I dont reccomend. had a reservation at a particular price and they called me an hour before my pick up time, to tell me that my car wasn't available, and only the higher tier cars were still there- and that he'll upcharge 50% of my confirmed booked price. this is a rude and unscrupulous business practice, any normal Carrental and whats happened in the past is the respected the price and gave me whatever car they had available even if it was a higher tier. read more

Not the best car rental experience. I chose Hertz after a price comparison site showed that they had the lowest rate for my weekend rental. They do have a military discount, which is helpful, but be prepared to spend a lot if you need insurance - $64/day! The car itself was good and the staff was friendly. Hertz was closed on the day I returned the vehicle, and I was 50 minutes late to drop off the car and keys. The next day, my bank alerted me that Hertz had tried to charge me an extra $100. I immediately called the location, where a staff member told me that it was for dropping the car off 1 hour late. I argued that I was not a full hour late, and more importantly, one hour of rental time should not cost $100 (one day is closer to $100). The staff member immediately said "Ok, I'll remove the charge". I got the impression that Hertz relies on inattentiveness - be careful and monitor your charges! read more

Called and made the reservation which was easy at Hertz near my home. When I came and picked up car-representative was friendly and knowledgeable-gave me a choice of two new cars. Carefully reviewed the contract and stressed that if any issue came up to call him directly. I called to extend my rental by two days as my car-under repair-was not ready. When I realized my car was indeed ready I contacted Hertz to say I didn't need the car for the extra two days but I was over the return time by two hours. I was willing to pay late fee. Representative did not charge me those two days nor any further charge for late return. Professional and helpful beyond words!!! read more

I rent cars from enterprise but Hertz at upper Saddle River was close and my company has an account here so I thought.."better"...I was wrong. When I called the account I immediately got a very unwelcoming attitude from someone named Carolyn and when I got there it was a serious wait and again an attitude that communicated they just don't want our business. I rented a car for Thanksgiving weekend weeks in advance and made sure twice that they would be open. When I showed up, there were no employees here. It was impossible to get anyone on the phone that day. Only 1-800 numbers where people told us we'd be called back "as soon as possible." That never happened. read more

So I had a situation where we needed a second car for a few months. I had been to the Paramus location and rented there a few times but it was just too far from where I lived so I chose this location since it was closer. From the first rental the two guys that ran this place seem to have no idea what they are doing. I'd reserve a car over the phone or online and still have to come in here and wait for long periods of time to get my rental. I mean I would literally call the same morning and reserve things and I'd go in later that day and they still just couldn't get things together. It got to the point every week when I literally loathed having to come in this place. Also the price quotes over the phone were always off. If you tell me something is say $150 for a week, and we go over every detail of the rental, several times, I expect things to be as you say- never the case. Also I was late to school/work on more then 1 occasion from this mess. And each time I left more then ample time to accommodate for things perhaps, going arhye. It's just irritated me so much... So I decided to look elsewhere and had a much better experience after using them for several weeks. Thank god I have a car now and no longer need any rental. But word of advice get your sh*t together.... read more

They just tried to charge me $ 750.00 for renting mid-size car (all they had) over 4th of July weekend, because "it's the 4th". I just reserved a compact rental at enterprise, same time period, for $ 268.75. This place is sketchy. read more

I will never rent a car from Hertz again. The information regarding car options on the website was completely misleading. I wanted a specific car and upon arriving at the Hertz pick- up location I was told that the car that I wanted would not available and in fact, they do not even carry the actual brands that are illustrated on their website. I had to settle for a brand that I would never consider driving because of its history of poor reliability. In addition I was not informed about the replenishing the gas prior to returning the vehicle. It was my first time renting a car and it would have been helpful to be properly informed. I was charged 10.00 per gallon for 7 gallons of gas. This is outrageous! Never again will I settle for company that takes advantage of its customers in providing high quality and trust. BIG MISTAKE.
