hey happy has chill vibes from the moment you walk in. exposed brick, big front windows, and fun tiered wooden seating give it a cosy but open feel. there's a steady rhythm of quiet chatter and keyboard tapping, lots of beanies and toques, plenty of laptops out, and a young hipster crowd settling in for long stretches. i grabbed a table with a little card that read "sanitized," which was a small but appreciated touch. i ordered the apple pie matcha, house apple pie syrup, ceremonial grade matcha, topped with cinnamon sugar dust. honestly, i wasn't a fan of the apple pie syrup. it leaned a bit artificial, sweetened with honey and overpowered the drink for me. that said, the matcha itself tasted good, but subtle, smooth, earthy, and decent quality. temperature wise it was more on the tepid side than properly warm, which didn't help. i'd probably try their strawberry matcha latte next time. i also got the hashbrown with herb mayo and added a soft poached egg. it comes as a tiny square, hard and crunchy on the outside with a solid crisp. when cut into, the yolk was cooked nicely with a soft jammy ooze that coated the hashbrown. the herb mayo added a creamy, savoury boost and brought extra flavour to each bite. overall, hey happy is a solid place to hang or work for a few hours. great seating setup options, relaxed atmosphere, and a crowd that makes it feel effortlessly cool. read more

The only sweetener they had were random syrups (which chocolate, honey) or sugar. It was the first time I've heard of a Cafe not having basic vanilla sweetener. I got a Chai latte and my friend got their white chocolate peppermint mocha. The Chai latte was very dilute and had a little Chai flavor but couldn't taste the cinnamon at all. I always say if you want to really taste a good coffee an americano black is the way to go because you really taste coffee without anything to alter taste. Their coffee is really good but not the ultimate in Victoria as they don't roast their own coffee, but still better than any Starbucks of this world ( these bastards are everywere !). Hey Happy definitely has some of the best coffee in town! Every time I go I like to try one of their rotating special drinks and they're always amazing. I do wish they came in a larger size however. If there's one thing you can count on from hey happy, it's that it will be busy. You can't really run in for a quick coffee, because you'll always end up waiting in line and waiting for your drinks for a while. The coffee is definitely worth the wait though! I can't imagine it's a very good place to work from, as it can be quite busy and loud. It's a better environment to meet with friends at or to take your food to go. I felt that their vegan breakfast sausage left something to be desired. I don't feel that mushrooms are a good vegan substitute for protein, because they're not actually a protein replacement at all. I felt pretty hungry after eating my breakfast sandwich and wished there has been tofu or something on it. Quite a hippie vibe in this downtown cafe! I ordered the turmeric vanilla cashew and it was tasty. Since this cafe is in the heart of DT and cashew milk is probably a bit more pricier, the price for this was still a bit steep imo. I loved the cups that our drinks came in; very cute and a feeling of coziness. I definitely enjoyed the atmosphere and environment created by this cafe. Drawback is that the place is relatively small with limited seatings so it's not an ideal place for studying. Meeting up with a friend is great though! read more
