Hey Sailor in Searsport, Maine, delivers something surprisingly rare along this stretch of coast: bold, confident flavor that actually lands. I'm from New Orleans, where food doesn't whisper--it speaks up. After spending a full month traveling the Maine coast from Bar Harbor to Yarmouth, I found plenty of fresh seafood and scenic charm, but very few dishes that truly woke up my palate. Then I walked into Hey Sailor. This place doesn't hold back. The flavors are layered, intentional, and memorable--each bite feels thoughtfully built rather than simply assembled. There's a balance here between creativity and comfort, with dishes that feel both elevated and satisfying. It's the kind of food that makes you pause mid-conversation because your attention suddenly shifts to what's happening on the plate. In a region where subtlety often takes the lead, Hey Sailor confidently turns up the volume without losing finesse. It's not just good for Maine--it's good, period. If you're someone who craves food with depth, personality, and a little punch, this is a stop worth making. For me, it stood out as one of only two places on this entire coastal stretch that truly delivered that kind of experience. read more

Awesome bar and restaurant. It was the only place open at the time, but it was a great experience. The decor was interesting and the waitress was super friendly. The food selection was unique and we didn't expect it, but it was tasty! read more

Great bar and restaurant in Searsport. It's a gay-owned space with a big room and stage for shows. Prices were fine and there was gluten free food for those with Celiac. Options were great but there is not a dedicated fryer for anything fried. Cant wait to go back and see a band or drag show. Friendliest staff ever...and really wonderful and inventive cocktails. read more

Never written an online review in my life. traveling. "hey sailor" had a funky name and advertised good tacos. give it a shot, right? $8 per taco-which seemed like a lot- but expecting a big crunch very tasty taco. Nope. tiny. think smallest grocery store street taco wraps. they doubled them up presumably to add weight to it and to keep it from falling apart but they did anyway. which was a minor miracle because there was barely anything in it. said it would be ready in an hour. took hour and 15 min. worst of all, they left out the sauces which presumably would give these tiny things some personality. got house made taco chips to go with it, they tasted like they had been sitting around a lot longer than an hour. terrible salsa. like diced tomatoes and water. overall, fifty bucks (sixty after tip) for 4 little soft tacos and some nasty chips. I get it. it's a tough business and hard to get good help. I had my own small restaurant for 40 years. but I was always there making sure everything was as good as possible. and it was. get it together guys. put some effort into it and don't disappoint people like us traveling who don't want fried seafood or pizza, for Christ's sake. read more

If you've ever gotten a Big Mac and thought, this CAN'T be all this is supposed to be...run, do not walk, to Hey Sailor for their Sailor Burger, a double smash cheeseburger which is immediately recognizable as that classic - but in a refined, thoughtful, glorious form. That's all we had, but clearly they care about their food, and the menu looks awesome. Add a great vibe and friendly service and this is a killer find in a tiny town. So glad we stopped. Cozy bar too. read more

One of the best dining experiences in recent memory, we ordered kind of family style getting a couple of pizzas, fries and splitting dishes. Everything we ordered was amazing, drinks were great. The setup made me feel like they could really be a rocking place and the food was secondary. Service was top shelf, very attentive, polite, helpful, hope to come and visit again soon. read more

Don't miss this before they sell and are gone for good! Best fries and smash burgers. Homemade mole on enchiladas is so good. Small menu but its all worth tasting. Unique cocktails and mocktails, too. read more

We love eating here! Service and food are impeccable. Can't go wrong with any of the food or drinks. The decor & vibe are pretty laid-back, but don't let that fool you: it's a super solid dining and drinking experience. My personal fave are the enchiladas with stellar mole. read more

Revisited a sailor at the night prior to our elopement in Searsport. It's definitely a cool little spot with trendy and eclectic decor. They were showing movies in one room and had bar and booth seating in another section. How fun! This place should have five stars. The cocktails were outrageously good. The food was excellent prices were reasonable and portions were great. We struck up lovely conversations with the workers there, including the head chef who was manning the bar and our server was lovely. We definitely plan to return . read more

This place had high stars, it must for their tacos and dining in because it's not for their pizza or ordering Togo. I'm traveling through the coast of Maine so was looking for a place to get food on the way to my hotel and this place popped up. They close at 10 and their kitchen closes at 9. Around 8, I try putting an order thru on their website, which it told me to and said orders need to be placed by 9, so I still had an hour. It wouldn't let me order even though I still had 45 minutes before the kitchen closed..ok, let me call. No answer it just said check our website. I tried multiple times and nothing. I'm basically desperate as this is the only place still open. I get there at 8:50 now and run in to place my order before the kitchen closes and tell them the situation that I tried putting in the order online and calling and it wouldn't take it I already know what I want, don't even need to look at a menu. Great! he puts it in. I realized why they don't take calls as a show was going on across the bar and it was so loud obviously that's why they couldn't take calls. My pizza was going to take about 15 minutes so I walked around the venue and this lady was like if you're going to watch the show you need to buy a ticket - that's when I told her I was waiting on a pizza. I went back to the bar corner after that so I couldn't "see" the stage. It's a tiny venue and the peoplein the dining area next to the stage and the peopleat the bar facing the stage were watchingthe show so i figued it was just part of the restaurant. They also closed the door to the bar so the only way to get in was through where the stage was. The bartender was really nice though and offered me a water while I waited. Finally the pizza was ready. I brought it back to my hotel 15 minutes away - not too far - and It was awful. Looks nice, but the bread was so hard, it was like the dough was overworked, the sauce wasn't normal pizza/tomato sauce it was more like chef boyardee. Maybe that's what they give late people, but I tried putting it in an hour beforehand so I don't know. Like I said, the reviews on here must be for the tacos/burritos but I figured pizza was the easiest to get to-go. read more

Just had a quick Saturday brunch and had an incredible breakfast burrito bursting at the seams. I ordered a special marinated chicken addition, succulent! Everyone was so friendly and accommodating. Chic, cool bar. Happy I braved the Searsport construction and finally ate here. If you can't park on street, there're a few spots in back or at the waterfront park (quick walk to Main St). read more

Hey Sailor! has some incredible vibes. The restaurant is split into two sections. One side has frequent live music in the evening (and other events too!) with a number of tables and a few booths. The other side is closer to the bar with booth seating. Both sides can get a bit loud depending on the music performance, so if you're looking for quiet conversation, you may want to come earlier in the evening. The cocktails at Hey Sailor! are nothing short of incredible. They're masterfully crafted and completely unique. They also have two excellent non-alcoholic cocktails and several local beers available. The food here is a real winner. The tacos are the bomb. While they can be a bit messy, they're packed with flavor. They have a number of protein options, including a vegan option (if you ask for no dairy on the taco). I'm very thankful that they offer vegan options. They also have recently added a pizza oven. The pizza they put out is truly delicious. You can't go wrong with the classics, but if they have a seasonal option, I highly recommend trying it! The summer seasonal pizza I tried had summer squash, fresh corn, and a delicious cheese blend with plenty of fresh basil for flavor. The servers during our visit were incredibly friendly and attentive, though the kitchen can be easily overwhelmed (it's a popular spot). You may end up waiting a bit for your food, but for our group we didn't mind one bit. We sat and enjoyed our cocktails and soaked in the good vibes and the music. read more

Good food, good service. I liked the atmosphere. It was warm so I'd recommend turning the AC on but otherwise a good meal.

Just got into town so I stopped by this little place for a cocktail. Awesome little place. Karaoke was going on this evening. I sat in the bar and have one of their special cocktails. It was really tasty. Bartenders super friendly. Place is rusticand kind of dark. The bar has everything that you could want. The menu looked pretty good as well. I'm going to come back and try some food for sure. read more

What an amazing venue for our community! Excellent food, a varied mix of live music, entertainment and community events like open mic and writer's readings once a month. I was new to the area and blown away by this unassuming establishment. They serve the most delicious pozole and tacos as well as wood fired pizza and a rotating menu of special dinners. The drinks are spot on as well! The staff is friendly and handle the pressure of busy weekends with grace! I come here every opportunity I get! read more

Been to this great spot multiple times. Pleased to say every time was a fantastic experience. The gastropub style ambiance is creative and fun. I have dined at both the bar and tables and every service experience has been exemplary. As for the food, you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. A few highlights have been the pizza, tacos, burgers, wings and fries. 10/10 would recommend again and again! read more

Loved the food and ambience! The Fungi pizza was super tasty, along with the sailor fries. The vinegar on the fries was what sold us on getting a basket and we didn't regret it. The place filled up quick as there was live music that night, and we were happy to hear the musicians get compensated very well for their gigs. We were visiting from out of town and I'm glad we stopped by! Service was great too, I absolutely loved my Wicked Good Sour! read more

Super fun spot in Searsport- interior design is kind of a funky clean 80s vibe. Great bar, a few high tables by the window, and a 1/2 dozen or so booths...get there early or late or expect a wait. They do some specialty mocktails that were delicious, as was the lemonade. Food is a bit tapas style. tacos can be ordered in whatever quantity you want, and were excellent. I also enjoyed the empanadas. Food made fresh with fresh ingredients resulted in an especially tasty meal. Sauces also very good. It's not a 4 star fine dining experience, but it's both unusual and good. Give it a try. read more

They will charge you $20 per person to walk through the door, and not tell you till the end. Drinks are in small 4 fl oz glasses and are WAY over priced, along with the food. Nothing tastes authentic or homemade there. It's over priced gag a maggot food. The place is not very inviting. Not a comfortable feel to the place. This place is special. We were in last night and had amazing fries, chicken tinga enchiladas molé and a burrito, and then a baby key lime pie with torched meringue cream. We live on an island so there is always concern that a place isn't as great as it seems to us at the time since we are always thrilled to be back in civilization, BUT we just ate our leftovers and they were just as delicious the second time around so it wasn't a fluke. Next time I promise to try a drink off of their solid tropical drink list. And très leches cake. read more

This is my second time trying food here. First time was takeout and I got tacos and fries- delish. This time my husband and I sat at the bar. I got a margarita which was so yummy and he got a Thai iced tea cocktail which he loved. I got the calamari and he got the queso fundido. He usually doesn't even like queso but he LOVED this one! And the calamari was perfectly cooked. Service was great- bartender was attentive and didn't give you attitude when you asked questions. (Lately I've been noticing many bartenders with bad attitude.) I can't wait to go back and try more menu items! read more

Friends down from Madison.. they lived in San Francisco for years... they were loving the vibe... the beer selections and the menu. We had ceviche tostado for table and it was just the right size for four to share. northern Atlantic shrimp, perfect citrus, piled tall on a fried tostado base, served with two dipping sauces.. Fresno and jalapeño rings . Then two of us got the enchiladas with mole, served three on a plate , nice heat, smooth with chocolate and flavor... delicious fillings.... and two got the VERY large burrito .... ended up taking half home ! beans , rice, queso, crema, and topped with pico.. I used the two dipping sauces from the ceviche liberally as well :-D One friend was delighted to see Pacific on draft, I had a repeat of the porter. The young fella serving was very helpful and tended to us comfortably. The lunch was well priced, and we took home some for follow up grazing. read more

Our server Will was really polite and very attentive. All of the staff I interacted with were very friendly. The restaurant has an awesome vibe to it, colorfully decorated with comfortable seating. I had the smash burger which came with fries. The Hamburg bun was a bit too big for me but it was easy enough to remove some. The Hamburg itself had a bit too much salt for me. The fries looked great but were way over salted. The 3 of us ordered coconut cream pie which was literally a small coconut cream pie. We only ate 1/3 it was so big. The coconut taste wasn't as strong as I would have thought it would be and for $20 I would pass on it. I'm going with we hit them on a bad day because I want to believe that hey are as special as it felt in there. Would give it another try and when I do, I'll update the post to correct my original impression or to support it. Hopefully to correct it. read more

Very friendly. Good food, and proper live music. If you're looking for a place on a rainy Spring day, Hey Sailor! is perfect.

The Food! The Amazing Quality and freshness that must go into every item on there menu is apparent. My favorites are the Korean chicken wings, the ceviche tostadas The service was wonderful. Our waiter was so attentive and accommodating. It's can be busy so sometimes there might be a wait but they will be expanding soon, so problem solved and they have recently added the pizzas to their menu, I had the Hey Sailor tonight, it was excellent. The ambiance was perfect. The restaurant had a great atmosphere, full of wonderful art and the decor around the bar and the new stage looks like a lot of fun and is beautifully constructed, well designed. Overall, this was an incredible dining experience. My family and I have eaten here many times and will continue to do so. Do yourself a favor and stop by read more

Small restaurant, hip and offers a fun and tasty spin on American fare with coastal Mexican theme. That was my impression. Full service bar with some excellent cocktail choices. The atmosphere was fun and casual. Service was good but there was only one wait staff which was a little challenging as they became more busy with the lunch rush but it was not a major issue. I enjoyed my meal and would highly recommend for breakfast or lunch. read more

Great food, drinks, and overall vibe. Our server was sweet; she was very up front about the kitchen being backed up prior to us ordering which we appreciated! Best Queso I've ever had and the seasoning on the chips they were like homemade Doritos!!! Only gripe was the temperature...it was a very cold day and people continued to linger at the door talking to bar patrons as they were leaving. Not something that would keep us away, but if you run cold like I do, I'd ask to be away from the doors on colder days. read more

Everything went well!! I went out from Northport in search of a new adventure. I had driven by Hey Sailor several times last year heading to Penobscot. I was intrigued by the colors and decorative eye catching design of the establishment. Because of the roadwork I was able to have a good look, many times, albeit a dusty construction look. Inside it's happy, cheerful and at once I felt I was with like minded folks. The music was soft engaging, Tracie Chapman, Amy Winehouse, the like. The staff so kind and inviting. The food, amazing. I came for coffee and stayed for, brunch. I enjoyed their corned beef hash and eggs!! Manly portions and the best restaurant coffee since Portland, no lie. I even had a dessert with breakfast, have never indulged before lunch with a dessert!! Key Lime mini pie!! Delish. My waiter Matt excelled at calm casual efficient intelligent service. You may see a younger look version of Paul Giamatti that is Mat, the server I had. I am finishing my leftovers this morning on a porch looking over Penobscot Bay. Life is good with Hey Sailor memories and more visits to come. I needed this positive experience!! I was looking for it. read more

Best choice for mid-coast dinning. OMG, TheDelicious food, the fun staff the drinks (and the specialty cocktail menu) will knock your socks off. Everything about this place is fabulous. We've been a handful of times now, and knowing the Hichborn we were expecting something good. But this absolutely exceeds our already very high expectations. To the Hichborn's unfussy and excellent experience and food, Hey Sailor adds something far more dangerous - the feeling like this is a place you could hang out in far too often for your own good. Smash burger is divine, the Rhode Island style calamari is perfect, vegetable enchiladas have just the right touch of heat. In truth, we've not had anything we didn't love. Oh, and the Singapore Sling is killer. read more

Great Food, Eye catching Artwork, Friendly Staff, Located in walking distance to local waterfront park.

Good place but dated menu. They could do much better. Don't understand why they are so limited.

What a gem. I asked for a No Hito Mohito (non alcoholic) - best non-alcoholic drink I've had. The appetizer special was a delightful potato haddock cake with a yummy sauce and an early spring oniony green called a ramp. The Posole was delicious and served with all the accessories on the side for my preference. The taco had three choices of sauce - i got the rojo - awesome. read more
