Different from the BBQ I'm used to but very good. Service was excellent the cashier is patient and friendly . There are tables to sit down inside and out. Inside is small, so i would advise to sit outside or take Togo. The small area inside allows for quick eating during break, you will be done with your food in less the 30 mins. It is true! It is a Hut BBQ that is very small. And there was a waiting line at the order counter. Everyone seat yourself if you can find a place to sit or there is outside setting area to sit after you pick up your food and walk through the parking lot. I had the BBQ plate that came with Brunswick Stew and fries, The chopped pork was covered with a very thin sauce that smelled and tasted like vinegar. The Brunswick stew had corn floating in it so I guess it was Brunswick soup instead. Plus the fries were cold. However the water tasted good. I do not recommend this place. read more

So very disappointed. 5/18/24 at 12:48 ordered a ham sandwich. No fries no soda. Cashier was a lovely person. Got my sandwich to go. Got home went to eat it. Wow..5 pieces of lettuce a tomatoes slice 1/2 inch thick and ham so dry and flavorless i had to cut it with a knife along with a long strand of BLONDE Hair in the ham. Only person I saw with blonde hair was a girl in the back kitchen. No person had gloves on or hair net just all the woman with long hair and barely in a ponytail. I'd heard such good things about this place, so I swung by to try it for lunch today. Not what I was expecting. I'll start with the not-so-good and move to the good. This place is by no means upscale or super-clean. It's a concrete block building; the bathroom is a single-seater that you enter from outside, like an old gas station. The building itself is really old; it looks like a converted baseball concession stand (complete with concession window that's now closed off with a square of sheet metal). The menu consists of about five things: hot dog, hamburger/cheeseburger, bbq, ham sandwich, fries. All items are a la carte, and toppings (lettuce, chili, tomato, onions, etc.) all cost extra. It's a bit expensive; drinks are $2 or $3, sides are about $2 to $4, and sandwiches are anywhere from $3 to $7, depending on what all you get on them. They do accept credit cards, but they pass on a 4% service fee to the customer to use them. It's clearly a mom-and-pop operation; the walls are sparsely decorated with 1970s and 1980s pictures or either customers or family members. The people were quite friendly. The place was overflowing with locals, mostly either retired folks or workers from the surrounding area. When you enter, you place your order at the counter; they give you a ticket with a number on it and call your number when your order is up. The food was pretty good. Unfortunately, you don't get free refills on drinks or bbq sauces (all the ketchup you want, yes, but not bbq sauce; kind of a bummer for a bbq place). Many of the locals praised the desserts (peach cobbler, butter cake, etc.), but I didn't try any. Myself, I shan't be back. But if you like local flavor, friendly service, and good bbq, and don't mind a less-than-spic-and-span atmosphere in a less-than-upscale setting, you should enjoy the place. read more

Stopped in at an interesting lunch spot in Dallas GA on my way to a new Antiquing Destination... Dallas Markets. Figured this place was good because their parking lot was full with people waiting in line out the door in the cold. This is a lunch counter Dive that caters to working people. Nothing fancy here. They are a family run operation that has been in business for a very long time. You walk in... go up to a lady at a cash register who takes your order and collects the payment. Everyone seemed to know what they wanted but me. The Lady pointed me to a copy of a menu on top of a rack of Chips. There are maybe 8 booths in the whole place. After placing your order you wait for them to call your number. Moved quickly. I ordered a Chili Cheese Dog, a Chili Cheese burger, and a small Brunswick Stew. $6.52! A real bargain. The place is semi clean and does have the smell of cooking burgers mixed with sweaty customers. Not really a place to use the restroom. The BBQ pork, fries, and onion rings others had looked looked good. Just not in the mood. Took my sack and sat in my car and wolfed it all down. Nothing healthy here... but very tasty! In the Dallas area and stopped in for lunch. Had the pork sandwich, slaw and sweet tea. Some of the reviews claimed the meat was a bit dry. I have to agree with that. The sauce was good, not a stand out. Let's talk about the slaw. Finely chopped cabbage (the way I like it). Not too much mayonnaise and some other addition I could not identify. Maybe sour cream? It was excellent, some of the best I've had. I like to support local joints. Will come back and try the chili dog. Update: Came up with an excuse to drive to Dallas. I went here because everyone raved about it. It was a super sketchy shack near downtown Dallas. That didn't bother me so much as the rude lady at the service counter. They gave me frozen coleslaw ( literally frozen) and I was going to enjoy my meal outside but couldn't because of all the beggars hanging around. It comes with 2 sides and I always get the steak fries and the Brunswick Stew. The Brunswick Stew is the best you'll find in these parts, real, homemade, thick, delicious! (It's shocking what fancier, pricier places try to pass off as Brunswick Stew!) My mom is 80 and doesn't eat out much, but when she does she wants me to bring her here. Although the salad dressings are still just as good as always, the quality of the other items has done drastically down hill. The prices also continue to increase. If you like little family owned GA BBQ joints then you will love the Hickory Hut. This is a hidden gem, in a nondescript location, no frills, no fuss, just good southern BBQ. The pork plate is more than generous and they aren't skimpy with the sauce. One of my pet peeves is to have a big plate of BBQ with a tiny bit of sauce. They give you a bun, and choice of 2 sides all for $8 bucks, you just can't beat it. I did the steak fries and Brunswick stew and added coleslaw. It was all piping hot and delicious. The slaw takes me back to the days where grannies whipped up coleslaw with Blue Plate mayo and onions, simple crunchy goodness. A customer came in after us and ordered an off the menu favorite chili cheese burgers and they looked delicious. We also like that they have "the good ice" served with their tea. If I had one complaint it would be that there was no cornbread on the menu to go with my stew, but they more than made up for that with homemade chocolate cake and butter cake that totally hit the spot. Another one of my favorite hole-in-the-wall places... I'm so glad that a friend of mine turned me onto this place. This place has been around forever and for good reason. BBQ is very subjective in these parts. While it's not the best (IMHO), it's very close to it. And by that, I mean it's better than 95% of all the other BBQ places. But, everytime I drive by, I pull in and will get a BBQ Sandwich to go and eat it later because I don't want to miss an opportunity to get some of that good Hickory Hut food. read more
