A hidden Gem in a small country town. Cute and cozy atmosphere. Recently moved to the area, in search of good Texas BBQ we have tried several places in Dallas which lead us to the disappointments. We figure we give this local place a chance and we are glad that we did. My husband ordered BBQ Ribs and I ordered BBQ Beef Sandwich. Ribs was nice and tender and flavorful. Beef had nice flavor as well. Price is reasonable. Lunch special is around $5.75 with two sides. I think we'll be going back there to try their BBQ Chicken and Breakfast in the near future. read more

Overall a very pleasant experience! Prices are reasonable for the food that you get and when it comes to BBQ this place does the job. The restaurant is divided into two sections and has been around since forever (20+ years). One part is where you order and then the other segment (to the right of the main door) is where an old donut shop used to be and is now a larger seating area. The menu is simple and provides the traditional bbq dish options with a lunch special deal of a meat sandwich with two vegetable sides for 5.95. I ordered a 4oz Chicken Fried Steak with two veggies for 5.95 (another cheap option). The quantity was sufficient for me to feel full without feeling fat. I had baked beans and French fries (I'm so healthy, clearly) and they all tasted very nice. I can't give this place 5 stars because I wasn't wowed by any of the food but I would definitely come back and spend more dollars. This is the second time I've eaten here in the last three months and I will come back again. So why the three stars and not higher? Had the chopped beef sandwich and it was too fatty. I prefer my chopped beef chopped from the same brisket as the sliced. Cut off a couple of slices and chop it right in front of you. Add a little sauce and your good to go. Like so many other bbq places, they take the fatty scraps and pre chop with a lot of sauce. More like a sloppy joe than chopped beef. The potato salad was too smooth and overly vinegary for my taste. So why will I come back? I like the old school atmosphere, the owner who personally greets you and serves you and, oh yea, I really liked the green beens, they were fantastic. Next time I'll try a sliced brisket sandwich and the beans. I'm sure I'll get it right next time, then I can gladly give it more stars. read more

Ohh my goodnesss, this is the spot. Love the breakfast. The customers are all regulars in the morning. The owner cooks the food to order, he can almost do it from memory when you walk up. So nice to be in a place where everybody knows your name. The coffee is great, and staff are more than friendly. Perfect hometown place in a small town. Love it. read more

We're traveling from California and happened to stumble across this place. The reviews are what pulled us in and then we were sold after the owner greeted us and gave us samples. The food was amazing! Brisket melted in your mouth and the coleslaw was perfectly balanced. I could rave about the food more but I'm going to talk about the customer service since I think that's more important. As I mentioned, we're traveling but we felt right at home. The owner brought us out more samples while we were eating. He chatted with regulars and included us. A man walked in that looked like he was having a hard day and I overheard the owner tell him his meal was on the house. Not many business operate like this anymore and it's such a bummer. I have lived in Lancaster over twenty years and have never had a bad meal at hickory House .The prices are fair and the service is outstanding . I walk with a cane and they always insist on carrying my tray to where I am sitting. Friendly people ,good food, fair prices, what more could you ask for. We were headed to the Cold War Air Museum and needed a place for lunch so we tried this place. We really enjoyed it. We both had the lunch special - a sandwich with two vegetable sides for $5.95, with sausage for the sandwiches, baked beans, french fries, and potato salad for the sides. Very friendly atmosphere, the owner is exceptionaly nice and funny. Immediately you feel welcomed.
