This review is long overdue but my wife and I are so thrilled to share our great experience with John and his store. After years of sleeping on memory foam, crappy spring mattresses, and bed-in-a-box types that are touted as high-quality and high-value, we were dying to know what a quality night's sleep really felt like. We visited a few different highly-reviewed yelp stores and just liked John and his mattresses the best, so we bought our latex mattress set from him. Now almost after half a year, we have really tested out the mattress and can testify to why his store is great: 1) The mattresses are made locally by actual craftsmen - this shows through in the quality of mattress in spades. 2) John actually has a passion for mattresses, knows all the details about his mattresses, and has made them himself. They are a local business with history and heritage and I'm no luddite but it just feels good to walk through the store and ask John about the different mattresses - as opposed to watching some slick Youtube ad and buy a mattress-in-a-box where it starts sinking in the middle after a few months, it's too heavy to throw out, and the whole time you're just wondering how much of the price was to finance the cheesy ads. 3) The customer service is first class. After years of sleeping on crappy mattresses, my spine needed some time adjusting to a good mattress. This caused some initial discomfort, which I thought was because the mattress had a quality issue. After telling John, he personally drove over to my house to test the mattress and explain to me the adjustment period and offered to take another look after I try it out for a month. Needless to say, I soon got used to the mattress and my sleep quality has been probably the highest in my life since. 4) It has stood the test of time - like I mentioned earlier, we have been sleeping on the mattress for about half a year now, and it has only gotten better with time. So if you're like me and my wife -- looking for a great night's sleep without breaking the bank -- get your butt down to Hibernation and try out their mattresses. Oh and we definitely recommend latex, organic cotton, and the adjustable base. Usually when I hear "investment" mentioned with high-priced purchases, my eyes instinctually roll to the back of my head. Buyer beware, spend the extra money and time with a well-known mattress supplier. I purchased a mattress on July 2, John, the sales man sold me a mattress that felt good and sturdy on the sales floor. That size mattress was not in stock. To place the order John insisted that I pay for it before he ordered it. I placed my purchase on June 2 and John told me he would call me a soon as the mattress would be there, two weeks tops, John said. It had been almost a month and I had not received a phone call, after numerous attempts I finally stopped by to pick up the mattress and it was not there yet. A week later I finally called again and he just said to come and pick it up. Within a month after picking up this mattress I purchased was already caving in at certain places of the mattress. I tried to get a hold of John and he said to stop by and look at a better mattress. I called, then stoped by again, a different salesman helped me after I explained the situation. when I arrived he claimed he would trade it for a different mattress, a mattress he had in the back. It was a used mattress that was dirty, not to mention the quality of this mattress was even worse than the one I had purchased. I asked for a refund, only store credit he replied, "talk to John when he gets back". I just ve up there, I did not want to waste anymore time. Don't waste your time or money with this place. We bought our mattress here maybe 3-4 years ago and have hated it since the moment it was delivered!! I finally found a business card to remind me of where we bought it. I'm sure the owner will remember our situation. Your son the sales person was great, but your other son, the delivery kids, abandoned our mattress at the front gate, so we had to get this up 2 flights of stairs ourselves. The crummy situation was it didn't fit through the stair way so it had to be hoisted up with rope. Owner himself was of no help, attempting to sell us for 2 twin beds instead... who are we, Lucy and Ricky Ricardo sleeping on separate beds?? We still have the stupid mattress because it costed us $1500!! But I HATE it!! I have started going to the chiropractor because the bed is so damn hard. NOTHING like the mattress we tested in store and we have not been able to "break the bed in" It's ironic considering the manufacturers name for this bed is "spinal care bedding" yet it's destroying my back! I hate this bed, I hated the delivery experience, I hated their inability to provide proper customer service and I hate that I'm still sleeping on it years later. read more

Let me just start off by saying WOW! I know it comes across as cliche, but let me tell yo my story. I purchased a mattress at the beginning of the year, a couple months ago or so. I had been dealing with low back pain due to sciatica so it was definitely time to upgrade the mattress. After my mattress was delivered, it was an upgrade to what I had before so I was marginally satisfied. But, something just didn't feel right. As I tested all areas of the mattress I noticed that the side that I sleep in dipped further the rest of the bed and it was way too soft. Not how I remembered the bed when I purchased it. I called back to the store and the gentleman the sold me the mattress, John. I wanted to get the bed replace under the warranty because I was confident and didn't feel right. John, never gave me an air of arrogance but was very helpful and went out of his way to be responsive, call me back in the time he promised and went over the warranty process with me. It was $60 to get the mattress delivered back to the warehouse. I sent back the bed, a Cal King Waldorff with a European pillow top, and just as I thought, the coils didn't set right and they were too soft, not the feel and support the bed is supposed to have. The made the determination and gave me a call to let me know that they were going to have the factory replace my bed free of charge. I would have been satisfied at that, but, John and the owner of the store went out of their way to personally deliver and set up my new bed free of charge. They also double check my frame and box spring to make sure they were in appropriate condition to support the bed. I truly appreciated the personal touch. It really showed that these folks care about your overall experience and the quality of the product, not just the sale. Was greeted by a guy named John and he immediately asked us what kind we were looking for and our budget and started showing us some beds. When me and my wife finally decided on a bed (which was after their closing time, John was happy to stay until we decided) he gave us an awesome deal and thru in a free bed frame worth 700 new (it was a discontinued floor model) and a free mattress protector worth 150 bucks and gave us a good discount on the mattress itself. So we stopped in and could not believe how much less expensive they were than the other prices we were quoted. I had been searching for the perfect mattress for sometime, after I made the fatal mistake of buying a "bed in a box" . It was returned as soon as the minimum trial date arrived. Never again , especially since I found John, the owner of The Mattress Place on Katella in Orange. He is one of the few stores that carries beds with the latex I needed to relieve my painful pressure points, as well as lower back pain. John gave me several options for my issues, and there was no pressure or upselling like the chain stores with a quota. He is also one of the few stores that carry several models by Chatam and Wells .
