Came to the establishment with my cousin for a slight New Years meal. To start off we had their chips and queso (wouldn't recommend) queso tasted like generic melted cheese with tomatoes and chives. After receiving appetizer we both ordered Tavern burgers she got the baked potato and I got the Brussel sprouts. Burger was a 6 oz frozen burger nothing too special and baked potato was slightly burnt. Within this experience the only thing I can say I thoroughly enjoyed was the service and Brussel sprouts. read more

Sean is an outstanding example of management. He made sure we were taken care of and when we had a problem he immediately fixed the problem and made sure it was correct. He even offered up suggestions for dinner in downtown the next night! This was a great experience and it's all because of the leadership that is at this location of the Hickory Tavern. Thank you for making our dinner incredible! read more

Don't order the oysters. There was a small decomposing crab sitting on top of one in plain view. They didn't bother washing the shells so sand and was all over the plate and the oyster. read more

Hickory Tavern - Don't Oder the oysters. Small decomposing crab on top. So dirty it made mud on the plate, oyster was covered in sand. - American Near Me - Cary, North Carolina

Shrimp p'boy and fries were excellent - very good flavor 8 shrimp and about 14 fries - outdoor seating is nice - loud inside - lots of big screens - service okay coordination not that great but friendly read more

The service was great.. food portions where horrible! Food was almost cold. Not worth the money unless you come here to get a beer and watch tv. Don't pay 10.75 for the food totally not worth it... attached are my buffalo chicken tacos.. read more

I give this place a 5 star so, here are some reasons why I think this... First of all there are tons of TV's, if i were to count all of them, I would say about 20-30. There food is also really good, I got there wings which were amazing. Their bathrooms were also very clean. read more

Went for dinner on NFL Thursday. Called ahead and they kept a table for two which was great as they were very busy. Service was fast friendly and not over doding, and easy to get her attention when we needed something. Good beer selection. She gladly swapped out second beer I tried - didn't care for its taste - shrimp were awesome. Chicken Colorado is a beautiful plateful and tasted yummy. 'Merica burger very good, forgot the tomato so she brought me some and lettuce and mayo - I miss read the fixings for that burger but she got me what I asked for no extra charge. We were out ranked by the tarheel fans for the big tv, they had requested it, but manager gladly but the NFL game on the screens facing us so we didn't have to twist necks. We will be back for sure, will bring the dog next time and sit in the covered outdoor area. read more

Exemplary service. Our waiter, John, and the manager on duty, Kareem, went above and beyond to ensure our satisfaction. Steak was cooked perfectly and kids loved their wings and burger. Looking forward to our next visit. Thank you! read more

I was there a few months ago and had the rudest bartender in the area. Along with that the time it took the food to come out and drinks be served was horrendous. Figured I'd try again. Walked up and saw 10-12 tables outside. Was told it would be a 30-40 minute wait. I asked "even for the tables aside" and was hit with a snotty "yep" from some young girl who took that job real serious. Not sure what's going on there but I won't be back and probably time for some new management that can get things in order. read more

I had high expectations for this place after seeing the menu and previous reviews. Our service wasn't the fastest and my order was delivered incorrectly and we had to ask the waitress more than once to bring us our dressings. We ordered chicken sandwich and boneless wings but the "boneless wings" are basically just fried chicken tenders? The food tasted great though and the menu offers a decent selection. I would definitely go back because I feel like this place can do better! read more

This is my second attempt eating here. The first time I would rate the service around 4 stars. The food here is nothing to really write about, it's just average bar food. What deserves attention is the total lack of service. I understand that lunchtime most places get busy, but when we arrived we were the only people their. So after dipping off our drinks and taking our order we never saw our waitress until she dropped off our check. She and the other servers spent more of the time talking to each other or visiting with the couple behind us. When we asked the hostess to get us a refill, she acted like she was getting but walked around the tables to get back to her perch -- never once getting our drinks or asking someone to assist. read more

Ok, this is the second HT I've visited and sadly I'm still at 2 stars. I ordered the Jerk Chicken sandwich which was extremely dry and tough! The sandwich was bad... just chicken covered in sauce (not Jerk sauce at all) However the staff is really friendly. read more

When I first visited this restaurant several months ago, I was disappointed in the service. However, the last two times were different. Our service and food greatly improved. It takes time for a restaurant to get acclimated to its environment and population, but this restaurant has definitely found its niche! The crab cakes and shrimp tacos were delicious! Great job, Hickory Tavern. Try it. You won't be disappointed. read more

Had dinner here Sunday night with my sister and her boyfriend. Everything tasted amazing, we all got different entrées and were all quite pleased with what we ordered. Our server, Faith, was amazing. She was professional, friendly, and quite knowledgeable about the menu. She helped to recommend items on the menu when we had questions. Highly recommend this place if you are wanting some solid food for a good price, and highly recommend Faith as a server. We will be back, for sure, and will be requesting her service without a doubt. The beer menu also featured many local craft beers, which was a nice plus! read more

I loved the Hickory Tavern in Pinehurst, but there wasn't one up in RTP for forever. This one just opened up and I was very hopeful that it would be a similar experience. So far I've been here twice for lunch during work and once for a happy hour with my friends and it has been great. Very laid back vibe, the food is consistently great (just like in Pinehurst!!), and our server Forest was fantastic (very knowledgeable about the menu and very friendly). Get the tots. Yum. Or if you're feeling like you should be a bit healthier, grab their build your own salad. Six toppings, protein of your choice, any base and dressing. Make sure you eat the butter bun too. read more

If I could leave a 0 star review.... I would!! Large party booking is advertised here on yelp but they don't stick to that!! My family and I had a reservation for Tuesday 11/12/2019 at 7pm for a specific seating area in this restaurant. We arrived on time to find out that our reserved seating had been given away to another party. We drove over an hour to have dinner, with our children, and were very excited about trying this establishment for the first time. When attempting to speak to the manager, she would not even make eye contact with me, she kept looking to another member of my family and half heartedly apologizing. Needless to say we drove down to Mellow Mushroom and were seated in a timely fashion where we received EXCELLENT service. Hickory Tavern lost out on a significant amount of revenue that night, so their loss!! read more

This may just be our new hot spot! This place is a good size and has a lot of tv which every guy loves. The wait staff was very attentive and fast. Our food was delicious! They have a good size beer selection as well. The manager came over and made sure everything was how it should be (which it was). We will surely be back. Give this place a try and you won't be disappointed. read more

OK, so after having moved to N.C. I can now start giving some reviews of the local establishments. We met a friend at Hickory Tavern and I will say it is a nice place, a little loud at times for conversation, but it did have quite the mix of things going on with the bar area and main eating area. The menu is varied and has a large assortment of burgers, sandwiches, salads and other tasty entrees. The drink menu is large and they have quite a bit of adult beverages available. I had the Grilled Chicken Sandwich with french fries and it was OK, the chicken was kind of chewy and stringy, but it tasted OK. My wife had the Tavern Burger which she stated was one of the best burgers she has ever had. So, based off of that I give Hickory Tavern 4 stars, maybe I will try the Tavern Burger next time and we will see how it stacks up for me. read more

Look, I understand high-volume cooking as much as the next person. I know you have to prep ahead. I know this. But, there are things that you have to stop the prep prior to the cooking process .. fried foods, chief among them. Now don't get me wrong, The fried food wasn't the only unsatisfactory item I was served. The chicken was cold too. I had the Colorado chicken ... I ordered it because the menu said scallions, and my brain thought scallops ... I thought I was getting a deal ... but no ... at any rate, it was evident that the chicken breast was cooked ahead of time, and covered in BBQ sauce, bacon, cheese and tossed under a broiler (or, some such apparatus) for a few minutes to melt the cheese. It was melted, to the "chefs" credit. However, even if the chicken breast was heated in a microwave before broiling (or toasting, whatever), it wasn't heated to a decent temperature. It was flavorful. When you slather something in bacon and BBQ, it's going to be good, almost no matter what it is. Now to the fried product. We've all had french fries at a fast food place where the sit around under a heat lamp well past their expiration time. Well, it's that, with tater tots at 4 times the price. A sit down place with a bar, and a wait staff you have to look in the face and tell them the food is cold and just plain not good. They take it back, and the "chef" says they "just made it" and they bring you the same ice cold heat-lamp baked stuff you just rejected. I cooked before ... many years ... I know he or she was lying. Plain and simple. Twenty minutes old, at a minimum. Now, I was all ready to short the waitresses their tip, because the cooks are screwed up, and then some dude in a blue shirt (apparently from the kitchen area ... I don't know, he may or may not have been management ... I don't care) .. and asked me how stuff was. I told him the tater tots were cold, and he proceeded to tell me he "was back there." and they were fresh. I've been eating my whole entire life man. Don't tell me something was fresh when it was cold and stale. There is literally nothing beside breathing I have done more of in my entire existence. Just make fresh tater tots. That's all. The beer selection was good. The wait staff seemed at wits end with the whole thing. Plus one star. Other than that, get a new kitchen (and very possibly management) staff. read more

Food was average tasting and nothing special. Waitress was horrible. Place could be cleaner. Took forever to get drinks and forgot one of our friends drink. Gave up asking. We won't be back. read more

You must try the queso for cheesy goodness. Hubby loved the Colorado Chicken. The homemade chips rock as do the french fries. This was my first ever fish taco and it was good. The child ordered the steak sandwich which she liked but could have used a little more filling in portion to the bread. Overall great experience and awesome service! Oh try the tavern cake adult beverage read more

Have been coming here pretty regularly- sometimes it feels like the only place within our "little" Morrisville that is decent inside and keeps the kitchen open late like The Ale House does. That said this place can be hit or miss. Most of the time this place is GREAT- they have a phenomenal cheesesteak and we love to order their chicken tenders as an appetizer. Occasionally though the staff can seem some what out of it or just lets the ball drop. (Cold gumbo anyone?) for the price they need to work on their attitude. read more

Overall lousy. Music was too loud and I was a pro musician for 10 years. Food is considerably overpriced, especially since it was mediocre. Server didn't know food or beers. $10+ for a regular ol burger. You must be nuts, avoid this dump. I will never be back. read more

Really good shrimp and grits, best one in a long time, made to order and accommodating with removing some ingredients. Server was a star of the night. Attentive, but not overly to the point where it gets annoying. He looked like he really enjoys what he is doing in a genuine way, which is refreshing to see. Hickory is always a fun place to go to. I like that they put up the black screens when it gets warmer outside, but several people got confused after a few drinks and walked straight into them. read more

they advertised on website they had reubens and then when we got there they said sorry. my husband orders a burger with mayo and his burger was half done before he got his mayo and waitress said only 2 people working. I was there this past Saturday night and at first it was a bit disappointing because we hadn't seen a server for about 5 minutes. Lisa was just coming in the patio door and stopped and asked if we had been taken care of and when we told her "NO", she immediately took action. We knew she was just coming in for her shift (had her purse and keys in hand) but she took our drink order and put an app in for us and came back within minutes to take our order! We need to see this kind of service in every restaurant!! We will be back and we will be asking for Lisa!! She was so kind and prompt with making sure we were taken care of!!!! read more

Of course great bartenders and a nice beer selection, but I had the cedar smoked salmon tonight and it was perfect. The sweetness of the rub married with the smokiness of the wood was it. Order it - you won't be disappointed read more

Seriously - don't come here for lunch or dinner, only come for Appetizers and Drinks. Went here very recently for a team lunch, but would never come back for a full meal again. Cons: The food is mediocre at best (they should travel to the Federal in Durham to see how amazing "bar food" can taste). While our waiter was really nice and friendly after we ordered it took 45 minutes for our food to come, and it wasn't terribly busy. It took so long, 75% of our group needed To Go Containers so they could eat back at the office. Pros: Appetizers - The only app I had were the pretzels, which were really fantastic. People I was with said the wings and quesadillas were quite good. Also, our waiter was friendly and very nice. My coworkers back at the office said this is a good place for drinks as well, so it looks as though this is a "Drinks and Appetizers" place, but not one where you should order a meal. There are SO MANY places within a ten minute drive, why would anyone come here for actual food? Even Whole Foods is right down the road, where you can get a better lunch without a doubt. read more

THE TAVERN HAS GONE TO S**T. My family and I live just a couple minutes away from the tavern so it's very convenient but the last couple times it has been just absolute trash. Today was the last straw. Undone PINK and still bleeding chicken wings (easy way to make somebody extremely sick). An up charge from fries to asparagus was ok until we got 6 small burnt flimsy pieces of asparagus. Then to top off all the food mess ups, BYRON I repeat BYRON is a terrible server. The hour we were there we seen him 3 times, once to get our drinks, once to pick up our uncooked food that the manager told him to come get, as he was getting the food I asked if he could refill our water cups, he literally grabbed mine filled it up, looked at my girlfriends empty water cup and walked off. Don't waste your time at the tavern. Sad to say cause that used to be our favorite spot until now. read more

Service at the bar continues to be poor. Ordered 2 items off the menu and they decided to only put 1 item into the kitchen. Bartenders need some common sense on how to serve customers and when to follow up with them. Service was so bad the last time they have me a gift card. This time nothing. Management is clueless to what is going on as well. read more

We have been going to this spot since it opened. The food and service has gone down hill tremendously. Food and service is mediocre at best. Last night we were having a conversation about the pros and cons of the last two presidents among ourselves and the wait staff apparently didn't like what we were saying. They proceeded to say we were no longer welcome there. It is apparent that the cancel culture is real there and they only appreciate business from those who think only the way they think. Do not go to this establishment. Waste of time and money when Cary has so much more to offer! read more
