Revisited a sailor at the night prior to our elopement in Searsport. It's definitely a cool little spot with trendy and eclectic decor. They were showing movies in one room and had bar and booth seating in another section. How fun! This place should have five stars. The cocktails were outrageously good. If you've ever gotten a Big Mac and thought, this CAN'T be all this is supposed to be...run, do not walk, to Hey Sailor for their Sailor Burger, a double smash cheeseburger which is immediately recognizable as that classic - but in a refined, thoughtful, glorious form. That's all we had, but clearly they care about their food, and the menu looks awesome. Add a great vibe and friendly service and this is a killer find in a tiny town. So glad we stopped. One of the best dining experiences in recent memory, we ordered kind of family style getting a couple of pizzas, fries and splitting dishes. Everything we ordered was amazing, drinks were great. This place had high stars, it must for their tacos and dining in because it's not for their pizza or ordering Togo. I'm traveling through the coast of Maine so was looking for a place to get food on the way to my hotel and this place popped up. They close at 10 and their kitchen closes at 9. Around 8, I try putting an order thru on their website, which it told me to and said orders need to be placed by 9, so I still had an hour. It wouldn't let me order even though I still had 45 minutes before the kitchen closed..ok, let me call. No answer it just said check our website. I tried multiple times and nothing. I'm basically desperate as this is the only place still open. I get there at 8:50 now and run in to place my order before the kitchen closes and tell them the situation that I tried putting in the order online and calling and it wouldn't take it I already know what I want, don't even need to look at a menu. Great! he puts it in. I realized why they don't take calls as a show was going on across the bar and it was so loud obviously that's why they couldn't take calls. My pizza was going to take about 15 minutes so I walked around the venue and this lady was like if you're going to watch the show you need to buy a ticket - that's when I told her I was waiting on a pizza. I went back to the bar corner after that so I couldn't "see" the stage. It's a tiny venue and the peoplein the dining area next to the stage and the peopleat the bar facing the stage were watchingthe show so i figued it was just part of the restaurant. They also closed the door to the bar so the only way to get in was through where the stage was. The bartender was really nice though and offered me a water while I waited. Finally the pizza was ready. I brought it back to my hotel 15 minutes away - not too far - and It was awful. Looks nice, but the bread was so hard, it was like the dough was overworked, the sauce wasn't normal pizza/tomato sauce it was more like chef boyardee. Maybe that's what they give late people, but I tried putting it in an hour beforehand so I don't know. Hey Sailor! has some incredible vibes. The restaurant is split into two sections. One side has frequent live music in the evening (and other events too!) with a number of tables and a few booths. The other side is closer to the bar with booth seating. Both sides can get a bit loud depending on the music performance, so if you're looking for quiet conversation, you may want to come earlier in the evening. The cocktails at Hey Sailor! are nothing short of incredible. They're masterfully crafted and completely unique. They also have two excellent non-alcoholic cocktails and several local beers available. The food here is a real winner. The tacos are the bomb. While they can be a bit messy, they're packed with flavor. They have a number of protein options, including a vegan option (if you ask for no dairy on the taco). I'm very thankful that they offer vegan options. They also have recently added a pizza oven. The pizza they put out is truly delicious. You can't go wrong with the classics, but if they have a seasonal option, I highly recommend trying it! The summer seasonal pizza I tried had summer squash, fresh corn, and a delicious cheese blend with plenty of fresh basil for flavor. The servers during our visit were incredibly friendly and attentive, though the kitchen can be easily overwhelmed (it's a popular spot). Loved the food and ambience! The Fungi pizza was super tasty, along with the sailor fries. The vinegar on the fries was what sold us on getting a basket and we didn't regret it. Super fun spot in Searsport- interior design is kind of a funky clean 80s vibe. Great bar, a few high tables by the window, and a 1/2 dozen or so booths...get there early or late or expect a wait. They do some specialty mocktails that were delicious, as was the lemonade. Food is a bit tapas style. tacos can be ordered in whatever quantity you want, and were excellent. I also enjoyed the empanadas. Food made fresh with fresh ingredients resulted in an especially tasty meal. Sauces also very good. This is my second time trying food here. First time was takeout and I got tacos and fries- delish. This time my husband and I sat at the bar. I got a margarita which was so yummy and he got a Thai iced tea cocktail which he loved. I got the calamari and he got the queso fundido. He usually doesn't even like queso but he LOVED this one! And the calamari was perfectly cooked. Service was great- bartender was attentive and didn't give you attitude when you asked questions. (Lately I've been noticing many bartenders with bad attitude.) Friends down from Madison.. they lived in San Francisco for years... they were loving the vibe... the beer selections and the menu. We had ceviche tostado for table and it was just the right size for four to share. northern Atlantic shrimp, perfect citrus, piled tall on a fried tostado base, served with two dipping sauces.. Fresno and jalapeño rings . Then two of us got the enchiladas with mole, served three on a plate , nice heat, smooth with chocolate and flavor... delicious fillings.... and two got the VERY large burrito .... ended up taking half home ! beans , rice, queso, crema, and topped with pico.. I used the two dipping sauces from the ceviche liberally as well :-D One friend was delighted to see Pacific on draft, I had a repeat of the porter. This place is special. We were in last night and had amazing fries, chicken tinga enchiladas molé and a burrito, and then a baby key lime pie with torched meringue cream. We live on an island so there is always concern that a place isn't as great as it seems to us at the time since we are always thrilled to be back in civilization, BUT we just ate our leftovers and they were just as delicious the second time around so it wasn't a fluke. Our server Will was really polite and very attentive. All of the staff I interacted with were very friendly. The restaurant has an awesome vibe to it, colorfully decorated with comfortable seating. I had the smash burger which came with fries. The Hamburg bun was a bit too big for me but it was easy enough to remove some. The Hamburg itself had a bit too much salt for me. The fries looked great but were way over salted. The 3 of us ordered coconut cream pie which was literally a small coconut cream pie. We only ate 1/3 it was so big. The coconut taste wasn't as strong as I would have thought it would be and for $20 I would pass on it. I'm going with we hit them on a bad day because I want to believe that hey are as special as it felt in there. The Food! The Amazing Quality and freshness that must go into every item on there menu is apparent. My favorites are the Korean chicken wings,the ceviche tostadas The service was wonderful. Our waiter was so attentive and accommodating. It's can be busy so sometimes there might be a wait but they will be expanding soon, so problem solved and they have recently added the pizzas to their menu, I had the Hey Sailor tonight, it was excellent. Best Queso I've ever had and the seasoning on the chips they were like homemade Doritos!!! Everything went well!! I went out from Northport in search of a new adventure. I had driven by Hey Sailor several times last year heading to Penobscot. I was intrigued by the colors and decorative eye catching design of the establishment. Because of the roadwork I was able to have a good look, many times, albeit a dusty construction look. Inside it's happy, cheerful and at once I felt I was with like minded folks. The music was soft engaging, Tracie Chapman, Amy Winehouse, the like. The staff so kind and inviting. The food, amazing. We love this place, and stop in any chance we get. It is a great venue for music, and their smash burgers are amazing. However, tonight the simple salad was mostly iceberg lettuce rather than the "mixed greens" as advertised. The salad is $15, and we were very disappointed with the lack of quality lettuce. To the Hichborn's unfussy and excellent experience and food, Hey Sailor adds something far more dangerous - the feeling like this is a place you could hang out in far too often for your own good. Smash burger is divine, the Rhode Island style calamari is perfect, vegetable enchiladas have just the right touch of heat. In truth, we've not had anything we didn't love. Back a year later and the place hasn't changed still fabulous. The burritos are amazing as ever and a "wedge" salad with, instead of iceberg lettuce, their first pick of spring lettuce. When this place opened, my husband and I were there at least once a week, sometimes more. It truly felt like a "Cheers" type atmosphere, with Jon the manager always greeting us with warm smiles and our favorite drinks before we even asked. We got to know and love the staff members and really enjoyed most of the cuisine. In the beginning, co-owner Charlie was often there as well, chatting and greeting us pleasantly. Even then, we had minor gripes about the small portions (three small pierogis for $15 as an appetizer? In a place called a "gastro-dive bar," could we at least have four in an app we'd like to split?) of some food and the drinks. Not only are some of the drinks TINY, they are high priced. In a place like Searsport and supposedly not a high-end restaurant, some self-awareness about the clientele might be in order. When a small-town controversy erupted, we supported what had become our favorite restaurant, giving co-owner Kirk the benefit of the doubt when he came up against a local official. Another staff member who we know very closely told us the individual was out of line, so we stood by Hey Sailor, in spite of having had experienced Kirk's attitude at the couple's other restaurant when we dared ask him to check the calendar for the date we were seeking for our anniversary dinner (we opted not to go after that). The next incident came when friends of ours who also frequented the place had a negative experience with him after having been regular customers and having gifted the owners with expensive door hardware. They had arrived shortly before their friends, and wanted to sit at their table and have drinks until they arrived. After the server gave them a hard time about that, Kirk further exacerbated the situation by being confrontational. They never went back. Still, we kept going. The final straw came after some events caused multiple staff members to leave in an exodus. Without going into details about personal personnel matters that aren't mine to speak on, I will say that Kirk again showed his confrontational, bullying nature to people he felt able to intimidate. That was our final straw. It is truly sad, because we spent thousands of dollars at this place, which we loved. My husband has since commented on a couple of their Instagram posts, letting them know that Kirk is the reason for people wanting to stay away from Hey Sailor. In response, he was blocked from their page by Kirk, who sent him a message and then retracted it. Where I come from, businesses work hard to earn patrons' business. They appreciate their customers and do what they can to keep them coming back. It is perplexing why someone would open a business in a community and then proceed to fight with, alienate and ban enough people for it to be considered a pattern of abuse. My guess is that the owners must be independently wealthy, and their restaurants are a fun hobby. Otherwise, one would have to be insane to treat people this way, especially in a very small-town environment, where everyone knows everyone and word travels fast. Also, in Charlie's response to another poor review, he claims to always defend his staff. I know this to be patently false, as his husband bullies them and he defends his actions. Why so much anger? There is a reason this is called the "hospitality" business. Leave your personal issues and inner struggles at the door and stop treating staff and customers so poorly. read more

I noticed that we had gotten charged 50 cents for basic mustard that we had requested on a cheeseburger. I inquired. The Manager made an appearance. Her demeanor was less than friendly and she assured us that she did take the charge off "this time". Her attitude just ruined the whole experience. The food was great and so was the waitress. I gave her a good tip, but I won't go back. I spent $100, you can't provide complimentary mustard without making me and my guests feel like we were not welcome. read more

The appetizer special was a delightful potato haddock cake with a yummy sauce and an early spring oniony green called a ramp.
