They ruined my transmission a few years back and blamed it on me. Took over 3+ weeks to get my car back. I eventually had to go to a junk yard and buy my own transmission for 1/15th of the price of their rebuild quote for them to install. They cut my exhaust pipes where the flange from the Catalytic converter meets the H-Pipe. Not sure why they didn't just unbolt it? In fact, didn't even bolt them back together with new bolts when they cut them off. Instead, they put on exhaust sealer/glue. When I got my car back, I told them that I had a big exhaust leak and their response was, "the car was like that when you gave it to us". My driver side exhaust has been leaking for years due to them cutting the flanges.. I had to grind down the flange just to level it out and it's still not perfect. Every week that I called them, they said never even started it. "it will be done next week, call us next week" - "oh yeah he just looked at it, call us tomorrow" - "give us one more day". How hard is it to swap transmissions? They replaced the oil pan on my transmission and charged me for it without my consent because "It had a dimple in it". I even had to take the car back to get the shifting lever re-adjusted because the car had trouble going into reverse. I never even got my old transmission back either. They wanted to charge me a "core" charge for my own transmission when they were supposed to swap it out with another one I had in the trunk. My car drove perfectly fine without 4th gear and overdrive turned off. Once they did whatever they did, I got my car back and it was slipping gears, only to lose all forward gears on the highway. They charged me to install the replacement transmission I bought at the junk yard. I haven't had a problem with that transmission after all these years. This happened years ago but I remember everything. I love how my review isn't recommended. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place. read more

Hi-Tech proved to be a knowledgeable shop willing to take on a tough job with enthusiasm. My experience was with my second car, one that I drive during the summer. I was having a problem with lockout in all gears on very rare front-wheel drive 5-speed manual transmission. This was a transmission that nobody knew anything about. I called about 7 shops and Bill at Hi-Tech was enthusiastic and looked forward to taking on the job. After a preliminary check, he recommended it be completely rebuilt. After about two weeks, I had it back. Bill gave me the option of having my own family mechanic install it. Unfortunately, once I had it installed in the car, my mechanic and I discovered there was a problem inside the differential case. After calling Bill, he visited my mechanic in-person to check the car. He had it towed to his shop in East Longmeadow and fixed what turned out to be a fluke - all under warranty. Tim coordinated the repair and I was very happy they stood behind their work. While the work was very good, my only complaint was that the shop doesn't keep customers informed of their progress. They never updated me when the warranty work would take place, and my car sat at my family garage outside in the rain for about 3 weeks. So it is important to keep tabs on their progress. Once I got on the phone, they pushed my appointment up and were able to get my car back to me just in time. My overall experience at Hi-Tech was very good, I'd say they are one of the best in the Greater Hartford-Springfield area. It's reassurring to know of such a reputable garage. Steer clear of this place. Brought car in here and was told it needed a total rebuild for over $2500. Towed it to another shop and was fixed for under $600. That was over three years ago, and about 32,000 miles and still going smooth. read more

I brought my 1986 toyota motorhome to hi tech with an odd problem. It shifted perfectly except that the OD lockout switch didn't keep it out of OD. I took it to hi tech on a recommendation from a mechanic friend even though they were a bit of a drive away. I was resigned to a very expensive repair, but after having it for just a few hours I got a phone call to come pick it up. They removed the transmission valve body and discovered that the last person in there (AAMCO in california) put it together with a part in the wrong place. They moved the part back to where it belonged and it works perfectly. The repair bill was a little over 200 dollars. I've been surprised by repair bills before, but, never in a positive way. Hi-tech is the best and will get any future transmission work I require. read more

They rebuilt a transmission in my pathfinder twice! When I started to have trouble with it the third time, I sadly hade to trade it in.

I have known Bill and his dad for eternity. always honest and professional. They have done tranny work on many of my vehicles over the years. I once brought a Buick to Bill to fix the tranny and he asked me to wait for a moment. He daid I could rebuild or try disconnecting a wire. I drove that car with the wire off for the life of the car without ever spending a dime on the tranny. How's that for an honest transmission guy?
