We ordered Mother's Day treats for pickup and apparently half the city had the same idea because they were already sold out of a lot of goodies by the time we ordered. That usually tells you everything you need to know. We ended up trying the strawberry shortcake jar and the turtle cheesecake. Both were rich, fresh, and very sweet in the best dessert-shop way. The strawberry shortcake jar was light and nostalgic, while the turtle cheesecake was decadent and loaded with caramel and chocolate. What I loved about this place it is set up for deserts on the go. They do have a small table outside if you want to eat it there. They have peach cobbler to go in a jar, in the cheese cakes they had Blueberry, Carmel Apple, Strawberry Shortcake, Cookie Butter, Cookies & Cream, and Turtle. This place has THE BEST red velvet cake I have ever tried! Red velvet is always my taste test with cakes. Many times it can be dry or not flavorful. Hey Sugar's red velvet cake is soft, moist, just the right amount of sweet! It's so tasty you don't even need the cream cheese icing. Other flavors I've tried were confetti and carrot. This dessert shop is located at the bottom of my apartment building and I have been wanting to visit for some time now. I decided to come during their grand opening this past Saturday as they advertised they were giving free cookies to the first 50 customers. I got there right when they opened at noon and, much to my disappointment, they had barely any inventory. I was shopping for my husband's birthday dessert and they didn't have half of what they advertised they'd have for that week on social media. They had two flavors of cheesecake bites, large cinnamon rolls, cookies, a few phat cakes, and some cake jars. They also advertise mini donuts, but didn't have that machine going either. I could not believe the lack of inventory for what was supposed to be their grand opening. I was looking for a cheesecake and all they had were these tiny cheesecake bites that were overpriced in my opinion. The peanut butter cheesecake bite was delicious, but I was looking for at least a personal sized cheesecake. I ended up getting a peanut butter chocolate phat cake for him, which was really a large cupcake that was just ok. I didn't love it, although the icing to cake ratio was good. Lastly, I got a dog treat cookie in their Bailey's Pantry section and my puppy loved it! The shop itself is super cute and the staff were friendly. I did get a free small m&m cookie, although I was expecting one of their large cookies. The large cookies looked amazing so I'll definitely come back to try one and hopefully they'll have more cheesecakes, donuts or other options. read more

This locally owned dessert shop is situated in a small ground floor suite of the 101 Park Plaza building in East Village across from Petco Park. Their signage is not very visible which made the business difficult to find. It's owned and operated by an African American woman and her son. Others have already mentioned the challenging parking situation in the area. I found an open metered spot several blocks away and walked over. Because the timing of my visit was after a baseball game had concluded, their inventory was not as well-stocked as earlier in the day. Cupcakes, cookies, peach cobbler, Rice Krispy Treats, and cake jars were on display. I didn't see any strawberry shortcake, cheesecakes, or brownies because maybe those had sold out? The cupcakes were $3 each so I purchased four different varieties... lemon, cinnamon, vanilla, and strawberry. I also bought a peach cobbler which cost $8. Each cupcake was placed in its own plastic container which I thought was neat although some would say it's wasteful and not conservation-minded. They were on the smallish side for the price, however the markup wasn't as high as I have seen at other bakeries. The cake itself was moist while the frosting was light and spiraled beautifully on top. As for the cobbler, the amount of peaches was reasonable while the pastry crust was decent. read more

On the corner of downtown Celina is this delightful sweet shoppe; we walked in and were wafted in the scent of yummy!! I almost felt like I was in an Archie comic at the Chocklit Shoppe!! They have everything you could want that is sugar, and spice and everything nice!! We walked after dinner across the road and we are all happy we did; especially the kiddos. We got our picks, kids picked spurs and gummy worma, some boxed candies and then we sauntered over to the ice cream bar. Just wanted to update the review the shop location has done so many sweet creations and the baked goods they have there are what you would find southern style. The shop location is one of the best that is very close to the ballpark where you can go in and have coffee or hot chocolate and still have time to get to the ball game. What is one of the best things that comes to mind is the chocolate and the delicious Bundt cake and the heavenly cheesecakes that just make you forget all your stresses that you have in one day and beyond. The many bakeries that you find around San Diego have the comforts of home. When you go to the Hey Sugar and sweets store you see the many recipes that make southern deserts that are the best in flavors and the many colors that just wants to have the deserts before dinner. The atmosphere and the welcome at the store is just like going to a home town local as the many people that are in line waiting for their orders and get home to make breakfast. My better half and I sought this place out on a visit down to San Diego. It's an adorable spot with numerous delicious treats on display. The owner was in when we visited late and she enthusiastically described each of her creations on which we settled on a peanut butter and chocolate cookie and a miniature apple pie cheesecake. The cookie was not too hard not too soft and you could definitely taste both elements without the overwhelming taste of peanut butter that can haunt some peanut butter cookies. The cheesecake was perfect with a good crust and each element well represented. Get one with a pecan on top if you can. Although I wish it had been bigger, I picked it because the portion was perfect to avoid a good deal of guilt involved. If I lived in the area, I would happily come by again. read more

Found this place at the Street Food Market at Lane Field Park. Decided to give it a try since the other dessert spots were rather pricey. This one was too with a cake cup coming in at $8, probably because of the Ball Mason Jar. While I was told this cake wasn't too sweet, it was definitely on the sweeter side as far as chocolate cakes go. I appreciate that it was made from scratch, but it was a pretty basic recipe and definitely leaned more sweet than rich if you know what I mean. read more
