Death of my son at this facility. The staff and nurses are uncaring rude and lazy.The patients are not their priority.Call lights ringing and blinking continually. One nurse came into my son room and said we don't want these lights on and shut off call light never asked the problem. Patients yelling and moaning non stop day and night. My son said he never got any sleep in this torture chamber. He was left alone all day in a dark room, with curtains pulled. They avoided any communication with me and disappeared when I arrived every other day. They rejected my power of attorney and said he's ours now. He was a quadriplegic not able to speak above a whisper and on a ventilator. They lowered pressure on the ventilator in 4 days and took him off. Then put him on blow by oxygen which was not enough. His oxygen started to drop and they did't put him back on. They were pressuring him to sign a DNR because they said they didn't want to lose their licenses. The tube connecting to oxygen was always falling off which meant he couldn't breathe unless they came in and reconnected it. They found him unresponsive per 3 times, had to bag him once. Revived him once and nurse said he was fine.He was sent to hospital by ambulance on one occasion and returned to facility. He was left in room after return from hospital for over one hour and a half, while I looked for someone to come in. No monitors turned on he was all twisted up in blankets. Doctor said he was to go back on ventilator, but was not put back on. After a while a nurse came in and started yelling about a pressure sore that was bleeding. She wanted him to lay flat in bed, which he could'nt because of heart failure. She said you and your Mother have been warned about bleeding. Which was being caused by Eliquis a blood thinner they were giving him.She told my son don't talk over me I am your nurse and you will listen to me. He was dehydrated the whole time there as they would give very little water, dry mouth cracked lips. They told me he had oral care in the morning and that's all he needed. I said how about ice chips and they said no. I found out that they were giving him a medication called Trazadone. He had this once before and previous Dr. took him off it, from bad side effects, shortness of breath, hallucinations sucidial thoughts. I asked them to remove it and found out they were still giving it so I ask again. From his last blood test I found he was anemic. He was given many different medications he did not need, with serious side effects. I feel his death was caused by negligence. Think twice if you're considering putting a family member there. read more

My mom was in this facility for almost 4 months after a bad fall and they took such a great care of her. The staff is absolutely wonderful, shout-out to Leila the social worker there, she was a massive help in figuring out the next steps for my mom. Everyone went above and beyond to make her feel at home during a difficult time. So grateful for their support and patience. read more

My son was recently placed here in Hospice with terminal cancer. He received excellent care during the last days of his life. The staff not only attended to his needs and his comfort on a regular and frequent basis, they also were attentive to the needs of our family- bringing juice and coffee and even making up a bed for us to rest as we took turns by his side. just now My dad went to high desert in October 2020 & out of all the staff in the facility there was only one nurse which her name is Stephanie that always went above and beyond for my father my dad was getting better he was moved to the other side soon to be coming home and it seems like not even two months into being on the other side everything change for the worse wasn't getting proper care wasn't getting The feedings like he was supposed to lost so much weight within a couple weeks it was always so hard to get through to get a phone call or a FaceTime they were always so busy and my dad was weak so he couldn't hold the phone. and the thing that bothers me as my dad had a wound on his head and they have no documentation of it or how it happened I asked them & never got back to me. then two days later my dad's passing they still couldn't tell me why he had that wand on his head or nobody documented it. Also when they allowed us our time with my father there was another patient in the room which I think is very unprofessional when we should have that time with our loved one. Some of my dad's belongings cannot be found and their response to that was the refund for the property that was lost which I don't understand how things could go missing in there everybody seems like they're either out of it or drugged up with Sarah Quill I'm very upset I have so many unanswered questions about this facility I put my dad there thinking that they were going to do everything they could for him and I feel like everything just went for the worst. Please if anyone is thinking about putting their love ones in this facility make sure you think twice. That place is not what it looks like it is total opposite!!! read more

I agree 100% with the previous review! This place is NOT a rehab center in any stretch of the imagination. My S/O was admitted after a bout of pancreatitis {Sept 2018} and to further his rehab after a stroke {he had already had a lot of home based rehab & was walking, etc. but needed more PT for his left hand and walking. First of all he was NOT ALLOWED OUT OF BED without someone there to assist him---surprise, they are short staffed so no getting out of bed! Finally got a wheelchair but NEVER had any assistance. I talked to the therapists, they had NO TOOLS FOR HAND REHAB, not even a ball to squeeze, I brought my tools from home, one was returned broken with no explanation or offer to replace. The therapist for his walking does not even recognize "left sided neglect" so couldn't help, he also ignored that S/O started dragging his left foot while walking----he was long over that when he was admitted. He went completely backwards in all aspects of the stroke deficits. The nutritionist told me he could have a late night piece of fruit or snack {really, who the hell eats dinner at 5 o'clock and nothing else til bed?} when he tried to get a piece of fruit he was told the kitchen gets closed & locked at 6 so no snacks. I asked her about the Congestive Heart Diet & the diabetic diet he was supposed to be on & she said they DO NOT HAVE ANY SPECIAL DIETS!!! So the amount of salt in the reg diets can just kill him, right? No control of his diabetes either. 2 TIMES THEY FORGOT TO FEED HIM & 2 TIMES THEY FORGOT HIS MEDICATIONS!! HE IS ON BLOOD THINNERS TO KEEP HIS STENTS FROM CLOGGING UP. INMATES are bathed 2 times a week---GUESS WHAT? 2 WEEKS FORGOT TO BATHE HIM OR DIDN'T HAVE STAFF OR TIME! He said he couldn't sleep either since some of the INMATES cry or scream all night. I never got a minutes rest while he was in this hell hole since I was constantly driving up there to bathe him, bring him food demand his meds...I finally took him out. No one should have to be treated like a potted plant or a useless human piece of trash and I think medicare should stop all payments until they are compliant with proper patient care and staff levels. If you love someone please keep them out of this place. read more

I was a patient here from February 2019 to June 2019. There are two units here, sub-acute and the other side which I was on, and honestly, I have forgotten what they called that station. I have been in a couple of skilled nursing facilities since my disability began in January 2019. One of the hardest things to deal with when going into a place like this, is fear of the unknown. You may ask yourself, such reviews are true? Which are false? Is this place going to be horrible or will it save my life? I have found from personal experience that all places are not equal, which is why I felt compelled to write a review. The facility itself is actually quite beautiful and spacious. The semi private rooms are not cramped but offer each individual resident their own actual living space. There are phones in the rooms for EACH patient, as well as personal closets and night stands. Each room has a private half bath with plenty of room for a wheelchair to get through the door and plenty of room inside to maneuver. The physical and occupational therapy, plus the RNA program are the absolute best. They are invested in your care and treatment plan and will go above and beyond to give a patient what they need. I had to learn how to re-speak clearly, walk, and to be taught new ways of doing my daily living activities, as I was no longer able to perform all of those on my own or without being taught how to adjust my life in accordance. The kitchen is amazing and you get to pick out your menu. The staff go above and beyond and will give you specialty items ordered for residents, such as an entire box of my favorite teas. The laundry and house keeping employees are amazing. The rooms and common areas are spotless every single day. When you first arrive, staff takes all your clothes and the laundry employees print out a label for each and every clothing item and place it for the resident before washing or and returning it - the same day. In fact, laundry was nearly always returned the same day. Most of the staff are amazing but they are always short staffed due to a remote rural area and the talent pool is very slim. There are staff members who really shouldn't be working there, but that's with everyplace. I had some personal issues that affected my time there but I would still recommend it to people looking for skilled nursing or long term care. read more

Awful place...my family member had a severe stroke n has diabetes along with other issues. She went several days without medicine, they neglected to feed her at times, they neglected to take blood sugars, the meal they did give her contained undercooked pork n she got food poisoning which after several hours of pain they called n had to taken to er. That night she was back n still had the runs n stomach pain. She fell in the bathroom and laid in her waste for over 3 hours before someone came to help but they only tossed her a washcloth n told her to clean herself up!! Her right side doesnt function due to her stroke!! This place is horrible!!!yes we are removing her from this place read more

I can't say enough good things about the treatment that my nephew received at the Hi-Desert Continuing Care Center during his stay. He was on Hospice and heavily sedated for pain. The staff at the center not only took care of my nephew, but also continually asked us if we needed anything. He was kept clean and comfortable, constantly monitored for additional medication. When a hospice nurse was required they didn't hesitate for a minute getting them involved. During the week that he was at the facility he was treated with great respect and compassion. When he passed away last night they took control and let us know everything that would be going on, including when he would be picked up and taken to the mortuary. I would not hesitate to have another loved one cared for at this facility! read more

This facility looks beautiful inside and out with very nice visiting areas. With very few exceptions I have found the staff to be very unhelpful, unprofessional and rude. My elderly father is there for rehab after hip surgery and within two weeks they have lost his teeth and told us it will be 2 to 3 months to replace, put him on high blood pressure meds (he doesn't have high blood pressure) that dropped his pressure to 70 over 38. He has lost 17 pounds in their care and has received little to no actual physical therapy which is what he is there for. He is diabetic and they keep trying to give him sugary foods which can kill him. Every person we have asked for help in getting him a little walking refuses to help and goes to get the physical therapist, but he has to ask them for help even to get the few steps to the bathroom. When he pushes the button for the nurse sometimes no one comes or they come so long after that he already would have soiled/urinated on himself. The plastic urinal they gave him to use in the bed was on the floor and he is not supposed to get out of the bed without help so how is he supposed to use it? I witnessed for myself a nurse/physical therapist very roughly try to move him by pulling his leg on the side he had the hip surgery when he asked for help sitting up 4 days after his surgery with no compassion whatsoever, claiming she had been "doing this over 20 years" when it was clearly not how you should move someone after this surgery. After she left I slowly and successfully helped him to the sitting position with no training whatsoever. I am not the kind of person that complains but every person I have dealt with concerning his care here has basically blamed him, lied to us and we have had to fight tooth and nail to get any of his problems solved. read more

Our 94 yr old mother was sent from a Covid19 unit at PS Regional hospital to Hi Desert continuing care over 3 weeks ago. She contracted the virus in a nursing home in PS where caregivers neglected to tell us they were ill... We were given no choice and told it was mandated by the county to send to Hi Desert....but that is a whole other story....we had issues from the beginning at Hi Desert, depending on who you spoke to, we received conflicting reports on my mom every day. One nurse would tell us she was in horrible shape and another would tell us she was doing great and finally turned the corner. We finally got her out of there today and the reports they sent with her were sloppy and hard to read.....they told us she had pneumonia but the chart never mentions it. We would leave message after message asking dr to call us back to report on tests they supposedly were doing on her but seldom if ever did anyone call back....would I recommend you sending your family member here, that would be a big NO.....thank God she is in a new facility that has already done a thorough check on her needs and will hopefully be able to work to tend to her many issues. read more
