It very clean place with a lot of room. th eonly issue I had was everytime I tried to order a drink they where some how out of something. it got to the point where I didn't want to order anything but water. But I tried one last time and the drink that I did order was so good that I got another one. it nobody fauilt that they were out of it but it did upset me that they was out of something on three different drinks I try to order. read more
